Fr, I found Shadow to be kind of boring imo but 06 has some good level design and interesting level themes. That and at least it got the character portrayals right.
@@evdestroy4121 Same, I found Shadow The Hedgehog a chore to get through but with Sonic 06 I at least found enjoyment in it. Yes the story was terrible and the graphics and gameplay was horrific but I will say Sonic 06 has one of the best OST out of any Sonic game and probably the best level design out of any 3D Sonic game.

The models for the human characters are notoriously terrible but other than that the details are nice and detailed imo, looking pretty good for an early 360 game. Unless you're talking about the PS3 version, which has downgraded lighting and other graphical effects. I still enjoy the gameplay personally but there's no denying it isn't nearly as good as the other 3D Sonic games (besides maybe Shadow and Forces).

It just so happens that shadow the hedgehog was one of the sonic games, that I grew up playing back in the early 2000's. And I hated it back then too. Why don't you use your brain for a second before assuming things🤣 usually people who defend godawful sonic games like this, have some of the most brainless arguments for why they like them.
While having to play the same starting stage ten times to get the "true canon" ending is monotonous BS! I still had some fun with Shadow's game such as the different weapons and vehicles as well as the music in the Super Shadow fight plus the multiplayer was decent imo. Still a heavily flawed game to be sure (the android ending is hilariously bad) but at least it tried.
I'mma be honest with you: I actually like Sonic 06 more than Forces AND Lost World. Yeah the game is buggy as crap, but at least the story is tolerable and the music is fire 🔥 (I still jam to His World to this day)
Yes. Idc if its it's a spinoff or not. Sega hasn't had a game that soiled the Sonic franchise since Sonic 06 up until that point. Although we can admit that the 3ds games weren't as trash and the cartoon was okay.
My only problems with Colors is the Reused level design, the writing, and the fact that it’s marketed as a 3D game. Sonic colors isn’t a 3D game, it’s a 2D game with 3D sections
That is just a straight up lie. Nowhere does the game market itself as a 3D game. No where. When looking at the trailers, it shows a good mix of 3D and 2D. The box doesn't do it either
@@BitchChill yes “a good mix”. Unleashed was marketed as a 3D game and had “a good mix” of 2D and 3D in trailers and gameplay. When I played through the game, I could tell that there was a pretty solid ratio like the trailers insinuated. Colors just feels opposite The colors commercials prompted “a good mix” of 2D and 3D. The reason I think that’s misleading is because the 2D sections in colors override the 3D sections 65%/35%…not exactly what I’d call “a good mix”

I like forces for its spectacle. It's style over substance in a lot of ways. You've got dialogue while in the stage itself that tell you the urgency of the situation, you have animated QTEs, you have enemy robots that run away from you rather than just standing around waiting to be blown away, etc etc!!
I'm not exactly sure if I believe that given how much positive traction the game gets these days. I mean given how everyone treats it these days it's probably the opposite.
I tried to play it personally. Like most people I thought the day stages were awesome but I only really got to play 2 of them. I stopped because I just couldn't push myself to keep going because of the werehog. If he had been in a slower paced sonic game like in the adventure games maybe I would've been able to deal with it better. But going from the fastest Sonic's ever been to going super slow in comparison was just really messing with me. No hate from me though I respect the people that love the game. My favorite game is Colors so I'm not one to talk lol
My opinions on the games: Sonic CD - I love it! It was the first Sonic game I have played and beat, in 2019. My favourite 2D Sonic Game. Shadow The Hedgehog: I enjoyed playing the neutral campaing, and I'm now playing the rest of the game, and it's meh... Story is ridcolus and the worst in the series. I don't mind guns, but I think it would be better if they desinged a moveset that would use these cool Shadow Chaos abilities. Sonic Colors: Awesome game! I love it. I think that story works for this game and Wisps are awesome addition. Right now I like it more than Generations and it's my favourite boost game. But I haven't played Sonic Unleashed, so... Sonic Lost World: Haven't played it... yet. Sonic 06: Haven't played it, but I love the music. Sonic Forces: I personally enjoyed the game, but it's flawed. Classic Sonic stages suck tho. Probably one of my least favourite 3D Sonic Games. 7/10 And that's all of the games (I'm sorry for any grammatical mistakes I may have made, but I'm from Poland and my english still isn't perfect).
Yeah, forces is bad but its not REALLY bad like everyone says these days, I did like some parts of the game, it just felt mediocre, painfully, but not BAD as in sonic Labyrinth bad!
I love it too. Black Knight is definitely better, but Secret Rings is still fun, even with motion controls. The linear level design was really fun because of how they used it. Honestly, the only thing I really disliked was the sp system. I like to just get my abilities without having to choose between them, which Black Knight did.

