    There is no cinema near me that put this play on their program. That’s why, I truly hope that we’ll be able to it stream soon. It doesn’t matter how much it would cost. It already looks like a masterpiece. ✨

    This book was beautifully written but very depressing and I feel like it is going to be one of those things that will be difficult to translate into other mediums.

    I saw this at the Savoy Theatre, London. It is an amazing play, but it’s brutal. Difficult subject matter. Not for the squeamish. A woman in the row in front fainted at the sight of fake blood. That’s how real it felt. The whole play hits all your senses, the lighting works particularly well at this. You come out elated, having watched a fantastic piece of theatre but also very raw. A sensory punch in the face. Worth it!

    Such a gorgeous play and SO phenomenally filmed i sometimes forgot it was a theatre production and not a movie. Punched me in the solar plexus many times, and made me cry. 11/10, absolutely recommend (though maybe check the trigger warnings first).

    It’s just not hitting, I need a show or something. Theatrical acting can be very obvious and forthcoming, I need something subtle, that builds slowly and then comes down and then punches you in the face all at once. Sometimes the original text is just too good and could never be adapted in anyway.

    The thing about actors in plays is that they have to exagerate everything from there facile expressions to there voice and it's great when you're watching in a theatre but not so much on video.

    This book is much to long for a play. They have to make a show with at least 10 episodes to capture it. better 20.

      What did you picture, I'm just interested? I've watched the play twice in London, Pinter/Savoy, and I watched the filmed version at the cinema yesterday afternoon (I was sat far away in the theatres, so it was good to see the actors' expressions at close proximity).

      @@JournalistwomanI agree with him but I’ve only seen this bit so far, I think it just seems that the actor playing Jude seems more like Willem physically and Willem seems more like Jude

    • @Journalistwoman
      @Journalistwoman 7 місяців тому +8

      @@lilliethomas3490 Yes this is what I thought, and I've written the same in other posts/comments, especially about Jude's "ethnically ambigious" description in the novel and that he is probably part NativeAmerican, perhaps. Luke does adhere a little more to the character's description, yet Norton (who is definitely more Willem in looks) gives an excellent, intelligent and sensitive performance. Luke initially read for the part of Jude, and James for Willem...they swapped roles.
