I never comment, But I just wanted to say, that whatever the subject of your videos are, I learn something from them. I'm 41. In my life I have built and entire 15,000 sqft skate park many years ago. I turn my garage into a sound proof studio, I'm a Luthier and repair almost every day, and I am also a live sound engineer. My dad passed down so many things, he was and still is an artist doing shows and I run sound for him. But every video I learn something. Keep doing it. There is always something that will carry over into who knows what when you need it.
Thank you for this .. these days …13 years in I often wonder when and if I’ll stop. But still enjoy doing this and comments like this keep me afloat ❤️
@@jimmydiresta Thank You, Much Respect
@@jimmydiresta I see abom is back at his old school shop. The diresta work ethic must be shaming Him
I appreciate that you showed mistakes and the colorful language that comes with the mistake. It helps people realize we’re all human, and things happen even to the most experienced makers.
The fact that Sir Jimmy makes mistakes and shows them in all their glory; all the while highlighting that 'going to school" is the fun part of "making" is the journey. Keep being the standard Jimmy which inspires many... Thanks.
🙏🏼🙏🏼
The fact that you kept the mistake is amazing. It is so difficult to work through a new process. Mad respect brother and thank you for the encouragement/ inspiration!!!🤘🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤙🏽
"when things look nice in the city, people want to destroy them" Says it all for me about urban life and why I moved rural..
You inspired me to learn to sew. I just learned a simple backstitch. I've saved 3 sweaters, 4 t shirts, 5 socks, and 3 pairs of my kids' jammies from the trash.
As a former GT200 owner I can vouch for what a great little scooter it is. 🙂
I appreciate you showing the "real" and entire process, mistakes and learning opportunities included. your willingness to attempt almost anything and learn as you go is a lost art in this day and age. Thanks for keeping that spirit alive!
I had a 2013 lx125 stolen on West 78th street around 2018. Having a scooter in the city changes the math. Covid changed everything, now I need 4 locks and it takes 10 minutes to lock/unlock killing the time saved. I had a sweet corbin seat made so the scoot would fit my shorter wife. Jimmy is right...as usual..can't own anything nice in the city. Good work, thanks Jimmy!😊
While I agree with the idea of nice things in the city.
Being in the city fucking rules, until it doesn’t.
I think you need to make a sleeveless leather jacket from Weaver leather so you can look real BAD on your scooter. Very nice bike Jimmy!
Nyk just suggested it be called the ‘DiVespa’ 😄. Excellent job on the stitching.
Nice French seam,, and a great recovery with that troublesome "back" stitch. Great video and the seat and the seam is beautiful. Thank you.
You are such a good teacher. Mistakes bring understanding. Your quiet explanation, some quiet cursing... an education, even if I never re-cover a Vespa seat. Saw so many Vespas (Wasps, because of their buzz) when I lived in Milano, Italia, way back in the sixties. Kind of always wanted one, never got around to it though.
Thank you! 🙏🏼💪🏼
The sound of your sewing machine is very soothing. Beautiful job on the seat.
You pretty much done it how I was taught and do seats. I like to lay a strip of vinyl or gosgrain ribbon on the back of the french seam so you have 3 stiches holding the seam and not just the first one.
When you split the vinyl seat leave it out in the sun to help it settle back flat. You can use a heat gun but if not careful you can stretch it.
Realy nice. I love to see you doing stuff you didn`t done bevor.
Beautiful seat! And the mechanic did a great job on the mechanical overhaul, but that black paint overspray is criminal!
I like these leather working videos
How fabulous, such beautiful classy Italian lines & harmony with the colors, such a fabulous wasp! I have made many trips to Sicily & it was always fabulous to see the Italian women, elegantly dressed with gold jewelry & shiny sun glasses with the perfume of two stroke filling the air gliding by on Vespa. In 2022 more Vespa were electric & there was competition from electric skate boards & at least that time the elegance & dress of the people seemed a little less. All things change & sadly beauty loses to utility & time pressure. Thank you for sharing!
My Dad sowed everything when I was a lad, and we still have the old singer foot machine. Maybe I should start using it. Still love that music ❤ BTW in Italy writing this comment…. The home of Vespa!
Beautiful leather work Jimmy. That seat just makes that little machine wow. Its too bad people have to be such jerks. Even here in our town. Someone ran into our fence and broke the corner post. Some punk came and tagged our shed with a marker. Not that that is a big deal just another example of disrespect. Really enjoyed the video. It shows even a mistake or two can be hidden. and doesn't destroy the whole project. Great job buddy.
