Also, Master Wong isn't stating Tai Chi is better, he stated it depends on the situation and that MMA's fighters are trained for combat, period, and that the forms of Tai Chi shouldn't be compared. You should rewatch and listen to what he is saying, and by the way, youtube is a free speech and format to preach as much as he wants? He takes the time to help others, why is that a bad thing?

      happy turtle rule number one in martial arts. don't be where he can hit you. following that guideline alone it doesn't matter who weighs what. a 300-pound man misses the 100-pound man and sets himself up to have his head knocked off. and all the hundred pound man have to do is just not be there when the 300-pound man swings. weight style and technique go out the window when squaring off with knowledge. knowledge is the power

      @mr.mckinnon5680 7 років тому +1

      happy turtle yes strength of the body does have a part of it period but it is also the strength of the Mind. Archimedes once said, give me enough leverage and I can move the world. Notice how he didn't say give me enough power and I can move the world or enough strength. it doesn't take a whole lot of Leverage to overcome strength.

      happy turtle when a soldier steps up to the battlefield. He doesn't give a shit what style of fighting you know period all he knows is that the enemy is not there to make him a cake. and his fighting style is going to be whatever it takes to preserve his own life. of Thumb in the eye a crushed windpipe shattered bones a boot to the face. It does not matter unless you're one of these guys that wants to stand up in a squared Circle and roll around in your underwear with another dude. that is not the reality of fighting. reality of fighting is simple, live or die there are no points in between. this is the soldiers way. Master Wong is absolutely right. You do whatever you have to do to stay alive. choreographed fighting is for Hollywood.

      He's not saying he would power up, just fight differently. In a competition, he's focused on points and rules. If his life or his family is in danger, he will focus on stopping the threat as quickly as possible. If that means breaking the assailant's bones, so be it. If he dies, he dies. He's just going to fight harder to win when the stakes matter and he can't let himself lose.

The problem is the enemy will never know when those punch will hit him because it's very fast and in a very short distance, it could be when Bruce attacks with many fast punch and he do it in the middle of all the punches when the opponent busy with defending himself from all the attacks, don't underestimate chinese martial arts, it's not the martial art, it's more to who using it!

Exactly sifu master Tai chi is for health balance inner strength development and meditation. Watching Tai chi demonstration is hypnotizing. It is poetry in motion. And breathtaking to watch. I believe that the Tai chi Master realized that he got himself into a situation that he was not prepared for. If the Tai chi Master would have studied MMA styles of combat, he would have fared much better. My heart goes out to the Tai chi Master. How many times have I said that I learned more in defeat than I do in victory? Every time.

      it's like karate kid master miyagi said he train so he doesn't have to fight. cobra sensei is opposite, always wanna be a tough guy, think he's better.
      it's not cobra Kai's style that lost in the movie, it was the students of such a teacher to be taught the wrong way.
      master Wong is more like mister miyagi, he knows he's good, because he always practiced, but I like the Cantonese proverb he said, it is true in every aspect of life. life isn't competition with others, it is with yourself, to do the best you can in whatever you set out to do, and always strive to be better in the soul.

      Here is the problem. It's not that Tai Chi isn't designed for present day combat. It's that most people don't practice Tai Chi Chuan for combat.Tai Chi was designed for war. Lethal combat both in one on one situations and in large groups. The problem is that Tai Chi Chuan has enormous health benefits and most people practice it for that purpose. I have been in real life fights and used Tai Chi Chuan to defend myself. The guy who is fighting the MMA guy didn't use a single joint breaking technique. He didn't use the man's force against him to send his attack back on him. So this is why he lost badly.

      Some martial artist stubbornly refuse to see the truth. These things were settled completely back in 1992. The brazillians were proposing that in real fights those fancy moves don't work. The whole martial art world laughed at them. They showed footage of fights in Brazil but many said those were fake. Finally in 1992 the world watched the first UFC that went on cable tv which was actually UFC 2. UFC 1 earlier didn't get much attention.
      Martial artists gave their commentaries and critique but most of them couldn't even understand what the techniques were. Gradually it became so clear to everyone that those fancy moves that some martial arts have practiced for years are garbage in a real fight situation. In offended a lot of pride and caused a lot of shame. Those who continue to challenge reality got beat up in every tournament. Only those who were open minded to learn real boxing, muaythai and juijitsu or wrestling did well in the ring.Pure Kung fu guys, even karate guys became just nuisance.

