I have been considering buying a Kelly Kettle and now I think I am sold on it. The simplest method I can think of to steady up the table is to drill 3 holes in the top, insert some nails, or screws, and position the legs so the nails are in the ends of the legs. Anxiously waiting on the bike/trailer video. I really appreciate the format of your videos and the info presented. Thank you.

Im shocked at how little wood boiled water as fast as it did. Not only is this kettle good gear but perfect for burn bans where you cant have a camp fire. I'm definitely going to modify that table. Its too unstable like it is.Im glad you liked it. Thanks for watching George

I’ve been watching every video now for 4 years. Also went back and watched, repeatedly, ALL your videos since you started. I thought on this one, for some reason, that the older we get, the more comfort we want! Lol and I’ve seen the progression in your videos as well. We care about comfort the older we get and I’m finding that at in my life now as well. You’re a hard working family man who loves making content and interacting with people on here about bush-crafting! Nick is following in your footsteps and as a grown man now he probably has ideas of his own. Continuing the content maybe?? If not, what a great father to learn from about what y’all love. Side note, I love how you ask, the Best camera man in the world, if he’s still getting the shots on the camera! 😂😂😂 He’s well seasoned camera man! And I know you know that. You could have monetized your channel and made a great amount of money off these yet you do it because you love it and not for the love of money. That says a lot brother! Nick it’s a wonderful thing to see a father and son together in a wayward world nowadays. Keep up the good fight as long as y’all can and we’ll keep watching this great content! God bless y’all!

I loved to challenge myself and eat sleep and camp with minimal gear and maximum miser just to prove I could do it. No way now! I am all about comfort. @@Reallybigmonkey1 😂 same story here, Dave. Survival is just just pure misery but you learn that with time. When you're younger it's just a challenge and all fun. I remember when I bought my first books of Tom Brown Jr. I'm in Poland so I ordered them from States at the time and chances are I was the only guy here having those books. Like all of them. And I thought I found the Holly Grail. I just have to go to the woods with a knife and I'll be fine. 😂 😆 Oh, cluelessness. I bet you can imagine how it went. Instead of feasting on 🦌 and🐇 all I could find was 🌲. And that was before all those survival UA-cam industry. Now I'm looking at those poor kids from new generations and I just feel sad for them. I understand they want freedom like I did but... that's why I stand with you 💯 on your minimum kit philosophy.

The first time I saw a Kelly Kettle was visiting my wife's parents up in Labrador. We spent the day out fishing in their boat then headed to shore for a boil up. The Kelly Kettle worked amazing. I like those chairs too but I have to tell you I've been taking a hammock chair into the woods with me these past few months and it has impressed me every single time. It weighs nothing. Can be carried in a pocket and with 15foot straps on each end I haven't found a spot I can't hang it. Great to see you and Nick out having some fun in the woods Dave. Right on!

Awsome Father's Day gift and anytime you get to spend time with your son outdoors is a gift from God! Thanks for the wonderful video, Dave! Just an FYI: If it were me (and it's not of course😉) I would keep it a three legged table, because tripods are always more stable on uneven ground. I would just mark where the legs meet the bottom of the table in the most central location, and add some weld bead in a crescent shape just slightly larger than the diameter of the legs, then cut the legs off at an angle to make them lay flush against the bottom, and locked into the crescent shaped "walls" to keep them from slipping out sideways. Or even a small piece of tubing about 1/2" long slipped over the end of the legs and welded onto the bottom at the angle needed to keep the legs locked into place. Neither option would take up that much more room in the pack, and would greatly enhance the stability. Just a suggestion. Keep up the great adventures with Fun in the Woods!

Great video! On that table, why don't you drill a hole in each corner and use a bungee on each corner and hook them around the legs below the disk. Or something close to that. That should stabilize the table. Or even going to the bottom of the leg and hooking it there. I was given a Kelly Kettle recently from my wife after wanting one for years. I just love that thing!! My favorite thing is seeing those flames shoot out the top. Roast your hot dogs right there. I have the whistling plug. Cool deal. And I love that machete!! This was a fun video!

Super cool of Nick to get you that machete for Father's Day. We have a basecamp Kelly kettle. We've had it for around 15 years and love it. The only downside of it was we have the stainless steel version and the rivets they used were aluminum. So once I got those drilled out and replaced with a stainless ones problem solved and has been going strong ever since. Definitely going to check out local Aldi to see if they have any chairs left. They look really nice and with that material on the base would be great for the beach or other soft places that normal chairs sink in. God bless and stay safe.

I love your sewing skills. My BAG problem is, i got some bags. Put stuff in the bags, forget what is inside the bags. Got to find something, so i got to dig through all the bags to find it. If i pack a back pack its so heavy when done i cant lift it never mind lug it. I began buying ladies clutch bags to put small stuff into. But i think if your patience and skill to make a special bag for all your gear. Im jealouse. I am
72, a woman and should know how to sew a simple bag for gear. But i dont.?
Thinking of buying some of those back pack chairs. Got a smaller car, go gold orosoecting and need all my camping gear. Got to jettison the cots. They take to much room, and i need my high banker. Organization is the huge KEY.

Thanks! for years and years I made gear of all sorts and got sick of looking for bags that fit. I gave hand sewing a try and hated it! I finally broke down and bought a sewing machete and started sewing. I learned by watching youtube videos and by practice. I like using pruning shears and small limb cutters when I'm using a twig stove, helps to keep the pieces from flying everywhere like that. Also a good idea usually to stir after adding water to your French press.

