How do you remove the lockout collar one it is snapped into place? I think mine is rattling against the spring and I want to try and fix it with some heat shrink.

Hey I bought my 2018 GT PP1 with 20k miles on it in Sep 2022. My shifter is different, I have to PUSH down on the shifter to engage reverse. Not sure why or what it has installed. Any ideas??
Because this was the first install I did completely on my own since my hand surgery and by the time we got to the tool list I was in so much pain I simply read the manufacturer by mistake lol . it happens
Hey Bill, are you guys offering installation as well? I can't find a trustworthy shop in Illinois. Wanna get the Barton, kooks chatted headers a Cai and a tune this year.
New subscriber, love your videos! Sorry to ask another question about the seats. Thank you for answering the other one. Is there an adjustable lumbar on your recaro seats?
@@cjponyparts Thanks Very Much! What effect does removing the shelby damper have on the operation of the transmission? I saw you guys remove it but didn't see you install it again. Cheers! 🙂
Bill, how do you recommend getting the reverse collar out of the Barton? My 2015 came with a black o ring and the white one and when I installed the Barton I put the black o ring on and then the white one and I believe that is causing some issues with the reverse lockout collar.
Hi CJs. What impact does removing the Shelby transmisson damper have? What is the function of it in the first place? I can't find any info anywhere else online Thanks in advance!.
@@kodacres7820 well I did solve the problem…just cost me more ….bought a factory ordered 21 scat pack challenger with a 6 spd and the hellcat brakes lol. Before the interest rates went up
I am too. I have the flat stick push down version. I'm going to be making sure the shop did it correctly. Mines is Trans-Mounted and the assholes forgot to put my upper boot back in there. But 1st to second at around 5K or more is a no go for me.
@@andrewmorgan5090 I figured out my problem today. You might want to make sure if you had someone install it they didn't do what my installer did and that is trans-body mount it ☠️☠️☠️ I uploaded the video on my channel today. I couldn't believe it. So my vehicle is going back to the shop to have everything adjusted correctly.
Thanks for a good video on this install Bill. I was hesitant to get a Barton short throw shifter but I’m gonna send it now lol. Just wanted to know if the instructions that come with the shifter mention the torque specs for all the bolts or do you happen to know what they are? Thanks in advance.
Hey Bill i m glad you guys are back with install videos. Even though i dont have a mustang i still enjoy watching your videos. In the video you credit steeda shifters for keeping your transmission from falling. Why is that? That's an intriguing statement hahaha
In my opinion a lot of the failures of the MT82 come from people shifting too aggressively with the stock shifter. There are plenty of other options out there, I have just always run Barton and have been happy with them. My 11, 13, and 15 all had Barton shifters.
I agree with what you said about people shifting too aggressive with the factory shifter. I position myself so I don’t overthrow on the 2-3 shift also, I don’t slam on it, and I haven’t broken anything. The OEM shifter is a POS! Just picked up a Barton for my 2018.
Thanks for the video, just installed mine on a ‘17 GT. My rubber boot was different than the one in the video but I was able to modify it to make it work.
I had an MGW on my terminator swapped 96 and it was a great shifter but Tazaxx21 is correct. The Barton shifters have always gotten the job done for me so there is no real reason to try something else.
The body mount will have a little more play in the linkage but will have less NVH. I barely noticed any going trans mount though so I stayed with that.
According to the guy on the Barton video, when the body mount is used the linkage allows the trans to torque relative to the shifter, but the fore and aft movement is still nice and solid compared to the factory unit. The main difference is the vibration experienced through the shifter. Barton is the only shifter I've seen that replaces the entire OEM lower unit, and still allows a body mount option.
Will this fix the clutch fork failure issues people are having. They issue basically starts with 3rd and forth gear grinding and then they eventually go out. Will this prevent that?
A good quality shifter will help prevent damage to the internals, the Fork issue seems to be a production issue. I have had this shifter on my 18 for over 11,000 miles and no issues.
Do I have to have those loud guitar riffs playing as I remove each part? I'll need a second person to turn them off and on at the right time.
Damn. Used to be so easy to install a short throw shifter. Now, its a PITA.
Yea it's a lot of work but worth it IMHO.

Man, 2 10mm's are needed for this install? I've searched the earth twice and still can't find 1, let alone 2! 😂

What’s the stimated cost on the install?

You would need to remove the boot and trim plate and then unbolt the shifter from the base. It is tight but there is enough room.

Is there a review before and after comparing the shifters?
At 10:20 I installed the nuts on the driver hand side will there be a problem?
Question..please advise why you get the manual instead of the auto..trying to decide? The auto is faster and stronger.
dry509 get the auto. You wont regret it

CJ Pony Parts thanks for the answer Bill, any recommendations for a decent shop in the mid west?

No there is no lumbar adjustment. You have up and down and the back is adjustable and that's it.
Bill Tumas Thank you so much
Hey Bill 😊
If you choose to use the supplied trans mount, does that effectivley do the job or a blowfish bracket?
Yes it works the same way. The Blowfish converts the stock body mount to a floor mount, the Barton Hybrid gives you both options.

I believe it is designed to be more of vibration damper with the stock shifter but I am not 100% sure, I have seen no issues from removing it.
Can you guys start doing aftermarket exhaust work/options??
We did an X pipe so far, as soon as more options are available we will.
Are these recaro seats the same exact shape and fit as the recaro seats in the GT 350?
Same as the 15-17 cars, the Shelby ones are different.
What bolts were used for top of trans mount arms ?
NOW!..do you guys sell something to reduce the clutch throw length?
Yes. There is an adjustable throw out bearing. But if u don't know what you're doing it's a great way to cook a clutch
I know your post is 6 years old, but check out the clutch pedal riser they sell.

Hey Bill is the Steeda clutch spring still needed for the 2018 Mustang or is the clutch feel not nearly as numb as the 15-17 Mustangs?
Good question... I am curious about that as well.
I will be adding one shortly and will let you know. The clutch is very light compared to the 15-17
The clutch spring is a MUST on the 18, feels so much better.
Alright good to know. Hey Bill are you going to put a Roush supercharger on your 2018 or you going to keep NA and make it a screamer?

My brother has a 15 gt and after he had installed it is smooth in all gears but you gotta force the shit outta it to get in reverse
I would tell him to make sure the lockout is in the correct location, my car goes into reverse like butter and my 15 was the same way.
CJ Pony Parts I took a look at it and everything looks good but when you put it into reverse the lip on the lockout just slips off.
Did you replace the DS while you were switching the shifter?
No I kept the stock one for now.

I don't think they do videos on parts they don't sell. Look up SVT Performance for video on the MGW...
