As with every Police song to which you react, I will, again, suggest 'Don't Stand So Close to Me.' I believe the fact that both of you are teachers will make you appreciate the song.
Agreed but make sure you do the 1980 original, and not the overproduced ‘86 remake they did.
You might also be interested to know that Sting actually started off as a school teacher.
@@Jeflar70 a comparison would be really fun!
If they get the book reference.
oh yes! please react to this one. ( the original ) love it.
“Poets, priests and politicians,
Have words to thank for their positions”
Is such a great lyric.
Words that scream for your submission
but no one's jammin their transmission....(reference to free speech and pirate radio stations)
@@SEANBANOG4 Their logics ties you up and rapes you
Jay & Amber, You'll love their "So Lonely", "Synchronicity II" and "The Beds To Big Without You" !!!!
Every time my wife went out of town to visit relatives I heard "The bed's to big without you." when I went to sleep.
Synchronicity II 🔥🔥🔥
So Lonely, absolute classic, along with Roxanne and Invisible Sun 🤘
Synchronicity II is my absolute favorite Police song! Everything about it is fantastic!
Same, Synchronicity II, my favorite as well!
This was one of those songs that made me realize that the 80s were gonna be a whole different ballgame. Another one was "Turning Japanese" by The Vapors. 1980 was exciting and intriguing.
I love that song too 😁
musically, 1980 was the best year of the 80s.
I always put Video Killed The Radio Star and She Blinded Me With Science in that same category. So weird at the time but so addicting.
Truly, every year of the 80s was a great year for music.
@@surlechapeau I'm torn between '80 and '84.
You will know how to pronounce the title after hearing the song. It’s an ear worm.
😎 perfect explanation, great job
@@gennyreese420that’s is the best comment 🐛🙋🏻♀️
Lynnwood 😈 Brian- Dude another 🇬🇧 band I liked that just couldn't get a long you know with Stings enormous ego!
-#cheers-- !-
I’m back in high school and I’m 58
Sting, Stewart Copland and Andy Summers - THE POLICE!!! Amazing Amazing band, i've seen them twice and would gladly see them again if still together. Synchronicity II & Don't Stand So Close to Me, Highly Suggested!!
One of the greatest bands of all time! All 3 are incredible musicians and their music was completely unique and original. Sting is one of the best lyricists of the last 50 years.
"When the World Is Running Down, You Make The Best Of What's Still Around" is one of my favorite Police tunes.
Next on your list: "Synchronicity II" and "King of Pain." In my English class back in the 80s when we were reading Oedipus, a couple of students noticed that there's a verse in "King of Pain" that references the book.
King of Pain is one of their best
OMG you guys trying to figure out the name, made my day! The Police are so iconic...Amber, I think I've heard you say that you love the show Friends, there's an episode where Phoebe expresses her love of the police, she totally fangirls out when she finds out that Ross's kid Ben goes to the same school as Stings kid, she pretends to be his mom so she can meet him, it's a whole Fiasco LOL💕✌
This takes me back to high school in 1980 and hearing this GREAT song for the first time….while sitting in the school library. Someone has their Sony Walkman with them if I remember right. Love it! ❤
Skipped so many classes hiding in the library listening to mine!
Poets, priests, and politicians- have words to thank for their positions. Words that scream for your submission. And no one's jammin' their transmission...
You guys would really like “canary in a coal mine”, “synchronicity I” and “Synchronicity Ii”. Was so glad to catch these guys on their farewell tour in 2007!
"De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" was the 3rd Police single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and their 1st single to peak in the Top 10 (#10) in 1980. I was pretty sure that "Roxanne" must have reached the Top 10, but it only peaked @ #32 in 1979. Also, I assumed that the 2nd single "Message in a Bottle" was a hit but it peaked @ #74.
Roxanne and Message in a Bottle were hits outside the U.S. The former peaked at #12 in the UK and the latter reached #1 in the UK. It was #2 in Canada but that's before the band's huge stateside success.
Roxanne only became a “hit” in the States after Eddie Murphy sang it in the first 48 Hours movie.
From the album "Zenyatta Mondatta," which are nonsense, made-up words themselves. The Police are completely awesome. If you want another great song by solo Sting, do "Fortress Around Your Heart." OMG. One of his very, very best. Love the reaction, as always. Peace!
