    This is our 100th published video. And we’d like to dedicate it to the architect of GI Joe canon: Mr Larry Hama. He gave us so much. Writing any GI Joe fiction is made easy when you build on the bedrock he created.
    Larry, GI Joburg salute you.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  5 років тому +6

      I’d be curious... tho I don’t hold my breath. Larry was schooled by the great Wally Wood; there’s a high bar to his storytelling. If I was to guess a criticism I’d say he thought these were fine vignettes; but no real character development. I would have to agree! But all I ever strive to reveal is the tip of the iceberg. You and I know these are really just toy sizzle reels. The real adventure should take place in the minds of the audience when they take up their old playthings afterwards.

  • @beach7694

    I occasionally come back to this. Burg, I consider this episode a high water mark in not only the world you guys have created but in Gi Joe storytelling at large. It's beautiful. The music while jinx is being introduced gives me the feels. The voice acting for jinx is so great, the portrayal of snake eyes is perfect. A+

    @GI JOBURG
    where do you get all the background scenery and little crates and oil drums and stuff??
    I always set up garage sales and dig through that $.25 and free boxes for scrap toys, get a giant gun for a robot uses a gun placement, or oil drum for car racing set, sometimes I’ll find a cool little Lego wall that I can spray paint sand over so you can’t see the little connectors.
    maybe find good cardboard cut outs or toilet paper rolls etc. in the paper Mâché.
    then I could do a base coat paint wet brush dry brush hair brush and then touchup… Then gloss or flat mat it…??
    But I see that you got more professional stuff in the background, like those ammo crates, A couple of walls she was hiding behind.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  5 років тому

      Full disclosure: we aren’t big on set dressing at all! Most of what you see is shot on location and I’m literally shooting toys against whatever textures and scenery I find. The boxes were an exception and something I found included with a bunch of Indiana Jones figures I had recently purchased.
      Sounds like you’ve got the right idea with your parts bin diving; me, I’m lazy. I’ll sooner scout a real location that offers all I need than take the time to build it.

      I couldn’t agree with you more. Always good to blow the dust off our old toys and get them outside in the environment they were meant to be in.
      I’ve done a few retro style Star Wars and Indiana Jones commercials. Kept them simple and cheesy just like the ones from the late 70’s and early 80’s. Had a blast making them with my kids. Below is a link to the first one I did.

    you know something I enjoy these because it brings me back.
    I often wonder if kids nowadays enjoy this stuff.
    If I was a parent I'd show these to my kid because it makes you use your imagination. The
    older I get the more I am happy I was a kid when I was. We had TV and nintendo but it wasn't in my hand 24/7.
    I'm rambling but yes these are cool they force you to use your brain in ways it hasn't been used in awhile and I always like stop motion stuff in the 80's and early 90's

      Never feel the need to apologize for getting your thoughts aired on these comments threads! I love the feedback. And you’re totally right; the “perfect storm” of our childhood is something the next generation have lost for the most part to tablets. But I can happily report that there is a percentage of our audience that are kids and they are fanatical about this stuff. It gives me hope that while it may not soar to the lofty heights of the 80’s and 90’s; our style of imaginative play with the coolest toys ever created will never completely disappear. I will certainly be encouraging it like crazy to my kids.

      Thanks again for the Superchat my brother. And to answer your question about
      Jinx’ romantic ties... I’m of the opinion that not every woman in Joe canon needs to hitch her wagon to one of her teammates. It was a very comic-tropey way of including romance in the book and toon. I think we’re more likely to pick our battles when it comes to the lovey dovey stuff. Mainframe and Zarana gets a pass from me because it makes for an interesting device. Destro and Baroness is a maybe. And as for Flint/Jaye; Scarlett/Snake Eyes; Jinx/Falcon... lets say only if it presents really interesting story options.

    Superb! Really had that 80's ninja vibe to it. Jinx running along the roof tops, leaping and tumbling about. That face off with Snakes Eyes, then the Cobras, I wonder, was Stormshadow lurking in the shadows during all this. And the backgrounds, what city is that in China? Absolutely a wonderful production, and voice acting! Hope Hollywood is paying attention.. YO! JOE-BURG!

    • @gijoburg

      Constantly! Everything is bagged and every time I take the accessories out and put them back in I’m doing a quick mental inventory. To date I think I’ve only lost two guns! And to think I went to sea with an original Moray lens still in the spotlight… I think I would probably refrain from doing that again!
