last time I checked the channel is named I Do Cars and not blown up engine taker aparter.... so all car content is good with me or anything you want to post
Thank you for the update. Too many UA-camrs leave their viewers hanging after the first video. Really enjoy watching you work, even when Big Blue doesn’t make an appearance.😀
E90, twin turbo and xdrive would give me reason for second thoughts given my level of experience, but anything manual is very much worth those second thoughts. Someone will be willing to pay rarity money if it's still on the road in a decade
Eric: What a surprise no waterpimp flying into orbit. Nice looking car. Do not hesitate to bring us along to see the work involved in the clutch pedal bushing refurbishment. Watching someone else do under dash against firewall work always a good reminder for me to let someone else do that job.
This is a good format. There are a lot of people that "want" to do this, it is not for the faint of heart. Bad things can and do happen. Your parts inventory and skills derisk a lot of the scary stuff. Good work!
I feel ya on the projects. I’m the original owner of a phenix yellow E46 m3. However, a HUGE branch from neighbors tree just trashed it. 60k miles, I’m in the process of fixing everything. Insurance F ed me because I wouldn’t let them sue my neighbors.
I really like this kind of content. Either saving this car, a Miata, or other models, it's always a pleasure knowing fun car are repair and used instead of making them an compressed cube of metal
Transfer case has own fluid and uses a worm gear to control clutch engagement. Worn out worm gear can make it stop working more than anything else. If the transfer case is out to service, replace worm gear
That's slick, thanks. I'm glad you showed the use of that design strut spring compressor. I may have to replace my front struts in my E39, and am loathe to use the two-piece compressors that I used before. They generally trigger a pucker-factor 15 as you use them. I looked at that design at the old Freight supplier, and it's not priced too badly. I love the older Bimmers, especially manuals. $700 was a steal. Congrat's.
I enjoy these types of videos as much if not more than the engine teardowns. If that's all you did I would become bored with the channel and leave. Please keep making these!
Code out the TPMS for FTM (Flat Tire Monitor), FTM is what they used in Europe in lieu of TPMS which was mandated by the US DOT. FTM uses the wheel speed and steering angle sensors to determine if there is a pressure imbalance. I did this on my 08 E90 since it also had one or all of the TPMS removed when the wheels were swapped. Way easier to deal with than replacing TPMS sensors or batteries, also allows easier wheel swaps between winter and summer tires if needed
Im pretty sure that era of BMWs dont use TPMS sensors to monitor Pressure, they run off ABS wheel speed readings! If one wheel starts spinning consistently higher RPM than the others the computer sees that the rolling diameter of that wheel got a little smaller 😉 Using the scroll knob In the radio under the vehicle/service checks you can reset the Tire pressure monitor pretty easily! (If your wheel speed sensors are working, that is)
Sweet ... sweet ride.. all ways wanted one of these. Said it before and I will say it again. You bring Honor , Honesty and Integrity to all that you do and that is just awesome to see. Best show on any platform. love ya brother
Great video showing people how it is not hard to get a decent car that is a head turner for little money and some free time. Many US youtubers make it their daily work to complain about eurotrash BMW's, working on them is straightforward and there is a ton of info. Please continue showing how you fix up the little gem to perfection.
That's a nice looking car in the coupe format. I see probably 8 sedans for every coupe in Oklahoma. Although I did see a really rare sighting a few weeks ago -- I saw an M3 coupe from the 90s. I was shocked when I got home and Googled the value. My lord those are expensive.
Nice and you got lucky too on your intuition (which is sound by-the-way). It would be interesting to see this car being worked on in the future along with a “total” bill for the work (car + parts) then compare it to blue book of the same that was not rescued. Again, nice work and thank you for another great video. Now back to “Uncle Rodney” and those “piston nuggets” …. Always a crowd pleaser.
Haha, I started watching this video not knowing the year of the car. Showing the underside you mentioned it was from Maine and it had a good amount of rust. Through my eyes sure, I saw rust, but it didn't look to bad, and I guessed it was at most 5 years old.... 17 YEARS OLD!! This car looks PRISTINE underneath, to my eyes!
Defintely a car worth saving. In the end all cars need a little love and attention every now and again. Congrats on at least giving it a second chance in life. I will add that spring compressor isn't as frightening as the ones I've used in the past. Hate using them after seeing what they can do to a brick wall when they let go.
After comparing M539 Restorations to this - you guys are on two different planets. That is NOT a criticism! You bought it cheap and you're trying to keep it cheap. I'm completely onboard with that goal. M539 is trying to make them better than new. Two different planets. I love 'em both.
