Fun fact: Dracule Mihawk became the best swordsman by repeatedly throwing himself down progressively larger flights of stairs, gaining immunity to the swordsman's biggest weakness.
He faced Down D Stairs? Truly he is the strongest. Even Zoro is subconsciously wary of stairs. Remember ennies lobby? They said time to head up the stairs and somehow zoro MISSED them? They were too strong for him to face head on, he needed to confuse them first to even get passed them
I really loved the part where he said "it's mihawking time" and dracule'd all over the place. Truly one of the moments of one piece

Not gonna lie, now I wanna see a short filler arc detailing the daily struggles of Mihawk living alone in an old-ass castle surrounded by baboons.
Plumbing is only one of the many many issues that I’m sure this lifestyle brings.
I love that this theory is basically “What if Yoru was actually Excalibur from Soul Eater?” Which means Mihawk’s purpose is to call people “fool” & elaborately explain why they could never wield Yuro.

I just realized that one of the things I love about your videos is that you acknowledge that these theories are out there and aren't likely to be true. I see a lot of fans pass off theories as absolute truths, and on rare occasion even put down those that don't believe said theories. Anyway great video as always.
Yeah making it as their own headcanon, such as the theory the island strawhat going to go is Elbaf, its start just as a theory and people believe it too much.
I mean I think Elbaf is fairly likely to happen at some point. The main ones that come to mind for me are that Crocodile is Luffy's mom, or that Sabo had been captured/killed after the Reverie and we were getting a Marineford 2.0

You know what? There may be some truth to this. Another person we've seen with those eyes is Cavendish, but only when halfway between his normal and Hakuba personalities. There is a theory that Cavendish's sword is a cursed blade and that is the actual origin of Hakuba. Basically the curse is that when you sleep the sword takes over to go do what swords do best. Which would mean that those eyes are actually the sword Durandal's when it's partially taking over. Honestly, I'm starting to think that "cursed blade" really just means a blade with a stronger personality and will.
Your comment helped me realize that one piece is the only manga series that makes such a big deal out of a straw hat to the point where they have a giant straw hat sealed away from the world.

Random Mihawk theory that started as trolling but made more and more sense: Mihawk is a vampire. He’s always drinking red “wine” and the only reason he cut Zoro off from drinking is that all he had on his island was blood to drink and Zoro would find out 👀 you never know with Oda-san
That would make sense if Mihawk wasn’t in the sun at Baratie and Marineford. Still that would be fun 😅
Has anyone made a theory of a potential connection between Yoru and Mary Geoise yet? Yoru, going by it's shape, seems to be a Kriegsmesser, a type of sword that was particularly popular among mercenaries of the Holy Roman Empire. With Mary Geoise beeing the only holy land we know of, I think there might be a connection. Also the decoration on Yoru's hilt with the pommel slightly resemble the flag of the world goverment. Mihawk having the same eyes as Imu plus his aristocratic mannerisms might also hint at a potential link to the holy land. Just a thought.

You have single handedly made me finally start one piece, I fell asleep watching some anime list one night and woke up to one of your videos around 2am. Luckily it wasn’t some crazy Wano spoiler but hearing about ace/luffy made me stop the video and immediately start the series, I’m only 68 episodes in as of now but I just wanted to say thank you! Hope all is well with you and everyone around you and I look forward to coming back and watching videos after I finish each arc.

Oh, holy hell. You're in for quite a ride. I literally started watching this show almost two decades ago but, as a result of some bad decisions and hijinks, I'm hundreds of episodes behind. It's quite the climb to make. Godspeed.
Just one bit of advice. Don't be afraid to take a nap on top of the skip button during Dressrosa to get past the many flashbacks and birdcage-focused scenes.

If Mihawk was in fact a living sword, I do not think he could express any genetic factor that could be use by Vegapunk to produce a mihawk seraphim clone. How do you extract DNA/lineage factor from a sword?

Mihawk’s backstory is actually one of the most intriguing, honestly. Hailed as the strongest swordsman in the entire One Piece universe is no easy feat, given how many people we’ve seen wield swords. The strongest swordsman to ever exist is another subject entirely. But to be the strongest in anything is a title only Mihawk, Kaido, and Whitebeard held. Mihawk definitely has some really interesting blood running through his veins. He is definitely Yonko level in terms of strength. And he’s honestly right behind or neck and neck with Shanks for me, with how little we know of them, yet still so intrigued by their backstories and true capabilities.
I have another issue with this theory, how can there be seraphim of Mihawk if he is just a projection of the sword Yoru? Does this mean that a will of a sword has DNA?

I recently saw a theory that Ussop will gain a new form of observation haki like how Shaka is the killer of observation haki but Ussop will become the Liar of observation haki making it so that what people see with their haki is incorrect. It fits in with his character and would be funny for Ussop to have such a strong power.
It would be Ironic if Shank's stronger attacks are like Zoro's Ashura.