I can respect that complaint, though I personally have fun making different skill rings for different types of missions, like a defensive ring or aggressive ring or speed ring and an OP control ring. Like you have skills that get rid of the decreasing speed from jump sliding, or skills that let you kill enemies with the short hop (super satisfying and cool), etc etc.
I think Forces gets most of its hate because just before it we got Mania, even tho I enjoy Forces more than Mania the majority doesn't. If Forces just released by itself any other year, it'd be in a situation kinda like Lost World in my opinion
I used to hate CD, but the Christian Whitehead port made it one of my favorite classic Sonic games. So many issues and extra features made the experience so much better. It has the improved classic physics that Mania ended up using, classic spindash instead of that jank one in the game, Japanese Soundtrack, camera moves forward a bit to help you react to oncoming obstacles, smoother framerate (especially in the special stages), the time traveling cutscene is much faster and transitions into the gameplay smoother, and Tails as an unlockable character gives you a new way to play. These sound like minor fixes, but they really elevated the experience I had in Gems Collection and made me see why that game is so special
I actually really love the level design in Sonic CD since it is very wide and expansive and I don't think it's messy/random. It's like there is no one way to complete the game. I get that the other classic games have branching paths as well, but Sonic CD takes it into a new light since there are multiple secrets around the levels, it's fun trying to get to the past/future, it actually makes finding the generators sometimes hard if you don't know where they are already, and it actually makes backtracking fun. Plus, the vibrant beautiful environments and Japanese soundtrack being incredible already, I absolutely love Sonic CD. :)
Secret Rings was hated about as much as Forces I think lol It's hated a bit less nowadays but I think it's pretty alright once you get used to the controls. Looks very good for a 2007 Wii game and has a great soundtrack.
Secret rings struggled from the poorly set up progression system of playing random missions until you progress in the story. Other than that, it’s not that bad. Better than black knight imo
Shadow the Hedgehog's problem is not the guns. Its more the nonsenical narrative apart from the Last Story, terrible writing, ironic funny "The Room" level dialogue and mischaracterising Shadow as a character
The thing about Fang is that him having a gun is acceptable because he doesn't have any powers like the others do. He doesn't have super speed or strength like Sonic and Knuckles , cant summon hammers like Amy, can't fly like Tails, or use chaos powers like Shadow
No it didn't sega did they took all the wrong lessons from 06 when the only lesson they should've have learn. Was not to rush games which is a lesson they clearly haven't learn cause they still had games rushed( boom and forces)

It's the reason why Unleashed (and by extension every game afterwards) is the way it is. I don't think a game that _didn't_ ruin the reputation of the series itself would be talked about so harshly in a negative light
Sonic 06 is just "your mileage may vary" . People either got a lemon that crashed just outside of the dealership so they can claim you did something wrong and the car was fine when you left. You then have others who somehow drove cross country in that lemon with the dealers wondering if they sold them the right lemon.
Sonic Forces: I watched the earlier video on that one. It was my first 3D Sonic game, so I did like it a lot (despite raging over the unfamiliar controls and bosses). With that said, I do agree with almost every point you made.
Sonic forces was probably hated because 1: it came out around the same time as super mario odyssey 2: it came out the same year as the aclaimed sonic mania (This all made the game look way worse) 3: The boost gameplay wasn’t something many fans still wanted. I think that especially in this nostalgia filled period, most fans wanted a sonic adventure 3 or something like that 4: the game is short 5: classic Sonic was generaly considered unnecissary 6: the story was dissapointing to most fans, as it still had a good amount of humor, when most people thought the game would be more serious So yeah, with the short lenght, tiredness of the formula, other better games coming out around the same time, and the dissapointing story, it doesn’t suprise me that most people don’t like the game, even if i really enjoyed it!
6:36 I have the same feeling about Sonic Unleashed. I doubt that Sega actually saw the game's actual score, and we seriously have to shake Sega for getting the Remaster or at least a port. Though the blonde guy on the official Sonic streams definitely knows that.
Although I hate Forces, there are a few things I can compliment about. The soundtrack is amazing, but that's kind of a thing with every Sonic game. With the exception of Green Hill, each level in the game looks pretty good graphics wise. You can see things constantly moving like the carts moving in Death Egg, the machines moving around in Chemical Plant, and all the gears in Arsenal Pyramid. My favorite designed place in Forces is probably Eggman Empire Fortress. The avatar was a neat idea, but sadly it had to be another Modern Sonic with a weapon not used to its fullest potential.
ok so here are my thoughts on all the games mentioned in the video: i personally love sonic cd, its by no means perfect but honestly i loved every second of it (except for the freezing jets or whatever they are in WW, fuck those are frustrating to deal with); its special stages have become my favourite, the use of samples in its soundtrack is really cool, time travel is an interesting idea and cmon, metal is in it. cmon, its metal. im sure a lot of people love metal i dont hate shadow the hedgehog cause of the guns, i hate it for its nonsensical story, awful slippery heroes-like controls, and holy shit just let me skip the cutscene i dont care about the damn story, i dont want to beat the game just to not watch the cutscenes, oh and having to replay it with every outcome to get the final story. BS also starting the trend of butchering shadow as character. keep in mind: im not an adventure, classic, or boost/modern diehard, they just straight up fucked up with shadow the hedgehog in too many ways imo i used to be the one that didnt like colors all that much for many reasons that others dont, but after replaying it its become one of my favourite games to go back to. to me it just works as a hybrid of 2d and 3d. colors ds pulled off a fully 2d game perfectly well, whats wrong with wii version? the only issue being the writing but thats beating a damn fossil at this point. i dont have anything against lost world personally. i havent played much of it cause my laptop is too damn slow to play it full speed but im open to giving it a shot. ok 06 is one of those games i want to play and experience from myself on og hardware. played project 06 tho and had a blast. i know its not the same, like bruh its in the video, but its such a guilty pleasure game because i feel like i really shouldnt be enjoying it as much as i am while playing it cause "its 06" you know? music however is spot on (cough dreams of an absolution, kingdom valley, crisis city, white acropolis (has anyone reading this heard it with 2 parts synced up at the snare/crash at the end/beginning of the songs?), aquatic base, just to name a few of my favourites) "oh right, forces exists" is my reaction when i see gameplay of forces, so i think that says something about the game
I personally LOVE Shadow the Hedgehog. Sure, the story's nonsensical, but I never take the stories in Sonic games too seriously. Since Heroes is my favorite game ever, I like Shadow's control scheme very much. And you CAN skip the cutscenes in Shadow the Hedgehog, just press the START button. As for Colors, I recently replayed it and even beat the game and I can safely assure you I don't like it. It don't hate it, but I don't like it either. It looks good, it's got good music, and the wisps are very fun to use (except Cube and Rocket). The rest of the game sucks ass however. The level design is either way too linear or way too slow, so it consistently has this "Hurry up and wait" thing going for it. The writing is terrible and the story is boring. Sure, there are some good lines here and there (A prime example would be "Just say you're going to destroy us and stop embarrassing yourself") but for the most part it's just lame jokes that get stale WAY too quickly ("Baldy Nosehair" and "Extra Large Clobbering" come to mind).
@King Kayro trust me ive tried skipping the cutscenes every single time i played shadow, start button does absolutely nothing, maybe its different on ps2 but pcsx2 sucks anyway, so... not gonna try that As for colors i personally just skipped all the cutscenes, thats how little i care about the story of colors, didnt want to hear a single baldy nosehair while playing it Also have you played ds colors? Maybe youll like it better than wii version if you havent

