In this game, Capcom didn't do a good job on either SNES or Genesis. The SNES sound chip is slightly better, it's also a console two years younger, but both consoles can provide much better sound - see Castlevania or Turrican on both systems.
I think the genesis version was a bigger game with 40Megs in comparison to the SNES version which had a 32Megs cartridge. Which is why the genesis version had a bigger screen and a few extras like more animation. SNES version i notice that still had more things moving on stages and looked more alive than the genesis version.
Many people can still debate which version is better, but in my opinion, Genesis version is better because it is not censored and has more data like sounds and graphics (look at the intro and the endings), unlike SNES version.
how the soundchip of the snes was build, was one of the best though, it was pretty much sample based, most of the games had 16bit sounds but was downgraded to 12bit to save space. also many said it was a pain in the ass to create music, Tim Follin a mastermind of its own, stated it was like hell and he did the soundtrack for the game Plok, even Miyamoto was shocked how good it sounded so the game never really got promotion and it failed at that time. check Plok and you can see Rayman lol
The contortions you put your mind through to justify your position is hilarious. You will emphasize a few changed pixels or an extra frame of animation on an opening yet ignore all of the missing colors and color choices that look really off due to the technical limitations of the Genesis. Stop being ridiculous. Both versions play fine but the SNES version is clearly the winner in both graphics and audio.
SNES is missing quite a lot of animation across the board, Cammy looks broken while standing on SNES, Ryu intro is very stiff on SNES, plus so many sound effects are missing, not to mention the actual music is closer on MD. The SNES has a squeakyness to the overall sound quality. On MD you have a great 6 Button controller to use. Also, true street fighter vets know the SNES dose not have ALL the possible combos like the arcade.
@@davidaitken8503 Well, yes, SNES beats Genesis by having more colors, but due to how SNES cartridge is smaller than those of Genesis (32 megabits on SNES vs 40 megabits on Genesis), some features were cut from SNES version. Announcer does not say "Round" and "Fight" (and, in some SNES versions, character names), and aside from intro animation being altered, some endings were altered as well, some with graphics reused from same or other endings (Balrog/Boxer's ending from SNES version, for example, uses podium from Ryu's ending), some use the "black bars and a fighter on Bison/Dictator's stage" (like Chun-Li's first part of her ending).
Hands down? There are actually less colors on the Genesis version. WAY less. This is a technical fact which is why the shading is worse on Genesis. Don't misunderstand me..I prefer the Sega version overall like you, but when it comes to color and shading, you have to face facts.@@user-jn4ih2sy7j

megadrive and snes are missing the 3rd elephant on dhaslim stage honda stage water dont over flow in the spa on snes , megadrive the girls inthe background on balrog stage wearing the same bikini where the snes is more accurate to the arcade version also megadrive the moon dont move on ryu stage like it does on snes .