The Police "DON'T STAND SO CLOSE TO ME" 🔥🔥🔥
A little bit of a story song. A very literate reference in it that I had to look up the first time I heard it.
This has always been one of my faves from The Police. A fun song with a deep message. Please check out "Canary in a Coalmine," "Bombs Away," & "Invisible Sun."
P.S. I'd never seen this video, but I'm surprised Sting didn't just let Stewart just go tumblin' down the hill.
Stewart would have punched Gordon in the nose
Sting said the truth is that they loved each other too much.
Yes, listen to Canary in a coal mine 😂. And I love how you call her Mom, so sweet!
Second the emotion for "Canary In A Coal Mine" 🤩 I'd never seen this video either, I'm surprised they shot it in the snow, temperature extremes are SO bad for guitars!
Canary in a Coalmine is their most underrated song.
Hey guys, thanks again for doing another request. This was a fun song. I do suggest "Synchronicity I" and "Synchronicity II" plus "So Lonely" "Can't Stand Losing You" "Bring On The Night" "One World (Not Three)" "Regatta De Blanc" "Driven To Tears" "The Bed's Too Big Without You" "Tea In The Sahara" "When The World Is Running Down, You Make The Best Of What's Still Around" and for a Sting solo, I suggest "Fortress Around Your Heart."
EVERY one of those is an absolute treasure, and I think J & Amber would be happy with any of them. Makes you realize what an incredible catalog The Police & Sting have. And your list is just scratching the surface!
Great reaction again, Jay and Amber :) Leave it to The Police to purposely use gibberish for a song title ... and have it land on Billboard as a Top 20 hit. Their diversity was incredible. I agree with some others that Syncronicity II would be a great next reaction for them. It's unique ... of course ... and has a moody, dark feel.
YESSSSSSSSSS!
absolutely!!!! it never got the airplay of king of pain or wrapped around your finger, but it was always one of my favorites
Synchronicity II rocks! Used to play that to death back in the day.
Yep, the Police were pretty much my favorite band back in the day. I saw them headlining a concert with Bow Wow Wow and Jah Wobble on the same bill.
Invisible Sun, King of Pain, Tea in the Sahara, Walking on the Moon were some of my very favorite Police sounds
Sting's 1985 song, "Russians" is particularly poignant in the context of today's conflicts. As young parents and as teachers, I think you'd really enjoy this recording.
couldn’t agree more. i loved the whole Dream of the Blue Turtle album. I went to that concert with a couple friends in our freshman year in high school
Everybody at the Dancefloor repeating out loud the “dododo dadada” refrain!!!! Good memories!!! 🌟✌️
I love the beginning songs of the Police. Another one that will stick with you is "The Bed's too big without you."
Covered by a Jamaican reggae band and stayed at #1 there for nearly two months.
This got so popular and people did love dancing to it. Unbelievably catchy. I saw them in concert around the age of 19 and it really was a great show. I bought three of their albums in a row as they came out when they were really big, and they all have great stuff on them. For some reason though, my favorite Police song still remains, Roxanne.
A couple of Sting songs to consider are “Shape Of My Heart” and “Love Is The Seventh Wave”. Love his voice! Heck of a bass player too! 😁
Stewart Copeland- my favorite rock drummer! Especially on Walking On the Moon.
High school cruising music
Tea in The Sahara is another classic as well as Driven To Tears!
I saw The Police live at Bonnaroo in TN, the FIRST time they got back to play together again after all those years off. That was awesome!
Another great Police song. Jay, you are right. You won't be able to get it out of your head. Others to check out include Bring On The Night, Voices Inside My Head, Invisible Sun, Walking In Your Footsteps, King Of Pain, Tea In The Sahara and Murder By Numbers. Enjoy.
Loving the work you guys do❤️❤️Please check out ‘Walking On The Moon’ next time you decide to listen to the Police🚀🌙Kindest regards from New Zealand❤️
Already done! ua-cam.com/video/FzZ4dRrtTcM/v-deo.html
One of my favorite bass lines and I love that they rode out on it.
A high school friend liked to change lyrics to songs, just to be silly. This song was no exception:
🎵 "A goo goo goo, a da da da
Is all the baby says to you." 🎵
Love the Police, try the first song off the first album. Next to you. It is their version of Punk Rock. I learned the Police are a fusion of Rock and Reggae.
