  • Last week, while on another fishing trip, Capt. Justin Bowles and I pondered about some out-of-the-box areas that might be holding some fish, and one of the destinations that came up was the stretch of power lines that are strung like endless Christmas lights across western Lake Pontchartrain.
Neither of us had fished the stanchions that support these lines for many years, but we decided to go check them out in hopes of doing battle with drag-stripping redfish.
As it turned out, it was a great decision. Check out the video for all the details!

Iv caught specks west of there in lake Maurepas and mouth of the Amite river.. back east of you is Chef Mentuer and Venetian isle. On a falling tide those cuts are loaded.
    Specks, flounder and reds.
Due north of that is pearl River. Loaded with 5/6 pound black bass..

Good stuff man. The lake has been super clean lately but the clean green water y’all had looked like the best I’ve seen this year.

Back in the 80's I use to catch tons of fish there, from stripped bass to trout, reds, drum, sheepshead, etc. The dredge boats were just a mile away and never hurt the fishing. My favorite was powerline #110

Love the out of the ordinary content MM, you need to check out Tommy Vidrine's action lately, he moved from Grand Isle after Ida and he's been smashing huge trout on the Mississippi coast near the shore with baby croakers

I am born and raised down there on north and south pass shrimp fish crab and hunt all over the lake but the northwestern side is home I remember sitting on the wharf and catching 14”-16” specks right before Katrina getting the camp buttoned up but as a kid in the 70’s and 80’s we could do that any day and 10-20+ lb reds and Flounder you had to fold to put in a 48qt Ice chest

i’ve been fishing the structures for years I remember we used to catch redfish, drum and specs in the channel and occasionally at the train bridge in Manchac they’ve always produced it’s just hit and miss and you’d be surprise how far you’ve gone before you realize you’re miles away from where you started and you know how that lake can get in about a five minute span when the wind whips up

I’ve always wanted to try this, my buddies dad used to fish there a long time ago and hammer the fish there is a slope or ledge in between 2 of the platforms that fish stack up on.

Grew up in Kenner and not that many years ago, wore out fine reds(22-25 in brutes)all on Zoom Fluke Baby Bass, tipped the tails with Chartreuse Spike It and trust me,dat dye made HUGE difference.Used to routinely fish SSide this time of year, especially with slight S winds.Yep,NOW gonna have folks plying the PowerLines,no big deal and plenty of Independent Reefs out there plus Causeway gotta lotta fine reds, bet specks make their presence known in Fall, especially with the clarity and quality of Lake P now vs few months ago when the algal bloom was HORRENDOUS!!!

Yep,those structures will most definitely hold specks just not as many specks as reds. One year, fishing very close to structures close to Williams Blvd,in yak at that, had what I thought to be red # 6 so I lazily set hook watched 3 lb speck surface and spit Zoom Fluke,Baby Bass, right back at me. Bet specks gonna show up out there this Fall.

Got plenty of fine and feisty reds at N Side of Causeway and I actually grew up in Kenner(KennaBrau)and we used to wear out the black drum fishing the numerous PowerLine Pilings, actually one year younger son and I,both Jesuit High grads, were on leader board of the Annual Jesuit Rodeo, using Fin-S soft plastics, launched yaks outta Williams Blvd Launch(think it will be operational real soon)Have tons of stories, including pig specks caught real close to Williams Blvd Launch.Took grandson just yesterday to N end of Causeway, water gorgeous, grandson managed to catch, via small-mesh minnow net, bunch of fine glass minnows.Guess what gonna happen next-yep bet ya bottom dollar gonna be folks plying the PowerLine Pilings and we saw ZERO boats at the Causeway, had two tanks break off 17lb Fluro, finally landed two brute reds and caught puppy drum and few croakers. The Pilings closer to Parish Line Canal should be loaded up as well and water on NShore more than gorgeous.I have a funny feeling my first two tanks were sharks as folks have reported plenty of sharks in good ole Lake P.Those Pilings are independent reefs and one year nabbed 5 in no time, texted Wifey, and this gonna sound incredulous, but red #6 had NO bottom jaw and I caught another 4,releasing them all, other than the first five I boxed. The reds would attack the hooked red, presumably to try to dislodge the soft plastic from the hooked red.Nice trip, got reds MUCH closer to my home than where yall were and it looks like this gonna be incredible run of reds ALL along structures in Lake P.Yesterday we lost two unidentified beasts and boxed two fine reds and one ended on grill last night-bigger one had tons of digested finfish in belly, other surprisingly had tons of crab parts in belly and both were caught in about 5 yard radius of certain set of Causeway pilings.Got a feeling "World Series"Speck run gonna materialize this Fall!!Congrats-nice trip and ole Lake P looks prime, finally!!!
