I actually think the entire "Wally West murders heroes attending a mental health facility and lays the blame on Booster Gold and Harley Quinn" was a cool story-arc. The Iron-Man being a druglord thing was something caused by a magic that changed the alignment of heroes, so it doesn't really need an explanation beyond that. And Ant Man abuses his wife in pretty much every comic book run he is in beyond the originals, but the PymTron thing really doesn't make sense.

As a guy who liked Hank Pym growing up (and wants to like him now) words cannot describe my frustration with the fact that there was a literal miscommunication and the panel was actually supposed to show him shooing her away. That miscommunication has nothing short of nosedived Hank Pym's longevity as a person people are even allowed to like.

This was during an arc where superheroes and villains had their alignments switched.
The first one with The Flash. Well he was a beloved side kick who took over the mantel after the flash died(Well less died more vanished but thats not important) So he became the main flash for decades and even was seen on tv shows in the early 2000s. Suddenly he vanishes and a black wally west is now wally in the new canon story.... Then they bring back our beloved ginger wally west just to have him KILL his fellow heros who were going to therapy and through that who story he was trying to convince people another hero did it. And like the video said it was never really fixed. Iron man one is more simple, in one story the heros became villians and the villians became heros. Iron man was able to maintain his evil side when everyone was returned to their normal alignments and many heros didn't notice since Tony wasn't tooo different just more extreme and a bastard. At one point he gives daredevil his eyes back since they were the first hero to notice and really it was a bribe to keep daredevil from looking more in but daredevil doesn't and before he goes back to being blind he uses the brief time of sight to see his best friends face. AT the end daredevil betrays tony but tony is like "No" and Erases daredevils mind days back before he got nosy and erased the memories he made when he had sight. Hank.... I honestly have so little idea of that story line. I think hank and ultron end up in the sun and there they merge. They escape the sun from like a solar cloud popping out and return to earth where they're alignment is all over that its more confusing then who this creature really is. Spiderman. Simple, They just made him a sad hero and the writer made this beloved hero a weakling and coward who cant even win against... THE VULTURE!!! you heard me !! the old man with fake wings made spiderman his play thing and spiderman begs the norman for help!!! Not only has blame been shifted to not one but two other villains, not only has everyone who died been brought back to life, not only does have his kids back, but his entire erased history, his wife, his title as The (main) Flash and his place as the star of the Flash book have all been restored. He also has a third child on the way, his son is no longer destined to be a villain and also has his powers back again. He met a future version of his daughter who’s a hero in her own right and his son in the future is in a happy relationship with a time traveler. Meanwhile, Peter has yet to recover from his similar editorial shenanigans and just got the worst setback after getting so close. The Paul stuff is more recent than Wally getting everything back. Wally’s been The Flash again and got all that back for a couple of years now in fact! It just seems like people are more attracted to controversy and completely ignore or forget when good things actually happen, leading to editors pushing more bad stuff to happen again instead because that’s what gets attention these days.

Other heroes by losing control of his powers because of how sad he was and being sent to jail for it. Then in Jail he gets recruited by a god to travel across the dark multiverse and save it where he finds his actuall kids but to save them he sits on the mobius chair and becomes a god of knowledge but loses parts of himself.
@@lucius42sure, I’ll try to abridge it. so after Flashpoint, DC rebooted its whole universe into something called the New 52, which was basically 52 new comic book titles all in a new rebooted continuity to make it easier for new readers to just hop on in. In the continuity before Flashpoint, Wally West was married with two kids. Wally West was basically erased from reality in the New 52 (except they eventually made a new Wally west who was younger and black). He eventually comes back (the original Red head white Wally West) but pretty much no one remembers him since he’s from the previous continuity, so his wife doesn’t know who he is and their kids were basically nonexistent. Then there’s an event called Heroes in Crisis that was suppose to be a safe haven for heroes to get therapy. Wally was overwhelmed by some files, loses control of his powers, and it accidentally kills some people (including one of his oldest friends, Roy Harper). So Wally tries to cover it up by framing Harley Quinn and Booster Gold into thinking the other person committed the murder by repositioning their bodies and even going back in time to get himself from the past to be amongst the dead bodies. It was basically character assassination. But despite all of that….eventually Wally gets his kids back through the power of a thing called the Mobius chair. It was basically a moment for Wally fans that was an apology for all they put the character through for almost a decade. And that’s me STILL leaving out some details. I love comics, but woof. I couldn’t think of a way to abridge it better.
I can imagine a reader from the golden age reading about this stuff and saying "What the heck is all this?!" And I say "I don't know, superheroes... got complicated."

