What I always notice about Joe is that he's great at having a conversation that's about facts, things he read and has a direct answer for. But when it comes to a spiritual or less tangible conversation he seems like he just grasping at straws for input. For a man whose taken the psychedelics he has it always amazes me he never seems like a natural in the conversation unless it's about specifically explaining the drug. I was really bummed out by this episode because I figured the two of them together would be enlightening. Instead it's like listening to two men's manifestos combined in one.
People look at a conversation as a competition because ultimately a conversation such as this is open ended so that topics can arise naturally and when they arise they are talked down and built up and then passed on or the conversation grows off of it. Conversation can be an art form and when two or more people get together and converse they put on their dancing shoes and and try to tell it as it is. The other person will either agree or disagree. Lyricists play with words all the time, even when we're not trying. It can b really annoying when u want to shut it off but also grateful for it when u want to create.
I know that a lot of comics think of puns as a lower form of comedy. They usually just don’t find them funny. I think that’s really all there is to it. Imagine being a comedian where you only hang out with the funniest joke crafters in the world. People who use words that sound like other words in a sentence that otherwise wouldn’t be funny just wouldn’t make you laugh like the rest of the stuff you hear. To the average person, a pun might be humorous. But, to a comedy store comic, there’s just no way it gets a laugh.

Brant definitely might’ve contributed a lot more behind the scenes, so it’s unfair of me to not give him credit. However, Josh and Garcia were the main stage, leaning more towards Josh. Also Brant and Garcia were hardly trying to “reform” Kyuss. They already knew that Josh wouldn’t join them in their mission, and Brant didn’t like Reeder as a person. Kyuss wasn’t coming back. To my speculation, they wanted to capitalize on the buzz Kyuss had created by being such a monumental but short act. Josh knew that Kyuss wasn’t going to be able to be brought back without it being tainted. He probably didn’t want that as part of their legacy. Now since Josh owned the rights to the Kyuss name, and Garcia/Brant continued to use the name to tour, he striked them. If you read up on it, apparently Josh and Reeder (other member of the copyright claim) had already tried to reason with Kyuss Lives! to no avail. I’m sorry man but I’ve never been able to see how Josh is the huge asshole in this story as I’ve seen so many Kyuss fans claim before. @Brian Jones Or he just ignores them. There were so many comments Joe dismissed that he could've delved into. I think Josh is too cerebral for Joe who's pragmatic.
He reminds me of my buddy from high school. He would say shit like "do you have a Juany Tar?" when asking for a one-hitter. Total goofball shit. I love it.
Gary Tuttle I can only imagine. It has been a very enjoyable watch/listen for me though. It sounds like Josh is having a tough time with the dissolution of his marriage but won’t say it directly out loud. I really hope he’s ok.
Chat? Josh is a monologue type of guy... Whenever joe had a good idea and was trying to develop it, josh would just cut it with "whatever-might-fit-this-topic" ... actually, he wasnt trying to chat at all... and boy, he stutters, A LOT.
Josh is a very artistic dude and Joe just isn’t. Joe is insanely smart but he had a hard time rolling with such an artistic guy. Josh has a huge personality.
30:35 The face you make when someone callously name-drops a dear friend of yours that tragically took his own life, and who you miss terribly. R.I.P. Anthony Bourdain.