Personally, I love Sonic Forces. I hold it dear to my heart as it was the first game that got me into Sonic and its lore and games. Its soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks of a video game I ever heard, especially Infinite’s Theme and Aqua Road. I like Infinite as a character and antagonist and I hope he’ll come back in another future Sonic game. I like the continuity with this game and Mania and was happy to see Classic Sonic back, despite his mediocre gameplay. I like the visuals and every character seemed good, well maybe except Tails. I also loved the Episode Shadow dlc as well, especially the new remixes. Only gripe is I guess I wish it was a little longer, there were more levels and characters to play as, and maybe even a battle with Chaos. I’m prepared to be pummeled in the replies oof.
I actually like Sonic Forces because 1. I like Classic Sonic, and 2. I just had fun, I ignore what other people were saying about this game and had fun. For people who hates glitches, I love glitches since it allowed me to have more fun with this game.

I don't really hate any sonic game i enjoy all of them but if i had to pick my least favorite it had to be forces i liked it but it was the most disappointing experience i had with a game it promised so much but delivered very little
Honestly Sonic Forces was the worst video game experience I’d had in awhile. I was genuinely really excited for sonic forces before it came out and I genuinely was so disappointed by this product. I WAITED 4 YEARS FOR THIS.
CD: It's usually the levels in the back half of the game that annoys me (Metalic Madness gets all of my hate.), other than that is alright Shadow: Never played it, I should one day Colors: This poor game. it's not in my top 5 but I like it a lot. Lost World: I hated this when it first came out because I wanted Generations again, when I went back a couple of years later, I really enjoyed it 06: I don't dislike the game (The only sonic game I do dislike is Secret Rings) it's just that outside of Sonic's levels the game is boring, and I don't care what anyone says the plots sucks outside of Shadow's Forces: This game could've and should've been better, but I still enjoyed it enough to give it the thumbs up
Haven't played much of CD but collision chaos is the worst sonic level I've ever played. I genuinely prefer all of forces' classic stages over CC. Maybe something from 06, lost world, or shadow is worse but I haven't played those.
Ok so here are my thoughts on the games here. CD: I'm indifferent to it 5/10 Shadow The Hedgehog: can't have a say on it, haven't played it ?/10 06: has a lot of problems but I love it. 7.3/10 Colors: idk why tf it's getting hate in the first place. 7.4/10 Lost World: it's decent, it aight. It my least favorite 3D Sonic game, but I don't think it's bad. It's ok at best. 6.8/10 Forces: I find it better than any other game on this list. It's fine I don't see what the problem is. 7.5/10 So when it comes to me, I don't hate any Sonic game (except for ROL and Sonic GBA.)
The problem with Sonic games' expectations, they think that they are getting a Sonic game that controls like sonic. Let me ask this, what sonic games were standard Sonic games? They say sonic has too many changes in all games. But what makes the game a normal Sonic game?
I feel kinda bad for Sonic Free Riders, that game got a worse fate than being hated, it got forgotten, people rarely talk about it or even mention it. Same with Team Sonic Racing, people just pretend it didn't happen. But yeah, SFR controls suck and TSR lacks content.
Sega is notorious for over compensating when things inevitably go wrong and instead of improving themselves they scrap the idea as well as pretend it didn't exist: *No third storybook game *No Sonic 4, episode 3 & Knuckles *No more riders games *No more Sonic RPGs etc.
Sonic forces is painfully mediocre, its very boring, and classic sonic controls like a steel iron ball, stay away unless you really wanna play something new
I actually like Lost World as well. For Forces, well, I don't completely hate that game. I just wish it was better than what we got. What sucks even more about Forces is that Mania is the appetizer of that game.

