- The dark chamber within Deathevan's lair hides Barubary, the demon from the game's prologue. Barubary is the hardest boss in the game, quite frankly. All of his attacks hit the entire party, and his normal physical attack gets stronger as his HP dwindles. After dealing about 1200 HP of damage, he challenges the hero to a one-on-one fight. Saying yes leads to a truly grueling battle. I took this route because of the extra challenge, and also to preserve the fusions of my other party members (fusions are lost when near critical health). He has about 1000 less HP in that fight as well, but victory is nigh impossible without a stash of extracts (often dropped from monsters on monster island) and a few Wise Balls for the G. Dragon (you only find a few of them, and I save them for this and Deathevan). It also helps if Ryu (or Kain in my case) has higher agility then Barubary. This is because once you've dealt another 1200 HP of damage, his physical attack becomes much stronger, enough to kill you in two hits. Being able to heal immediately afterwards is imperative.
The treasure he speaks of is the Life Bracelet (protects from the death spell). You'll need to muck about in the dark with Sten's reach and also someone who can whack objects (ie: Katt). - Ігри
Barubary was always such an enigma to me. He somehow was able to get up to the surface, past the gates, to inflict mental trauma on Ryu...but then went back below, presumably sealing the path behind him so other demons wouldn't get out the same way. And when you run into him the second time, it's more like he's testing you to see if you're strong enough to actually fight against DeathEvans, rather than some penultimate confrontation. Oh he goads you into attacking him, and actually enjoys the fact you choose to face him solo in some kind of honor duel. And when you finally beat him, he praises your strength, directs you on the path to Death Evans, before presumably dying. Who was Barubary? What was his relationship to DeathEvans (since he kinda just steps aside to let you do your thing after he tests you). Was he a former Dragon Clanner that had been down in the depths so long he'd mutated that far, into a demon of unprecedented size and power? Was he actually a demon, or was he some kind of other entity that was never defined?

Really is a good point. I would have liked to get some backstory. Never thought of it when I played through the game as a kid.
don't forget that: if you beat him alone, he will tell you to go right and you'll get a hidden item. Forgot what it was, but it helped a lot more afterwards
He's a NPC that was drawn from an artist that said hey let's put this dude in the game as a boss. What's his backstory? None just some big dude with cool music!
@@countereclipse It was called a Life Bracelet. It guarded the bearer from the Death spell which The game's highest lvl demon's liked to use on you. K. Sludge on giant monster island and Deathevan the final boss come to mind.

My theory is that Deathevan was not a demon himself, but simply became their leader to fulfill mutual goals (death, destruction of the upper world). The demons aren't his mindless servants, they just agree to work for him and fulfill his wishes. Barbaroi, may be their actual leader, but respects Deathevan's strength enough to swear fealty to him. He hears about your legend, the one who will open the gate and allow his armies to leave. he takes delight in the idea of Deathevan's coming unto the upper world, but takes even more delight in seeing your power first hand. In beating him, he recognizes you as strong enough to challenge Deathevan's power. His main motivations are seeking out power and using it. He's definitely evil, but isn't a mindless destroyer.
I'm sorry to say.....but your theory is wrong.
In one part of the game, after you get to the dragon village, your told that after the Goddess was defeated she "left" behind a "small" scar.
This was Deathevn.
It is really debated if Myria herself was a demon or not.....You will need some info from the other BoF games, BoF 4 to be precise. And maybe some from BoF 3 as well.
So in a sense....Deathevn was Myria's "SON".
So this in turn would have made him a "god" as well.
But i do believe that he was a Demon in every sense.
Now as to why Barubary was "Stronger" the Deathevn, this is most likely due to the fact that sometimes the "Leader" of the army is not the strongest, brightest, cunning, or anything else i could mention.
This has been seen through out history. A wise leader knows that he needs good underlings to get the job done. So he might approach you and say "Hey come work for me and ill give you all this stuff".
A bad leader simply says "You belong to me now".
So even though Barubary was "Stronger" the Deathevn, Deathevn was "TECHNACLIY" a "god". And this would have influence Barubary's decision's.
Also "MOST" demons simply want to kill, slaughter, and other such things for no reason or any reason they can get.
Barubary wasn't the true leader of the army, he was most likely second in command, and he agreed with what Deathevn wanted to do. So Barubary worked for Deathevn.
But he also wasn't a "mindless" minion as you your self said. He also even says him self that "maybe not killing Ryu when he was a kid" wasn't the best idea.
But he does praise Ryu's power and bravery.
So.....I believe that Deathevn was the true leader of demons, and that Barubary was second in command. Also a respectable villain.

