Phil, brother....great experimental video.....hell that is not just for college students, this is for folks cooking ribs in the park on a smokey joe.....real nice......Great video and funny as usual......outstanding!
Thank you Justin. We have to do what we can to be entertaining as well as helpful! You do a great job with both as well my friend! Thanks for watching and for commenting!
I wouldn't miss it. You actually totally inspired my next video. I filmed it on Tuesday and just haven't had a chance to finish editing. I get it up in the next few days. If you get a chance to watch it, I think you'll get a kick out of it.
Phil this was a great experiment... I could definitely do this on the lake fishing. I'm glad your UA-cam subscriber ask this question. in the ribs look perfectly cooked and delicious. TFS
That Smokey Joe was literally one of the best investments I've ever made at $34.99! It is still my go-to for the solo cooking or cooking for two. I will actually be hooking up some chicken wings on that bad boy tonight! Great channel, liked and subscribed... Keep up the great vids my NC brethren!
Mr phil, sorry its been a while since ive been in contact with you and gave some very well deserved props and appreciation. Ive been back on the job again to a new location and just returned home a couple days ago after being gone for 3 months. Thanks for all the great recipes and instructional videos. I liked the idea of showing folks that you dont have to have a big expensive smoker to cook good spare ribs. I feel it potentially reaches more people than usual just because its for all the ones that for whatever reason only have a itty bity grill. And as always i try to make sure and recognize and thank all the retired, active and inactive, and the deployed members of all the branches of our great nation's armed forces. Each and every one of you make daily sacrifices that ensures so much more than just our protection from foreign enemies. You provide and maintain the very freedom and structure that unfortunately so many take for granted but yet have no idea just what it takes to even have the privilege of voicing their opinion, no matter how backwards the logic of it may be. You all made sacrifices from the day you signed your name on the doted line in the recruiters office. Each of you bravely but gladly sacrificed the life you had known untill then as a civilian to carry on the greatest honor i feel an individual can ever really have. And for those that made the ultimate sacrifice of not making it back, your commitment and tried and true dedication to our great country will never be forgotten. Again, a very special thank you to all the men and women of the armed forces. May we never forget that freedom doesn't come free. It comes from each and every one of your efforts.
BabyBack Maniac sent me here and I'm glad he did. Thank you for this video. Just bought my first Weber, a Smokey Joe. Good job on the ribs. Good production and great editing on the video.
brother that's what it's all about helping people out. thanks for the video I really appreciate the videos you do. the ribs look fantastic. keep smoking TNT BBQ
Rob Stan Yes I do. I use "Ok Guys"," Check this out Guys", "Hey Guys" and "Welcome Back Guys"! If I think of some more I will let you know...OK Guy? LMAOOO!
Great experiment Phil and it looked like those ribs turned out perfect!!! Great seeing a new video from you brother!!! I like that shot of the camera crossing beside the grill as it was cooking and smoking. Nice camera work!!!
Hey T-Roy!!! This experiment went very well. I was happy with the results. I am still refining my filming techniques. I am glad that you liked it. If it gets to "Artsy Fartsy", please let me know...lol! Thanks for watching and commenting brother!
I am from India and has been in love with grilling since I can remember, using crude itty bitty grills (Mostly chicken). I visited the US as part of my work assignment in 2017 for two weeks and unlike most sane people, I bought a Smokey Joe and packed it in my check in baggage (Truth be told, I wasn't aware of there being Weber stores in India which sold the same models, albeit more than double the US rate accounting the currency exchange rate). It arrived in India sans the little packet of screws that was lost in transit and that is when I found the nearest Weber store, who graciously delivered the screws at no extra cost (Even though they had no obligation to do so). Again, unlike most people from my country I prefer pork and beef to white meat. From the day my smokey joe was installed, I have been looking for a practical video for doing exactly this. May be I did not use the right search key words, but this video remained elusive till this day - 08/04/2021 when I chanced on a similar video by babybackmaniac and I am having tears of joy. Daddy, you have not only have college going beneficiaries - your video is making difference half way across the globe.
