I honestly didn't think I'd sit through all three of your videos (I was initially looking for tips and tricks of SAI to enhance my own art style). I love your art! Beautiful, gorgeous and simple while providing a great commentary! Thank you so much for all the tips and tricks!
You're very welcome! I am not a huge fan of how the picture cam out on this tutorial. I think the style looks really weird, haha. But I'm glad you like it and found it helpful!
thank you, this helps so much. I think i have a little playing around and experimenting to do before i get the hang of it, but this makes things easier
Yeah you lost me when the shadding started, tried doing the same thing and the brush I used (which I basically copied from your settings) didnt flow at all, the colors were super dark with now subtle shadding and no matter how litghtlhy I stroked each one came out the same, sigh idk what im doing wrong
THIS HELPED A TON THANK YOU! Only a few things I couldn't quite do, but my art looks fabulous with these methods, and I've been wanting to know how to do really good shading for so long, I still gotta practice with shadows, but thank you a ton fro these techniques~!!
Finaly a video that helped me out. I had hoped you would stay a bit longer on the multiply, illuminati etc subject, but i think i understood. Gonna have to try it out later today and see if i understand it.
Maybe one day I should do a whole video about the different layer modes! I just didn't want to spend too much time on one topic, otherwise the video would be too long. If you have a question in particular about them, I can try to answer!
"this is still a very rough shading" while im here trying to digest how quickly this face got more depth than my feelings ever will :D (that was a joke, please dont worry)
Usually I use the same colour, but I lower the density so that only a little bit of the colour actually goes on the canvas. It's almost like using an airbrush, but it tends to have a more textured look, which is why I use this method.
I'm so happy you made this! All three tutorials really helped me with Paint Tool Sai! I think you're an AMAZING artist! (I know this is a weird question, but might I ask what you use to edit and record?)
Thank you so much! I record with OBS, and for this video, I edited with windows movie maker. Now, I edit with adobe premiere elements. Hope this helps!
Haha well by rough I mean I'm not putting much thought into the pose or anatomy or anything like that. And I was rushing it for the sake of the tutorial!
I have a line art tutorial with a mouse, but honestly, I don't think I can make one for colouring. I've never really coloured with a mouse before, unless it was just flat colours using the fill bucket. Sorry! Here's the mouse line art tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/zYQkJSpTpbs/v-deo.html
hey this was awesome and can't wait to try it out.I'm having trouble with my lines though, they don't look like yours. I'm using a pen with my surface pro4 which looks like what your using but my lines are not flowing they are pixilated and all the same width. I have put on the same settings you have in the video and your pervious videos without any luck.I have experimented with all the other options but its not working, can you help please?
Nice tutorial, much appreciated! However, how do you actually blend? I see you're just using the same brush but changing colors. When I try to do this, it doesn't blend smoothly like yours did. Any tips on how to do that a bit more indepthly?
If I'm working with a canvas thats 3000x3000 with a 350 resolution, what size should I shrink it to for online posting without completely murdering the quality?
i don't know if this gonna be replied but can i see your brush advanced setting? because it appears my brush setting is different from yours, when i tried to apply shading, it doesn't work the way you did
Hiya! I'm new to Paint Tool Sai so I found this really helpful! Thank you! I have a question though, how do you take your drawings from Sai and import it to your phone?
Quick question. I just got a drawing tablet and I'm still getting used to it but there's a pretty frustrating problem that I'm having. Whenever I close out paint tool Sai and reopen it (despite how many layers I have) all of my work opens back up under one layer. Is there a way to remedy that problem without having to start all over and recreating my layers?
lot draws make sure your line art layer is separate from your colour layer, and make your colour layer below your line art. this should solve the problem!
I love your tutorials but I have a question to ask you. I`m doing the coloring and when I am doing that. It covers my lineart instead of underlaying it, are you suppose to make the line art overlay the coloring tool you are using or make the lineart overlay??
You're tutorials were really helpful, I'm having a problem where whenever I use the paint bucket tool it goes over all over my line art is there a way you can fix it?
Make sure you set your line work to "selection source", and also set your paint bucket to selection source (under "target"), and the "detection mode" to "transparency (strict)". Then make a layer below your line work, and fill in the colours there. Let me know if this fixes it!
Hi :D I'm a beginner in SAI and I wanted to ask you what brush were you using (was it the "Circular", or the "Fine_Round_2"). Because I think the brushes I have here are the default brushes and it has this texture whenever I make a stroke/line where its like you can see the individual strands when you stroke a brush (I don't know if I make sense with my explanation hahahaha!!!) but I really need help 'cause I suck at this =)))) I'm sorry and thank you :D Have a good day/night ^___^
I was using the regular brush tool! It was called "simple circle". I think you are selected on the bristle or flat brush. Here's a screenshot of the brush I was using (roughly): sta.sh/017mootkuzhl I really like to use the "flat bristle" brush too, it gives a nice painterly feel. It's a technique I recently picked up.
You can set the magic wand tool or the paint bucket tool to selection source. You can also set *layers* to selection source. When you set a layer to selection source, the magic wand or paint bucket (*also* set to selection source) will use that layer to base their selection on (which areas in the line art they select or fill), but you can use the tools in any layer and they will still only base their selection/fill on the selection source layer. It's a way to get your colours separate from the lines while still staying in the lines. It's very hard to explain, haha. I hope this helped! If it's still confusing let me know.
You go to your line work layer, preserve the opacity & then you can only colour on what you've already drawn in the layer, and nothing else. So, you can draw over your line art, but only the line art will be affected by the colour. Just make sure that the only thing in your layer is your line art. **Here's a screenshot of the tool, circled in blue: **sta.sh/01yvartp4wn7** ** The red scribble is the "line art" haha.
1:38 Kurwa A jak ja pomimo że dałem nową warstwę to kurwa koloruje mi to tak jakby było na jednej warstwie gówno jebane jak ktoś wie jak to ogarnąć był bym wdzięczny.
I didn't get the shading method at all... And all the rest after it. Specifically because you don't show or explain the tool and it's setting/properties clearly. For very beginners this isn't very helpful at least not for me.
All three of your SAI tutorials are fantastic, thank you so much for the help.
Thank you so much, I'm happy to help!