I think there is 2 souls, a soul of Mihawk, and the the soul of Yoru. That examples Mihawk saying "you must test the blade" and him saying come at me referring "defeat me, and the blade at the same time." Also explains his doubled eye.

The theory I want to see addressed is about the frozen hat. I think Joy Boy is frozen along with his hat and he will be reanimated by blackbeard/moria I think that's why moria is still popping up every now and then.
Now that you mentioned it and towards the end it would be cool to see Zoro use Hawkeye's sword for a special attack. The getsuga tensho of the one piece universe.

This made me think that their first interaction was itself a test that stemmed from Yoru's arrogance. At first, he thought Zoro was not able to beat him point blank so he used the little chode knife. But then he eventually saw the three swords specifically and his insane potential. This is where ANOTHER one of Yoru's "rules" could come into play. What if living objects need to fulfill strict conditions, or whatever ties them to that item will restrict their abilities and who they can bond with? What if shanks losing his arm took him out of that running? All that to say, what if another rule is that only someone who has survived against Yoru in battle can wield him at all, just like the two arms? He may have wanted to cheese the rules a bit to give Zoro a chance, so in case there's any like, condition where they HAVE to follow the rules no matter what, mihawk used Yoru on the last strike of the battle specifically because it would qualify Zoro. Like tagging a boss at the last minute in a video game so you get the loot. If I remember correctly, that's around the same time Mihawk realized that Shanks' arm was gone so now that his number 1 pick for his wielder broke the rule and even if he IS the best bar none he can't wield it so Mihawk/Yoru set his sights on Zoro instead. That's my smooth brain head cannon now at least.

I’d rather think of Mihawk as a mortal man than as a spiritual manifestation. Makes Zoro’s accomplishment by the end more impactful.

Y'know, I've been back to reading the manga, and noticed that in the panel before Zoro finished his final attack against Mihawk in their first duel Mihawk started to sweat a little. Mayhaps Zoro was closer to Mihawk than we initially thought. I mean, the WGS himself had a bead of sweat on his face when Zoro was about to launch his Senzen Sekai, maybe he was forced to change stances unless he had a death wish.
He noticed zoro had kings haki. Killing him now takes away his future fun, he let him live to grow and become stronger.
Very fun theory and not as left field as some might think given the crazy world of OP. Even the Dracula references kinda lean toward this theory having some weight.

Interesting. Maybe it has this form because it was its previous owner (the one with enough haki to make it a black blade), and before that its form would've looked like what Oda drawn. Which means that young Dracule is actually young Previous Owner X bit still in a way the younger actual for of today's Yoru. I still think it is not possible because in order to be in stalemalte against Shanks Mihawk would need Haki and I'm not sure object can muster that x)
But after all maybe it's a sword that ate the human-human fruits model spanish.

The biggest hole I see in this theory is one that it cut itself. If Yoru rejected Shanks for not having two hands to wield it with, by that same logic it would never accept a wielder who uses three-sword style and would only ever wield it in one hand - or worse, in his mouth.
But hey, it's still a better theory than Croco-Mom, so I'm on board.

Do you think that Shanks' sword; Gryphon, is a Black Blade? It doesn't look like it, and if it isn't, this would make Shanks' achievements more impressive as he wasn't using a Black Blade and fully relying on the swords power instead of his own, and he was just using a normal sword. This also wouldn't make sense if Gryphon was a completely normal sword, as Shanks' haki mastery is tremendous. It is extremely likely, as if a normal sword had clashed with Magma, The Worlds' Strongest Black Blade, and clashing with Whitebeard, then his swords would've looked like Zoro's swords after he clashed with only The Worlds Strongest Black Blade.

This is a really interesting theory, but as you were explaining the part where mihawk/yoru allied with buggy, I got distracted thinking again about how mihawk can threaten buggy if he cannot cut him. And then I remembered that line from zoro's teacher that a great swordsman can decide when to cut and NOT to cut anything. So I guess mihawk could just decide to bash buggy to death with a haki infused non cutting edge hahaha

Now I can't stop imagining Zoro getting separated from his swords during a very climatic battle, getting beaten within an inch of his life, and before his opponent can finish him off, Zoro has a flashback to a moment from his training with Mihawk where they talked about swords having their own wills, picking their weilders, etc. and Zoro calls out for Yoru, which out of nowhere flies into his hand, Thor's hammer style. Zoro proceeds to completely destroy his opponent.
Then, if this theory is correct, Mihawk (Now one with Yoru) just exists in Zoro's mind now, like a guiding voice that helps Zoro summon Yoru to his hand as a final trump card for intense battles.
