Awesome flight, nice views! Great to see on board video here in Europe, even in Belgium, so close to my home here in south east Netherlands!

Excellent video Peter! Checking my old logbook I landed my TB10 G-POPI at Brussels 24.05.1997 departing 26.10. I remember on arrival being told to maintain 120kts until short final then high speed exit! On departure I was told to line up on the runway in front of a departing DC10! Very cool but I don't have any pics! Keep up the good work!

Great experience this low pass ! You are lucky ! I can't even imagine doing this in Orly or Charles de Gaulle ! VFR are forbidden.... I tried last december to do a touch and go at Beauvais airport, but i had to go around because of too much traffic. And in France we can not fly so low above cities, like you did above Brussels; here it would be 5000 ft above !

Hi Laurent, thanks for watching, and indeed it is a special privilege that we are allowed to do this kind of flying sometimes in the CTR of Brussels, as there are many large international airports in Class A airspace in Europe, where this is impossible. Just a note on the overflying rule: I am aware that France has stricter rules (where the minimum height depends on the size of the city below), but typically you are exempt of these overflying minima when you are in the process of an approach or landing (and/or are following ATC instructions), which was the case here. I am not sure how this is in France (and this is not a legal advice :D), but I would be surprised if it was not the case there too. Cheers!

@@papics yes Peter, you are right, only for landing or take off ! But i would like to be able to fly over large cities only 1000 ft above. Maybe one day if i fly "outre Quiévrain" as we say in french,to mean crossing the border between France and Belgium !😁

@@lsalvan just keep in mind, that there is also another rule beyond the 1000' one, is that you always need to be within gliding range of a non-populated area when overflying a city, so if the city is larger, then you should not be flying only 1000' above ;)

Hello. thanks again for this great video. As student pilot I've a question :) I see that you ask to 126.900 to accomodate your entry in the CTR and the lowpass on runway 07. Why didn't you switch to EBBR TWR to ask for clearence ? What's the benefits of asking to brussels info ?

Hi, great question! I don't have an official answer for you, so feel free to talk to your instructor and come back with a different answer here, but here is what I think. You can of course directly go and contact Brussels Tower (there are videos of other people doing low passes like that on UA-cam), but the frequency might be busy so you might have difficulty to get a word in (although if they are so busy then I guess the low pass will also not be easy to get), and in the meantime you are not on the flight information frequency anymore either, so you lost some extra situational awareness that comes from at least listening there. Asking flight information when flight information is not busy also gives them something to do ;) On the more serious side asking for cooperation/coordination between different frequencies is also a tool to delegate some of the load from the pilot to the controllers, and it can lower traffic on the actual frequencies (as coordination happens not on the radio). For me it was much easier to just concentrate on the flying (low under the TMA, near the tower of Sint-Pieters-Leeuw) and let the controllers figure out if my request was possible. If the request was not possible, then this way I would have just stayed on the flight info frequency, otherwise I would have had to switch frequencies again, and put in a word to FIS that I am back on the frequency. But on another day (like a weekend) flight info might have been super busy, so then I don't think this would have been the best way, and contacting Tower directly might have been better. Thanks for watching and commenting!