Despite how hated the game is, to me personally but I believe I lot of people will agree with me on this, the soundtracks will always be stellar. The soundtrack to Forces, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Colors are some of my favourite soundtracks to video games, ever.
The gun gameplay in Shadow actually works well. The only issue in that game was the missions structure where you have to kill/destroy everything which made stages really drag. One thing is really stupid is Shadow riding vehicles when he already runs faster than them.
@AkameGaKillfan777 The stage that's in the past, on the ARK with Maria where you have to hunt for and kill all 35 Artificial Chaos' for the Hero Mission, Lost Impact, is one of the worst stages I have ever played in a Sonic game and this is coming from someone who likes Shadow the Hedgehog. The level is a giant maze that you are guaranteed to get lost in because most everything looks the same, takes a long time to go through, and god help you if you happen to miss any Artificial Chaos' and then have to go through the stage a second time.
I love Sonic Colors from a gameplay aspect but the thing I dislike about the game the most is the precedent it set for the series, in terms of its cutscenes, where the characters kind of just stand there flailing their arms, and the characterization of everyone/writing, and it didn't help that people saw this game a return to form for the franchise/character which led it going into that direction with the characters and writing, love the level design and gameplay though

I've never thought Sonic Forces is even close to the worst. I think it's okay. I got it at launch, it was an alright 3 hour game, plus it wasn't close to a full price game so it didn't hurt that much. What would be considered "was hated the most", object a, which everyone hated, but changed their mind after a day, or object b, that only a few hated, but still do? Object a would at least deserve a mention.