I enjoyed the video and the new content. While I love teardowns, I also love BMWs and car content overall and would watch the channel for as long as there is a car content going on. Keep up the good work, man. Regards from Bulgaria.
Bro, you just opened up a can of worms. The more you look more work I see. I feel for you. I’m sitting on my couch half naked chilling and you are busting joints with a 2x4.
MOAR project videos please! It’s a fun change of pace to get to watch you put stuff back together instead of taking apart some poor engine. 😁👍 Great video!
I'd like to see any follow up to this car for sure! I don't currently own any BMW, but I did (3 of them) and I do miss working on them, so watching you do so is something I enjoy. 🙂
I'm so jealous you got the nice injectors. I currently need to replace 5 of mine (on an N53) and they're crazy expensive from BMW. Still, would love to see more videos on this car!
Thought you said it was not your primary car, picky, picky, picky! At 700 it's drive it until it stops and figure how much money you saved. I understand fixing shock or anything bent or bad, but that's where I'd draw the line. Good luck😊
You WILL have to remove rear sub frame for the car to anything good in the back, including rear brake hoses closer to subframe. There are two sets of brake hoses in the rear. You will need to drop front sub frame to get to driver side engine mounts. AWD system front diff is blocking it. You can replace the rear sub frame with M3 rear subframe, but you will need to replace the rear toe links with adjustable aftermarket links for M3.
It's a BMW, it's allowed to leak a bit from the pan, as a little treat for itself. In all seriousness, the only real oil leak of concern on N54s is the oil cooler housing leak and the valve covers. Everything else.m. fix because it's a BMW, not because it's gonna be the end of the world.
would be very interested in seeing more about getting this cream puff all fixed up into a reliable automobile. oh and some ideas about maybe tweaking the boost ever so slightly
Make things easy on yourself and code out the TPMS. All you have to do is unplug the module. it’s either going to be in your right side of the back bumper (low cost) or inside your trunk. Then you can use your scan tool to go into KOMBI and change anything RDC to RPA. This will use your ABS sensors instead of the TPMS. Also it would be a really good idea to Walnut blast the car. On another note I know you live up north east but it would be really really cool to see you do a XDrive delete. Like taking out the transfer case and front diff and shafts
That scanner would drive me nuts. I prefer my scanner that gives me a nice list of all the fault codes subdivided by module but all in one list. No having to go into every module individually. Admittedly mine cost 6 times as much as that one. I guess you pay for convenience.
I actually have a Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing (GYTR) ziptie. It came with an ignition switch recall kit. I kept it in the original fancy packaging with the Yamaha barcode and everything as a conversation piece.
One of the first "big" jobs I did on cars was changing front struts, using the spring compressors gave me severe worries because of all the "they can take your head off" stories, but i lived and so does the car so yay!! Also Natick MA is at the edge of the nuke zone in Fallout 4, it's near Boston. That's all I know about it.
here is one for you. I just watched about two hours of people I assume India Or Pakistan, repair broken engine blocks. I've watched a bunch of those videos as UA-cam has pushed them at me. Most of the repairs have very little chance of working for long. I've concluded that they are done either for training or simply for the views.
they feed the "the world is beating us because we don't make anything more in Murica" crowd. stuff like welding new material into cylinder heads might work for a while on a low comp carbed NA diesel truck engine from the 70s but they wouldn't hold the pressure in a modern engine the first time it got WOT at temp
Was that an AGM battery? There were separate choices for AGMs down the left side of the scan tool. IIRC, they have different charge adjustment curves over the lifetime of the battery.
You have yet to post a boring video Eric so whatever content you want to put up is fine by me. I would say you got crazy lucky on that car though!! Great win!
I was praying you'd grab the air hammer and put it in that nice slot on the spindle, almost like its meant to be. good job. every tech watching was like USE THE AIR HAMMER. the 2x4 was funny though. really good buy dude, awesome it has index 12's. theres 1500$ right there.
I like engine tear downs NOT SHOWING OFF YOUR NEWEST JUNK CAR.
Well you’ll just have to wait til Saturday
saturday?
Showing off a " junk car." I don't think you know what showing off means. 😂
I would classify this video as educational but that is just me.
Congrats on the pin of shame!
last time I checked the channel is named I Do Cars and not blown up engine taker aparter.... so all car content is good with me or anything you want to post
Blown up engine taker aparter is kinda catchy though.
For $700 as a "weekend fun" vehicle? Yes, definitely a good buy.
Exactly. Although xDrive isn't nearly as fun as the real deal
Agree 💯
@@Minto107 xdelete can take care of that