@@StuartRyde-uu1txthe music playing continuously through two rounds on the Genny version is absolutely not a plus, especially since the music sounds like absolute ass.
This game once again underutilizes the capabilities of the Mega Drive. Those horrible black bars would not have been necessary since the Mega Drive can display a correct aspect ratio. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated thanks to the Brazilian development scene that the sprites of the original arcade size could have been ported without problems (look for Rheogamer's demo of SF II or simply the port of Real Bout Fatal Fury Genesis which is even more demanding in animation detail and character size) without having to lose horizontal definition or having to increase the VBlank time to update tiles. As for the video, I prefer the MD version. A 6 front button control brings you closer to the arcade experience, plus, playably, I always noticed a better response in the control. In addition, details such as being able to see 2 simultaneous cyclists in Chun-Li's level in the MD version give the sensation of having more vivid backgrounds.
it had to be a good port cause it used the biggest cart on genesis. if only they can fix the sad low quality of the ost in the sega version of ssf2...rather have that then a few more sprite animations. it takes down the experience a little. compared to sf2 champ on genesis. it is amazing what the homebrews show genesis could do tho with snk fighters too. wish we had that back in the day. on genesis. it was possible to have near arcade perfect sprites. hope to see a full games out of it soon... the alpha port for genesis is also sick. but other then that it is better then snes ssf2. if only the snes version played more like turbo on snes tho. lol sf2 turbo the goat of 16bit street fighter.😁
SNES replicates colors and sounds of the arcade far more closely than Genesis does (hardware limitations for which there was no workaround). That is what makes SNES version much more nicer overall IMO.
@@kamranki The sound on the SNES is muffled and its melodies barely last 90 seconds due to lack of space and limited memory of the SPC700 (That's why they reset every round). The missing vocals are also noticeable. The sound on the Mega Drive is more faithful as it shares an FM chip from the same family that has CPS-1, not to mention the forcefulness with which it is appreciable from the blows made on the Sega console. Whether it's closer or closer to what the arcade version shows in colors is really irrelevant if the control and fluidity don't go along with it. The limitations are found in Nintendo's machine where it would be impossible to support sprites and animations carried directly from the arcade unless the size of the black bars increased. And not to mention the resolution that limits it at all times and of which there is no other solution that we see it: Small characters to maintain the original distances between the arcade characters. A port for MD using its capabilities would be impossible to bring to the SNES due to hardware limitations.
@@kamranki What I'm talking about is that if the game had been programmed taking into account the capabilities of MD, a game would come out that was much more faithful to the arcade in practically every sense and unattainable in its counterpart on the Nintendo console due to technical limitations (as already showed Rheogamer and his Brazilian friends). Personally I prefer the melodies shown in the Mega Drive version, much closer to those of the CPS-1 board. Whether you think the SNES version of this game is better is just another opinion, I prefer good playability, fluidity, control response, speed, shorter loading times, over color. Which for me, makes the Mega Drive version "much nicer overall"
There a few background differences I noticed for the first time. Guile's stage the plane and the distant background are seporate. You can see when the screen scrolls up they scroll different speeds. The Sega port is one background. I also noticed on Sagat's stage, on the Nintendo, Buddha statue shadow is part of the line scrolling foreground, so it's perspective changes, Sega it's stagnant.
If you look at it in Guile's stage both versions have 2 background planes. The scrolling difference in SNES is more exagerated and in Genesis it's more subtle but it's there.
@@StRoRo What's really strange as you mentioned is Sagat's stage. It's so weird to have the fixed shadow in Genesis while on SNES it's completely dynamic. At 1st I thought that it might be memory related but the Genesis version uses a higher capacity cartridge.
Also notice Ryus stage, has moving moon. Cammys stage has more animation on the sky effect. And Vegas stage starts with the iron cell door closing down. So Snes at least won on background graphics.
I think by the time this version of SF2 came out, most people had moved on to other fighting games. I say this because while he OG version of SF2 for the SNES sold over six million copies, SSF2 sold less than half of that. There was a lot more competition to around by then.
it was also the 3rd version of the same game released in a little more than 2 years. Yes, there's more characters and content, but those who had already acquired the previous versions had no reason to buy this for a 3rd time. Killer Instinct was released the next year and sold better
There was talk they weren't even going to release it in Europe, and when it did come out it was in seriously limited numbers. It almost never shows up second hand, at least on the SNES, and I could build a throne out of the original SF2 carts I encounter on my travels.
Very cool seeing these side-by-side for the first time! For me: - I think the characters look better, and stand out more on Sega. - Backgrounds are mostly better looking on the SNES, esp Balrog's stage. - The sound is a toss-up, what you might be feeling that day. Both systems have their musical merits across soundtracks and systems. Both have a lot of nostalgia for me and I'm glad devs still pull inspiration from this in modern games. - Aside from obvious omissions/dev and producer choices I feel w/ the limited color palette but faster CPU on the Sega and far greater color palette and sound chip on the SNES you have a "limitations foster creativity situation" where each strikes an arguable equal balance to their respective strengths.