@@Mob-ov2fg I've seen that video before, and there's a lot of things that I agree and disagree with, with some arguments I just don't think were well thought out. If you ask me, a video that does a MUCH better job explaining the flaws of Sonic CD is the "Quickies Don't Cut It" video by Retropolis Zone. It's an hour long, but does an excellent job criticizing the game.
To be honest, I never really saw why people hated Sonic Forces this badly. I kind of always treated it as a guilty pleasure, I knew it was kind of mediocre, but I still really enjoy it as a game. Sad to see it get all this (partially undeserved) hate.
@@Matthasnocuts no one, but yeah, when I booted bubsy 3d as a joke on a emulator, sure while the art style is worse than sonic lost world, i felt that the gameplay was quite solid, I give the game a 65 to 70 and don't get why it gets hate outside the art style
sonic 06 is my favourite game. The music, the bosses and the athmospere are just great in my opinion. It´s sad, that Sonic 06 was so rushed, but I will still enjoy it.
Every time I try to defend "Sonic Colors" strong points and look at the game for what it is and what it does right, I'm ALWAYS greeted by a bunch of 2000's era 3D Sonic snobs who think that Sonic was ONLY ever good in strictly 3D, and that story is the ONLY thing that should ever matter in a Sonic game, and who only care about ambition, regardless weither or not that ambition is executed correctly or not. I just feel like nowadays its illegal to defend "Sonic Colors" which always makes me die inside.
I don't tend to hate games very often. If I had to choose one out of the one's I've played then I'd choose forces. It ran fine enough (maybe except classic sonic sometimes) but to the levels were pretty short and story was kinda not to my liking. (Not that it needs a story but with what they gave us, yeah) Also that Sonic's running animation is not my favorite lolz I out of the ones on the list, I do enjoy 06 but just because I loved shadows and silvers stories. Also I didn't have a hard time playing it because I have a bit of a higher tolerance to gameplay since it's not the top thing for me in games. I personally also didn't come across too many bugs that ruined it for me.
As a old school fan, Sonic Spinball was and is my most hated Sonic game, BUT i still paid money for it and beat the game. its just the rage i felt doing that lasted 20 plus years LOL.
Can't wait for forces to get the unleashed treatment, just imagine looking back to all the forces hate 10 years from now and everyone changing their mind on the game.
I recently saw a video where they went through the Acts which were originally the main levels from a 2 Act structure, and the rest of the acts were gimmick levels. Because of that video I downloaded a save file and played the game with just those levels, and really enjoyed it. Beforehand I couldn't get past the first world before being frustrated and bored
The problem with Sonic CD is that people want to play it like it is a normal classic Sonic game, and in reality, it isn't. Sonic CD is a pretty unique game in the series, with the mechanic of time travel being key in the exploration, in these larger and more vertical levels, compared to the other games. People who play Sonic CD and hate it probably don't know the mechanics of the game very well, as a said, it isn't your typical classic Sonic game where you have to travel as fast as you can to the goal, in this one, the main objective is to make a good future in the levels by traveling to the past and breaking the robot generator capsules. While you can beat the game being fast by grabbing the time stones, i'd say it's a lot tougher to do than breaking the individual generators in each act, cause this game has very few levels, and so very few chances of getting them, and the special stages could become pretty difficult at the first couple of playthroughs, but you will get used to it if you play them a lot, same with the more open level design, which could be confusing for some.
The problem with the time travel mechanic isn't that it makes the game different from the others. It's just that the game implements the mechanic in a really half baked way and asks for so much from the player with very little incentive to do so. The game asks you to: -Meander around the level design until you just happen to luckily stumble upon a past time post. -Very carefully and slowly roam around even more with the time travel potential until you find a spot in the level design that allows you to run fast for a few seconds. -Once you time travel to the past, you are left to search for and destroy just one random, puny, hard-to-find machine with NO indications as to where it could be. And keep in mind, Sonic CD's levels are HUGE and super condensed and cluttered! -After destroying the machine, continue on your way and run to the goal post. -Do all of that within a ten minute timer. -Repeat the process for fourteen levels, with each level getting more clustered and convoluted as they go on. -You can't fail a SINGLE time, otherwise you won't get the good future for the zone or a good ending for the game. And reminder, if you start running with the time travel potential for too long and then slow down for a single frame, you automatically lose the time travel potential regardless if it was your fault or because of the game's level design. So now you need to roam around and find ANOTHER past time post and repeat the process all over again. Frankly, absolutely nobody is going to pull all of this off on their first try without looking up a map of the levels or watching a walkthrough. You might argue that having to play through the game multiple times until you succeed allows for more replayability, and sure, I've played Sonic CD and have gotten the good future a few times myself and have gotten plenty of moments of enjoyment, but if the entire game made itself stand out from the classics with a brand new, super complex mechanic, just to barely even complement its core mechanic, then that's not good game design. Nobody would go for this kind of playthrough unless they're forced to, or unless they really, REALLY enjoy playing the game this way. Sure, getting some new visuals and new music is a really neat reward for succeeding, but gameplay-wise, there's a very, very insignificant benefit to doing this playthrough. Time travel stops being a neat little gimmick and just becomes a hindrance to frustrate you. There's a reason why the time travel mechanic is constantly dubbed as "A good idea with awful execution".

The models for the human characters are notoriously terrible but other than that the details are nice and detailed imo, looking pretty good for an early 360 game. Unless you're talking about the PS3 version, which has downgraded lighting and other graphical effects. I still enjoy the gameplay personally but there's no denying it isn't nearly as good as the other 3D Sonic games (besides maybe Shadow and Forces).

It just so happens that shadow the hedgehog was one of the sonic games, that I grew up playing back in the early 2000's. And I hated it back then too. While having to play the same starting stage ten times to get the "true canon" ending is monotonous BS!
I still had some fun with Shadow's game such as the different weapons and vehicles as well as the music in the Super Shadow fight plus the multiplayer was decent imo.
Still a heavily flawed game to be sure (the android ending is hilariously bad) but at least it tried.

The colors commercials prompted “a good mix” of 2D and 3D. The reason I think that’s misleading is because the 2D sections in colors override the 3D sections 65%/35%…not exactly what I’d call “a good mix”

I like forces for its spectacle. It's style over substance in a lot of ways. You've got dialogue while in the stage itself that tell you the urgency of the situation, you have animated QTEs, you have enemy robots that run away from you rather than just standing around waiting to be blown away, etc etc!!

I tried to play it personally. Like most people I thought the day stages were awesome but I only really got to play 2 of them. I stopped because I just couldn't push myself to keep going because of the werehog. If he had been in a slower paced sonic game like in the adventure games maybe I would've been able to deal with it better. But going from the fastest Sonic's ever been to going super slow in comparison was just really messing with me. No hate from me though I respect the people that love the game. My favorite game is Colors so I'm not one to talk lol

My opinions on the games:
Sonic CD - I love it! It was the first Sonic game I have played and beat, in 2019. My favourite 2D Sonic Game.
Shadow The Hedgehog: I enjoyed playing the neutral campaing, and I'm now playing the rest of the game, and it's meh... Story is ridcolus and the worst in the series. I don't mind guns, but I think it would be better if they desinged a moveset that would use these cool Shadow Chaos abilities.
Sonic Colors: Awesome game! I love it. I think that story works for this game and Wisps are awesome addition. Right now I like it more than Generations and it's my favourite boost game. But I haven't played Sonic Unleashed, so...
Sonic Lost World: Haven't played it... yet.
Sonic 06: Haven't played it, but I love the music.
Sonic Forces: I personally enjoyed the game, but it's flawed. Classic Sonic stages suck tho. Probably one of my least favourite 3D Sonic Games. 7/10

I love it too. Black Knight is definitely better, but Secret Rings is still fun, even with motion controls. The linear level design was really fun because of how they used it. Honestly, the only thing I really disliked was the sp system. I like to just get my abilities without having to choose between them, which Black Knight did.

