Welcome to another challenge video! Does the Meatball have the skills to get through, or is this one of the dreaded "impossible" challenges? Well find out as I attempt to complete a Pokemon Emerald Hardcore Nuzlocke with only PSYCHIC TYPES!

Rules of the challenge:
Normal Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. Fainting = Death
2. Can only catch one Pokémon on each Route (Species Clause)
3. Nickname Pokémon
Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
4. No items in battle (held items okay)
5. No leveling past the next gym leader/E4 (at the START of the battle)
6. Play on "Set" battle mode

Just finished and posted this exact challenge on my own channel a few days ago. Congrats, this one is a doozy.
The reason Roxanne's nosepass didn't go for rock Tomb (7:10), is that emerald Ai only goes for a move that drops your speed, if it doesnt outspeed you
This format looks great. If you can find a medium between this and the ones you stream you might just have the perfect format overall. One that I hope can be extended to the franchise Nuzlocke once you decide to resume it. (Honestly my main suggestion is to do one Alola run, a couple other runs, then the next Alola run. Interspersing softens the burnout.)
A little tip for anybody doing a nuzlock in gen 3 and onwards, once you have access to vending machines you basically don't need any other healing items for a great majority of the rest of the game.
Fresh water is basically a super potion that you can get 3 of for the same cost. In rse there is the soda hut below slateport on the beach that you can get soda pops for (again) less than a super potion but again it cotsts less than it.
This is useful for saving money for other important things that need it.

@@MasterCrawford343 it is I banned gyarados as well so I use different encounters and made my own rules for it so it’s not a traditional one but still hard
I'm glad you pivoted to other runs when the franchise Locke grind was leading to burnout. These are some great vids.
The way that whole Synchronize play may have been a little lucky, but it was pretty damn cool.
Kirlia also learns Calm Mind at 21, so it would've learned it regardless of evolving or not. But sometimes we just wanna hang onto the little ones for just a little while longer.
I have to ask, did you forget Staryu was possible, or did you know and not want to use it/hunt for a water stone?

I’m just gonna be the one to say this, but I don’t think he ever intends to finish his Franchise Locke. Don’t get me wrong, for anyone that enjoys his content I fully encourage you to keep watching and supporting the channel, cuz he has released some good content and only stand to get better with support, however this guy at least to me wasn’t known until the Franchise Locke began. If you even search up his stats, his channel boosted in popularity around last September, around the time he released the first franchise locke video. That there is no coincidence. However it’s likely a tactic, as he’s probably afraid he’ll lose viewers and subscribers if he finishes the franchise locke. It’s smart honestly, as this alone has kept me subscribed anticipating the next franchise Locke video, but it’s time to draw a line. I will say that him thinking he could nuzlocke all the games by the release of scarlet and violet, let alone the end of 2022 was a pipe dream, especially when balancing it with whatever commitments are going on in his outside life, but at this point it’s been months since the last release. Burnout is a real thing, and it is important to take care of oneself, but in the real world it’s no excuse to bag on your commitments fully because of burnout. I’m sure I’m not the only who who has thought this.
The concept of a solo type nuzlocke that is weak to the specific game's antagonist I think kept things pretty interesting despite Alakazam and Gardevoir being so op. Another great one. Loved the recent gen 2 run as well

So quick info for ya meatball that I actually learned myself from other poketubers: apparently Roxanne's nose pass will stop going for rock tomb if your stats have been lowered enough that it outspeeds. It's a weird gen 3 AI tying that happens in a lot of important boss/trainer battles
Gotta love the Gardevoir line they super loyal & very strong

The luck you had that none of the Mons in that Maxie Tabitha double battle decided to attack you. Especially the Mighteyena's
Do I miss something, or was the beginning a complete punt? You catch Ralts which has no attacking move, so you have to use Struggle. But why do you use all your Growl PP on any other Pokeman than Ralts? Would have saved the healing, especially cause you level up on it anyways after depleting your Growl PP

It's Kadabra. It's ALWAYS Kadabra. The Abra line is perhaps THE most born lucky line in the franchise. They're just never bad.
Only if the enemy is bad. It's god wet paper defenses, and is easily one-shot by anything that can survive its attack.
Why didn't you use Medicham or Starmie? Both seem like highly baffling omissions, especially since Medicham is one of your few Physical options.
Not sure about Starmie but I don't think you can get Medicham's previous form (can't spell its name) in Emerald at all...
Are chimeco and meditite in the same zone and ChaosM get lucky/unlucky to find chimeco first?
And with Starmie maybe he just forgot it was part psychic because staryu is a pure water pokemon

The nosepass thing is because the AI sees rock tomb as a speed control move so after it's faster than you, it won't use it anymore. In other words: AI be broken yo!

