Welcome to the world of Marc Martel. Like he says at his concerts, "we're just a room full of Queen fans enjoying the music." He's the first to tell you he's not Freddie. Love him.

7:45 - Actually, at one point, Roger Taylor DID ask Marc if he ever did any acting, to which Marc said no. I think he's more than content to be a singer. Acting is a bit out of his wheelhouse, as the saying goes.
"Quite scary... You close your eyes and you think it's Freddie onstage, and he actually even looks a little bit like him. And, it's not just the one song. It's every song he sings. When we were rehearsing, in Toronto, they were playing Bohemian Rhapsody and I was sitting down writing, trying to work out the set. And I closed my eyes and suddenly got completely spooked out, 'cause I could've sworn it was Freddie. And you know, you have a very fine ear when you do it all your life and it just is absolutely staggering at times. ... He even does the megaphone effect on 'Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon.' It's great. It's quite a joyous thing to see." - Roger Taylor

OMG I have been waiting and waiting for your reaction to Marc Martel!! Your face when he started singing was priceless 😍 Marc does naturally sound like Freddie but he does put on more to make it sound even more like him when he is singing Queen songs. For example he adds the verbrado at the end just like Freddie did and the way he sings the vouls in words, like the letter 'o', just like Freddie. He has the same jaw and facial structure as Freddie. He was here in Sydney Australia last year and i saw him live, he is AMAZING! Please please please react to him doing another 1 of these 1 take UA-cam videos of him singing Love of My Life while playing the piano, it's absolutely beautiful!!! And Killer Queen too!! Marc has a beautiful natural voice of his own and when singing more like Freddie. BUT...of course there will NEVER be another Freddie! But Marc is the only one that comes even close! I love your channel and i just adore you, you have such a gentleness about you and such a kind heart & I love watching your reactions because i love your unconditional love for all types of music 😍💜😘💜

@renaeb450, Marc has said, in interviews, the ONLY thing he does to sound more like Freddie is to add a BIT of a British accent, to match Freddie's. Other than that, it's ALL naturally Marc's voice.

The guy is superb, he is not trying to be Freddie. He is merely paying tribute to Freddie. People who cannot understand this are idiots.
Marc done much of the vocals on the movie Bohemian Rhapsody.
    Nice review man.
Maybe now JB you might also be ready to take a proper look at The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. There are some mega performances at that gig. Elton John & Axel Rose done a superb duet of Bohemian Rhapsody that day, and G&R also done a set of their own songs earlier in the day.
People need to see these performances for what they are, merely tributes, nothing else. Nobody is trying to replace Freddie.
My personal Fave from the tribute concert is a song which was done by Italian singer Zucherro. 🙂

When Freddie died my mom was super upset. I discovered Marc and i played one of his covers and she was blown away and said he was the closest to Freddie that she had ever heard. You can see he has almost the same bone/jaw structure as Freddy, which is one of the main reasons they sound so similar. He didn't play Freddie but he did provide some vocals for the film, I've seen a couple people use the word imitator in regards to Marc and while imitating Freddie Mercury for a full Queen set and not destroying your voice would be impressive that's not Marc. He just sounds a lot like Freddie and he does so with every song he's sung, be it Queen covers, Pop covers, or original songs that he's written.

Marc Martel did provide some singing vocals for Rami Malek in the "Bohemian Rhapsody" movie, especially in scenes in which Freddie transitions from speaking to singing, in the studio recording or onstage performing or out and about. From a New York Times article: During the performance sequences in “Bohemian Rhapsody,” the movie sometimes employs Mercury’s actual vocals from the Queen archives, but that wasn’t always practical - some scenes demanded a stunt vocal-cord performer. The film’s creators have conceded that the sung vocals in the movie are largely by Mercury and Martel, although they haven’t broken down the specifics of who contributed what; doing so might distract from Malek’s performance. Martel, who received a fleeting “additional vocals” billing, acknowledged that he worked on the movie, but citing his nondisclosure agreement, would not go into detail.

Marc Martel is absolutely an amazing singer and pianist. To answer your question, Marc was used in the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. He did most of the vocals when "Freddie" was singing. The entire vocal score of the movie included Freddie, Marc Martel, and Rami Malek who played the lead. Yes, please listen to more of Marc's singing. Actually, the Bohemian Rhapsody you just reacted to was seen on youtube by Roger Taylor and Brian May. They contacted Marc immediately and hired him to work on the movie vocal score as well as join "Queen Extravaganza". This group tours and performs all Queen music. You can check them out on youtube as well. Hope that info help. Love what you do. Keep going. Much love.