it appears that the console operates faster on Sega's side. Like the loading and framerate and activity seem to all be a little fastr on Sega than Nintendo. I'm not saying it's a LOT faster, but at least 3% faster? am I right or wrong?
Hm.Both versions are good.I own both, but I honestly prefer the genesis version.reasons being: I like the layout of the 6-button genesis controller more, there's an option to fight all 16 fighters in arcade mode,i actually prefer some of the music in the genesis version (Cammy and Fei-Long,amongst a few other themes) and the fact that in VS and Tournament Mode, they actually announce the fighter's names. But,once again, this is my OWN personal preference, and everybody has theirs.
On the Genesis version i like Ryu´s stage theme, Fei Long´s stage theme, T Hawks´s and Dee Jay´s are also not bad, but overall the Snes version has better soundtracks specially Cammy´s stage is so much better on the Snes (both Super Famicom and Snes versions)
Let just bring out the obvious: The Sound is a disgrace on the Genesis soundchip! Especially when the previous SF2:CE sounded way better. In the Ryu intro, He has more animations in the Genesis version but more colors in the SNES version. The Genesis version also runs a higher resolution & is less censored. 1st stage - The SNES version has a scrolling sky & extra background layer. 2nd stage - I like the more vibrant colors on the Genesis than the SNES version. 3rd stage - The SNES has more animations on the background. the Aurora in the sky looks like half the frame rate on the Genesis. 4th stage - The portrait on the wall looks a little more detailed in the SNES version, not much of a major difference. 5th stage - very minor difference again, the colors look slightly more vibrant in the Genesis to me. 6th stage - it's hard to see with the jet in the way, but if you look close enough there are Tree's in SNES version while Genesis version is just green pixel lines. Also people in the background has more colors in the SNES version. 7th stage - People in the background in the Genesis version has faster animations. 8th stage - very minor difference again, just different coloration. 9th stage - on the middle sign it says NIN NIN HALL on the Genesis & GOLDWIN on the SNES, also the Top Right & Top Left signs have different colors on both systems, & the 2 ladies in the background are wearing 2 different colors on the SNES while they're the same on the Genesis. 10th stage - the 2 ladies in the middle have different colors. The SNES version also has lighting animations. 11th stage - Buddha & the platforms has slightly different colors. other than, minor differences. Final stage - the building in the background is Orange & Green on the Genesis, but Red & Green on the SNES. Also the Statues on the SNES version has more colors. Bison Ending - Genesis version Bison has facial animations & a layered background. SNES version Bison looks like he locked his jaw. But you do get some nice SNES effect going.
actually its the other way around, when you turn on HDR on the monitor it displays more colors , so the colors are more subtle . if you look at the genesis you can tell its fewer colors ,look at the background where you see gradients, since the Geneiss has less of a color pallet it uses fewer colors and shading so certain colors pop since its less in between colors .. while on the NES colors are more gradually and subtle especially in gradients because it uses more colors. hope this helps
Back then my friends and I from school who played the street fighter 2 arcade cabinet after school and had mini tournaments, we all agreed that the Genesis version was as close to the arcade in terms of how quick you can perform all the special moves. We also agreed the SNES version was prettier but that's about it.
@@madspunky the sound chip isn't the problem because other Sega Genesis games are plenty loud. This one definitely was always very quiet on any TV that I've ever used. It's below average sound for sure, but my claim is that the overall experience with the gameplay is so much better than any other option, that you can just deal with it. Obviously if they were able to get the sound to a higher level and fix the voice samples like some of the patches have done since then, it would be an A+++ game. But the other games that are comparable to this one have bigger problems, so it still makes it the best. If I'm being super nitpicky I'd even still rather play this one than the arcade version of the game, if only because in versus mode you can pick different characters each time.
I noticed the music continues between Round 1 and 2 like it does in the arcade, on the MD/Genesis port. Also, like other mentioned, it actually has the announcers saying "Round 1/2/3 etc." While the voices are obviously clearer on SFC, some of them are cut short for some reason, like the elephants trumpeting in Dhalsim's stage, or Mike Bison's infamous "Oaaa" when he does his Dash punches.
Both versions were amaizing, but I give a slight edge in the graphics department to the SNES because of the smother color transitions and slightly bigger character sprites. In terms of gamplay, I always felt that both were equally responsive but playing this with the Genesis 6 button pad is pure perfection. Sound is better on the SNES. You can't go wrong with either version, but at the end of the day I always preferred the Genesis version because of that 6 button controller layout. Having the all six buttons on the face of the pad was perfect for SF and the Dpad was also better than the SNES controller.
@damin9913 more sprites, more animation. The Gen can actually handle bigger sprites, but Capcom just reused the smaller SNES sprites, which is why they appear small against the uncropped backgrounds.
1. SNES seems more challenging. The AI blocks and counters every Psycho Crusher attack. The Mega Drive version looks more of a push over. 2. I prefer the Genesis 6 button controller. The D-Pad is better suited for directional inputs. Not to mention I like button layout. There is something about using the left trigger for attacks that seem off putting. 3. Not use to seeing M. Bison as Vega.