@giveagoodsong Yep. They were all called "endless" in BOF4. Demons, gods, dragons are all that.
Best villain in RPG's in my opinion. People forget that villains can be honorable as well. They're allowed to have dimensions, and these days, you don't get that.
@Holden Mcgroine Yes he does have dimensions, the first time he spared him and told him of the visions he's seen. This time he questions after the battle even why they attempting to kill him, clearly he doesn't just blindly follow Deathevn.
Actually all those scenes of the opening eye ball are Barubary, where he praised his god and expressed his fear. I definitely always thought he was interesting. But yea I always wondered how the hell did he get in and out of Gate with the Dragon blocking it. I wish they would have explained that stuff a little more.
This game would have been so much better with a better script imo. I really thought the plot was one of the most interesting of all the JRPG's I've played.
@@notgedd And I just remembered - about half way through the game when you are in Hometown you are told that people in Gate saw the demon that haunted you as a child before the trees turned brown. It could be that it went back to infinity at that point, though I believe you can travel to Gate before then and the cave is still empty. Plot holes galore for sure. I'd love to play it again in the retranslated version, seems like it's way more detailed and probably resolves some of the glaring plot holes seen in the American version. it's still one of my favorite JRPG plots of all time - I liked it more than most FF's.

I agree with most of what has been said. Capcom needs to do a Remake of this or a Remaster. Touch up the story a bit for clarity. Barubary is one of the best Villains in RPGs and this story was haunting. Breath if Fire brought so much to the table that people don't realize.
I've always felt comfortable with this party. And Nina's Banish ability is what makes getting through Infinity w/fusions much less of a chore.
Am I the only who believes that the one on one choice is the canon one?

He might if he felt he had something he had to bury from his old self with this monster. I think this scene would have benefited from talking Ryu from bof1. Other scenes that come to mind are the Ryu and Katt moments, Bow could have been the Beavis to Ryu's Butthead, Ryu's potential dialog in township with the party, ect. I feel BOF2 could have been more layered with Ryu talking like in 1. Not to knock the more nuanced original BoF2, mind you!

That counter attack gave him a heart attack there. Lucky didnt follow by a melee swing or boltX. Still down to 6hp

The rpg bosses should level up, so when the hero grow up they don't get beaten.
then why tf should you fight enemies then if literally you can fight the final boss at lv1 or at the other end you get to lv 99 but still have your starting equipment so your enemies get AWHOLE LOT stronger while you just get ome shot or if just buffing ot HP then it will become a boring fight where the boss cant kill you but you will have to chip away the boss massive HP pool.
this is an Rpg so if people want to get stronger to fight boss easier then let them and if you want a challenge then dont grind and PLEASE dont talk about stuff that you dont know about like balancing just dont

Yep very. But this fight is probably supposed to be down to the wire like that, especially at lvl 42. If I remember correctly that's not entirely over leveled, so he did this with preparation and skill. I didn't know this was possible, but then again I played this game when I was like 11 years old. Lol
if you noticed a lot of the demon bosses represented a deadly sin. Augus=Wrath, Joker=Lust, Kuwadora=Envy, Trout=Greed, M.C Tusk=Sloth, Tunlan Queen=Gluttony, Shupkay=Pride
Don't be scared to fight this big bad without your friends. Barubary's attack is designed to hit everyone in your party at once. That means everyone is getting hit & constantly needing to be healed.
Which is not that hard to do (especially if you have more than 1 healer). But the fight winds up a lot easier going solo....which is rare.🤺

the dragon takes too much MP (AP).
So I pretty much only use 1 dragon and then beat him up the old fashioned way.
Wiseballs are very limited in this game, and I prefer to save them for Evan, which is a much longer battle.
I do know how to make more Wiseballs in Township, but I don't usually choose those houses.
Edit:
Even using only 1 dragon, you can wait till his HP is low and possibly finish him off.
You know he is getting weak when he starts to cheat and attack more.
You can also count how much damage you have given him. Offhand I think he has about 3900 HP if you fight him alone. (As a group he has a little over 4000 HP.)
I'd do this spamming G Dragon and eating a million Roasts and W Fruits. Always seemed easier to me than trying to spam heal the fight.
Oh well, Barubary was such a cool guy. Maybe the only villain in this game who wasn't a sadistic jerk.

um, when I click on the barubary final fantasy 6 fight the video pops correctly but says, ryu vs barubary and the comments are for that video..... am I the only one this is happening to?
Indeed. You can only do it with the great bird, and of course, that's impossible after the demons escape from the gates.