See, here's the thing about why Joe is awkward in this interview: 1) many comedians don't like when a non comedian is funnier than they are, and 2) they especially seem to dislike one liners, believing for some reason that they are hacky. I don't think Joe missed the jokes, I think he just didn't acknowledge them. The problem is, Joe seemed to forget that Josh is not a professional comedian, and he probably shouldn't have held those prejudices at all, in this case. This may have also been a case of one alpha encountering another he couldn't quite contend with, which is weird because Josh didn't give off any "we're competing right now" vibes. Quite a fail on Joe's part.
Agreed peachmelba1000 - Joe only laughs at comedians who are high ranking like Bill Burr or Joey Diaz... almost as if he categorizes in his head what is funny...
This guy is out of left field fascinating and hilarious at the same time. He's the most engaged guest in a while. Dad jokes get bonus points for now being unique and retro.
Dude. Joe didn’t even laugh when they were talking about dolphins and josh says “well they do it on porpoise.” That’s was absolute gold and joe just downed him.
it is funny, but not groundbreaking and it has been used allot before. If you watched Animal Planet, you have heard the porpoise/purpose pun before. I find Joe fucking hillarious, but I don't laugh at all of his Jokes. Some of them are just clever and some are so clever that I laugh about how clever they are. He also does some that does get past me and cracks me up.
@@RickBobO I always think of the camera incident now too and it feels hypocritical to just give him a pass on that. You don't just come back from kicking a girl in the face... but yeah anyone who knows about it just has to decide for themselves. For me the music is completely ruined.
Why are people bitching about Joe not laughing at Josh's jokes? Joe laughed at a ton of Josh's jokes throughout the episode. Josh laughed at a ton of Joe's. Seemed like a good episode to me.
Honestly I thought Joe and Josh hit off fantastically, I have hardly recognized anywhere that Joe dissed Josh by not reacting to a joke. If anything, I thought Josh talked over Joe a bit, and that Joe handled it very well. Both are legends.
My friend and had the pleasure of meeting Josh after a show at the norva in Richmond around the time of era vulgaris. He is so humble and gentle. Such a stand up guy. Talked with us for a half hour. Never seemed like he was in a hurry.
That's great, I love that Josh mentioned "Mister, Would You Please Help My Pony" :) Always been my favorite Ween song. It's so random & WTF & even tugs on the heart strings, in a way that confuses you as to whether you should cry or laugh, or both, with a bewildered look on your face all the while.
@WIZARD RAPIER they were talking about killer whales and he made the play on words using "porpoise" instead of purpose. They are a cross between a whale and a dolphin, an aquatic mammal.
“You’ll have plenty of time to die all alone” Josh Homme is a truly inspirational musician his guitar riffage is uncanny thank you for all the great music from when I was teen all the way to now a 37 year old. Don’t let the man get you down brother, see you on the other side.
You guys are crazy. Read the comments first and expected Joe to come across as rude and bitter. He laughed tons at Josh's jokes. Lets be honest Josh was cracking jokey comments every sentence you can't expect Joe to just constantly piss himself. He needs to move the conversation on and get some good conversation going.
Yeah, I liked this guest but he was cracking jokes the entire episode. It would go nowhere if Joe laughed the entire episode. I don't expect people to laugh at literally every jokey response I make...
Eh that’s just the jre UA-cam audience. Not enough that we get great, free content consistently, it has to match up exactly with viewers preconceived notions. A lot of the reason I just listen to the audio tbh.