I notice you have an image of a modern-day 8BitDo third party 6-button wireless controller below the Genesis version, so why can't you at least have something like the C&L Championship Joystick as the third party controller image below the SNES version? I understand the default SNES controller is so good that it can stand on its own against basically any Genesis controller both first and third party and old and new, but, if you're going to allow random third party controllers that would enhance the experience even further, there's simply nothing better for playing Street Fighter II on either of these systems than the C&L Championship Joystick for SNES. It might help to have the same controller conditions for each system, which is either the default controller (that would be the Genesis 3-button pad and the SNES standard pad) or allow both versions to use the best controller available for them equally.
I had both versions growing up. Both were excellent ports, but for me, the SNES one is the better of the two by the narrowest of margins thanks to its cleaner sound, better enemy AI and more detailed backgrounds. I can’t help but wonder how a PC-Engine version of Super SFII would have turned out, had Capcom decided to make one.

When Special Champion Edition for the Genesis and Turbo for the SNES went head to head, it was a lot closer. They still had tradeoffs, but it was much more of a competitive comparison. Super, on the other hand? That was when I saw the SNES pulling ahead. Look at the sky, for example, in Guile's stage at 10:20. See how the blending of the blue color is so much smoother in the Super Nintendo? You can clearly see the banding on the Genesis version as it hits that 64 color limitation. Also at 5:58 on Cammy's stage, look at the color blending and movement of the northern lights. It's so much smoother and more subtle on the SNES, while it looks like neon street signs on the Genesis. And obviously, the audio presentation was clearly in the SNES' favor now. Of course, at the end of the day, almost no one cared if the Super Nintendo had more color or that the Genesis had a few more frames in the Ryu intro animation. Someone might remark on how lousy the voices were on the Genesis, but then they'd forget all about it as soon as Start was hit. It was still Street Fighter II and you'd have a blast playing it on either system.
I've already tried both versions myself, and I've always found MD to be superior, content wise, the additional 8 mb pay. It lacks a couple of effects that are inexplicably absent, like cammy stage wavy sky or ryu stage scrolling moon, but other than that, megadrive is better, despite Capcom's flagrant preference for Nintendo 😅
How is it better? You provide absolutely zero reasons why it is better. It sure as hell doesn't look or sound as nice and I've played both versions and have concluded they play the same.
A wavy sky on Mega Drive would imply wavy mountains, because the sky and the mountains are on the same background layer. And in Ryu's stage, I prefer still clouds than a scrolling moon.
@Katz2009 in megadrive you can use line interrupts to change the position of the clouds and have a wave effect while the mountains remain intact, all in a single plane in Cammy's bg, as for the scrolling moon, it can be done, perhaps with sprites, anyway, it was a bit of nit picking 😅 As for the reasoning behind my choice, I've already given plenty: 8 million bits more content. If I haven't added anything else is because the rest is essentially the same. But the additional graphics and sounds make a more complete experience in megadrive, from my point of view.
@@santitabnavascues8673 You're assuming 100% of that extra storage was used which is an incredibly ignorant view to have. You also pretend that you're comparing apples to apples when you are comparing apples to oranges. A miniscule number of extra frames might make a difference if you ignored the fact that the 99% of the frames shared between the two games look inferior on the Genesis. Less colors and worse color choices available on the hardware is too much of a downside that an isolated extra frame on Cammy's standing animation can't really compensate for.
I don't get why the colors are off, the backround left there is lighter grass in the genesis, where there seems to be dry grass in the snes. why change that?
Probably due to the available color palette of the Genesis. The sega console only had a 512 color palette and out of that it could only display 64 at a time. I believe the SNES had a palette of 32,000 colors and could display 256 at the same time.
I didn't think I would say that for this particular game, but I'll take the higher resolution image of the MD over the higher color depth of the SNES. It just looks crispier on the MD.
They should occasionally switch to a full screen of just one of these at a time so you can more easily see just how bad the lack of color looks on the Genesis. More problematic however is that some colors just seem off from what they should be because those color options don't exist on the Genesis. Obviously this can be a problem on certain stages and characters more than others.
The dithering on the MD is clearly visible in this video. Scaling up the image and going full screen, would decidedly hurt the SNES version more because of its low resolution. The MD is overall better looking, though the SNES does look better in a few stages. @@davidaitken8503
I dont get the whole higher resolution thing really. Both versions use exact same sprites. Connect both consoles to an old CRT and see side by side. SNES's extra colors does make it look more attractive.