      heywhatsup65 mma fighting is the best way to win an mma fight. Boxing is the best way to win a boxing match. Karate is the best way to win a karate tournament. These are all sports with rules. If you are in a scrap with some screw ups at the local bar then sure, your man is going to come in handy. But the idea that mma is "real fight" training is no more true than saying tai chi is. A real fight involves the first guy getting hit in the nuts being brutally murdered. Mma is incredible but I don't see those guys defending themselves from nut shots. They're sitting there wide open. I also don't see them using any technique that's going to block a beer bottle to the head or a knife in the gut. As the crazy yelling guy in the video says this conversation is just stupid. A "real fight" is quick, scary and random. All this peacock posing and Dick measuring has zero to do with "a real fight."

MMA while is a very well rounded style if many arts together has a very big advantage over more traditional martial arts that focus in only one specific area of combat. You must know your enemy in order to have a chance in battle, if you don't most likely you will be defeated.

    As a JKD practitioner. I agree that Master Wong is 100% correct. I use elements of Tai chi in my JKD concepts, mainly for balance and energy direction. I saw PLENTY of times where the Tai chi guy could have done EFFECTIVE Tai Chi on the MMA guy, but he was either scared or unfocused. He obviously never sparred much and figured it out. Sometimes, you have to get off your high horse, leave the "demo" life alone and actually spar various opponents to figure out how to apply your movements effectively. And technically it was just sloppy boxing the MMA guy used, which makes me believe the Tai Chi guy wasn't that good to begin with.

    • @joshpickles9022

    • @Jazzman-bj9fq
      @Jazzman-bj9fq 7 років тому +5

      That 'fight' may be representative of 'exposing a fake' or someone being in over their head... Either way, as someone who has practiced traditional martial arts and has sparred, sparring is a much different fish than just going through techniques like 'one-step' defenses and katas. Sparring is different than MMA fights, and both are different than fights on the street. It really goes into your, for what purpose you train for. Most people now want to train MMA because of the awesome knockouts they see on the PPV's but even still, a street fight is a way different thing altogether and moreover a street fight is different than a mugging or random attack with a weapon in a murder attempt. I train for self-defense purposes where I may be in a situation of life and death so what I attempt to learn are techniques that will keep me alive and what would allow me to escape a situation that I don't want to be in. So someone like myself shouldn't be training in a 'sport' form that is designed for sport fights... There are no rules on the street so I don't want to limit myself through repetition training where there are rules as to what is off limits, i.e. groin, neck etc. You gotta know what purpose you train for first and foremost.

      Wardfolio I don't know why people describe mma as a style. I always though combining a handful of styles was just mma. Very similar to JKD. Take things that are good for your personal style and leave the rest. Granted mma is normally at least boxing, Thai, and bjj. If you lack those "basics" it's over for you when fighting a real opponent. I do agree on the challenging part too. Fuck fighting people for ego or glory. I fight because of my friends and family. Most of my good friends are the ones on the mats.

      www.sciencealert.com/mount-everest-isn-t-really-the-tallest-mountain
      That award goes to a mountain called Chimborazo which is underwater.
      That being said, since we haven't explored all of the ocean, who knows, there may be a taller mountain somewhere in the world.

    True, very wise as well. I never thought of Tai Chi as a fighting style more like a healing style. I also don't believe that there's some kind of energy that people can create to exert in a fight. Some trainers have tried to suggest that but beyond the science I don't buy it. I think Tai chi heals because you learn coordination, meditation, and staying in motion not because it's magic, and again it's healing not fighting. Expect to lose a chess game if you come with dice.

    • @wewenang5167
      @wewenang5167 2 роки тому

      well the only energy that you can have with martial arts is actually black magic xD. At least that is what most traditional Silat martial arts actually do. Yeh real black magic and not some chi stuff. Most traditional Silat practitioner are actually also practicing black magic and not like chinese martial artist who says its some cosmic energy bla bla, Silat martial arts say it loud and clear, that it is black magic and satanic ritual. I know this because my great grandma and grandpa do this. xD

    If you want to use tai chi for combat you have to practise tai chi for combat. If you just train for health 5 hours a day you'll be really healthy. If you practice tai chi san shou and push hands and free sparring 5 hours a day you'll be good at combat. The style of your art is irrelevant it comes down to the individual and what aspects of their art they've developed.