Not to mention police seized property auctions

As an E90 owner and as someone who enjoys buying project BMWs
For $700, I would have bought that in a heartbeat.
E90, twin turbo and xdrive would give me reason for second thoughts given my level of experience, but anything manual is very much worth those second thoughts. Someone will be willing to pay rarity money if it's still on the road in a decade
Let's see... He has his own garage with tons of spare parts and the car only cost $700. Sounds like a win-win situation to me
Eric: What a surprise no waterpimp flying into orbit. Nice looking car. Do not hesitate to bring us along to see the work involved in the clutch pedal bushing refurbishment. Watching someone else do under dash against firewall work always a good reminder for me to let someone else do that job.
He's gonna get a new pump, as he says. I can't wait to see that old Pierburg go flying.
Yesssss midweek! I love the teardowns but I like the midweeks even more!
Happy holidays to you and your loves ones Eric! I love any content you put out because you've got knowledge and a great sense of humor!
I like these vids as much or even more than the teardowns.

Hopefully you’ll film some follow up videos on this car. Great content
i just sold my first n54 car a couple months ago and it had 194,000 on the clock! those things run if you take care of em!
As a fellow BMW owner, I love it. Even more so that you brought back a vehicle that was clearly deserving of more road time. Great video as always.

I've seen tons of cheap BMW's on Craigslist lately, and I've just been inspired to look a little harder at them from now on. Thanks, man. ;)
there's good stuff out there, just be really picky and know that the repairs will never end
That car is a bargain and good purchase. Your knowledge is very impressive. Thanks for sharing.
Fixing a car you don't know the issues with is why I watch UA-cam videos about cars being fixed 👍
I like a good mix of both! I actually find myself watching these more than the engine tear downs these days.
All videos you do for me - are good. I have no expectations... you work on cars, have commentary on cars, work on engines... I'll be there.
That’s about right price for a BMW off warranty 😂
Lol 😂

All E9x damper replacements will need OE misc parts, not just swap the damper out. Top hats wear out, the foam inserts, anti noise plastic film, etc.
Very happy to see the index 12s. Earlier versions were... problematic, ask me how I know 😅
Can you imagine being the owner of a used auto parts salvage yard and also in to fixing up cars?? What a dream.
I know you’re an extremely busy person family business but yet you still find time to make us videos ,boy we sure are lucky,
Your spring compressor doesn't look scary as Hell. Only a little scary.

in the future when you scan the car, hit report at the bottom and it will pull every code from every module. that way you dont have to go hunting.
Could you do a video showing the scan tool you use and maybe a glimpse into the website you you get all the wiring data and such from?
Dude, that's a great buy! A chance I'd have taken for sure. Well done senor!