That was literally it. The resolution looked basically the same because it is basically the same. I always preferred Street Fighter on Genesis versus snes. Especially wants you realize certain things aren't like the arcade on the snes. Genesis version has less colors, but more responsive controls. That six button Genesis controller was also a gift from god.
Not a big diff, but I suspect the loading time on the SNES and the less voice are a result of the smaller ROM capacity (iirc., the SNES version is 32 Mbit, while the Genesis is 40).

Ryu always looked meaner in the intro on the Genesis. Music wise I go with the SNES but the overall control and gameplay I go with the Genesis version hands down.
They did a good job with the limited 64 colors on the genesis. Id thought the snes should have done better with its 256 but maybe it was a quick release and didnt bother making it better, they used dithering on snes where i feel the snes could of done a smooth gradient etc

Already on Amiga you could have 64 colors on the background and then 15 colors for each of the four sprites. So 128 colors on screen. And then comes copper. Now with 32 sprites on the SNES and this DMA thingy for the background similar to copper.
What an astonishingly good job for the genesis considering it could only do around 60 colors to the SNES. The sprites suffer on the backgrounds, but the player sprites are really well done.
The MD has the better game on BOTH SF2T and SSF2. Back in the day real street fighter vets knew the full range of combos was only available on the MD. Add the 6 button controller to that mix and its a wrap. Winner Sega 👏
Becouse the cartrige on Sega+6B controller cost less then the outrages price of 89.99£ my mother pay for SF2 cartrige on Snes . Also sega console come out 2 years before Snes when 3 controller was enough for all games. Live sega rest in pace mate is a old console out from game industry and admit Sega was better.

@VCDECIDE only used two buttons in this playthrough. At least map the SNES attacks to use the face buttons instead of the shoulder buttons. I would always map light/heavy attacks to the face buttons. And medium attacks to the shoulder buttons since I used them less frequently. I loved the SNES controller for this game. It's still one of the best controllers ever made for a console. Most modern controllers adopt a similar button layout. I never liked the Genesis controller all that much.
The Genesis version is VERY impressive for a 2D fighting game on the genesis, looks far better than street fighter 2 and runs better than almost any fighting game on the system; the snes of course has better graphics and sound, and more animations, is better, the Genesis reached it´s peak in 1994, the snes in 1997
I have been looking for a place to put my suggestion. Asuka 120% saturn vs ps1. They are almost totally different games with different affects and sprite work.

