- Hard Habit To Break
Steve Kipner/J. Parker
I guess I thought you'd be here forever
Another illusion I chose to create
You don't know what ya got until it's gone
And I found out just a little too late
I was acting as if you were lucky to have me
Doin' you a favor I hardly knew you were there
But then you were gone and it was all wrong
Had no idea how much I cared
Chorus:
Now being without you
Takes a lot of getting used to
Should learn to live with it
But I don't want to
Living without you
Is all a big mistake
Instead of getting easier
It's the hardest thing to take
I'm addicted to ya babe
You're a hard habit to break
You found someone else you had every reason
You know I can't blame you for runnin' to him
Two people together but living alone
I was spreading my love too thin
After all of these years
I'm still tryin' to shake it
Doin' much better they say that it just takes time
But deep in the night it's an endless flight
I can't get ya out of my mind
Chorus
2nd Chorus:
Being without you
Takes a lot of getting used to
Should learn to live with it
I don't want to
Being without you
Is all a big mistake
Instead of getting any easier
It's the hardest thing to take
I'm addicted to you
You're a hard habit to break

I'm a 63 year old Black woman who was born in 1960 and I have loved Chicago songs since I was a teenager. These White boys have so much soul and their harmony and not to mention their good looks! I still play their music because it takes me back to the best years of my life when the world was still a safe place and when bands actually made GOOD MUSIC! I LOVE CHICAGO SO MUCH ❤! God bless these guys!
Same here. I'm 64 and have always loved Chicago. My mom will be 82 on the 27th this month and she loves Chicago too.
You don't sound black. You sound like someone trying to sound like what they think someone black sounds like. We don't talk like that. Especially at 60+. These guys are classic. Just leave it at that whoever you are
@@TCthaCrisis No-one can "sound black " because you can't hear a text message. Get a clue man 🥴
@TCthaCrisis I can appreciate your opion. It's good to hear other people's perspectives. I might learn something from it.
@@waltersimmons946Thank you ❤
I am a Chicago fan since CTA in 1968. I love the old stuff and the new. The variety and musicianship is second to none.
fell in love with these song this 2022, this reminds me a lot of my bassist father who just recently passed this year from lung cancer. I miss you even more, pa.
The recorded version of this, is probably the best arrangement I HAVE EVER HEARD...OF ANY BAND ....EVER!!!!
ua-cam.com/video/Gtel4PdX6Tc/v-deo.html
Yep!
so you are praising David Foster
Cetera-Champlin is a magical duet.. Champlin-Scheff is a top class duet on their own right too..
In the chorus it sounds like they're singing about Cetera.
I was a casual fan of Chicago for their whole career. But seeing this song done live cemented my undying devotion since.
❤
Timeless gold!!! 2024!!!!
❤
Love this song, even now in '2024
It's such vibe, nostalgic felling I've a fan for 30 years and 2024 now and still find my way to listen this beautiful music of Chicago. 🤙👍💪
❤
Peter Cetera and Bill Champlin 👌 best version.
This live version is more rock.
💯💯👍👍
No backing tracks or fillers in this, amazing.
Still listening to this 2023 and music today can’t Compete against this
Almost as great as the original. This song is platinum! I grew up in Chicagoland and they rocked the ‘70s. They were every Chicagoan’s favorite band. ❤❤❤❤
I never get tired of this ! They really rocked this shit!
❤
One of the best versions.... awesome brass and guitar... mixed very well!!! Love it!!!
Very Good. I try to see them in Vegas offen.. It’s the best..
my favorite Chicago line-up post Kath and cetera
This is probably my 50th or more times listening to this love it more and more each time Chicago is such iconic band ❤
Chicago is a classic band with excellent musicians and singers for over 50 years now.
They've just found a bunch of talentless twerps.
Jason Scheff has been with the band since '86. 30 years. Twice as long as Cetera if you want to go that route. Peter was awesome but he went solo and did very well. Get over the "new" singer.
And now he's gone, too...
jrock2264 just googled it. Omg...
Adam Wilkins
Yeah..... :(
I went to see Chicago and the new guy Jeff Coffey, he has a great voice, but he's a little too high, I don't think anyone can beat cetera
Jennifer Puhl exactly, believe it or not I am only sixteen, I would have loved to grow up then, luckly I hav a very musically educated dad that raised me very well
40+ down thumbs? wtf are these guys thinking? this is some bad ass singing here !
This is what I call MUSIC!!
All these guys are musical maestros, who make this multi-faceted complex song look easy.. Incredible !!!!!!!
This Chicago right here did injustice to a classic
I have been a fan of "Chicago" since my high school years in the early 1970s
Believe it or not I was burned out on peters voice. He does not need to have the same exact voice , I enjoy just as much. Ok haters 😊
I'm with you on that. Loved Cetera, but Jason great in his own right.
This song wasn't written by any member of Chicago. It was written by Steve Kipner and John Lewis Parker. Kipner came to America in 1974 with Liverpool England born musician Peter Beckett and Co wrote a few songs with Beckett on a debut album PLAYER (1977) except this song 👉 Yes, singer Peter Beckett and J.C Crowley wrote BABY COME BACK #1 on Billboard in January 1978 Player also included Ronn Moss on bass , yep the guy that played ex Ridge Forrester on Bold and the Beautiful and drummer John Frieson. Kipner was not in the band.
Such a great data, thanks so much
@@lucienpadillaalvarez4778 👍 🎸 🎸 🥁 🎹 🎹 🎷 🎷 🎤 🎙 🎤
Saw them in 1992 at Notre Dame Joyce Center... loved it... my first and only concert in my life..
singing while doing bass line(not ordinary bass line,a lot of progression happening there) is one of his perks.i salute him grest job 🙂
I will love this band forever.
2019 whos still listening?
It's a great song.
me
fools like us
me too
2020
amazing performance jason is great and bill too
Classic Chicago brass from 4:20 on - pickup on the trombone, sax and trumpet - as good as it gets.
Rockin' symphonic brass. Jimmy Pankow, baby!
Awesome duo,I loved it♥️.Can easily hear how their vocals warmed up as they got deeper in the song. All the members chimed in beautifully. They knocked it out the park!.
And poured soul into this...
This is the best
Hard habit to break. Awesome with The Chicago Band
❤
Simply beautiful the voices amazing
The best version of "Hard Habit To Break," and perfect combo from Jason, Bill and Dawayne. It's absolutely extraordinary....
Jason Scheff was pitchy as hell in this performance. Flat.. Not his best.
@@matthewparker6830 He doesn't sound that pitchy to me. Bill sounds a little pitchy, though.
@@matthewparker6830 grow up will ya?
I was in college when this came out and immediately loved it. My college sweetheart and I got in a little trouble for playing it too loud with the dorm room door not completely closed, just a warning, lol.
I agree. Peter's voice is the signature of this song or songs for CHICAGO
Jason Scheff's Voice Great
Im addicted to chicago everytime i used my phone.. Always watching and listening their songs.. I love jason and bill.. I enjoy 1:30.. I love it..
As a fan of Chicago for over 45 years, I still love the original group, but the guys who have come in and kept things going, hats off, you are still an amazing band!!!
Indeed, this was their best lineup, and Jason and Bill was a magical duo on this one.
Chicago, still be my favorite band until the end :)
2020 any one?
Saw Jason in Victoria, TX in 2023. Great show.
ジェイソンと、ビルの歌は最高です‼️😃💕
My favorite band forever.
One of my favorite band of 70s 80s Chicago
vera good version. Love the way jason makes this song "his" song.. not easy to sing.
Love Bill & Jason singing together!❤️
Superb isn't it
@@ellie698 Sad that both are no longer in the band
@@InfamousCrimeLocations .
....
Love this and Jason Scheff is so hot here!
❤
Peter y Dany , Laudir como Robert en Grupo Chicago hicieron una armonía musical con las congas y Guitarras 🎸 y la flauta 🪈 en canción hábito difícil de romper
Grande performance de teclados ❤
This is why I love Chicago. 8 plus members all coming together.
This was amazing this performance from Jason and bill were amazing live such amazing night in history
Best version of this song ever!
ua-cam.com/video/Gtel4PdX6Tc/v-deo.html