Ahh but the Police did record some punk tunes before that
Like "Dead End Job". And "Fallout"
Yep. Genre-wise, they're progressive new wave.
I love this song because it talks about how all these Influential people with all their intellect and eloquence and how they spread confusion and lies! I love the Police!!❤❤
0:43
Now do Trio with their song "Da Da Da(I Don't Love You, You Don't Love Me}"!
Blast from the past there. Had that record.
I love Trio!
followed by "Din Daa Daa" by George Kranz
Steely Dan - Black Cow
Sting solo--If You Love Somebody Set Them Free
New wave, post-punk, reggae rock. Thats The Police. 🕺
Well you heard Ob La Di Ob La Da by the Beatles, now the Police De DO DO DO, De Da Da Da great songs and talent..
When I first heard the song, I had no clue what they were talking about. When I asked my Dad what it meant, he said it meant nothing, and that was the point! It is a cool song!
Love The Police so many great songs I don't get tired of
The song lyrics literally describe the philosophy behind the Dada-ist movement in art and theater, from early 1900s to mid 1920s in Europe and New York.
Love this song!!! The music is top notch! The title is a reference to being tongue tied. The Police often have clever, deep lyrics or literary references. Sting had been an English teacher before. Which adds meaning to Don’t stand so close to me, about a teacher. Listen to Don’t stand so close to me. Then listen to the monster hit Money for nothing by Dire Straits. It dominated the radio for months. Notice the vocal by Sting. Notice that “I want my MTV” takes the melody from “Don’t stand so close to me”.
I wished I had seen them live while they were together. So when they had a reunion tour, it was a dream come true, and I jumped on the tickets even tho they were $250 each. Their show was one of the best things i have ever seen.
Love this song. Synchronicity is another awesome one.
I love hearing all the old songs. Thanks guys!!!
Thank you for this reaction! I haven't laughed so hard in a long time! I made my hubby, not a UA-cam watcher, see that opening bit where you attempt to say the song. I'm cracking up!
Sting was a teacher before he became a rock star. I Can't Stand Losing & Driven To Tears are really good
Lovel your reaction ❤. Loved this when it was released, but never listened to the words carefully. So Thanks to you I understand what the song was about - great sentiment. I just previously focused on the melody & chorus. 🙏😘
This is a fun song to listen too! Sting (lead singer) I loved one of his solo songs, "We'll Be Together" (1987).
Early 80s...disco had taken over. My friends and I were so depressed, only good rock music at the time was The Who....then came the Police! And our hope for rock music returned! We were so happy and eager to hear anything Police.
The first time I saw this band I was working for a sound rental company out of Cincy and we were hired to do their gig at a bar called Bailiwicks in Kettering. They were promoting their first album, and were pulling their gear in a trailer behind a van they were traveling in. I had no idea who they were and expected some power trio like ZZ-Top. I have never been so blown away by anyone in over 59 years in the business. Awesome is too weak a word. Cathartic? at least that!
Man, I remember this song . . .
I remember the 80s, kind of
Andy Summers is a magical guitar player. This is arguably the greatest trio of all time. I would say equal to Rush but just different styles. 🤷♂️
I love his guitar tone on this song.
Agreed. I don't think Andy gets the props he deserves sometimes. But one thing for sure, the combo of Sting, Summers and Copeland was dynamite.
Jimi Hendrix Experience, 1st album. And Cream 2 great trio bands as well
Remember it well, especially when it was played on Top Of The Pops.
Title of the song De Do Do Do , De Da Da Da ...somehow... BRILLIANT! Only Sting (The Police) can pull this off with their subject matter, songwriting and sound.
Any Police tune is well worth a listen. Thanks.
If you like this, check out "Regatta de Blanc". Basically an instrumental. Really, every Police song is a hit; everyone has their favourite, that's for sure! "Spirits in the Material World" jumps right in and doesn't stop. "Walking on the Moon" is one of my favourites because I never heard anything like it before...
They did Spirits a while ago. I’m still surprised that Jay hated it.
This is my favorite Police song. Brings back great memories.