@JonBR-622 that's not how loading works. The SNES version is cropped, missing animations, and due to the slower processor, has more input lag and slow down.
Piada? Quem lembra sons polifônicos é justamente a versão do Mega Drive.
In the 90s i play both because i have the two consololes. Snes was far superior in visuals and sound, but genesis was smother. Now in 2024 i think the two were good but SNES wins in some areas and genesis in others. its A TIE. If you can only chosee one goes for the snes version.
The SNES has nicer graphics and animations with, among other things, more parallaxes, although the Megadrive displays more vivid colors in a better resolution. The music is more beautiful on the SNES, but the digitized voices sound more muffled. Nintendo's censorship regarding blood is noteworthy. The Megadrive's processor allows four turbo levels, compared with three on the SNES. Last but not least, as you can see from the picture, the Megadrive controller offers much better gameplay thanks to its six buttons and directional pad.
I remember playing both version back in the day I find the genesis version better because of the controller layout, it is much easier to pull off combos and special moves making the game more fast-paced than the SNES.
It seems that both game ports are very close to each other. The final choice is a matter of taste. SNES: much better sound quality, with voice and sound effects similar to the original game. It also has a much better color depth, allowing subtle image effects in the background that the MD/Genesis port doesn’t show. Animation frames are missing and the game feels laggy at some instances. MD/Genesis: much more fluid animation and overall game speed. The color depth is not as good as in SNES, but this aspect is compensated by a higher contrast/ definition of the color palette. The sound is awful, with complete voice captures and sound effects missing. In both ports the backgrounds/scenery seem well implemented, player frames are about the same sizes and despite the larger screen resolution of MD/Genesis compared to SNES, both ports seem pretty similar. I would try anyone, but the bad part is that the Sega port only plays well IF you have a 6-button controller. This is a non-standard feature compared to the normal SNES controller that allowed plug-and-play without add ons. This difference could be a game changer for some people
Even though for many Americans Genesis is far better console despite inferior graphics and sound quality compared to the Snes. However by the mid 90s Genesis was showing it's age while the Snes was pushing itself to near 32 bit style gaming and near arcade levels. Games like Mk2 and super street fighter 2 shows how Snes was far superior than the Sega Genesis with the mid 90s approaching.
I disagree. Mid 90's had a Genesis game renascence. America had a slump of Genesis of game quality a little after the SNES release with a few notable exceptions (e.g. Sonic Series, Streets of Range 2, MK, EA Sports titles). It looked like Sega of America didn't want to bring attention to the locally made games instead bring out high quality Japanese games as well as put way to much focus into CD FMV games. Sega of America made games were lack luster (poor use of color and horrible music). Then by mid 90's a lot of quality Genesis games had a surge of great games coming out (Treasure series, Konami and Capcom games, even good SOA games like Xmen and Comic Zone). I knew a lot of SNES fans that became more interested in the Genesis in the end of the 16-bit era as the SNES games felt more cookie cuter (nice color and sound but the slow processor didn't allow much flexibility in game play). The only thing the Genesis felt limited on was later digitized graphic games like MK3 where the color pallet started to lag behind. IMO the only time SNES got close to 32-bit was SF2 Alpha that was achieved with a huge ROM size and the add-on S-DD1 chip.
That sound is very rough on the sega. Like their voices went through a cheesegrater. Also the backgrounds seem more detailed on the SNES (cleaner boat on Ken's stage, better aurora on Cammy's stage. The thing I would personally award the sega is the button layout.
owned both when they first came out. the genesis one was great with the 6 button pad....BUT...it just felt less premium. the graphics and sound, seemed like the great value version of the game.

Olá. Eu tive as duas versões caseiras desse jogo.
Nobody talks about the insane difference of resolution between the 2 versions ? Fullscreen on MegaDrive and low-resolution on Super Famicom for all the menus and presentation... The CPU of the Super Famicom is way too slow to run the game at the same resolution the MegaDrive is able to do.. Even ingame, the vertical resolution is slightly bigger on the MegaDrive INSANE !
@@fabiojuniooliveira6862 You take the problem the wrong way my friend... Capcom HAD TO ADAPT the MegaDrive version to what the SNES was able to deliver... Otherwise, they were ready to draw more tiles to fil the screen... Little reminder : SNES resolution 256x224, MegaDrive resolution 320x240.
Both excellent ports. SNES obviously edges out the Genesis in graphics. I just can't with the Genesis sound in this port though. It's terrible. Almost ruins the game for me.
@@daveshen0880 - yeah, because it has a few more frames of animation in that particular scene. But overall, the graphics look noticeably better on the SNES due to better color depth. The colors look better in the Ryu scene too.
SNES has slight better colors, the menu layout is better, and the letter fonts and shadowing are better. The SNES also has better sound selections (better audio chip) and better character shadowing. The SNES has the better backgrounds. The SEGA version sprites are less washed out and stand out more. I do think that the SEGA stage music is better compared to the SNES even lacking better sound. The SEGA shows the characters after battle as more "beaten up". I had the SEGA version, and my friend had the SNES version. I think the MAIN and only difference that matters is that the SEGA controller had only three buttons requiring you to get a six button controller to play this optimally.
The sound is much better on the SNES. That Sony chip made a huge difference. The Genesis’ audio was muddy in comparison, and even if the Genesis loaded faster, I can’t stomach the way it sounds like someone pouring water into my eardrums. I have a lot more patience for the SNES’s loading times, because the audio feels closer to the cabinet version.
both were okay in my book for their own reasons. genesis better controls. uncensored details via the lose screens , blood and endings. washed out colors , but a slightly better resolution. garbled but ACCURATE voices along with a complete announcer. sega loses on the music department sce did a WAY better job with the music. snes has bright colors and more detail on the stages. the sound is clear, BUT like the last two games, the voices are muffled and short and nothing like the ones from the arcade. plus some of the songs are hit and miss with that snes capcom twanging nonsense (ex dee jay stage, yuck). the gameplay is solid , but genesis edges it out for having more arcade accurate combos. plus the six button pad for genesis curb stomps the snes pad in regards to accuracy of the button layout and overall comfort. that is my feelings on both games and i like em both the purpose it has. to bring sf home to us
The 6 face button controller is why I picked Sega over SNES. I've always been a fighting game head. Even had some of the Cali legends, like Valle, try to get me to go to tourneys. The Genesis was far superior for fighters. Sega stuck by that through to the DC.
Sega Genesis/Mega-Drive fast CPU 7.6 MHz vs SNES slow CPU 3.58 MHz it does make sense MD version would play better vs SNES unless SNES Super Street Fighter 2 is using SA-1 enhancement chip 10.7 MHz CPU