That was one hell of a hard fight.
Well, when I first attempted the battle, Barubary had higher agility and thus the damage from the previous round wouldn't be healed in time. I used one of the items in my inventory that increases the agility stat (can't remember what it is called), and it was just enough to allow me to go first every time. But having a pile of extracts is the only reliable way to heal. And admittedly, it was a complete guess that my last regular attack would win the fight (based on estimation of his HP).
It's southeast of the original site of Township, on a small patch of land between the sea and the big mountain range. Get into a fight in the area, and the fish spot should appear there afterward.
I never beat this guy when I played this game as a kid. This is as far as I ever got. 😢
I remember watching my friend play this. Took about 10-20 tries. And when he finally beat him he was screaming lol. So intense for early JRPG's. This is the real final boss, because the actual final boss who comes directly after is comparatively a cake walk.

@@bassandspaceable I think the worst part about baruberry is that you must kill him quick with G dragon as his attacks are too high but deatheven health is also a lot so you need w fruit for him too

Well... this is the classic case of good versus evil, overconfident versus focused etc....
Barubarys overconfidence was his undoing.
I am glad I finished this game last night. There were just WAYYYYY too many battles. It is a cool game!!! But, OMG every other step.... boom monsters!! Pretty sure I didn't get all the items in game. The walkthrough came in handy. I don't see how anyone could do this game without the walkthrough. The game itself has very little info about all of the stuff in the game. Cool game though. If there were less battles it would have been better.. I got headaches sometimes from all the battles!!
Yeah I was a kid when I played this game. I replayed it when I was older and realised I had missed loads of stuff and accidentally killed Ganer in st Eva's cathedral thing so I got the bad ending.
Haha for real. They could have reduced the enemy encounter rate but the game wouldn't have been nearly as long.
@@bassandspaceable I honestly feel like it gives it that proper 'lengthy journey feel' that old rpgs were so good for. I was turned off in the GBA version by how quick I was leveling and progressing, it throws off the pacing to me.
would just like to say its not the dragon sword its something called the LifeBr I think which makes immune to instant death. I know because I had all the dragon equipment before I took him on
@MrFlexbuffchest true nina fused has more wisdom than bleu temporary but overall bleu can reach 255 wisdom in her 50's since most all of her level up stats increase by 15 points. by lvl 70 bleu wouldve pretty much maxed out. but still i use the 4 i mentioned earlier as my main party

This is probably one of the coolest bosses ever.
Just walk right as soon as you can move after the fight. You need to have Sten and Katt because there are a couple obstacles.
How are you recovering ap as well? Your only using extract which only recovered hp

great but extract wasnt needed since having them takes up item space. roast wouldve been better to bring since u can carry 9 in one item stock and have more item space for other things.

Bring unshamanised Sten and Katt. From where Bartleby was standing, have Katt turn right and use her field action to swing and break some invisible rocks. Walk straight and keep breaking rocks with Katt. Like I said, you can't see them. After a bit you should see a chest but won't be able to reach it. Here now switch to Sten and use his feild action to reach over and pull the team across to where the box is. Inside is a Life Brace which will guard against Death spells! This makes hunting K. Sluges on Giant Monster Isle a breeze. Enjoy!

u mustve lucked out because guts does have a chance of missing. i learned that first hand years ago.
In the solo against him guts works very well for some reason, almost like Ryu is trying extra hard. I was blown away when Ryu won using nothing but sheer determination me and my little brothers were jumping with joy in the living room! Good times!
Seriously. Guts is the way to go. It's almost a full heal at low health in this fight. Though admittedly, it does suck if it misses when you need it most.
I too beat him with guts alone and until that point i never realized how strong it was. Maybe it was rigged to perfomr better in that fight?

Hello after 11 years. I don't think it does. Altho using your party makes him a harder boss to face since his normal attacks do damage to everyone

So I had gotten this game on a ROM on a VM on Windows 10, and he kicked my ass in the first fight. Is that supposed to happen?
The first fight, in the cave at the beginning of the game? Yeah, that's a scripted event you cannot win.
A VM is a virtual machine which is wired into the computer, and doesn't need a password.

roast is much better to have over the extract. sure thy both heal completely but extract u can only have one of each to roast can stock 9 in an item spot.

its better than extract because u can stock 9 in one item stock annd it fully restores you.

And even at level 50, you'd still take a ton of damage. This game is pretty stingy when it comes to leveling up.
I was at 70-something when I beat him. Didn't feel any easier.

Even shamanized Nina's stats aren't superior to Bleu. Bleu is the only character to get a natural 255 wisdom without items or shamans. Bleu also can attain the maximum allow 511AP The reason to use Nina over Deis is for the banish ability.
The reason to use Nina over Bleu/Deis is simply because some people like her more (especially this incarnation of Nina is better character-wise than Bleu). The game is not easier or unbeatable for using one over the other 🤦♂️

MisterGuimond I'm pretty sure the best sword in the game is the "EmpireSD," which you get by fishing from a spot near the original location of Township. This sword appears in later games as the Royal Sword.
Royal Sword was most accurate name of it, Emperor Sword and Empire Sword were both off in BoF1 and 2. :)