I can respect that complaint, though I personally have fun making different skill rings for different types of missions, like a defensive ring or aggressive ring or speed ring and an OP control ring. Like you have skills that get rid of the decreasing speed from jump sliding, or skills that let you kill enemies with the short hop (super satisfying and cool), etc etc.

I think Forces gets most of its hate because just before it we got Mania, even tho I enjoy Forces more than Mania the majority doesn't. If Forces just released by itself any other year, it'd be in a situation kinda like Lost World in my opinion

I used to hate CD, but the Christian Whitehead port made it one of my favorite classic Sonic games. So many issues and extra features made the experience so much better. It has the improved classic physics that Mania ended up using, classic spindash instead of that jank one in the game, Japanese Soundtrack, camera moves forward a bit to help you react to oncoming obstacles, smoother framerate (especially in the special stages), the time traveling cutscene is much faster and transitions into the gameplay smoother, and Tails as an unlockable character gives you a new way to play. These sound like minor fixes, but they really elevated the experience I had in Gems Collection and made me see why that game is so special
I actually really love the level design in Sonic CD since it is very wide and expansive and I don't think it's messy/random. It's like there is no one way to complete the game. I get that the other classic games have branching paths as well, but Sonic CD takes it into a new light since there are multiple secrets around the levels, it's fun trying to get to the past/future, it actually makes finding the generators sometimes hard if you don't know where they are already, and it actually makes backtracking fun. Plus, the vibrant beautiful environments and Japanese soundtrack being incredible already, I absolutely love Sonic CD. :)

Problem with people disliking the guns in Shadow is the fact its not forced on you. You can beat the entire game without picking up a single gun.
Just because the guns or really any gameplay feature is optional, doesn't mean people can't have problems with them or criticize them.

The guns are some times pretty fun to use like boss fights and to defeat some different enemies

It's hated a bit less nowadays but I think it's pretty alright once you get used to the controls. Looks very good for a 2007 Wii game and has a great soundtrack.

Sonic 06 is just "your mileage may vary" . People either got a lemon that crashed just outside of the dealership so they can claim you did something wrong and the car was fine when you left. You then have others who somehow drove cross country in that lemon with the dealers wondering if they sold them the right lemon.
Sonic Forces: I watched the earlier video on that one. It was my first 3D Sonic game, so I did like it a lot (despite raging over the unfamiliar controls and bosses). With that said, I do agree with almost every point you made.
People didn't find a distaste for Shadow because of the guns, it was because of the tedious mission structure and multiple paths.

Sonic forces was probably hated because
1: it came out around the same time as super mario odyssey
2: it came out the same year as the aclaimed sonic mania
(This all made the game look way worse)
3: The boost gameplay wasn’t something many fans still wanted. I think that especially in this nostalgia filled period, most fans wanted a sonic adventure 3 or something like that
4: the game is short
5: classic Sonic was generaly considered unnecissary
6: the story was dissapointing to most fans, as it still had a good amount of humor, when most people thought the game would be more serious
So yeah, with the short lenght, tiredness of the formula, other better games coming out around the same time, and the dissapointing story, it doesn’t suprise me that most people don’t like the game, even if i really enjoyed it!

Although I hate Forces, there are a few things I can compliment about. The soundtrack is amazing, but that's kind of a thing with every Sonic game. With the exception of Green Hill, each level in the game looks pretty good graphics wise. You can see things constantly moving like the carts moving in Death Egg, the machines moving around in Chemical Plant, and all the gears in Arsenal Pyramid. My favorite designed place in Forces is probably Eggman Empire Fortress. The avatar was a neat idea, but sadly it had to be another Modern Sonic with a weapon not used to its fullest potential.