SNES’ Sony supplied sound chip was incredible!

@@lsn7Up is down and forward is back right? Is HIV also healthy for people to spread around?

I love both versions, each one has pros and cons...the hacks made for the MD are the best though.

@@albertmas3752 I was trying to look but couldn't notice it on my phone. The scrolling up and down is quite obvious on the Nintendo.
@@StRoRo What's really strange as you mentioned is Sagat's stage. It's so weird to have the fixed shadow in Genesis while on SNES it's completely dynamic. At 1st I thought that it might be memory related but the Genesis version uses a higher capacity cartridge.

A musica do final do Bison no Mega Drive parece vinda do DarkStalkers e no SNES parece de Demons Crest.

Back when they sold glorified DLCs as standalone games lol. Folks didn't wanna spend 3 times on the same thing.
For me:
- I think the characters look better, and stand out more on Sega.

11th stage - Buddha & the platforms has slightly different colors. other than, minor differences.
Final stage - the building in the background is Orange & Green on the Genesis, but Red & Green on the SNES. Also the Statues on the SNES version has more colors.
Bison Ending - Genesis version Bison has facial animations & a layered background. SNES version Bison looks like he locked his jaw. But you do get some nice SNES effect going.
Every difference is because the megadrive version plays on 40mbit and the supernes on 32mbit.
Funny, the Genesis version feels like it has HDR turned on....
The SNES version seems to have better contrast to it, you know deeper blacks and colors!!
Like a lot of games, the SNES version has more colors, the Genesis version is displayed in a higher resolution.
@@TheMikeMan777 no Genesis way more contrast. even black and white tv's have contrast.
@@markauer8662 Actually, they're at exactly the same resolution.
actually its the other way around, when you turn on HDR on the monitor it displays more colors , so the colors are more subtle . if you look at the genesis you can tell its fewer colors ,look at the background where you see gradients, since the Geneiss has less of a color pallet it uses fewer colors and shading so certain colors pop since its less in between colors .. while on the NES colors are more gradually and subtle especially in gradients because it uses more colors. hope this helps
Back then my friends and I from school who played the street fighter 2 arcade cabinet after school and had mini tournaments, we all agreed that the Genesis version was as close to the arcade in terms of how quick you can perform all the special moves. We also agreed the SNES version was prettier but that's about it.
What do you mean by "how quick you can perform all the special moves"? Is there input lag on the SNES or something?
@@madspunky SNES games as a rule tend to feel more sluggish than their Genesis counterparts. This game is noticeably punchier on Genesis.
@@SeveredLegs Perhaps because the sound chip wasn't as loud?
Is there a way to check to see if the SNES version had more than 4 frames of input lag (the amount the arcade had)?