It's even weirder since, as far as I can tell, Cyclops seems mostly justified in the things he was doing *and* didn't even go fullbore "evil" even though he's easily in like the top 3 X-Men members ever who have an excuse to have a mental breakdown that leads to actual villiany after all the bullshit he's been through. (This especially after the _Deadly Genesis_ retcon.)
I mean, in the same arc he nearly killed the entire Avengers in a scheme to show them up in front of the entire world, so Yellowjacket Pym was still kind of a dumpster fire. But that is what made pre-ultronized Pym so interesting. He had to get over the stigma of having become an awful person for a period of time, and the mental health scars he suffered from his own actions. One of my favorite interactions is when Yellowjacket Pym and a recovered Giant Man Pym are pulled into the Future by Kang to stop Immortus from committing multiversal genocide, and Giant Man Pym has to try to keep from destroying Yellowjacket Pym verbally, because that would reveal to Yellowjacket Pym that the Giant Man Pym is from his future, and not his past.

I was basically out when they killed off Superman, it made no sense. I collected them them and read some... BUT both DC and Marvel were trash. They like to see an underdog struggle. After you've succeeded past your mistakes, people will be happy for awhile but eventually you'll get stale because your arc is already complete. There's nothing to make your character interesting anymore. You either get a happy ending and retire or you'll get dragged along other characters' stories as a background player or a mentor, therefore shifting the focus on a newer player.
At least Wally got his family back in the end of it all. No I’m not joking, the fact that he got his kids back is a good thing and the fact that Linda also remembers him is nice

@@MrDj232 oh yeah actually it's that one, in that story iirc tony creates an app that can turn people into "beautiful" versions of themselves, but they have to pay a very expensive subcription for it, basically enslaving society, so daredevil tries to talk him out of it then fight him, but he loses, so tony as payback forces him to use the app, which gives him back his sight, but only temporarily as daredevil refuses to pay for it. It's weird af and I only know it because of some youtube video I stumbled upon, but yeah
@@MrDj232from what I remember Ironman turned evil and made a free app that infected it's users with a virus that allowed the app to change almost anything about the user, like making an ugly person a supermodel over night and increasing their intelligence allowing them to in general vastly improve their lives, and after some time after getting everyone hooked on it he started charging ludicrous prices because they need a constant "update" pretty much daily for the effects to stay and if they didn't they would look even worse than they did before using the app, so people sold everything they could just to stay better. Daredevil noticed that broke in and tried to kidnap Ironman while he was not wearing his armor to get some answers but was taken himself when Tony showed that he had an symbiote ironman suit (the one he wears in this video) that could hide in his own bloodstream, so after performing a reverse kidnapping Ironman tried to bribe Daredevil into joining him by giving him back his sight and basically saying "work for me and you can keep it by using my app" but daredevil said no and was allowed to leave and he then lost his sight after a day.

I actually think the entire "Wally West murders heroes attending a mental health facility and lays the blame on Booster Gold and Harley Quinn" was a cool story-arc.
The Iron-Man being a druglord thing was something caused by a magic that changed the alignment of heroes, so it doesn't really need an explanation beyond that.
And Ant Man abuses his wife in pretty much every comic book run he is in beyond the originals, but the PymTron thing really doesn't make sense.

And this resurrection turned Tony back to his old self, I guess?

This needs to be an entire series. Spider-Man ALONE could be an episode with OMD, clone saga, the current run, etc
You could even have multiple Spider-Men (other versions of Peter, like Noir and 1612; or other Spider-Men like Miguel O'Hara).