Finally home from the hospital TODAY after the major car accident I PM'd you about. I am (relatively) ok. All my x-rays came back negative for fractures or major damage to my spine, neck, and arm, but I do have a partially torn Levator Scapulae (in neck, supports the head), and other injured muscles in my arm, hand, and leg. May need surgery if my recovery period does not go as smoothly as the doctor plans, but I am expected to make a full recovery at this point. Anyway... I appreciate the video, the shout out, and just the general awesomeness! When I get better and can move about more freely, and do not feel like a reanimated corpse, I will definitely try to get this done and let you know How it turns out (hopefully make a video and put it in my mini-cooking series for my channel) Stay safe, and watch out for other bad drivers blowing through stop signs at intersections...... - Orvis25 Edit: Here is a quick video on my accident: ua-cam.com/video/IBvO4Fvvq2w/v-deo.html
Great video sir, appreciate you. Just did my own spin on this on a tiny grill. I'd say just about 20 minutes until they finish up right now....they're looking PERFECT!
I made an itty bitty smoker from a itty bitty grill. For small cooks it is a killer smoker. I used and must be IMUSA USA MEXICANA-34 Aluminum Tamale and Steamer Steamer Pot 32-Quart, Silver 13.5 dia. for the smoke chamber, added an extra grill grate some nuts and bolts. Ideal from Smoke Meat with Jef. Enjoyed yours and Babe back manic take on small grills. Keep it up.
Thanks for the video. I have the Smokey Joe also and the thing I didn't like was that the grate doesn't have the flip up ends to add more charcoal. Today I found a 14 inch grate for the Smokey Joe by Grillvanausa on Amazon. You may have already discovered it, but thought I'd mention it. Thanks again!
Fantastic Job, Brother! I very much enjoy yer cookin videos, an yer sense of humour; we'd git along just great, believe ya me :-) I loves me some Smokey Joes! (I gots 4 of em), they can rock some great food!
I brought that same grill last year. I was able to prepare chicken, hotdogs, burgers and ribs on it! Of course I partially cooked my chicken & ribs before I put them on the grill. I love my little grill,as they say, "great things come in little packages". I hope you had a awesome vacation!
Tina, Kim, my daughters and I had a blast! The cruise was fantastic and just being home with my family made it all the more worth while. Great food can be made on these smaller grills if you take your time and keep an eye on them! Thank you for watching and commenting.
Thanks a lot my brotha, I saw this video and followed the exact directions I put a brick in the middle of my Smokey Joe on the 4th of July and I made some fantastic ribs in about 4 hours. Thanks again!!
I just told someone in my communitygarden today about using the brick. They have a Aussie grill. This is the second time I caught someone throwing out a Weber.First time they threw out a 22inch weberkettlegrill.I jumped in our huge dumpster and saved it.The second time I stopped them from dumping a Smokey Joe.It is a GREAT little grill.I going to use a thinner brick.Iam will cook the trimmings from the ribs on the Smokey Joe.GREAT videos.
I have the same grill and it cooks amazing, I've cooked ribs and hotdogs and hamburgers with NO problem.!!! The size is perfect to take to the beach or the parks or anywhere , enjoy your day cooking.!!!!
Nice job. These videos help me get through deployments. My friends and I be discussing your videos almost as if it was a football game. Keep up the awesomeness.
Gregg!!! You just made my day. Who knew my content was worthy of a structured debate. What do you guys discuss (Style, Techniques, Dishes, Prep)? Thanks for watching. Just for the record, my videos and subscribers help me through my deployments as well!!! Hooah!!
