- This is a video shows you Behind The Scenes (BTS) of a professional car video commercial of a Toyota Alphard MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle AKA a Minivan). It describes the detailed BTS from an actual job for Toyota Hong Kong for their local launch (marketing and PR). Join me for a walk through the various stages from planning to shooting.
COVID19: All team members wore masks during the shoot except me only while being filmed for this video. It has been well over 14 days since this shoot and I am happy to report that all team members are COVID-free.

Back after a long hiatus with another photography video, but not a video about photography! ;-)
Damn that was good!! 😍😍
Very informative!! 👍👍
Absolutely best online content about automotive photography... Thank you Michael and can't wait for more. And yes, you're right, it's not about the car ;). First time ever someone on youtube shows something more intelligent than "put a light on a stand and flash it into the car". Can't thank you enough for your tips on lighting cars. Cheers and I hope you'll get rich with your YT channel ;-))
Your feedback is much appreciated. I’m trying to make content that other people aren’t so thanks for acknowledging this.
@@ThePhotographyRebuttal and you're in a very good position to do so, because you're a practicioner and an expert in a field, basically working in a job you're talking about. It's not like, you know, random youtuber with a flash and some fancy gear. Your first video got me hooked and you delivered. Not many true automotive photographers share the knowledge for free on YT. There's not much, if any knowledge about lighting cars and car photography business here for free. That's why you're bringing so much value to me. BTW, as example check out "wanderingdp" channel. Similarly, guy is a working DP and shares knowledge about cinematography, especially lighting in a very useful way, by showing examples from commercials and explaining them (he draws where are the lights any why there). That's why his and your channel are the only two which got me to click the notification bell ;). Maybe this could be inspiration for your next vids. For me BTS stuff with light placing and dealing with reflections is true gold. So, yeah, just wanted to say thanks for bringing value. And I believe the YT algorythm will reward you for that sooner or later.
@@RallyAddict so awesome to hear!! I’m just sharing what I know as I don’t believe keeping “secrets”. Hopefully I can work out a way to make more videos at a faster pace so my channel can grow quicker. It’s just not that easy making my kind of videos. Wish me luck!
@@ThePhotographyRebuttal can't wait for more and hope you won't get bored quick ;D
Amazing work.
Hooray, you're back! 🥳 Great content as always, and this time even about videography. 😍 I would be happy to see more videography content from you, but don't hesitate to keep teaching us more about photography. 😉😁 Thanks for the great content and time you invest in producing these videos. I appreciate that!
Great final cut for the van, and a fabulous insight into the world of car ads and what it takes to get there. But that is one Ugly looking motor!
LOL yeah - its looks not everyone's cup of tea
Ooooh wow! awesome video man!
Thanks Henry!
This was an incredible and informative video. Thank you! (I have watched the Lamborghini video a couple of times!) Just beginning learning photography and have learned so much from your videos!
Thanks for watching and welcome to photography!

Awesome, thank you!
I love your videos💪🏼
Thank you for watching!!
I could really use some tips for finding cars to shoot. I have been in Hong Kong for 6 months and have not had much luck. Thank you!
Are you a hobbyist looking for cars to shoot or a pro looking for work. Very different paths I think.
I worked shooting 'unit stills' all 35mm & 6x7 film w/ a full-on AAA Japanese film crew in Malibu for a Shiseido cosmetics commercial - at the president of Fisher electronics beach estate.
And guess what... the DP had black fabric set up in every shot real close to the subjects. it's called subtractive lighting.. in the sun light it gives subject a black edge, really cool look that was an important part of my vast learning curve over the years of shooting in the LA film & magazine industry .
This was very cool thank you for sharing! Sub'd! 🤘
Thanks for watching !!
Just found your channel and love the content. Are you still planning on continuing to upload or was this the final video? Great stuff!
Very interesting ❤
Glad you think so!
Oh you really like your challenging scenarios! This is great, it shows folks the fraction that goes into a short 15, 30 or 45 TVC. Did you shoot stills on the back end of this?
I didn't shoot stills BTS content, but the actual job also included some stills, one of which is shown in the thumbnail of this video.
@@ThePhotographyRebuttal Yeah I noticed the thumb was looking rather slick and definitely wouldn't have come from the TVC side. Nice project nonetheless. Such gold for new guys entering the field.
Hi Mike, thanks for your content it's really helpful! I've noticed on the video about the Lamborghini shoot it says Ep8. Any ideas where to find the rest as I can't find them on the channel!
Thank you and hopefully this link helps direct you ua-cam.com/video/8HAnB_KS_D8/v-deo.html
Please come back to us 😢
Whats up w/ that sky camera that Simon uses for his car shoots for reflections. do you have any info or link for that type of thing. thanks
I think you're referring to the Gybow
Hi, Mike. I am 13 years old and I'm looking at getting some photoshoots to begin the journey. I use my Instagram to create my portfolio, though I can't seem to get anyone's attention. How would you approach this to get photoshoots with my limited accessibility?
what an ugly car design
