i think i saw interview vith rob saying that they dont use clicktracks because it feel more natural and that music is not meant to be that perfect in timing.
My drum teacher told me he got to try out McClain's kit and said it was incredibly difficult because of how tall the guy is and his preferential set up (toms set low and flat) causing the bass drums to be so far apart that one has to be able to do the splits to even try what he does on it.
@antonio610 Of course he was recording to the drum track. They are hardly going into the studio and recording all their parts separately without listening to what was recorded previously. That is not the same as recording to a click, a click track is tempo mapped pulse that the musician plays along to. Rob and Dave go into the studio first and Dave lays down his drums while Rob plays along.
very cool but aren´t the floortoms and the bell a bit powerless during the part after the second chorus ??? I think they sound stronger on the album/mp3 etc......
@XplosivX Can't say that I've ever read him say anything of the sort. In fact, in the making of Unto the Locust, Robb is shown clearly recording a riff to a drum track.
1 person doesn't know about metal drumming. Its not all about the blast beats man. we need groove too. bah! like you even understand what i am talking about here.
@antonio610 No it isn't ridiculous . And I am aware of the fact most modern metal bands record to a click. I am a musician and a engineer myself so I know what happens in a studio more than most. But I can tell you for a fact that Machine Head do not record to a click track. Rob Flynn has commented many times on how they do not use any click track in the studio. Do some research before you call someones post ridiculous.
+Andrew Chapman This was taken off of Rock Band, the video game. Since you can lower the volume on separate instruments, you can lower all but the drums. Then listen to the track and record it.
You can also use the ultimate guitar app and mute everything but the drums -it’s not the real drums ,but programmed but it’s so rad to hear all the details he does I did this with Vio-lence and was it total awe of what Perry Strickland plays
@XplosivX That's ridiculous. Every professional metal band records guitars with click tracks or something to keep time. They keep the tempo consistent between the different instruments and the many layers of rhythm guitars and harmonies a band like MH would use. It's just convenient.
@JakballGene Not that I don't think Dave is an super awesome drummer but being 1000x better than Lars isn't so hard, to be honest. Lars is the worst famous drummer
I love his setup and his style of drumming, groovy!
One of the best drum tracks ever.
What's amazing is that Dave never plays to a metronome for Machine Head records. Takes a lot of skill to do that.
U should never use a metronome, period!
The song used to be one of my favorites... and still is.
his drum setup is so awesome!!!! ^_^ i wanna play on them just once

It always astound me how far apart his bass drums are!
So crazy! But great drummer ✌
Cheers from France! 🍻
I own this same kit and it was his too, except its blue and black and I don't set it up like that
i love that chain-crash in solo part that hits in not on "1" but on "and", fucking perfect
Hell yes it is so sick! That Is a bad ass set up.

Do you maybe have Imperium drum track? Or know where to get it?
Yessss!!!!😍😍😍😍🍻🍻🍻🍻

how did you get the drum track?
@XplosivX do you happen to know the reason they dont use em? ive always wondered that.
@j0gan673 Sure, but he plays to guitar tracks, which were recorded to a click track. You make it sound like he just hears the song in his head.
@antonio610 It's very different playing to a song that's in time and playing to a click track.
1 person doesn't know about metal drumming. Its not all about the blast beats man. we need groove too. bah! like you even understand what i am talking about here.
@Soulrust1 omg how did this find the way to a drumming video ??? ;-)
Hell yes!
I want an I am hell insturmental. Where do i get it^^
@TimoKingWOB basically searched on google for aesthetics of hate master tracks. Look for the .ogg files, cant remember where i got them though sorry.
@Villex93 It's a really annoying setup but I really want to try it...strange feeling :)

Please could you do this for Locust?? or atleast tell me how to do it to tracks. this is exactly what I need.

No they don't, no good band records to a click track!
I used to play drums like this... but then I took an arrow in the knee
Lol
same with HalO plz
@antonio610 Machine Head don't play to a click track.
can you do a vid about travis smith drums?
@drummin4InTheShadows Hah strange because his setup really annoys me...