@@BiBiren Yeah during Superior Iron Man he cured daredevils blindness temporarily using extremis to try and get him to stop investigate what tony was doing (getting people hooked on extremis a drug that enhances you greatly). This was during an arc where superheroes and villains had their alignments switched.
The first one with The Flash. Well he was a beloved side kick who took over the mantel after the flash died(Well less died more vanished but thats not important) So he became the main flash for decades and even was seen on tv shows in the early 2000s. Suddenly he vanishes and a black wally west is now wally in the new canon story.... Then they bring back our beloved ginger wally west just to have him KILL his fellow heros who were going to therapy and through that who story he was trying to convince people another hero did it. And like the video said it was never really fixed.
Iron man one is more simple, in one story the heros became villians and the villians became heros. Iron man was able to maintain his evil side when everyone was returned to their normal alignments and many heros didn't notice since Tony wasn't tooo different just more extreme and a bastard. At one point he gives daredevil his eyes back since they were the first hero to notice and really it was a bribe to keep daredevil from looking more in but daredevil doesn't and before he goes back to being blind he uses the brief time of sight to see his best friends face. AT the end daredevil betrays tony but tony is like "No" and Erases daredevils mind days back before he got nosy and erased the memories he made when he had sight.
Hank.... I honestly have so little idea of that story line. I think hank and ultron end up in the sun and there they merge. They escape the sun from like a solar cloud popping out and return to earth where they're alignment is all over that its more confusing then who this creature really is.
Spiderman. Simple, They just made him a sad hero and the writer made this beloved hero a weakling and coward who cant even win against... THE VULTURE!!! you heard me !! the old man with fake wings made spiderman his play thing and spiderman begs the norman for help!!! I can't stand this direction and really you need to read it to get the story, its hard to describe just the kind of train wreck it is.

Sadly pretty much inevitable when the person running the asylum's favorite character is The Flash that Wally "replaced" (and said person couldn't be mature about it). But yeah, poor Wally probably has had the worst treatment of any major superhero comic book character period by this point.
He’s doing great right now though. The video’s out of date. Eobard Thawne and Savitar were retconned to be the real reasons those people died. Then they all got resurrected anyway. Now Wally is the main Flash again. He’s the start of the solo Flash series.

That said, your emphasis is on "now". The other two of us used "had" in reference to the decade-plus nadir that Wally had to put before "now" simply because he wasn't Barry. Unless you want to argue his treatment during that time wasn't disrespectful? That would be...an interesting argument. (Also even if the reasons for it happening thankfully were retconned and everyone--you're sure it was *all* of them, right?--who got killed got revived, it still happened both in and out of universe, and that alone is still dumb and gross on multiple levels, especially when it was initially blamed on mental illness. So sadly I wouldn't say this video is out of date at all on that front.)

Not only has blame been shifted to not one but two other villains, not only has everyone who died been brought back to life, not only does have his kids back, but his entire erased history, his wife, his title as The (main) Flash and his place as the star of the Flash book have all been restored. He also has a third child on the way, his son is no longer destined to be a villain and also has his powers back again. He met a future version of his daughter who’s a hero in her own right and his son in the future is in a happy relationship with a time traveler.
Meanwhile, Peter has yet to recover from his similar editorial shenanigans and just got the worst setback after getting so close. The Paul stuff is more recent than Wally getting everything back. Wally’s been The Flash again and got all that back for a couple of years now in fact! It just seems like people are more attracted to controversy and completely ignore or forget when good things actually happen, leading to editors pushing more bad stuff to happen again instead because that’s what gets attention these days.

@@lucius42from what I remember Wally west was pretty much erased from existance for 10 (real life) years then he was brought back but the original flash (Barry) is the only one that remembers him, not even his wife or friends remember him so he got extreamly depressed resulting in him accidentally murdering 3(?) Other heroes by losing control of his powers because of how sad he was and being sent to jail for it.
Then in Jail he gets recruited by a god to travel across the dark multiverse and save it where he finds his actuall kids but to save them he sits on the mobius chair and becomes a god of knowledge but loses parts of himself.
@@lucius42sure, I’ll try to abridge it. so after Flashpoint, DC rebooted its whole universe into something called the New 52, which was basically 52 new comic book titles all in a new rebooted continuity to make it easier for new readers to just hop on in. In the continuity before Flashpoint, Wally West was married with two kids. Wally West was basically erased from reality in the New 52 (except they eventually made a new Wally west who was younger and black). He eventually comes back (the original Red head white Wally West) but pretty much no one remembers him since he’s from the previous continuity, so his wife doesn’t know who he is and their kids were basically nonexistent. Then there’s an event called Heroes in Crisis that was suppose to be a safe haven for heroes to get therapy. Wally was overwhelmed by some files, loses control of his powers, and it accidentally kills some people (including one of his oldest friends, Roy Harper). So Wally tries to cover it up by framing Harley Quinn and Booster Gold into thinking the other person committed the murder by repositioning their bodies and even going back in time to get himself from the past to be amongst the dead bodies. It was basically character assassination. But despite all of that….eventually Wally gets his kids back through the power of a thing called the Mobius chair. It was basically a moment for Wally fans that was an apology for all they put the character through for almost a decade. And that’s me STILL leaving out some details. I love comics, but woof. I couldn’t think of a way to abridge it better.