First and foremost let me say.....Welcome back home and thank you for your service my friend! Those ribs on that "itty bitty grill" looked insanely delicious. I knew when beautiful Jessica (Kim's mini me LOL) took that 2nd bite it was good. Miss "O" aka the camera woman did a great job on this video. I am so jealous that you have a cousin that gives you such awesome background music.....Groove Frequencies please adopt me as your long distance cousin and send me some of that amazing music LOL. Great video Phil (and girls) super excited to see you ALL again. Be Blessed and Keep on Cooking TOGETHER......
Hello my 'Foodie Friend"! This cook turned out perfectly. As you know, I love being home cooking and enjoying my family. They were delicious as well as depicted by Jess! I shot this video on the 14th and uploaded on the 15th. I am back in parts unknown working :-( My vacation was amazing. my family and I had a great time! I will always be as safe as I can be. Groove Frequencies is NO MORE. I am allowed to continue to use the music that I have since I am not selling it! Thanks for watching and supporting us! XOXO Phil
oh no say it ain't so! NO MORE Groove Frequencies so sorry to hear that :-( Spending quality time with family is the most important thing in the world. It was great seeing you all together again for a brief time. Be blessed and be safe. see ya when you get back from parts unknown..
👍🏾. I use the 14” grill I added a tamale pot now I can smoke with the best of them. There’s plenty of UA-cam videos on how to do this. Thx for the video and keep on grilling
Looks good. I have a slightly larger weber kettle like that and love it, we use ours a lot. Have to be a little creative sometimes like with the simple brick but its a great simple versatile grill and super affordable. And yes, "Lowed and Slowed" is in my vocabulary!
Thank you for the video ! I just bought my first BBQ grill a Smokin Joe because I only have a balcony. So this is my first time actually grillin' for myself. I will start with chicken breast with mesquite wood.
smokey joe is a great little grill. the biggest mistake i see other people make with this grill is loading it up with too much charcoal, and then they burn everything they try to cook.. i rarely use more than 10 briquets when i'm cooking, the shape of the grill concentrates and focuses the heat so well. i really wish weber made charcoal baskets for this grill like they do for their larger ones, that would be really nice.
For some reason I never thought about using a brick on this grill. I have the Smokey Joe Gold and I modified it and added the bottom vents and I LOVE it. Use it mostly during the week and I am thinking of getting the Jumbo Smokey Joe too. But, do I really need 3 grills? haha Also, I use a product called GrillGrates when I cook on this small grill It allows me to use the entire cooking surface and not burn anything and it's kind of a nice medium of direct/indirect cooking. Love em.
You are very welcome! Justin from Baby back Maniac did a rebuttal video if you would like to see it here it is - ua-cam.com/video/Xco5dCaBa_o/v-deo.html. I then did a re-rip video of that one - ua-cam.com/video/DxwQQRoHZOQ/v-deo.html.
Very cool! That was always a struggle for me as well while at college. Always wanting some good grilled food, but couldn't have a full size grill. Keep up the good work, man!
Great Video. Only wish I had a grill to do some Q on Sunday when I was in college. Our college cafeteria was horrible!!!. We referred to the menu as the "Slop Chart". Any college kid out there should be subscribing to your channel in droves after watching this video.
I really enjoy your videos. Very entertaining and informational. I really like how you include your family in the whole thing. On that note I think the shirt is awesome. Where did you get it I need to pick me up one???? Keep up the great work.
That's awesome and a lot of love went into those ribs. I found you bc I watched @babybackmaniac do his version. I love my Smokey Joe, but I think I'll stick to my chicken.
Hello! I just found out about your channel from watching Babyback Maniac and have subscribed. This video was really great and the ribs looked incredible on the smokey Joe. I am looking forward to going through all your videos soon. I noticed you wearing a UNC cap. Are you from NC? I am a resident of NC, but pull for the other shade of blue. Take care!
Sir great just fantastic technique on that smokey joe! Love that sear Sir! and the flavors you develope from the bet go! Cant wait to give a shot. Question; do you sear pork shoulder before smoking it?
I have a crazy question! What kind of ribs are those (do you typically use)? I recently bought 2 racks of Smithfield pork ribs & they were terrible...super fatty. Where do you buy yours?!