    Hey guys I'm Chinese and I know the whole thing let me explain. The so-called taichi master, Lei Lei, in the 10 second fight is literally NOT a master. All his career is deceiving the public and tell everyone he is a kungfu master. Actually he is just FAKE as fxxk. He performs bullshits like hitting watermelons and making birds don't fly. The MMA guy, Xu Xiaodong, decided to expose his lies so he challenged him. Xu also decided to challenge all the fake Kung Fu "masters". Unfortunately, Xu's method is illegal and he makes the powerful Kung Fu Union angry so now he has been stopped by force.

      Master Wong is right about Tai Chi being good in combat but not in this formal movement. Forms are important but traditionally like karate it was not the first thing that is taught. I practice xing yi and I learned all the five fist and it's application before I even saw my sifu do the 5 element linking form. THe form is for coordination( many people think forms were just for show) of the moves in a set but you have to first know the moves individually first. It is also very true that it's not what style is better it's the individual.

    In my experience Tai Chi can is very effective for self defense. It just depends on the situation, the practitioner and how well it's applied.
    Most fights start in crowded bars, indoor parties, and such. So close quarters, flat-footed combat becomes more crucial. This is where Tai Chi excels.
    If someone grabs me, I know a dozen ways to break their arm, wrist, or shoulder or just submit them using Tai Chi Chin Na techniques (Tai Chi joint manipulation like Jiu-jitsu).
    If they try to overpower me, my push hands training makes it easy to control and repel much larger and stronger opponents. And yes, I speak from experience.
    If I really want to hurt them, I may use Peng energy to throw them several feet away, with great force into objects, or other people, with no physical effort whatsoever because hey, it's Tai Chi.
    Now in an open environment, like a street or outdoors or an MMA cage, where your opponent has time to prepare and start bouncing on the balls of their feet, this is where Tai Chi generally becomes less effective.
    In these situations, I'm going to switch to Tang Soo Do (karate kicking style), or Bagua or western wrestling because these are more effective styles in an open environment with full range of motion available.
    But people forget most fights don't start out in a cage. I've never been in a fight where the other guy had time to start bouncing around on his feet. We fought flat-footed in crowded rooms, hallways, etc and that's basically perfect for Tai Chi technique and stances.
    I know from experience that Tai Chi works with devastating efficiency in many fight situations. It's just most people are not learning and training in it properly to make it an effective martial art.

      Well after 10 years of playing street fighter as ryu, in my experience i think the Hadoken is the most effective for self defence. It just depends on the situation, the practitioner and how well it's applied.
      Most fights start in crowded bars, indoor parties, and such. So close quarters, flat-footed combat becomes more crucial. This is where the Hadoken excels.
      If someone grabs me, I will just Hadoken them and send them flying.
      If they try to overpower me, my Hadoken training makes it easy for me to send them flying even against much larger and stronger opponents. And yes, I speak from experience.
      If I really want to hurt them, I may use Shinku Hadoken, my ultimate move that uses up all my meter to blast them several thousad feet away, with great force into objects, or other people, with no physical effort whatsoever because hey, it's Hadoken.
      Now in an open environment, like a street or outdoors or an MMA cage, where your opponent has time to prepare and start bouncing on the balls of their feet, the Hadoken is less effective cos they can block or jump over my fireballs.
      In these situations, I'm going to switch to Shoryuken or Tatsumaki Senpukyaku because these are more effective styles in an open environment with full range of motion available. Also I get bored of hadokening people all the time. It ends fights too fast.
      But people forget most fights don't start out in a cage. I've never been in a fight where the other guy had time to start bouncing around on his feet. We fought flat-footed in arcades or on our PS4 and Xboxs, etc and that's basically perfect for Hadoken .
      I know from experience that Hadoken works with devastating efficiency in many fight situations. It's just most people are not learning and training in it properly to make it an effective martial art. People don't call me street fighter champion for nothing if i wasn't good at fighting in the streets.
      Don't believe me? Challenge me to an internet fight if you dare. Because the internet, especially the youtube comments section, is where all the grandmasters of martial arts resides.
      HADOKENNNNNN!!!!!!!

    Tai Chi as a martial art would be ok vs a drunk who spends all evening lying on his sofa watching tv. Which is about 99% of the guys you're going to have conflict with. If you're up against someone who also does martial arts you're going to need something better. Fortunately in my experience people who do martial arts don't go around picking fights with people.

      @@ONIGIRIKINGU dude it doesnt matter which martial art you practice. You can kick fast yea but to be honest I would wrestle you and finish you on the ground. Every Martial art has its weakness. It doesnt matter how strong you are there will be a guy who is stronger than you. So care your mouth :)