JB I know how you feel. Queen was a big part of my youth. They use words like doppelganger, or Freddie is channeling Marc cause He knows about Marc from above. Or maybe Freddie's spirit sweetened Marc's singing of Queen songs. Your body may perish but your spirit is eternal. Oh yeah.......time for a DNA test. But as Freddie said when I am gone if you play our music please darling don't be boring. Well Marc is not boring. He is bringing classic Queen from the ashes and making it anew especially for the young ones....

His voice is really good & it's amazing that anyone could get close to sounding like Freddie. But as impressive as he is, it's still only an imitation.
Now go back & relisten closely to Freddie singing BoRhap & have your heart pierced & butt kicked all over again.💙And you'll think "Oh yeah. There it is. THAT'S the difference".

    • @odonovan
      @odonovan 4 роки тому +3

@Deborah Cornell, how many 30 year old magnetic master tapes are good enough quality for Dolby Atmos Surround Sound, which is the format used for the BoRhap movie? The answer is very likely NONE. They used a LOT of Marc's voice in the movie, in what's called "vocal layering," to fill out the sound and improve the quality of Freddie's voice, to bring the old tapes up to the level of modern, digital recording. Even when you don't think Marc's voice is in there, it is.

I like your reaction, it's one of the most emotional, it's full of feeling for music, for Queen songs and for Freddie Mercury.
And I also like the covers of Marc Martel because it doesn't upset the original songs.
And when it does, it does it so well that you think "it's right, it's okay." Because in addition to being a good musician, he has something extra on his side: the voice.
Her voice is a gift and, sorry for everyone who sings Queen's songs (including Queen + Lambert), but to hear them sing from "this" voice
makes a poignant effect ( this literally destroys me ua-cam.com/video/PT9MrSnarFk/v-deo.html ).
There will certainly be those who sing them better, those who sing them worse, those who have a more powerful voice, those who have more stage presence, but, in my opinion, this is the best voice for these songs.

As per Brian May, they used his voice for some songs in the movie, overlapping some of Freddie’s voice only in certain songs, but they didn’t want a “replica” of Freddie. Also they needed the acting ability of an actual working actor. Rami is Egyptian decent while Freddie is actual ancient Persian decent; regardless of where he and his parents were born....the ability to understand the roots and background was important....

Remember, Freddie's master tapes are 30+ year old magnetic tapes, which are in NO way suitable for Dolby Atmos Sound, which is what they used for the movie. They used "vocal layering" to add Marc's voice to Freddie's, to bring the vocals up to modern digital quality.

Marc’s singing was used in various parts of Bohemian Rhapsody so he was very much part of the movie. He does an amazing Mercury.
One thing a lot of people say is why Queen doesn’t tour using Marc and why they went with Adam. The reason is they didn’t want to get someone who does Does Freddie. Freddie was Freddie and is the only Freddie. That’s not a dig at Marc’s amazing talent to reproduce Freddie. To them, I think, they would rather have someone different than replace their Freddie.

The reason Marc didn't play Freddie in the movie is very simple. He's not an actor :) He is one HELL of a musician and one of the greatest vocalists in the World and only he and Gary Mullen can mimic Freddie's vocals this flawlessly. Marc even has a striking natural resemblance to him, but they needed a very good actor to portray Freddie, and that worked, obviously, with Rami Malek winning Best Actor at the Academy Awards. But Marc did provide some of Freddie's vocals for the movie, actually. Most of the vocals were Freddie himself from tapes in the past and some were Rami's and the leftovers were Marc's.

JB, you just HAVE to react to Marc Martel doing Freddie's love ballad "Somebody to Love". It's awesome. And as someone else wrote, he's not trying to BE Freddie, he just happened to win the genetic lottery that gave him the ability to sound similar to Freddie (cavities in his head, shape and form of his throat, mouth etc.) and people nagged him to cover Queen before he became famous. When Queen reunited they were looking for a new vocalist and Marc sent in his audition of "Somebody to Love". Queen chose Adam Lambert because they thought Marc sounded too much like Freddie and it wasn't really what they were looking for (they were looking for a unique singer, not someone who sounded like Freddie). Instead they offered him the spot in Queen Extravaganza, an official tribute band created by Queens drummer Roger Taylor which he toured with for a couple of years.
As for the movie, he was actually SINGING some of the material in the movie: "While Malek sang some parts in the film, producers inserted vocal stems
from Queen songs as well as filling in parts with Canadian vocalist Marc Martel, a winner of the Queen Extravaganza Live Tour auditions."
I recommend Marc's version of "Somebody to Love" that he does live with Queen Extravaganza: ua-cam.com/video/bTV1chNHvD4/v-deo.html

It's not like there isn't enough real Freddie material. The real thing whose heart the lyrics came from, the person with the talent, the passion and unique performances. This guy just imitates 🤷🏻‍♀️ no originality. That's what made Freddie Mercury magical.