Just thought of a quirky, fun little song that could only have been a hit in the 90’s. The nonsensical title of this one reminded me of it…. The band is Crash Test Dummies and the song is “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm”. You’ll marvel over the voice.
You know I’ve listened to this song since it came out. It was never one of my favorites but I never once knew what he sang in that little bridge before the chorus. Eloquence. Good grief you guys got it right away. Oh well 40 years later haha.
I always liked Stings explanation of this song. He called it, “A articulate song about being inarticulate.” One of my favorites from them. Good pick and reaction.
This takes me directly to a roller rink in Washington, DC in 1980, where I met Amy Carter, the President’s daughter, and we all skated to this song. God I am old! 😆
Many great songs from these guys, and goofy-ish ones like this too. Fun to watch u 2 enjoy.
One of my favorite Police songs.
Hello folks, another great band of the 70s and 80s. 2 Englishmen are 1 American, with a unique sound.. this used to be pop. We were spoilt. Have you heard their song "the beds too big without you " it has a heavy reggae bass to it 🇬🇧🏴❤
According to lead singer Sting, the song is about the attraction that people have to simple songs.[2] Sting later criticised those who labelled the lyrics of the song as "baby talk," claiming that the song was grossly misunderstood.[2] He evaluated, "The lyrics are about banality, about the abuse of words," saying that "the lyrics have an internal logic."[2]
I was trying to make an intellectual point about how the simple can be so powerful. Why are our favourite songs 'Da Doo Ron Ron' and 'Do Wah Diddy Diddy'? In the song, I tried to address that issue. But everyone said, 'This is bullshit, child's play.' No one listened to the lyrics. Listen to the lyrics. I'm going to remake it again and put more emphasis on what I was talking about.
- Sting, Rolling Stone, 2/1988[2]
Sting also said that "I was trying to say something which was really quite difficult - that people like politicians, like myself even, use words to manipulate people, and that you should be very careful.”[3]
The phrase "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" supposedly was made up by Sting's son. Sting said of this, "In fact, my son came up with it. I've never paid him - so that's another possible lawsuit. He writes songs himself these days. He's got a lot of self-confidence - I don't know where from."[2]
Its B-side, "A Sermon," was originally written by Stewart Copeland in 1977 and is a parable about a band ruthlessly making it to the top. Copeland played most of the guitar as well, including the intro riff, while Andy Summers can be heard in the middle.[4] Sting said of the song, "It's arrogant, but Stewart is good at being arrogant in a funny way - as in that Klark Kent line about 'If you don't like me, you can suck my socks'."[2] In the US version of the single, "De Do Do Do De Da Da Da" was paired with "Friends", a composition by Andy Summers.
"De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" was released as the follow-up single to "Don't Stand So Close to Me" in Britain, and was released as the debut single from Zenyatta Mondatta in America. Upon its release, the single became a top ten hit in the United Kingdom and the United States (their first in said country), reaching No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart[5] and No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. In addition to its English-language release, both a Spanish-language and Japanese-language version of the song were recorded and released in their respective markets in early 1981. Actual 45 rpm copies are rare.[citation needed]
Record World said that "Sting's affecting vocals and a percussion-clad rhythm track have created retail/radio reaction that's strictly big business."[6]
The cover was designed by Hipgnosis and uses the title of the song to juxtapose an image of the band with one of a woman's hand reaching out to a telephone to call the police.
The song was prominently featured in the 1982 film The Last American Virgin and on its soundtrack. It also appeared in the pilot episode of the medical drama St. Elsewhere.
Its crazy u guys listening 🎶 to this today i was just jamming this last night full moon 🌝 🌕 tonight love it, u guys rock ✌️ as always love youall reactions
I know you listened to the Eagles a couple times, but you have to do them again they have dozens of great songs you should react to..."peaceful easy feeling" ,"in the long run", "life in the fast lane""and "take it to the limit " and a lot more....try the Eagles again ..
Screw The Eagles, they block everything.
I think they already know not to do any reactions to Eagles songs, or risk receiving strike against them.
This is a fun song.
Amber & Jauy, yes 👍 definitely u guys need to do more Police 👮♂ Music 🎶 videos. Sting 🦂 is the lead singer 👩🎤 of the Police 👮♂. De Do Do Do Do, De Da Da Da was my number 5th song that I had on my list.
