Michelin made maps that had restaurants on them, they were rated in quality with stars, which over time became the best way to know which where the shite places. Hence Michelin Stars.
Michilen made those maps as a marketing campaign. (You needed a good tire if you wanted to travel and see these great places)

And quite literally off the beaten path because they would choose ones that had the hardest commute on the worst roads. It always made perfect sense to me that the tire company would start publishing a list of great restaurants for you to drive to and that a beer company would be the one to start certifying all the crazy claims we tell each other in the pub.

It makes sense they would START printing them, but the Michelin Star has morphed from a decent meal on a map to one of the most distinguished honors in the restaurant world.

I used to work at a medical transport company. Basically picking people up when they were discharged from the hospital and taking them to retirement homes and nursing facilites. There was a nursing home that had a plaque on the wall that proudly proclaimed they were the recipient of something like the gold standard or gold seal award like 6 times in a row. Looked into the award later, it was one they invented themselves for the sole purpose of awarding it to themselves

If I remember correctly, the whole thing with the Michelin company doing the food reviews was to get more people driving. Since it started back when traveling by car wasn't very common, they started a guide of restaurants and other attractions with ratings to get people to go there so they could sell their tires and such. Also since most if those that had cars are the time were of the upper classes the restaurants in the guide reflected that.
This. If you traveled. you needed new tires more often.
as I recall the star rating was how far you should travel so a 5 star was make the trip, 3 star was go out of your way, 1 star was basically if you had to

The Michelin Guide and star rating was designed initially to sell more tires. It was a way of saying to people with cars "you should drive this far out of your way to go see this or eat here."
1 star meant the place was worthwhile to go to if it was along your route. 2 stars indicate a small detour is worth the trip. And 3 stars, the max, meant it was worth a trip by itself. It was all to sell more tires. Your welcome

Oh gawd I remember water bras. They. Were. AMAZING.
it wasn't actually water in them, though, it was this oily stuff, don't know what exactly it was made from, I just know it was a slightly thicker than water liquid with a slippery, oily consistency (at least, the ones from Frederick's + Victoria's Secret, anyway. Can't speak to any other brands contents) (and the reason why I know what is in them is twofold: my own Frederick's water bra got popped trying to retrieve (and then try to pick up/hold/take indoors) my inside cat that ran out the door. After catching him, all would have been perfectly fine, had a semi truck not pulled up in front of my apartment building and engaged the air brakes, scaring the shit out of my cat, causing him to try and claw his way up my torso and over my shoulder to try and run off/hide somewhere. He rabbit-kicked my chest like crazy, and it popped the bra. I didn't even notice, until my roommate pointed out a big wet spot on my top (which I guess really says something about how durable they were), and as for the VS bra, it belonged to a friend that had a boyfriend who liked to get absolutely sloshing drunk w friends, and one guy dared another to drink what was in the bra, so they cut it open w a pocket knife and the idiot was about to drink the liquid when my friend and I walked in. She freaked out (and not just about her destroyed, semi- expensive water bra), and snatched back the bra and chased the guys out of the house.

Like, actual water bras, not that wierd camelbak ripoff of Evians' (I was constantly told as a child, by an uncle of mine, that Evian is "Naive spelled backwards, and that that is so because Evian is 'French garden hose water'" ) (tho apparently, according to quite a few people I know, it tastes EXACTLY like the tap water in Riverside, California, where I grew up)(not sure if that's an insult to Evian or a compliment to Riverside tap water) (make of that what you will, whilst I stop writing this epic, rambling comment)

Mine was a book called "Brèves de comptoir" (french), which was a compilation of out-of-context quotes from people in bars and pubs, that the author gathered. It was hilarious, puzzling, philosophical, and stupid at the same time, while being just 4 or 5 sentences per page.

One year later:
I do enjoy the content that is produced, its still fire. However i do miss the crazy that was the beginnings of BB. It did get a bit crazy some episodes but that was also the charm of it. Obviously id rather have more episodes of lower quality than nothing at all but it would be nice to have one in 10 be a throwback