There are definitely a lot of unnecessary, "Batman is a total dick for no reason and totally stagnates or even regresses as a character" moments that shape been running on loop to this day.
Probably not to the same extent of totally redefining the character or demolishing the existing status quo people liked as some others (at least in canon), but I don't know about fine.

It's even weirder since, as far as I can tell, Cyclops seems mostly justified in the things he was doing *and* didn't even go fullbore "evil" even though he's easily in like the top 3 X-Men members ever who have an excuse to have a mental breakdown that leads to actual villiany after all the bullshit he's been through. I mean, in the same arc he nearly killed the entire Avengers in a scheme to show them up in front of the entire world, so Yellowjacket Pym was still kind of a dumpster fire. But that is what made pre-ultronized Pym so interesting. He had to get over the stigma of having become an awful person for a period of time, and the mental health scars he suffered from his own actions.
One of my favorite interactions is when Yellowjacket Pym and a recovered Giant Man Pym are pulled into the Future by Kang to stop Immortus from committing multiversal genocide, and Giant Man Pym has to try to keep from destroying Yellowjacket Pym verbally, because that would reveal to Yellowjacket Pym that the Giant Man Pym is from his future, and not his past.

@@NatrixNate Spider-man is not broken. Anything that came out in the comics after 1999 should be ignored. Modern Marvel and DC comics don't make sense. I was basically out when they killed off Superman, it made no sense. I collected them them and read some... BUT both DC and Marvel were trash. If it wasn't for the live action stuff taking off they would have died out when most print media did.

The Suffering Artist trope...
They like to see an underdog struggle. After you've succeeded past your mistakes, people will be happy for awhile but eventually you'll get stale because your arc is already complete. There's nothing to make your character interesting anymore. You either get a happy ending and retire or you'll get dragged along other characters' stories as a background player or a mentor, therefore shifting the focus on a newer player.
I think Steve-O, one of the Jackass guys, has this exact problem where people tell him he was funnier when he was an addict.

@@MrDj232 oh yeah actually it's that one, in that story iirc tony creates an app that can turn people into "beautiful" versions of themselves, but they have to pay a very expensive subcription for it, basically enslaving society, so daredevil tries to talk him out of it then fight him, but he loses, so tony as payback forces him to use the app, which gives him back his sight, but only temporarily as daredevil refuses to pay for it.
It's weird af and I only know it because of some youtube video I stumbled upon, but yeah

Ironman turned evil and made a free app that infected it's users with a virus that allowed the app to change almost anything about the user, like making an ugly person a supermodel over night and increasing their intelligence allowing them to in general vastly improve their lives, and after some time after getting everyone hooked on it he started charging ludicrous prices because they need a constant "update" pretty much daily for the effects to stay and if they didn't they would look even worse than they did before using the app, so people sold everything they could just to stay better.
Daredevil noticed that broke in and tried to kidnap Ironman while he was not wearing his armor to get some answers but was taken himself when Tony showed that he had an symbiote ironman suit (the one he wears in this video) that could hide in his own bloodstream, so after performing a reverse kidnapping Ironman tried to bribe Daredevil into joining him by giving him back his sight and basically saying "work for me and you can keep it by using my app" but daredevil said no and was allowed to leave and he then lost his sight after a day.
For those who don't know. This video references Heroes in Crisis, Superior Iron Man, Avengers by Chuck Austen, and the Amazing Spider-Man by Zeb Wells.
