You guys are vicious. Keep in mind- I've heard like five songs, and learned their names last week. Cut me some slack. Of course I am going to miss the point of most of this. I am new to it, and everything is first listen! At one point, everyone is 'new' to a group.

I don't think my comment was vicious at all. I was explaining to you why Saiki was emotional and why the song, especially that performance, had more meaning to long-time fans than it would for new fans.
You're doing great reactions! Don't apologize for your opinions!

Don't worry I likeyour reactions, and if you are fairly new to a band then you wont know of their huge catalogue of diverse songs and you wont know much of their 10year history and relationship with fans. I think/hope my 2 comments were respectful. First one just a comment on the song was the last one of a 33 song 10th anniversarry concert and how good the band was. Second comment was that it was the last song of a 3.5 hour concert and not all songs in this scenario are or should be out and out hard rock /metal bangers. I suppose the pros and cons of a reaction are Cons:: Reaction implies no prior research on the song so that it is a reaction to a song in isolation (not part of a whole concert or CD). Secondly if you are a newish reator to a band you will have no idea of their catalogue or history. Pros are thatit is a reaction just purely on the song with no pre-conceived ideas base on knowledge

Remember this song was preceeded by 32 other songs. You can't have a whole concert just out and out hard/rock metal shredding. Light and shade is required and Band-Maid do that with expertise. Also last song at a very emotionl milestone concert for the band. Not about an individual but about the relationship the band have for their fans and hoping their journey will continue together. Band-maid have a few songs dedicated to the fanbase

You need some context for why Saiki was so emotional at the end of this song.
Let me take you back to February of 2020.
Band-maid had just completed their 1.5 year long, very successful "World Domination Tour" and were a band on the rise. They had just announced that they had been booked to play at the prestigious Budokan in early 2021, which would be their largest show ever.
Then the pandemic hit. Everyone's lives were derailed, and just when Band-maid was about to explode in popularity, it all stopped.
Keep in mind that Budokan for a Japanese artist is like Madison Square Garden for an American.
So the band went into the studio instead and created one of the greatest hard rock albums this 57-year-old has ever heard ("Unseen World").
While the world was shut down, Band-maid's popularity began to grow via UA-cam and they started performing online concerts to stay engaged with their fans.
When the pandemic lifted, they began touring again, playing 500-1000 capacity venues in Japan and the US.
This performance at Yokohama Arena at the end of their 10th year anniversary tour was the largest in the band's history... about 10,000 people.
And this song was the 33rd song in a 3.5 hour performance-for-the-ages and the emotion of 3 years just spilled out of Saiki at the end.
They didn't reach Budokan, but 2.5 years of hard work culminated in Yokoari in front of a Budokan-sized crowd.
The BluRay of this show comes out in one week. You should try to get a copy.

Yokohama Arena is actually quite a bit larger than Budokan. Yes, Budokan has long been a prestigious venue for bands to play, but this is bigger and has long been their true goal. Kanami always dreamed of playing Yokohama Arena and they made it happen.

This song to end their concert is why Band Maid fans love them so much. It's a dramatic, beautiful, heartfelt and musically inspiring closing song. You could tell the band and the audience were very emotional during the performance. The heartfelt response by the audience really showed that. I'm sure there were not only goose-bumps and tears from the bandmembers but the audience as well.

The past few years this has been a show-ending song. It’s perfect for that purpose when you consider the lyrics which can apply to the band’s relationship with the fans as well as the story about a relationship between individuals. They ended Lalapalooza with this song. A crowd where many never heard them before, but they really got into it. It was a bold, brilliant, choice.

This song for newer fans is what I like to say advanced Band-Maid. It's not one you sit around and listen to a lot but being in the room with it live, you kinda grab the Madiacs next to you and sing and cry. The song is about the band and us the fans. It's really not important the literal words but the feelings that's going out. When I saw them on their first U.S. tour after covid the drummer,Akane, lost it during this song and was playing with tears steaming down her face, it was the last night of the tour and they went through a lot. It was something ive never felt in my almost 40 years of going to concerts and it's why this is my favorite band period. To do both, to charge you up and rock out and also to hit you deeply with emotional songs is a rare combo not many bands can pull off. So yes this song is for lives because it's for us, I just wish everyone who likes this band gets to see them live because it's an experience that cannot be duplicated and changes your whole perspective on not only them but, I feel, on what music can be.

