  • Transmission overheat indication is time for alarm, but let's check things out that it is a true indication of a problem. My video will help guide you to check some key areas of your transmission to determine if there is a true problem or false indication. I have a way to reset the false indication if that is the case.
    Chapter list
    00:00 Intro
    03:17 First things to check under the hood
    04:39 Showing level and color of tranny fluid
    05:24 Here is one other thing to preform before taking it to a shop.

    Sam thank you so much buddy. You made life so much easier in one video than every expert out there working for the parts department & don't even know it or not even getting paid to do so. If you know what I mean. I think these 2005 Jeeps & a lot of the Dodge issues are nothing more than a programed glitches for.those who have more than 40,000 miles on there vehicles. After several thousands of hard earned dollars & the same issues over ,& over again I feel it's just a bad idea during 2005 - 2010 . Who's to say there not programed to give problems. Lol😢

    People like to talk crap about the WK models of Grand Cherokees, but I have the 2006 5.7 Limited like the one in this video and it's been the best money Ive ever spent. 281k miles on the original engine and transmission and transfer case. Of course it's required minor maintenance over the years, but nothing out of the ordinary. Cant comment on the V6 versions, but the Hemi has been great

      Thanks for your comment. Yes, when I saw this alarm come in for the first time, I thought $$$$ transmission trouble. I know the Jeep ECU is a computer and like all computers, they get glitches and give wrong results. I wanted to first know if the fluid was burnt or discolored and also the tranny fluid level, when both were perfect, I just disconnect power to the ECU and power here down and back up, glitch gone. It will come back possible, just do the same checks. It will clear and keep some bad repair guy from ripping you off. This is a problem that people could make a lot of money off of. I hope all will see my video before they take it into a shop. I am so glad it helped you, I feel good.

    • @samowens44
      @samowens44  Рік тому

      @Mike D, Yes you have my solution to this problem for the 2005 through 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7L Quadra Drive II. These years have many problems that are difficult to diagnose. The Tranny Temp problem did not raise it's head until about 2019. Most all of the problems of the Jeep series problems I have through exhaustive research using cameras, taking relays apart and just plain tracing wires. I did not just guess at a solution, I have spent years working with my Jeep. Now for this problem, there are sensors that monitor most aspects of the operation of the Jeep. I have found, over my 78 years of working with computers, telephone central office trouble shooting, and just use of any device with a computer, it will get a glitch, a false sense and trigger a condition. I have found 90 % of these conditions can be solved just by recycling the power. In my video I tell folks to check the color of the tanny fluid to be pink and not brown. Brown indicates there may be heat issues. If it is not brown or dark, the problem may be a false sensor condition to the ECU which monitors all sensors. There are many reasons for false conditions, I will leave it there. Now, I inform my views to check the level of tranny fluid, which is very important for that can cause a overheating problem. I then inform the viewers to look in the forward fuse box and find the black fuse with ears pullers. This is the Storage disconnect for the 2005 Jeep GC. When you store the jeep for long times this disconnects the ECU and other power drain systems. This is not the automatic shutdown (ASD) fuse you said. The Automatic Shutdown (ASD) relay controls the power supplied to the fuel injectors, ignition coil, oxygen sensor heater elements, and other parts of the power module. It does not shut down power to the ECU, I do not know where you got that indication from my video.
      In conclusion, I want to help the folks that do not have a lot of money to spend on shops diagnosing a problem that may not be a problem. If I can help one viewer from being taken by some transmission shop from a new transmission when just recycling the power to the ECU will clear the problem. I feel my solution is within proper merits of first checks before you go to the "Cleaners Shop". Do I get an Amen from all the viewers that have had their problem cleared by my solution. If I am wrong let my views tell me, I need more than one.

    The temperature rise in the automatic transmission is not from the transmission oil. This is a problem in many Grand Cherokee 2005_2010. The problem is in the PCM. I give them that option. I go through check the fluid and level, just in case someone may have a real problem. I try to give them economical solutions and still get them to check for real problems. Thanks you for your comments, they will help folks understand a little more. I do not have an answer for the shifting problem you describe. I think you need to have a transmission place review this problem, I am sure they will have an idea of what it could be. There is a lot of communications between the ECU and the controler of the transmission to tell it when to properly shift. They will have the diagnostics to find the problem. I don't think you can fix this on your own. Good luck.

    What does turning the AC off have to do with the temperature of your transmission oil...?

    • @samowens44
      @samowens44  2 роки тому

      @Ahmed Gannat, thanks for that question. Let me explain. The radiator in most all cars has Transmission coils that run thru the whole radiator along with the coolant fluids in their tubes. This helps cool the transmission of the heat. Now the AC has a separate coil that cools and condenses the fluids in the AC unit. This unit in mounted in front of the Radiator. So when you AC is on, the coils product extra heat that hits the radiator. If there is a problem with the transmission, the AC should be turned off if there is a heat alarm on the transmission. This will just help till you can get it into a shop to get checked out. Hope this helps.

      @jaybrick8973, the Jeep has been plagued with many computer software issues. The best way to handle them is to reset like I show you. Pulling the power to the ECU, computer, is like powering down your computer and letting it restart. It corrects most problems that happen due to this nature. Jeep just has not spent the time or money to redesign the software. Mechanic shops are getting rich resetting the computer with their diagnostic tools. It is a crime. I just fixed my buddies 06 jeep commander that was also stuck in 3rd gear. I had to replace transmission solenoid which u have to remove trans pan and trans valve body in order to do it. There are some videos on here that show u how to do it if needed. U can buy trans solenoid with new pan gasket and filters on Amazon for approximately $230. Buddies jeep now runs great and shift perfect. Took about 3hrs to do but should of taken 2 hrs( it was 20 degrees F outside ) not hard job at all if u have tools which is 8mm plus swivel adapter etc for pan bolts and torx bits for valve body and solenoid removal + plus trans filter has one torx bolt to remove.

      I sold my 2005 Jeep. The fuse I am referring to is a black pull up disconnect. The main thing this does is disconnects power to the ECU. Just disconnect the battery if you have a issue with the fuse. That will clear the problem as well. Folk, if you can not find the fuse I tell you, just disconnect the battery. I think the fuse is much easier. In your owners manual the fus is called “Storage Disconnect “.

This quick fix is if you don't have some of the indications I explain in the preceding 6 min and 15 sec. The overheating problem on your transmission could be real and if you ignore and just do what I tell you in the corrective action, you could cause your transmission to burn up due to a real problem. • @billmonroe8826

    Just because the tranny fluid is brown doesn't necessarily mean it has an overheating problem. All fluid over time turns brown and you need fresh fluid. Most recommend a fluid change every 50,000 miles. Many people never change their fluid and causes many problems. I like how people will mess with stuff, end up erasing the code and then end up at ths shop and they have nothing to go by because you erased it. You may have gotten lucky here but I won't be surprised if the warning comes back!

      The Transmission overheating indication is a big problem with a lot of Jeep Owners. I can tell by the large amount of hits on my video. I create most all my video for the person that has very little knowledge of how to trouble shoot a problem like this. Most have never pulled a dip stick out or know what a correct reading is. I take a long time explaining some of the most basic stuff. I know my audience needs the detail and for experience folks, my video will be long winded sounding. For those folks, just quick run through with the slider to get to the main points you are looking for. I think there are more folks that want and need a lot of the basic details. From the watch time on my video, this is the most watch percentage of all my video. So I am looking at it as a huge success with helping the folks with little knowledge of an automobile.
