    Where does the 5 washer go??

    • @BaumGrillinzBBQ
      @BaumGrillinzBBQ  4 роки тому +4

      It’s sorta a mystery. I called Weber a few years ago about it and they just said it was an extra. So I just ended up tossing it in my collection. The Smokey Joe comes in a few different versions so I was wondering if maybe one of the versions requires 5 washers and this one does not.. so instead of changing packaging up they just mass produce one generic assembly kit. Not sure lol it’s a theory!

    • @BaumGrillinzBBQ
      @BaumGrillinzBBQ  4 роки тому +5

      So I just looked up online the Weber Smokey Joe “Premium” and it does in fact use all five washers. So they just use the same packaging for each Smokey Joe. Must save production cost to just run one set of nut and bolt kits. Hope this helps!

    I got my Smokey Joe earlier this week. I've used it a few times. Can't believe I can make a steak or 4 burgers in less.than 10 minutes. I really like that you can close the vents and it goes out. I can save the coals for later instead.of wasting them.

    Ok. Stupid noob question: Is a chimney really necessary for such a small grill? Is there a chimney-less way to get the coals going? I guess I’m thinking it would be nice to keep it simple for travel and such. (Less stuff to lose and such. You know?)

      Weber makes a wax fire starter that sounds perfect for travel when you don't want to bring your chimney. www.amazon.com/Weber-7417-Lighter-Cubes/dp/B001AN7RGG

    There are four bolts, four lock washers but FIVE regular washers. Weber's instructions list the FIVE washers but not where the extra one goes. Neither does this video.

    • @SuperMurrayb
      @SuperMurrayb 7 років тому +6

      Thanks for calling Weber, Baum Grillin'z BBQ, but is sounds like they are BSing you. The manual indicates there are five plain washers in the parts count but none of the drawings show it being used anywhere. I expect two plain washers are supposed to be used on the centre bolt. One at the top under the lock-washer to protect the aluminum pan from gouging and one under the wing-nut. It seems likely that the assembly instructions have had this error for years or even decades and they would rather baffle customers with BS than fix the document. The little Weber seems to work well once it is together but I did put a cookie tin from the dollar store over the aluminum ash pan to make it easer to empty.

    I really loved my 14" grill from Outdoor Solutions. Picked two of 'em up for about $15 each from HEB, which, evidently is only in Texas. They featured a removable ash catcher so you could simply twist it off and dump the ashes when you were done. It also had a handle which locked the lid down and allowed you to pick the whole thing up and carry it around. Which was very handy for moving, even when hot. You do that with this guy and all that happens is the lid comes off. Anyway, HEB no longer sells it and I can't seem to find it anywhere. This one has a very shallow pan for ashes and it's not even removable. The winds will just blow the ashes around. Maybe that's fine when camping, but do you really want ashes all over your deck or patio?

      I just wanted to let you know I got one of those deals. There was only one left on the shelf. I barely made it. I was wondering if you posted this video the day after you got this small grill? The video says June 26. if that is the end of the season then I better be earlier to visit the store next time so I won't be the last person to get one. If you are looking to mod this grill you should the video "How to smoke ribs in a Weber Smokey Joe | veggie pan hack | BBQ Meat kettle premium" It takes its inspiration from the kamado grills and it looks like it really works very well. It turns this small grill into a beast of a smoker. I plan to do this at some point with my grill. Thanks again for the tip.

    Bought one of these today for $45. Took me an hour to put it together. Watched this before I put it together, but still learned a lot. Didn't know about the lighter cubes & bought some lighter fluid, darn! This little cooker is so cute. I need to get the carry bag & a chimney.

    Very helpful, I had lost the handle screw in the carpet and panic because I thought the bigger ones where the only ones. Until I saw this video.
    Thanks.

    $29.99 would be DIRT cheap. Here in Europe those suckers cost $100.

    How the hell did you get the handle assembled. That thing was impossible with the screws they give you.

      You used the wrong screw, you have to use one in a bag with handles (Philips style) not the ones that come in bag with washers