Lol I like how Jimmy curses! He sounds just like a toy duck 😆😂 Nice work as always ☺️
Once again, beautiful craftsmanship.
Super cool tip for seam ripping is using an electric razor. I have the Philips Oneblade and it’s perfect, glides over any fabric without ever cutting into and will also cut surprisingly thick threads.
I had a Honda Spree as a kid and I absolutely loved that thing. It only went about 35 miles an hour but I could ride it for days on one tank of gas.
The seat turned out terrific! Bravo
great job Jimmy! you the man! appreciate the passing of knowledge!
First of all, the end product looks great; like a modern-styled dressage saddle. But more importantly, once again you give us a working example and encouragement for us to stretch ourselves. Also, watching you do this gives me a new found respect for those who do this kind of work for a living. As always, thanks for inspiring us.
Once again demonstrating that you can do anything if you just jump in and get started. This seat looks like it was original to the scooter, really nicely done. I rode a 2000 Yamaha Zuma for several years, but always wanted a Vespa. Sold the scooter when I got my 1990 Miata, providing all the top down wind in my hair I needed. Thanks for sharing!
Seat is lookin' killer. Comfy too. Had no idea about this project!
Hope to see her in action soon. Awesome runaround. And the tweaks n work done in between.
Looks great! Nice job as always and so glad you showed the mistakes! I thought I was the only one that screws up! Love ya Jimmy.
I love the voice overs you do
I just did this on my quad. T50 would not penetrate the plastic. 3/8 crown staple was 18 gauge compared to the 22 gauge T50. The 3/8 crown fit in my Milwaukee M12 stapler and worked great.
Might as well have a screen door there hehe. Stay warm. You have a great workshop btw
Really enjoyed the mix of voiceover and "live" narration while you worked through all the challenges.
Looks good. Love Vespas.
The two tone looks so so nice. Nice work man!
Nice work man! I’ve made the same mistake sewing over material while going around tough corners, we all learn by making mistakes. I have a 1950’s Singer 111 compound feed that I use for leather, the machine has no reverse. When sewing pretty leather like that, I would never back tack to lock the stitch, I undo the last stitch from the top side of the work, then tie a knot on the bottom side of the seam, the stitch will never come out. Again, you do beautiful work!
9:55 Thank you for adding this little insight. "I don't even know if this is possible I've never done it."
I have so many people ask me, "how do you know how to do all these things?"
I don't know! Half the time I don't even know if the thing I'm trying is possible. You can't know how to do something before having done it, that's ridiculous! Don't be afraid to fail. Just try things! Also take a look at my pile of failed ideas. My mountain of triumph.
I don't know why scooters are not more popular in the US. A great way for getting around on the cheap and fun at the same time. I had motorcycles but hated to push them out for around town trips. I have a Burgman now and love it as I use it all the time.
Great job on the seat, Bro.
It's nice that you also show the mistakes you've made. Only those who do nothing make no mistakes. Small imperfections do not spoil the satisfaction with your work. 👍
man Jimmy, you are a wealth of knowledge and a pleasure to watch. I love how you aren't scared to try something and just throw yourself into it and figure it out.
Ottimo lavoro su vespa. Italiy , Genova. Liguria. Complimenti.
Jimmy,
I don’t have a Vespa and I don’t plan to work with leather, but this was a great video! Thanks!
I love that Weaver machine!
The Village Zipper is alive again. Great leather work Jimmy. I don’t know if I have the patience to do that. That mistake would’ve made me walk away but pushed through doing something you didn’t know how to do just to learn. A habit I need to adapt. Who knows what you can do when you knuckle down and do it. I remember your late night runs to salvage something you’d create down in the old shop, especially zipping over the Williamsburg.😊
Keep it up with the new videos format
Amo la VESPA, aprendí a conducir motos con una de mi papa modelo 1962 y siempre fue una deuda pendiente no poder tener una nuevamente, hermoso proyecto. Saludos Jimmy
I love your vibes so much Jimmy. The warm shop with wood walls, the tools, the trial & errors, I can even smell the fresh leather from here in France ;-) You are living the dream !
Great work, Jimmy! Damn! I need a Vespa now, too😂😂😂
That came out great, appreciate you showing all the "going to school" learnings.
The way the color of the amazing leatherwork matches the rattle can overspray is what I love about this channel! 😀
Spring will be here soon enough! Hope we can see it go around the gocart track.
I want to see you make a side car for the vespa. That would be sick
What talent and inspiration, Thank you for what you do.