Hi Dave and Nick, Beautiful machete for Father's Day! the table is really neat too. If you could make something to hold the legs to the tabletop, it would be awesome. I haven't been to Aldi's in a while. Sometimes you can find some neat stuff there. I'll have to check and see if they have those chairs over here. The peach coffee sounds good. I like the Kelly Kettle Trekker, not too big like the other sizes I've seen videos on. Awesome. Great video, take care guys. 👍🏻☕

I can see those mini chairs being real handy in more urban areas or places where there aren't many trees. I just cant get over your idea about taking the seats out of old camp chairs and stringing them up in the trees. Those things are very strong with those huge grommets and pack into nothing, perfect in the forest. Its also a good idea to wear a sitting pad on your belt, be it closed cell foam or layers of wool and mylar. You see a lot of soldiers in Ukraine wearing such a sitting pad. Additionally traditional Native Americans wear what appears to be a loin cloth on the outside of their buckskin pants, the back flap is for sitting on and the front flat is for drying your hands. Detach the front flap for all kinds of used, instead of a buckskin loincloth you can basically shove one of your doo rags or a micro fiber towel down the front of your belt.
You might consider polishing that stainless steel table top to a mirror finish. I wonder if you can make your own version of this kettle with threaded pipes. I always pour my coffee back and forth between two cups when i want to cool it faster, the higher and slower you pour the more the air will cool it.

@@Reallybigmonkey1 Thank you for the videos. I have been watching for years now. The green plug is a fairly new thing, the old ones have to be loose or left out like you did in the video. One more Kelly kettle tip... It's easy to burn your hand over the chimney when you lift it off the base. Instead, raise the handle straight out sideways, them hold the handle with both hands (still sideways not over the top) and lift the kettle of the base and set it down. Them you can raise the handle up and pour just like you did in the video without burning your hand on the heat from the stove base coming through the chimney.

The Table = 3 legs are better than 4, I would suggest thread the 3 rods on one end and weld 3 bolts on an angle you like under the table top. OR drill 3 Holes in the tabletop for the rods to stick through. But then you may want to sew a bag for the tabletop to protect the gear in your backpack from the nuts. if youw ent that way. Sturdy AF both ways when done. Happy Father's day, Nice gift Nick.

Way to go NIck! What an awesome Father's Day gift. The table is ingenious, like so much of your DIY kit. The Kelly Kettle has always fascinated me. You used to see them all the time on videos and Amazon. I had totally forgot about them. Some nice looking woods. I hate that all of our National Forest here are pretty much completely devoid of bushcrafting resources, other than fat wood. For some reason, most of the roads to the hardwood areas have been gated and are walk-in only except from 9/1 through 1/1. It really cuts down on any decent place to disperse camp. However, now that I have my new Velotric Summit electric mountain bike I hope to be able to get to some decent areas to camp. I have it decked out with two Ortlieb waterproof panniers, a waterproof trunk, and two waterproof fork bags. I have it completely loaded with my gear and ready to go. Enjoyed the video Dave and Nick....best wishes.

Happy Father’s Day Dave! Great gift there Nick! That’s one beautiful machete! I’ve seen those types of chairs on other channels but now that they’re Dave and Nick approved I’m ready for one. Man that Kelly Kettle turns a twig fire into a blast furnace! Talk about efficient! Dave what if you determined the optimum height of the table, figured the leg spread to reach that height and welded sockets on the tabletop in the corresponding spots? A socket the legs could fit in. It could still be just the tabletop weight holding it together, maybe a clevis pin or a friction fit. Just an idea. Can’t wait for the bike and trailer video!

Thank you Steve and We are glad you liked it. It is incredible how such a small amount of wood will boil water with that kettle. That little plastic ring isnt too heavy so Ill keep it but I love the idea of welded sockets to hold the legs! Thanks for watching Brother Steve

@@Reallybigmonkey1 Yes keep the ring and legs just like you have them. Just add three sockets to fit them. I wish I had your machinist skills!

You need some copper tube winding from the Kelly kettle to the Stanley French press and invent the coffee still. Maybe the Italians beat you to it with their expresso machines. Happy Fathers Day Dave. You are a great son Nick.

Great video has always Dave and it's always fun to see Nick with you. I'll have to look for those chairs at Aldis, we have them in Minnesota. Black Widows in the woods no thank you! When I'm truckin through Florida and George I usually don't even get out of my truck. I love the outdoors but I'm a wimp, no spiders or gators for me LOL. That Kelly Kettle was interesting. I like the stove. I enjoy backpacker woodstoves and I make alot of them out of soup and coffee cans. Its to hot and buggy for me right now to be in the woods too much. Hoping to get out of my canoe in the water soon. I am already looking forward to fall. Anywho great video! Have a great day!🙂

Thanks Marty, Im glad you liked it. People talk about ants and black flies but never realize how many black widow spiders love living in the leaf and pine duff on the forest floor. Its quite shocking! Those chairs are amazingly strong and comfortable. Thanks for watching and you have a great weekend Marty!

Hi Dave and Nick! This is the second time I have seen one of those chairs. I watch a UA-cam guy in the UK that does Motorcycle travel videos, and he uses one with his camp set-up. The Kelly is a cool bit of kit indeed!