i personally love sonic cd, its by no means perfect but honestly i loved every second of it (except for the freezing jets or whatever they are in WW, fuck those are frustrating to deal with); its special stages have become my favourite, the use of samples in its soundtrack is really cool, time travel is an interesting idea and cmon, metal is in it. cmon, its metal. im sure a lot of people love metal
i dont hate shadow the hedgehog cause of the guns, i hate it for its nonsensical story, awful slippery heroes-like controls, and holy shit just let me skip the cutscene i dont care about the damn story, i dont want to beat the game just to not watch the cutscenes, oh and having to replay it with every outcome to get the final story. BS
also starting the trend of butchering shadow as character. keep in mind: im not an adventure, classic, or boost/modern diehard, they just straight up fucked up with shadow the hedgehog in too many ways imo
i used to be the one that didnt like colors all that much for many reasons that others dont, but after replaying it its become one of my favourite games to go back to. to me it just works as a hybrid of 2d and 3d. colors ds pulled off a fully 2d game perfectly well, whats wrong with wii version? the only issue being the writing but thats beating a damn fossil at this point.
i dont have anything against lost world personally. i havent played much of it cause my laptop is too damn slow to play it full speed but im open to giving it a shot.
ok 06 is one of those games i want to play and experience from myself on og hardware. played project 06 tho and had a blast. i know its not the same, like bruh its in the video, but its such a guilty pleasure game because i feel like i really shouldnt be enjoying it as much as i am while playing it cause "its 06" you know? music however is spot on (cough dreams of an absolution, kingdom valley, crisis city, white acropolis (has anyone reading this heard it with 2 parts synced up at the snare/crash at the end/beginning of the songs?), aquatic base, just to name a few of my favourites)

I personally LOVE Shadow the Hedgehog. Sure, the story's nonsensical, but I never take the stories in Sonic games too seriously. Since Heroes is my favorite game ever, I like Shadow's control scheme very much. And you CAN skip the cutscenes in Shadow the Hedgehog, just press the START button.
As for Colors, I recently replayed it and even beat the game and I can safely assure you I don't like it. It don't hate it, but I don't like it either. It looks good, it's got good music, and the wisps are very fun to use (except Cube and Rocket). The rest of the game sucks ass however. The level design is either way too linear or way too slow, so it consistently has this "Hurry up and wait" thing going for it. The writing is terrible and the story is boring. Sure, there are some good lines here and there (A prime example would be "Just say you're going to destroy us and stop embarrassing yourself") but for the most part it's just lame jokes that get stale WAY too quickly ("Baldy Nosehair" and "Extra Large Clobbering" come to mind).

As for colors i personally just skipped all the cutscenes, thats how little i care about the story of colors, didnt want to hear a single baldy nosehair while playing it

Personally, I love Sonic Forces. I hold it dear to my heart as it was the first game that got me into Sonic and its lore and games. Its soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks of a video game I ever heard, especially Infinite’s Theme and Aqua Road. I like Infinite as a character and antagonist and I hope he’ll come back in another future Sonic game. I like the continuity with this game and Mania and was happy to see Classic Sonic back, despite his mediocre gameplay. I like the visuals and every character seemed good, well maybe except Tails. I also loved the Episode Shadow dlc as well, especially the new remixes. Only gripe is I guess I wish it was a little longer, there were more levels and characters to play as, and maybe even a battle with Chaos. I’m prepared to be pummeled in the replies oof.

Honestly Sonic Forces was the worst video game experience I’d had in awhile.
I was genuinely really excited for sonic forces before it came out and I genuinely was so disappointed by this product.
I WAITED 4 YEARS FOR THIS.
CD: It's usually the levels in the back half of the game that annoys me (Metalic Madness gets all of my hate.), other than that is alright
Shadow: Never played it, I should one day
Colors: This poor game. it's not in my top 5 but I like it a lot.
Lost World: I hated this when it first came out because I wanted Generations again, when I went back a couple of years later, I really enjoyed it
06: I don't dislike the game (The only sonic game I do dislike is Secret Rings) it's just that outside of Sonic's levels the game is boring, and I don't care what anyone says the plots sucks outside of Shadow's

The problem with Sonic games' expectations, they think that they are getting a Sonic game that controls like sonic. Let me ask this, what sonic games were standard Sonic games? They say sonic has too many changes in all games. But what makes the game a normal Sonic game?

I feel kinda bad for Sonic Free Riders, that game got a worse fate than being hated, it got forgotten, people rarely talk about it or even mention it. Same with Team Sonic Racing, people just pretend it didn't happen. But yeah, SFR controls suck and TSR lacks content.
Sega is notorious for over compensating when things inevitably go wrong and instead of improving themselves they scrap the idea as well as pretend it didn't exist:
*No third storybook game
*No Sonic 4, episode 3 & Knuckles
*No more riders games
*No more Sonic RPGs
etc.
Lost World is one of my favorite Sonic games, as far as Forces, I haven't played it yet, until then, I have a neutral view of it.
Sonic forces is painfully mediocre, its very boring, and classic sonic controls like a steel iron ball, stay away unless you really wanna play something new
I actually like Lost World as well. For Forces, well, I don't completely hate that game. I just wish it was better than what we got. What sucks even more about Forces is that Mania is the appetizer of that game.

Despite how hated the game is, to me personally but I believe I lot of people will agree with me on this, the soundtracks will always be stellar. The soundtrack to Forces, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Colors are some of my favourite soundtracks to video games, ever.
I don't think Forces is the most hated, pretty sure that title goes to Sonic Blast, Rise of Lyric or maybe even Chronicles.