YES.. SING BABIES!!! I LOVE YOU!! NC ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤
2020... still listening to this music.
your right, I agree with you 100%. Jason is there to sing the vocals and not to be another cetera.
I really appreciate i can enjoy the one of the greatest band in the world , ,bringing a beautiful memory in my life.
sunday july 28 2020 whos still listnin to this kind of music.im from philippines home of breakup
Awesome Song, Jason had to fill some big shoes stepping in for Peter Cetera, and the addition of Bill Champlin was a stroke of genius. All around great musician. I liked this iteration of the band.
One of the better if not the best band variations- orchestrated and musically dynamic...
Ditto on all counts !!
born at 80's and heard this song growing up...it's timeless....
+Prima Jane Cadatal Mendoza he's a Pretty dude though.... makes me think of the 80's when I had my long hair and looked pretty too!!!
So, many incredibly talented musicians, kept this band alive and kicking ass.
THEY PULL IT OFF!! NICE!
I Love
I love how the flute player kisses the mic, in the beginning.
The mix of vocals on this song is beautiful
Fabulous harmonies.
Sheesh. I didn't know this live version exists. Great job. I was expecting Peter and Bill but the other (new) guy was good! 08/2020
Same
Damn near impossible to hit the notes Cetera abrought to the table. It's unrealistic to expect anyone to be able to sing like they did. It's like journey without Steve Perry just not the same.
Peter Cetera was a member of Chicago since 1967 to 1985. Jason Scheff is the new guy who was a Chicago member since 1985 to 2016. When Peter Cetera left Chicago, he became a solo artist.
Lol the new guy he was in chicago since 86 what's that over 30 years ool
@@joshuavittoriom.garong4254 just like Terry Kath, only there from '67-8 to 1978, ten years. The band played on still into the present and people are STILL moaning about the late TK. He left eons ago. Peter left eons ago.
Dawayne Bailey was phenomenal for this band, who could appear stodgy w/o an injection of something fresh and new. Bill Champlin and Bailey enlivened Chicago during their entire tenure. That cannot be denied.
Jason did admirably well, considering.
Truth is Lamm is a hypocrite, making announcements before tours, 'there will be us only standing in line and singing, no dancing'. Of course that was a shot at Dawayne who had such charisma and magnetism to steal the show with his physicality and showmanship. Yet Robert was fine with ole swivel hips Pankow, dancing, gyrating and hopping across the entire stage like a wanna-be Broadway dancer. I get so tired of listening to the lies and jabs at former band members (Peter, Bill, Dawayne) by Jimmy, Walt and Lamm . Really have little respect for those guys; they fall far short of men of integrity.
That was great performance
Real talent. Amazing band. Classic music .
Pretty song
Bad ass bro..... respect
❤
2024 anyone?
❤
I love Jason his voice is complete.😍😍

Love this song
Was born on 2001, and all my life never thought peter catera grew his hair like this.
So much talent, so little music. Sickly dross beautifully executed.
Chicago gracias por regalarnos esas hermosas baladas .