I swear, you are like the digital art teacher I've always needed. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
even now, as someone who has been using sai for over 5 years, your process is still really nice to watch!
youre a freekin angel! I would still be so lost without these videos, thank you!
I like the way you add lights and shadows, you make it look so easy haha.
thank you, this helps so much. I think i have a little playing around and experimenting to do before i get the hang of it, but this makes things easier

Same problem here. I don't know what I'm doing wrong either.
Same here. :/
I just cannot draw good enough for this
Have just watched a bunch of your tutorials and just wanted to say thank you!

hi! how do you "blend it out"?
Usually I use the same colour, but I lower the density so that only a little bit of the colour actually goes on the canvas. It's almost like using an airbrush, but it tends to have a more textured look, which is why I use this method.
JelArts ohhh okay, thank you!!

Nikki Despi you can also use blur tool
@@pizza3178 there is no blur tool-- nevermind you're right.

JelArts thank you!!!! ❤❤❤
How do you set the dark background?
just make a new layer and use the paint bucket to make it dark :D
Could you tell me what is the tool you use for coloring? please my english isn't as goog as yours :D.
Brush!
Portuguese?
Thank u thank u thank u🤪
can you explain the selection source better, its really confusing me and i can't get it to work
You can set the magic wand tool or the paint bucket tool to selection source.
How did you colour your lineart? I didn't got it
Are you asking how I filled in the lines, or how I changed the colour of the lines?
How you changed the colour of the lines
You go to your line work layer, preserve the opacity & then you can only colour on what you've already drawn in the layer, and nothing else. So, you can draw over your line art, but only the line art will be affected by the colour. Just make sure that the only thing in your layer is your line art.