I noticed the music continues between Round 1 and 2 like it does in the arcade, on the MD/Genesis port. Also, like other mentioned, it actually has the announcers saying "Round 1/2/3 etc."
While the voices are obviously clearer on SFC, some of them are cut short for some reason, like the elephants trumpeting in Dhalsim's stage, or Mike Bison's infamous "Oaaa" when he does his Dash punches.
Great minds think alike. I couldn't agree with ya more 😎
Sega genesis is better Blast processing 😊
Sprites sizes are the same. SNES version is cropped.
@@Demon_Curse the genesis has more sprites

@Katz2009 in megadrive you can use line interrupts to change the position of the clouds and have a wave effect while the mountains remain intact, all in a single plane in Cammy's bg, as for the scrolling moon, it can be done, perhaps with sprites, anyway, it was a bit of nit picking 😅
As for the reasoning behind my choice, I've already given plenty: 8 million bits more content.
I appreciate the boost in the sega but have to love the old school feel of snes
I don't get why the colors are off, the backround left there is lighter grass in the genesis, where there seems to be dry grass in the snes. why change that?
Probably due to the available color palette of the Genesis. The sega console only had a 512 color palette and out of that it could only display 64 at a time. I believe the SNES had a palette of 32,000 colors and could display 256 at the same time.
SNES was hampered by censorship, 🤔😂
An SF2 mod for the Genesis version came out recently, I'm sure everyone will know exactly what I'm talking about but the name escapes me at this precise moment. Anyway, I do believe that it might just provide the best way to play SF2 on a 16-Bit console. Of course it wasn't the version that was available to gamers back in the early 90s.
I was a SNES kid back then, I NEVER would have admitted this in a million years at the time, but the Megadrive version has it's advantages for sure.

Not a big diff, but I suspect the loading time on the SNES and the less voice are a result of the smaller ROM capacity (iirc., the SNES version is 32 Mbit, while the Genesis is 40).

@@gamesandplanes3984 I guess that those consoles have a global palette like VGA on PC. So there is a hard limit.

Does any of these ports have the cps1 chains?
CPS1 Chains don't exist in super, the MD has them in SCE, only console port to have them.
Cps1's chain combo was a programming error, which Capcom corrected in the Super Street Fighter II version.
@JonBR-622 Sure, but they are part of the arcade gameplay. Combos, in general, were a programming bug.
The SFC ver voice seems to play faster than the arcade original. and HP bar design in the Mega Drive version is the same as the arcade original.
SNES sound was so superior.
Loved the genesis version
Wait, M. Bison is erroneous named Vega. Was this a hack to get to play him?
It always bugged me that they took out the Round 1,2,3 Fight voice over from the SNES version.
It would've made sense if it's a SNES exclusive since it had "Super" in the title
What? You're joking right? That makes as much as saying that Superman games should've been exclusive to the SNES because there's Super in Superman.

Even ingame, the vertical resolution is slightly bigger on the MegaDrive
INSANE !
It was better if Genesis/Mega get fullscreen on gaming (Fight!!!). Error from Capcom
@@fabiojuniooliveira6862
You take the problem the wrong way my friend...
Capcom HAD TO ADAPT the MegaDrive version to what the SNES was able to deliver...
Otherwise, they were ready to draw more tiles to fil the screen...
Little reminder : SNES resolution 256x224, MegaDrive resolution 320x240.
Look at which version sold more.
@@SomeOrangeCat Sell more isn't the same as be made with quality
@@fabiojuniooliveira6862 Word of mouth was more powerful back then.
Both excellent ports. SNES obviously edges out the Genesis in graphics. I just can't with the Genesis sound in this port though. It's terrible. Almost ruins the game for me.
Did you not notice the intro? Ryu's movement on Genesis is better than SNES 🤪
@@24framedavinci39 🎯 the front 6 button made the most difference in speed n execution 💯 a split sec in the fighting world decided many fates..
I loved sound and loading time on MD and graphic is comfortable on SNES.
The Genesis has better gameplay and i stand by that.
They play the same. Stop embarrassing yourself.
@@davidaitken8503 I mean by controller you troll fuck.
Sega Genesis/Mega-Drive fast CPU 7.6 MHz vs SNES slow CPU 3.58 MHz it does make sense MD version would play better vs SNES
unless SNES Super Street Fighter 2 is using SA-1 enhancement chip 10.7 MHz CPU
@@jasonlee7816 Wow. You TROLLBOTS are dusting off all of your old talking points. The clock speed on two completely different CPU's doesn't make a significant difference.
@@davidaitken8503My God get a girlfriend. It’s really not that serious.
Isn't that a Saturn pad?
Yes and no
That’s what the Saturn pads looked like, but there was a 6 button genesis controller
I know they made a 6 button Genesis controller, but the one in the thumbnail looks like it has shoulder buttons