My fear of doing stitches like that would be catching the loose material and sewing it to the back like you did.... And making something only to have it fall apart instantly. 😂😂
Jimmy! You are the best, brother!
I hope you have miles of fun.
I really like the last few videos. The change up from the voice over for the whole video is a nice touch. Keep up the good work!
That's a beautiful seat!
Hello mister Jimmy beautifully restored well done
I remember when my uncle used to take me for a ride on his Vespa, when I was a little boy back in Italy, and this machine brings me back many years of nostalgia. To think that some thoughtless person would deliberately/your seat makes me sick to my stomach. You’re such a skilled artist and I’m sure you will replicate the seat I Am Present Watching You work your magic I am a long time subscriber of your channel and look forward to your videos very much
❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼
I've got a 2006 Aprilia Scarabeo 500 that I had the seat recovered on about 10 years ago. I would have tried to do it myself, but it would have cost me much more to buy the equipment to do the work than I paid to have it done professionally. Your Vespa is really nice! I wish I could find a nice one like that. I'd replace my Aprilia in a heartbeat! It's great for road trips, but it's rough to ride in town because of the size and weight. I'd much rather have a smaller scooter for urban/suburban riding.
Great project and one you will enjoy using for the live of your Vespa. You have inspired me for many years and your video of sewing leather onto your jeans started me on the path to industrial sewing machines. Thank you for everything.
Thank you brother 💪🏼💪🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
This was rad man. Really love the audible tips and tricks along the way. The wife says hello and that is the best color Vespa ever made. 👍👍
Excellent work ! Great looking seat cover
Great looking seat cover
MASTER,master craftsman!!
Love the new format! It’s great to hear you talk about the project as it’s happening.
I love the color of the vespa and the combo of that color with the two toned seat. awesome.
Outstanding job on redoing that seat. Scooter looks great also. Some people just don't like others having nice stuff.
lol @ 13:35ish. sometimes going to school on the first one really sucks. However, I have learned from you Jimmy to embrace these fubars as they're key to a successful endeavor/project. thank you so much for sharing your actual educational experiences with the rest of us.
Turned out great Jimmy! 😃👍🏼👊🏼
Nice job. That looks like a great sewing machine.
Love to see more leather projects and enjoying the ambitious projects that Jimmy is going to school on ;)
That came out fantastic. Well done!
Nice job man!!!! I am a Vespa owner too! I would love to see a pair of removable metal side cases on this scooter, for tools and staff. Greetings from Greece!!!
Nicely done. The choice on leather colors is a nice compliment. To the paint an diamond plate accents. Be fun to see you make a small set of saddlebags for it. In the same leather colors as the seat.
Thank you Jimmy! Looks great.
Of all the videos you’ve made, watching this has been is my favourite. Thanks :)
Fantastic work, I love that colour combo 🔥
Have you thought about doing two tone totes ? These particular colours would look awesome, maybe a feature stripe and matching handles.
I’m just trying to complicate things for you 😄
Great Job Jimmy, Taylor should be proud of your leather work!
Next time you make a leather covered seat? Skive the edges around where you intend to sew the two leathers together so the seam lays flat.
The sewing struggle is real. Source: 15 years of making custom wheelchair seats & backs. Great video Jimmy!
Greetings from Greece ! That was a great as always makers video !
Another fine video, tanks Jimmy.
Another awesome derestaration Jimmy
Fantastic jimmy🙌.. I used to have an old Vespa px125 here in the UK.. i didn’t want to make my own cover as it looked overwhelming.. i might consider attempting now if i got another , love your talent as always , cheers Rob
This style of explaining and learning by doing makes me feel as if I’m really sitting next to you looking over your shoulder 😂 Cheers
the vespa looks great, brings back memories . Hope to see you riding it.
Looks Amazing!! Great Work !!
Jimmy, first time I heard an MFr from you, which is my go to word when things go wrong. 🤣 Love your leather vids. Thanks!
Beautiful work, Jimmy! I know you said that doing this was new for you, but you couldn't tell by watching it. You looked like an experienced pro!
Great video man, its always cool to see other folks push their abilities and knowledge and see them come out the other side with great success.
this was a rare treat
You’ll get it just keep practicing!
Vespa are the Ferarri of the Scooter world, imo.
Man I really want a sewing machine like that. For future reference, you should cut some notches around curve and to help with alignment
Turned out excellent.
Very Nice Jimmy! 👍❤️
That's really nice Jimmy!