One of the very few times I’m gonna comment about an ad, but for a split second I thought Deathknight said “Hello, Meatballs” and I thought this was a case of “every copy of Raid Shadow Legends ad is personalized”
I didn't have a way to hit dark types for super effective damage. Medicham sitting in the corner being fighting/psychic going "is this guy an idiot?"
Medicham isn’t obtainable in emerald. The only thing he missed was Starmie.
Personally, I prefer this editing format, it's cleaner in my opinion. Finding a way to balance this style with the ones that are streamed would probably provide great results.
in the roxanne fight i think it chose those moves because the ai cheats and knows if a move will hit before it picks it
Just a little advice, you may be able to correct how your in-video sprite looks like (the outline has what I'd assumed are unwanted artifacts) by using an eraser at the pixel level and editing it on a transparent background. Because the editing on this video was of such a quality and fluidity I wanted to help pointing out any potential flaw, since you're on such a pro level!

Hey Meatball, here's something that might make for good content; Fuselocke.
Pokemon Infinite Fusion.
Catch the first two pokemon each route and you must fuse them, that is your valid encounter.
No species clause because you can actually fuse 2 of the same pokemon together and get a result.
NGL the two best Pokemon fangames are Infinite Fusion and Unbound.
Pokemon platinum challenge w/only Darkrai. name urself Tobias, the anime trainer who used only this pokemon to win the 8 gym badges

He probably won’t finish. His channel boosted in popularity through doing the franchiselocke, and it may be a tactic he’s doing purposefully out of fear he’ll lose subs if he finishes it. What I don’t get is he was burning out on Pokémon nuzlockes but continues to post nuzlockes?

Hey Meatball. I have a suggetion in regards to you Nuzlocke challenges: Single-type challenge. Basicly you can only use pokemon that only have 1 type unlike mono-type challenges where you can have the challenge type + another. "What about pokemon that gets another type upon evolution?": I would say they are a no-go but that would be up the player to decide that. I think this challenge would still be as hard/easy as other nuzlockes. I am planning on suggesting this exact same thing to other Nuzlockers

Quick comment for the E4-if you get a setup baton passer with substitute, the first turn of the AI (i.e sand attack) will be avoided

Although you haven’t done a nuzlock of Pokémon who can learn x type moves but aren’t that type ie Pokémon who can learn fire moves but aren’t fire type using only fire moves.

So, let's take a moment to understand the Gen 3 AI and why the second attempt at Nosepass didn't use Rock Tomb. See, Gen 3 AI has this weird quirk where if it has a stat altering move and your Pokemon has a higher stat than their Pokemon does, they will always use the stat altering move.
So if your Pokemon has a higher speed than Roxanne's Nosepass, it will always use Rock Tomb. But once Nosepass outspeeds your Pokemon, it'll use it's moves randomly (with the exception that it won't try to set up Block twice).

Pretty sure you shot yourself in the foot at the beginning. Kirlia learns magical leaf upon evolving and calm mind at “lvl 21 too. Mightve allowed some flexibility with shock wave. Great video! Look forward to watching some more
Kirlia doesn’t learn magical leaf by level up in RSE. It can get Magical Leaf in FRLG

Hey, so I have been trying to beat USUM, but after 5 attempts I mostly wiped at the Water Trial. Anyone got some ideas for some counters to that spooder ? Encounters, that may be worth to reset for ?
Edit: I have a levelcap, no items in battle and no Z-Moves (I am considering to allow Z-Moves for trials only, if I cant come up with a strategy though)

Your only death the entire run was just because you misplayed super hard against Shelly's Carvanha; I guess you forgot it was a dark type when you decided to use confusion, but I don't get why you would use confusion over thunderbolt in the first place, surely you didn't forget the fish pokemon is a water type.
I appreciate the decent editing for the video, but overall the concept wasn't very interesting-- Anyone who's played the game before knows how busted Gardevoir and Alakazam are, so there was never really any tension that you'd lose, or even lose a single pokemon. It was pretty obvious that once you got past roxanne it'd be a deathless run (and it would've been deathless if not for the carvanha misplay) especially since you were using set-up strats with calm mind and baton pass.
There are some great parts though, I particularly loved how you handled the Watson fight, using synchronize to your advantage with cheri berries, stealing his sitrus berry to prevent him from using it AND keeping it for yourself, great stuff. For future nuzlockes, I'd recommend not allowing yourself to use set-up strats-- they are boring to watch, and stuff like the Watson fight makes for much better content.
23:54 ish. If you want my level method, uh I usually do something along the lines of Lvl 5->7->9->12->16 and from there try to keep going up in increments of 4 levels up until my mons hit level 50 and then go to increments of 5, rotating my mons every time they get to my self imposed level cap. Because evenly dividing numbers is based. Sure it'd get in the way of level caps, but sometimes you need something to aim for to stop yourself from steamrolling with one mon when not using gym leader level caps.