They did react to "Spirits in the Material World" and "Wrapped Around Your Fingers"
Can't say it without singing it!!! 😂
Neil Finn (lead singer of Crowded House/Split Ends and current member of Fleetwood Mac) told a story of when Sting walked backstage at a Crowded House concert some years ago and serenaded Neil by singing the lines "Hey now, hey now," (from the song Don't Dream It's Over) Thinking he was returning the compliment, Neil then proceeded to sing De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da back to Sting. However, Sting took it the wrong way and thus Neil had succeeded in inadvertantly offending him 😆
Since y'all like this title so much, then try these: "Din Daa Daa" by George Kranz, "Shoo-Be-Doo-Be-Doo-Da-Day" by Stevie Wonder, "Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow" by The Rivingtons, "Tee Nine Chee Bit" by Earth Wind & Fire, "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" by Sly And The Family Stone, "La La La He He Hee" by Prince, "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" by Crash Test Dummies, "Hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic" by Isaac Hayes, "Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis Enema Squad (The Doo Doo Chasers)" by Funkadelic & "Eep Opp Ork Ah Ah" by Jet Screamer 🤣
I was born January 1970 so I grew up listening to the police. This Was a time where we had posters up in our bedroom and my entire bedroom ceiling and wall was filled with Duran Duran the police, Adam Ant, and Prince. Those were the only bands that I truly cared about
My wife dragged me to a police concert about 10 yrs ago I really didn’t want to go. It was awesome sting is a showman. The drummer jammed
Possibly my favorite Police song.
Great song!!! Try their "Synchronicity II" it is one of my favorites ✌️
For solo Sting, try "Fortress Around Your Heart" 💐
Stewart ( the drummer) was always filming with his Super 8 camera in the early days. He made a compilation of his movies into a film about 15 years ago. It's very entertaining.
Ha! De Do Do Do , De Da Da Da - Is all I want to say to you" This has been the Ring Tone on my phone for Years! I LOVE IT! LOL!
Never have been that big of a fan of the Police. They are just there for me.
Awww they really were just babies here. So good from a young age
Can’t explain how much I love these guys @!
Amber - I just want to say that it is a special person who employs the phrase 'pish-posh' in any context. Kudos and you have my full support and admiration.
What a talented band, with emphasis on Sting! Love all their songs! ❤
This is my 4th favorite police song don't ask why.
1st: Rock Lobster is AWESOME!! 2nd: This The Police's song was a smash hit at the time.
Oh, guys - your minds will blow when you hear ‘SO LONELY’!
They got the words while touring in Germany. The stage manager didn't speak English and the band didn't speak German. Stage manager finally pointed at the members and said, du, du. Da, da, da". "Du" is "you" and "da" is "there".
Great Great song!!
I remember that you didn't recognize Sting in his solo in the Do They Know Its Christmas video.
My fave is Don't Stand So Close to Me.
The enjoyment on your faces makes my generation want to say "you're welcome"!
The Police dominated rock music for the first half of the 80s. They then passed the torch to U2 around Live Aid.
i had a massive school girl crush on stewart copland, the drummer in the police
For me the quinnticential Police sound is fourn in Bring on the Night, the bass line, the drum fills, the reggae and arpeggio of Anys playing and the over dubs of Sting vocals exhibiting his vast range.....would be a brilliant song to react to
I'd listen to either "So Lonely" or "Invisible Sun" by The Police next. And can I also recommend you try "Cool for Cats" by Squeeze, and "Making plans for Nigel" by XTC, as well.
They used to play the police, to death on my local radio station on J104. And I used to hear this song all the time! Cool on the young folks, reviewing this!
Great reaction. As a life long fan, I just love it when you listen to those Police tracks.
Other Police songs, Synchronicity 1 and Synchronicity 2 and King of Pain and When the World is Running Down.
James Brown, the TAMI show
same tape I've had for years
I sit in my old car
same one I've had for years
Bring On The Night, Synchronicity I, Synchronicity II, Demolition Man, Secret Journey, Hungry for You (J'aurais Toujour Faim de Toi) which is sung all in French until the very end and just a repeat of the chorus is in English, Invisible Sun, Next To You, Can't Stand Losing You, King of Pain, Walking in Your Footsteps, Don't Stand So Close to Me