Yeah, the band has talked about how they try to pace concerts. Earlier, back in 2016-18 or so, they did mostly go for the fast-paced hard rock thing. And they were playing a lot of Japanese festivals, in the hight of summer, so really hot and humid. And Kobato has said that she started worrying they might actually end up killing someone in the audience. There have been clips circulating of Kobato from the stage trying to get the audience to back off more, not crowd each other so much, and to look out for people struggling and needing help. She has talked about the imagery from the stage, of hosing down the audience with water, and watching the steam rise. At one point they apparently bought and distributed a kind of re-oxygenation candles, emergency stuff you burn inside submarines when things have gone disastrously wrong.
But then one solution was to simply write a bunch of slower songs, more balady, more pop. And they stuck quite a number on the 2019 album "Conqueror". Then that had some fans worrying that Band-Maid had gone all soft and pop - which wasn't alleviated by Kanami shooting her mouth off about trying to write a "radio hit" for Band-Maid and actually being quite into the soft pop stuff - which seemed confirmed when they released the "Start Over" single and video, which was very divisive with some fans. So, some people were worried this was the new direction of the band...? But then in 2021 they released "Unseen World", which was Kanami going "prog metal" as much as anything, so not soft at all really.

this song is from the 'conqueror' album , their record with the most toned down/mid-tempo material. the ladies consciously made it so due to an injury/a fan that got hurt in one of their servings while they were promoting 2018's 'world domination'. [they disclosed this reason during their christmas acoustic serving]
'endless story' is a staple ender to their special gigs, like the line cube [unknowingly, pre-global lockdown], the chicago show [last leg of '22 us tour], and now this yokoari serving. it's their sort of 'will see you again' message to the fans as much as an appreciation to the support they get for their music.
if you found this somewhat like a left-of-field song, you'll be surprised to hear they wrote two love letters -- the first a heart-piercer and the second for a joyful reunion.

This is not my preferred Band Maid lane of music, I love the more frenetic wall of sound. That said, this song was the closer for their 10th anniversary tour and it works perfectly as a “thank you, we love you!” Closing for the fans at shows and after a huge show (3.5 hours for this one) I think it’s a beautiful was to end.

Band-Maid ends their shows with this song quite often. Akane in Chicago is famously crying during this song, as well as here, all with a smile! All the ladies were showing emotion at the end of this song/show! Kanami wrote the song, Miku wrote the lyrics. The Conqueror album has several slower, mid tempo songs. I've read that Miku saw some of the fans almost collapsing towards the end of their shows and she encouraged Kanami to write a few songs to let the fans decompress and be alright. That's how much these ladies care about their fans!

I understand exactly where you’re coming from here. My first opinion on this song was mixed. I’m much more drawn to the power rock and progressive stuff. However…
After you’ve been infected with the Maid Magic and have been a serious fan for some time, this song comes at you differently.
Band Maid used to close shows with “Choose Me.” Then it was “Domination.” And now they close with “Endless Story.” It’s an important song to them, and like you said, it’s made for crowd participation.
You’re going to feel much differently after you’ve experienced a live performance for yourself.
“All over the map” is a great way to describe Band Maid’s catalog! I tend to refer to this style of theirs as “cinematic.” There are several more. Here they are in order of my preference:
    “Wonderland”
    “About Us”
    “Page”
Their ability to musically shapeshift is something that sets them apart. It’s not like when Motley Crue did “Home Sweet Home,” where it’s obviously a rock band doing a slower version of a rock song. Band Maid plays these cinematic, emotional melodic songs as if it were their specialty.
Thanks for highlighting my favorite band, my friend. As a reward, I’ll offer you a song request that not many reactors do. It’s a deep cut banger that will bring out the Maidiacs in full force: “CLANG” (live of course)

the reason why most of the western bands "suck" is cause they stick to a set lane and dont venture out of that lane or very rarely venture out of it. where as band maid is basically a lane of its own and that lane basically involves pretty much what ever genre you can think of and most of that will be in one song.

You are off the mark on much of your analysis of Endless Story, but I do agree with you saying that it is often a song like this that sticks with you after a show, as their song "Memorable" did for me. There is a nice MV for Memorable which you could react to, unless the softer side of the multifaceted Band-Maid isn't your thing. I'm guessing you haven't seen their acoustic or maiko performances.

I don't want to sound negative towards you, so don't take this that way. Never assume that you know what a Band-Maid song will sound like until after you listen to it. They do not repeat themselves. They aren't some band that plays the same song with different lyrics for 45+ years because "it rocks." They're not a band that somehow has millions of fans worldwide that has just re-recorded the same album every year since 1982 under a different title because they don't have a real composer and all they can really do is copy their lyrics from whatever their leader read this year, only to put those lyrics to the same friggin gallop every time. Band-Maid composes music first, starting with Kanami. Her composition is then added to by Misa and Akane. Finally, Miku and/or Saiki writes the lyrics to that musical composition. They don't stay in one lane with their music. They constantly challenge themselves to do something new. That's why those of us who follow them consider then to be the best band in the world.

They are very eclectic in what they write and play. A few songs at about this pace or a little slower, most are about what you've been hearing, Hate? is near the upper end, and a few face melters. I think if you polled 100 fans you'd get the same 3-5 favorite songs (in different orders) from maybe 20-30 of them. If you dislike the slow stuff or want a guaranteed banger just say something, I'm sure you'll get a bunch of helpful comments. Like any band that's been around and active for a length of time there's a bunch of lore that will make sense in time. Fanbase is passionate but a bit older and generally polite and you'll very rarely get a "Why'd you pick that one?" response. Live is almost always the way to go, but there are some that the MV came out better or is iconic in some way. Thanks for getting up early to do this for us.@@zack_reacts
