I'm just hoping he picks up one of the two T6 Advanced Light Cruisers (reliant or Clark) in order to get a scaling version of the extra parts so he can go 'yah, no, this is the Miranda of Doom'
I agree, it would be fitting to make it match its name, but we already know shack loved his star trek ships, the miranda is probably high on that list, so he wont make it a mix.
Use shield-drain abilities like the Tachyon to lower shields, then follow up with torpedoes to deal devastating hull damage. It's a great 1-2 punch combo!
I can't see him stopping these videos so long as they do well. And the whole story (at least the fed side) is pretty quintessential Star Trek, through and through.

Unlikely, it didn't last very long the first time around unfortunately because I agree it'd be a great series to watch. But as Hawaiian said this game is best enjoyed with friends and can get boring going at it alone. Not sure how that'll translate to someone who is streaming it though.

You can issue commands to your ground team by clicking on the little icons next to their portraits. You can set them on to passive mode, send them to specific locations, tell them to concentrate fire, or use specific abilities.
I haven't played a MMO in ages and I'm not normally a Star Trek fan but I'm definitely enjoying this playthrough. Keep up the good work Shack and looking forward to new episodes :)
I know the Typhon. Invasion was pretty good. Interestingly, the voice actress who voices your science officer in this game, sounds a LOT like the voice actress they used for the federation computer (in place of barret) in Invasion.
Seeing your reaction to the Cube coming in and the fleet showing up to help was amazing. Love the series, really cool to see someone that loves Star Trek getting to experience all this (and being ok with the jankiness of an 11 year old mmo)

Oh btw, they have changed it since you last played so that "Standard Issue" now levels with you like exclusive items such as the TOS Phaser banks on the TOS Enterprise zen ship. They act as standard spec equipment, fine for story missions but are better then lower level equippment but not better then the higher level items you have access to at any given rank.
Would Majel Barret's "Last time on..." sound clip be usable as an intro, or would that be too strikable? Love the series, got me back into STO *again*.

Some pieces of equipment _will_ have costume unlocks as well. You can enable those by visiting a tailor, found at most social zones including ESD and Starfleet Academy.
last time i played it you had to right click somewhere and could enable the visual of the armor... but those are usually ugly and not very Trek so i'm perfectly fine with them disabling those by default.

He does need to at least get the T6 Miranda. Because being the unlikely doomsday machine of a little ship just fits (seriously, the Reliant is kind of scary, and the Clarke sounds scarier even if I've never gotten ahold of one, let alone the new legendary Miranda)
So about ramming… You can ram, however you need specific abilities to do so. Luckily, one such ability (called, shockingly, Ramming Speed) is unlocked by ALL CAPTAINS at a certain level and upgrades as you get higher. There are also perks and duty officers (things which you select that give passive and active buffs) that give bonuses to RAMMING SPEED. So you can fly in closer to hit them with your sword. ;p The klingon Cleave Ship (the big sword looking ship from Discovery.) has a ramming ability too, so if you like disco, or just want to pilot a flying sword through space, this is another option. Finally, there are a few ways to get "shield scraping." Essentially, this is an ability which allows you to do damage when in contact with another ship. These are in various special pieces of equipment… there are also other random abilities and equipments that activate on ships at close/contact range. So, long story short, ramming is a thing. Just not early on…
i think you can still find some particels on every map, back in the day you could use em for research at memory alpha. you can still scan for em. im sure ;')
On the issue of carriers: There are… a LOT of carriers in this game. However, most of them are, in reality, hybrid ships. Carrier dreadnoughts, carrier escorts, etc. there are a few dedicated carriers (Off the top of my head: the wintersday carrier that came out recently, the klingon vo’quv [spelling?], the federation jupiter and caitan carriers) but, for the most part, the carrier role has been folded into other classes. Carriers have two sub-ship slots and (sometimes) a trait that buffs squadrons, but many other ship classes also have two sub-ship slots. So if you are looking for a carrier, you will be able to find it decently easily…
I don't know if this will get buried, or if the question asked in this video was already answered on stream, but you can control a carrier by the endgame. It's not the Typhoon-class, but the Jupter is still an extremely cool ship.
The first thing you should do with any new character is go to the square where your minimap is. Select the down arrow in the lower right of that set of buttons. Select notifications. DISABLE ALL FLY IN NOTIFICATIONS! And most normal notifications can also be turned off.
The Defiant is scaled to the size in the official DS9 Tech Manual (its size was very inconsistent in the show anyways) Most of the ships in the game are scaled to either on screen sources or behind the scenes info. If there's no real source, it's estimated by how it appeared on screen. Shuttles and other small craft are scaled up however so you can see them easier. Starbases are also scaled up so the amount of players around them don't just block them out of view.
looking at the shots from the Dominion war episodes were the Defiant was next to two Mirandas this scale seems VERY much on point. The Miranda has 2 decks in its Saucer, the Defiant has 2 decks... if it needs to be smaller then only by a little bit. The Defiant is about 60 to 75% of the length of the Miranda's saucer section. Looks about right to me... What throws me off is that i always think the big round thing on top of the Defiant is the Bridge, it is not, it is only a part of that section, while the Miranda next to it has the tiny Bridge that you'd expect of course.

I'd say 'yes, do this' for the most part. The new weapons that come on the ships are auto upgraded with the character level and are fairly decent. (I did a test with my DPS toon and they were effectively as good as MK 13/14 Common.)
Really, the USS. Extra Parts should be a Centaur class because that class of ship is literally made out of spare parts. That is the origin of that class during the dominion war. they cobbled together parts from the excelsior, Miranda and others to make a cheap but effective starship for the dominion war.
It's a shame the authors of the TV series destroyed such interesting concept as the Borg. Or more precisely reduced them to yet-another-generic-enemy. In the beginning, Borg Collective was terrifying, nearly invincible doom lurking in depths of the universe, every encounter with them ended with total destruction (or worse) of whoever had the misfortune to meet them. Resistance is futile.
The unknown is always terrifying at first. As you become familiar with it less so, and if you fight it even less so and faster. If the Borg had remained mysterious and terrifying it would have been a slap in the face of the Federation's capabilities to learn, adapt and grow and adapt to threats and the whole point to exploration in the first place.
I played this for 2 years straight when knead 14. damn those were good times. I was literally just thinking if I should go back into it because I watched the train wreck that is the third season of Discovery, and literally any content is better than that.
The Defiant is roughly the same size as the TOS Constitution. You can see that in the tribble time-travel episode. So compared to the Miranda, I'd say the size is pretty accurate.
The Defiant really isn't the same size as the Connie in the lore, unless you're talking about STO specifically. The game has an issue with ship scaling.
To be fair, scaling would be a nightmare in this game… i mean, the enterprise J and the Space Whale Emissary class are playable, and those two are supposed to be big space chonks… it sucks that it is not perfectly scaled, but it is inevitable to allow things like the Brel BoP and the Scimitar to exist in the same gamespace….
@@Cailus3542 The Defiant is 170 meters long. The TOS constitution-class is 289 meters. The refit extended that to 305 meters. The Miranda is more compact than the Constitution variants. So it's a reasonable size for the Defiant to be roughly the same size as the Miranda model in-game. STO has lots of inaccuracies when it comes to comparative scaling, but the Defiant & Miranda is one of the few cases of relative scale being handled relatively accurately.

i love the ground combat over the space combat