This guy right here is one of the good ones!
Phil, brother....great experimental video.....hell that is not just for college students, this is for folks cooking ribs in the park on a smokey joe.....real nice......Great video and funny as usual......outstanding!

Thanks Ray! It was a great suggestion / request. I am glad that it turned out so well! Thanks for watching and commenting my friend!
Hey Dad, i grilled spare ribs on a small chargriller. I did it just like you did, they came out perfect-thank you so much!

Best video by far I can't wait to cook ribs on my itty-bitty grill
Great video! I love the technique, it could be useful for a lot of people.
Love that beer mug !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice beer glass! You drink beer like I do! The ribs look awesome too!!!

Love the cook and the shirt....
Thank you for the video ! I just bought my first BBQ grill a Smokin Joe because I only have a balcony. So this is my first time actually grillin' for myself. I will start with chicken breast with mesquite wood.
Love the shirt!
I cook on my Smokie Joe all the time. Yes Baby Back ribs are the best. Glad to you back on the Tube.
Thank you Deborah! I was glad to be filming again.
Oh I forgot to tell you I am from Chicago also.
Way to rock that mini grill, your ribs turned out great.
Digging the No Hippie stye too.
I wanna see you cook a brisket on a small grill man!! I love all ur videos
smokey joe is a great little grill. the biggest mistake i see other people make with this grill is loading it up with too much charcoal, and then they burn everything they try to cook.. i rarely use more than 10 briquets when i'm cooking, the shape of the grill concentrates and focuses the heat so well. i really wish weber made charcoal baskets for this grill like they do for their larger ones, that would be really nice.
I live in an apartment and use the little Webber grill often. Going to have to give this a try.
Love the shirt by the way.
Hi Paula! If you try this please let me know how it turns out! Thanks for watching!
Nice job on that Phil! Most of my first cooking videos were on my Weber Jumbo Joe so I know you can cook some good food on a small grill.
Yes indeed you can! Thanks for watching my friend!
Thank you sir!! Love the video and I love my smokey Joe as well!
Hey phil nothing like waking up to a good bbq video hope you had a fantastic time on your vacation.
My vacation was amazing. Unfortunately, it ended too soon. Thanks for watching Gary!
Great idea, gonna use it in my full size grill
For some reason I never thought about using a brick on this grill. I have the Smokey Joe Gold and I modified it and added the bottom vents and I LOVE it. Use it mostly during the week and I am thinking of getting the Jumbo Smokey Joe too. But, do I really need 3 grills? haha

*Great video bro. I appreciate you sharing.*

this video has some soul to it!!!!!!!
Just stumbled on this video. looks amazing... is there anythnig you cannot cook?? :)
Do the brick influence the cooking process? Can it be done without it?
Take care!
Does searing the ribs lock in the moisture and help get tender??
Those look sooooooooo delicious!! Great job DC. ^_^
Great video, awesome shirt
Wow those are some great and delicious Ribs my brother!! So juicy and tender!!
Thank you very much! I was very satisfied with the end results. Thank you for watching!
My pleasure!
Fabulous job mon ami
Booger,
Merci beaucoup mon ami. Je suis heureux que vous l'avez apprécié!
Ouuuu La-La hehe
Sir great just fantastic technique on that smokey joe! Love that sear Sir! and the flavors you develope from the bet go! Cant wait to give a shot. Question; do you sear pork shoulder before smoking it?
I have not seared a pork shoulder prior to smoking. It does sound interesting however.
I have a crazy question! What kind of ribs are those (do you typically use)? I recently bought 2 racks of Smithfield pork ribs & they were terrible...super fatty. Where do you buy yours?!
goodmorning! baby backs are the best 😀
Thanks, Lisa!
+Tracy Stansell you're welcome...enjoy your weekend😀
Try the baby back from Costco. My last cook turned out amazing in part to quality meat.
Thank you!
Nice Phil!!!
