    Hi Paul, loved the video another one local to me.i use to live in Woodhouse years ago not near the tracks or station though unfortunately so much railway history around here it's amazing. Loved the freight train that was flyin down the tracks! See you on the next one Paul. ❤😊👍

      Yeah big shame about the signal boxes. Very sad time seeing them being ripped apart.

    I remember once getting the train to Woodhouse and then getting the 52 bus to return into the centre of Sheffield. The bus terminus is a short walk away.

    Don't worry about including the Mill Station, I've lived all my life in Woodhouse Mill and we are Technically in Rotherham, but step out of the garden and we are in Sheffield. My Uncle lived across the road and he was in Woodhouse Mill, Sheffield. Our phone area code is Sheffield and our address is Sheffield with a Sheffield postcode and we don't have a single bus that goes direct to Rotherham. BTW that paint covering the brickwork on Woodhouse station was extremely badly covered in graffiti and they decided to go the easy route and paint over it all and it looks horrible (but better than the graffiti).

      😄 good old Sheffield border lottery. We look at some houses in Aston a few ywars ago when we were moving. All classed as Sheffield too, even though it was in Rotherham.
      I wonder if the red paint is anti-vandal.

    Another interesting video Paul.. Amazing that the old road was once so busy it needed 4 tracks. Surprisingly Treeton loop is still place and does get used. Not that long ago traffic for Tinsley could be held there and there was also the sidings for Orgreave

    • @JANGLEPOP1
      @JANGLEPOP1 3 місяці тому +1

      So did the GC route. The "siding" with the buffer stop was the goods line to Sheffield.

    • @WobblyRunner
      @WobblyRunner  2 місяці тому

      Ironically that Tinsley line from Treeton was the first time I ever "saw" you.
      Don't you sometimes get parked up at a loop near Canklow Russ? 🙂

    Another fantastic episode Paul 🎉 lots of interesting history, amazing how the site has changed over a relatively short period of time.
    Not sure if the original station master would agree with the Woodhouse station buildings now being various shades of purple! (crimes against railway architecture in play again!) 😂
    Keep the videos coming! All the best mate 😊👍

      Thanks very much David. Slim pickings isnt it for evidence 😄
      At least they've got some flowers. I've always thought that Woodhouse station must be one of the most unwelcoming stations in the area.

    Excellent work as always Paul.
    I feel a little bit guilty for not letting you know in time, the runaround siding at the still-current Woodhouse station went right around and joined onto the main line again at the other end until some time in the late 90s or early noughties.
    I recall having to use the footbridge just to get to the Sheffield bound platform when first visiting there in 1996

      @@WobblyRunner welcome Paul by any chance the railway line you were visiting did it have any connection with the former Wood head route that is one former railway that fascinates me even the parts of the former Wood head route that still survives 👍😊

    • @WobblyRunner
      @WobblyRunner  2 місяці тому

      @@stephenchecksfield632 it sure did. Woodhouse was on the former Great Central Mainline, which ran onwards to Woodhead. The electrification stopped just shy of Woodhouse station I believe.

    Another interesting video mate, always find them interesting, I had no idea the Sheffield area had so many stations.
    Nothing to do with Sheffield but a couple of years ago I was in the Sutton in Ashfield area and I visited 3 former stations all on the former GCR(as you mentioned the GCR in this video)Pilsley, Sutton in Ashfield Central, and Sutton in Ashfield Town, can’t remember but have you covered those stations?

      I did look at some of the Sutton stations a few years ago on the Great Northern. So much going off around there.

    DOn't think there is anything to see but Attercliffe Station between Worksop Road and Darnall Road might be good. Also, Darnall Station might be still in use, but it might as well not be. I think it's the least used station in the North, I think Geoff spoke about it once, I used to see it from this house I stayed in briefly, used it myself once for the experience.

    • @WobblyRunner
      @WobblyRunner  2 місяці тому

      It's unbelievable seeing older photos of Darnall station, when you see the state it's in now. A very bleak place, even when passing through.

    • @OutcastSpartan
      @OutcastSpartan 2 місяці тому

      @@WobblyRunner A lot like Darnall and attercliffe, they were never the jewels of the city or anything, but pictures of them 100-150 years ago, looked like a nice place to live.

    I always cringe seeing Woodhouse station in that state. I expect the horrible wine paint covers graffiti, but the section above that's a dirty lilac with orange or yellow showing through? What on earth is that?! Boarded up windows too, just such a shame. On old photos it looked really quite attractive. Nice to see those old telegraph poles still standing. Noticed some chunks of courses of brick laying on their sides at the base of the one over the access gate near the beginning...

    • @WobblyRunner
      @WobblyRunner  3 місяці тому +1