@Brian Jones Or he just ignores them. There were so many comments Joe dismissed that he could've delved into. I think Josh is too cerebral for Joe who's pragmatic.
Jaime was too young to get it.
Anyone get "they did it on porpoise"? And he looked to jamie when joe failed him haha
@@dogwklr I seriously looked around the empty room to check if anyone else caught that hahahah. I thought it was fucking hilarious hahah
Joe might rank as one of Josh's toughest crowds
Josh: "You get tons of fake sleep".
Hahaha! I'm dead
josh homme is not only funnier than 90% of stand up comedians, he comes across as so deep and artistic. what a babe!!!
ya!!!!!!!!
Joe: We've got a little filtration system
Josh: I went to school with Phil Tration... nice guy
He reminds me of my buddy from high school. He would say shit like "do you have a Juany Tar?" when asking for a one-hitter. Total goofball shit. I love it.
"Gary"
- Josh Homme, 2019
Its weird for me listening to this podcast
“DMT”- Joe Rogan 1776-2019
Gary Tuttle I can only imagine. It has been a very enjoyable watch/listen for me though.
It sounds like Josh is having a tough time with the dissolution of his marriage but won’t say it directly out loud. I really hope he’s ok.
ha ha ha
They should do a GARY sticker for the QOTSA merch table
"I wasn't alive.. and I'm ready to admit that" 😂😂😂
This dude should come on again, he's hilarious
Josh is smarter, more thoughtful and funnier than society expects of its rock stars. We don’t deserve him.
+ he's an amazing songwriter.
I do
yeah it surprised me when I read he was in music... I didn't know who he was ....
Let’s just keep him away from the whiskey...
Listen to KYUSS
this guy was one of the best just sit and chat guests ever.
Comes across as extremely genuine
Chat? Josh is a monologue type of guy... Whenever joe had a good idea and was trying to develop it, josh would just cut it with "whatever-might-fit-this-topic" ... actually, he wasnt trying to chat at all... and boy, he stutters, A LOT.
This guy also makes some of the best music ever written. Start at the beginning
cant believe joe didn't list kyuss in the description
CarlosBrabo lmao what? There’s hardly any “monologuing” in this... they are chatting for the entire interview
Josh is a very artistic dude and Joe just isn’t. Joe is insanely smart but he had a hard time rolling with such an artistic guy. Josh has a huge personality.
Joe's cognitive abilities are average
Does anyone reckon joe might of felt intimidated/threatened by him ? 🤔
Reason for not laughing at even one of his jokes.☹️
Arctic badger I think so I would too josh is soo damn cool
Joe Rogan isn't insanely smart
30:35 The face you make when someone callously name-drops a dear friend of yours that tragically took his own life, and who you miss terribly.
R.I.P. Anthony Bourdain.
Joe 'if you're not a comedian, I'm not laughing' Rogan
It’s his short man’s syndrome getting in the way again
Yeah, what the fuck, Joe. Not sure why I'm the only one finding this guy's jokes funny.
Ceejnew yeah totally man, Josh's sense of humour is fucking rad
To be fair his jokes aren’t exactly laugh out loud jokes. More tongue in cheek.
Mateja remember nick swardson? Kind of disproves this little theory
I once saw Josh play the guitar with a cigarette in his mouth, then flicked the cigarette behind his back and went into a guitar solo. Shit was rad
He's a bawss ginger elvis
That shit is rad
I'm thinking about taking up smoking.
You went to a rock show? Cool story.
👏
Or.... Josh isn't funny.
@@paladin_83 He is though. Sure it's a really childish sort of funny, but that what makes it funny.
Agreed peachmelba1000 - Joe only laughs at comedians who are high ranking like Bill Burr or Joey Diaz... almost as if he categorizes in his head what is funny...
@@paladin_83 No, that's not it.
That t-shirt with holes all in it makes me trust this guy.
Speed rips from riding possibly
Horse flies do this to my clothes.
@Donovan Dunnigan I had a shirt with holes in it like that. I loved it, was like my second skin. It finally fell to tatters.
@Donovan Dunnigan and Them Crooked Vultures.
Ripped right where his guitar strap would be
This guy is out of left field fascinating and hilarious at the same time. He's the most engaged guest in a while. Dad jokes get bonus points for now being unique and retro.
Dude. Joe didn’t even laugh when they were talking about dolphins and josh says “well they do it on porpoise.” That’s was absolute gold and joe just downed him.
Joe hates people with witt as he has zero.
That dude is not funny anyone 2ho thinks he is ....is fucking stupid
TheHardway1916 you’re not an intellectual. You haven’t heard enough QOTSA or Kyuss or EODM to be on the same level as us intellectuals. Nerd.
it is funny, but not groundbreaking and it has been used allot before. If you watched Animal Planet, you have heard the porpoise/purpose pun before. I find Joe fucking hillarious, but I don't laugh at all of his Jokes. Some of them are just clever and some are so clever that I laugh about how clever they are. He also does some that does get past me and cracks me up.
Josh “Gary” Homme
The plot thickens
Such an amazing vocalist, guitarist down to earth dude, funny interview
Joe ignored more jokes in this show than he does with Theo Von. Wow.
Joe doesnt have a funny bone in his body (pun intended)
Joe ignores jokes doing stand up as well.
Lol!!!
I listened to this on iTunes, I kept wanting to tell this guy “you’re not a comedian”.. He was trying to hard to impress Joe. And it got annoying.
@@gabrielmajack9837 the only person trying too hard is you in that pathetic profile picture.
I didn't know Josh Homme was such a likeable and funny dude.

