Dawayne Bailey (and Terry Kath) should have been in the top 10 guitarists of all time. Like Terry Kath, Dawayne was never given the recognition he deserved .!!!!
Bill doesn’t get enough credit for being a keyboard player AND having guitar capabilities! He sang on top of that and he was damn good at it! Such a shame the band treated him so poorly.
They, the core 4 originals, didn't want Bill to get too much of the spotlight like Cetera. Their 19th album propelled Bill as an impact player, he sang on all their top 10 hits from that album.
Yeah they didn't want to give him his much deserved credits. But the fact is he sang more Chicago hits than Robert Lamm. Chicago was able to survive and move forward for 3 decades after Terry and Peter left because of Bill Champlin and Jason Scheff. Robert Lamm and the horns people wouldn't just admit it.
How many Chicago fans could name Dawayne Bailey as the lead guitar post Cetera era? Say less than 1%. Cool that Trish and Jason revived the band post 17. This was the best lineup in my 35 years watching them!!
Dawayne Bailey rocks the mid 80s to mid 90s era of Chicago. It's never forgotten. Their trio made of Bill Champlin, Jason Scheff and Dawayne Bailey were a powerful force of music to behold. They brought a different musicality and style, that made Chicago relevant with the times.
Sounding great and Dawayne Bailey kicks ass on this incredible song. I still want to see the whole concert and wish that I saw them in this era with Dawayne, Jason and Bill.

But to have seen them as Chicago Transit Authority & thru the years in the 70s, 80s & 90s, with the various members, my goodness, what a treat. I saw them in 2013 & they were fantastic. Never a Chicago video viewed has failed to thrill. All members are talented in their own right !
This was a great lineup. I seen Chicago about 6 times between 1988 through 1999. When the late 90s hit, they weren't creating any new material and they played the same old songs so I was done.
Chicago’s problems with keeping quality musicians like Champlin, Bailey, etc is the constant traveling. Hey more power to them, as the original members are now in their 70’s. I personally would prefer to hear new original music released rather than the same hits played again & again. But... the money is in the touring. Such a shame
It's really a 2 guitar song anyway and maybe 3. Bill Champlin does it some justice here. Something Terry Kath was known for, riffing for a few minutes to the top of the chart. Dwayne Bailey plays like a spaceman from planet Gibson
I stopped following Chicago when Kath died. Lately, I've been "discovering" their later stuff, and Bailey is quite impressive. Too bad he didn't last with them.
I just read why Dwayne left Chicago and I truly always wondered. Two reasons were given - but mostly read it was that their latest album was shelved so he left the group.

Dawayne Bailey...awesome! Definitely influenced the whole band. It's the only time they all rocked long hair, with the exception of Lee and Robert, when Dawayne was with the band;)
dwayne kicked ass.im not really into much older stuff other then like metallica and maybe a few other bands but chicago is timeless.alot of stuff like ac/dc,ozzy,zeplin,is just so played out but chicago has so much to there music it doesnt get old, even tho my dad was 7 when the band came out they deff have a song for every one.

@@Gem0674 Agreed. The original core members have always been guarded about their spot light. There is a series of Podcast interviews with Champlin on You Tube. There is a segment about his time with Chicago and why he is no longer in the band. The main reason was after touring for decades, the core group was very resistant to change. By change, he means putting classic hits into new arrangements. This is where the core felt threatened.

It is often off notes, and doesn't fit in the song. Fair enough.

It's all about power, ego and jealousy. It's a shame. The horn players want all the power along with Mr. Lamm