@@RickBobO I always think of the camera incident now too and it feels hypocritical to just give him a pass on that. You don't just come back from kicking a girl in the face... but yeah anyone who knows about it just has to decide for themselves. For me the music is completely ruined.
The same year he started playing guitar his parents took him to see George Carlin live, so he's been into comedy for as long as he's been into music.
@@nucleardivide290 You don't think that was handled? Have you heard a peep from that girl?
Why are people bitching about Joe not laughing at Josh's jokes? Joe laughed at a ton of Josh's jokes throughout the episode. Josh laughed at a ton of Joe's. Seemed like a good episode to me.
Bunch of over analytical stoners lol
People like to bitch lol
Joe Rogan had the luxury of interviewing a musical God , i love Josh Homme's music ❤️
Rogan: Isn't she channeling a 1000 year old guy?
Homme: Yeah Gary.
Rogan:
I'm like c'mon nigga, laugh!
Joe and Esther Hicks are both in Phoenix in December 7th!
In this episode, Joe meets the guy he aspires to be and treats him with indifference.
Oh my shit...you fuckin' NAILED IT.
Yup
This is the greatest comment i've ever seen! It's spot on
Maybe not aspires but definitely admires
best comment
Honestly I thought Joe and Josh hit off fantastically, I have hardly recognized anywhere that Joe dissed Josh by not reacting to a joke. If anything, I thought Josh talked over Joe a bit, and that Joe handled it very well. Both are legends.
Easily one of the best guests ever. I wish we had a previous visit to go back and watch too.
This Gary fella has a lot to answer for.
Who is Gary?
the more I learn about that guy the more I don't care for him
joe cooper Gary is his ex wife’s lawyer back in ‘05 and Josh promised him he is gonna regret it one day
FUCK GARY!!!
Also, I secretly love Gary
Gary on Gary crime is not the answer
Joe: “Dolphins commit infanticide”
Josh: “They do it on porpoise”
Joe: ...
Hinchcliffe should come on with Josh and have a pun battle

@@AXharoth Probably not. Seems like it went right over his head.
thats fucking lame dude thats a rosie odonnel joke
Haha lost my shit and Joe nothing.....
"They do it on porpoise." Should have gotten more that was great
It was great. was disappointed Joe just let it sail by
Only the few select comics that joe decides are good are allowed to be funny around him
@WIZARD RAPIER they were talking about killer whales and he made the play on words using "porpoise" instead of purpose. They are a cross between a whale and a dolphin, an aquatic mammal.
"Missouri loves company."
Look into Norm MacDonald

Lol, dont squeeze the shaman. Brilliant Mr. Homme
Get Josh Homme back!!
Exactly
These guys just want the attention of somebody liking their unoriginal comments. This podcast was great.
When someone is naturally funny vs being funny by writing it down and practicing over and over again.

JH is certainly witty.
So true. Learning how to be ‘funny’ is so not funny. Can’t believe Joe fills big venues, I guess his podcast fame helps?
"A crate engine in there should do better on emissions, right?"

Well, "It needs to stop" isn't a benchmark for cleverness either. It's not the joke, it is you who needs to stop assuming that because you personally don't fancy something it's the same way for everyone else.
"It must have been wheely hard" come on Joe get with Josh's dad jokes. Damn man.
Right , but dick n fart jokes are hilarious to Joe 🙄