The gun gameplay in Shadow actually works well. The only issue in that game was the missions structure where you have to kill/destroy everything which made stages really drag. One thing is really stupid is Shadow riding vehicles when he already runs faster than them.
The only stages where it really "drags" are Westopolis, GUN Fortress and Black Comet. Every other mission is straightforward and easy to complete.
@AkameGaKillfan777 The stage that's in the past, on the ARK with Maria where you have to hunt for and kill all 35 Artificial Chaos' for the Hero Mission, Lost Impact, is one of the worst stages I have ever played in a Sonic game and this is coming from someone who likes Shadow the Hedgehog. The level is a giant maze that you are guaranteed to get lost in because most everything looks the same, takes a long time to go through, and god help you if you happen to miss any Artificial Chaos' and then have to go through the stage a second time.
I love Sonic Colors from a gameplay aspect but the thing I dislike about the game the most is the precedent it set for the series, in terms of its cutscenes, where the characters kind of just stand there flailing their arms, and the characterization of everyone/writing, and it didn't help that people saw this game a return to form for the franchise/character which led it going into that direction with the characters and writing, love the level design and gameplay though
I'm pretty sure the DS version didn't help at all since the Wii gets more attention.

I don't get why people randomly started hating Sonic CD since 2018, I can name multiple good things about the game and its level designs and It is indeed better than Sonic 1 tbh. I respect your opinion though

I've never thought Sonic Forces is even close to the worst. I think it's okay. I got it at launch, it was an alright 3 hour game, plus it wasn't close to a full price game so it didn't hurt that much. Being the best of the classic Sonic games, a lot of what made that game good outweighs the flaws so can we really say it's hated?

What would be considered "was hated the most", object a, which everyone hated, but changed their mind after a day, or object b, that only a few hated, but still do? Object a would at least deserve a mention.
Sonic CD is my second favorite Genesis Classic Sonic game. Probably nostalgia as I grew up with Taxman's remake on mobile

@@Mob-ov2fg I've seen that video before, and there's a lot of things that I agree and disagree with, with some arguments I just don't think were well thought out. If you ask me, a video that does a MUCH better job explaining the flaws of Sonic CD is the "Quickies Don't Cut It" video by Retropolis Zone. It's an hour long, but does an excellent job criticizing the game.

To be honest, I never really saw why people hated Sonic Forces this badly. I kind of always treated it as a guilty pleasure, I knew it was kind of mediocre, but I still really enjoy it as a game. Sad to see it get all this (partially undeserved) hate.

sonic 06 is my favourite game. The music, the bosses and the athmospere are just great in my opinion. It´s sad, that Sonic 06 was so rushed, but I will still enjoy it.

Every time I try to defend "Sonic Colors" strong points and look at the game for what it is and what it does right, I'm ALWAYS greeted by a bunch of 2000's era 3D Sonic snobs who think that Sonic was ONLY ever good in strictly 3D, and that story is the ONLY thing that should ever matter in a Sonic game, and who only care about ambition, regardless weither or not that ambition is executed correctly or not. I just feel like nowadays its illegal to defend "Sonic Colors" which always makes me die inside.
I don't tend to hate games very often. If I had to choose one out of the one's I've played then I'd choose forces. It ran fine enough (maybe except classic sonic sometimes) but to the levels were pretty short and story was kinda not to my liking. (Not that it needs a story but with what they gave us, yeah) Also that Sonic's running animation is not my favorite lolz I out of the ones on the list, I do enjoy 06 but just because I loved shadows and silvers stories. Also I didn't have a hard time playing it because I have a bit of a higher tolerance to gameplay since it's not the top thing for me in games. I personally also didn't come across too many bugs that ruined it for me.
As a old school fan, Sonic Spinball was and is my most hated Sonic game, BUT i still paid money for it and beat the game. its just the rage i felt doing that lasted 20 plus years LOL.
Can't wait for forces to get the unleashed treatment, just imagine looking back to all the forces hate 10 years from now and everyone changing their mind on the game.

I recently saw a video where they went through the Acts which were originally the main levels from a 2 Act structure, and the rest of the acts were gimmick levels. Because of that video I downloaded a save file and played the game with just those levels, and really enjoyed it. Beforehand I couldn't get past the first world before being frustrated and bored

The problem with Sonic CD is that people want to play it like it is a normal classic Sonic game, and in reality, it isn't.
Sonic CD is a pretty unique game in the series, with the mechanic of time travel being key in the exploration, in these larger and more vertical levels, compared to the other games.
People who play Sonic CD and hate it probably don't know the mechanics of the game very well, as a said, it isn't your typical classic Sonic game where you have to travel as fast as you can to the goal, in this one, the main objective is to make a good future in the levels by traveling to the past and breaking the robot generator capsules.
While you can beat the game being fast by grabbing the time stones, i'd say it's a lot tougher to do than breaking the individual generators in each act, cause this game has very few levels, and so very few chances of getting them, and the special stages could become pretty difficult at the first couple of playthroughs, but you will get used to it if you play them a lot, same with the more open level design, which could be confusing for some.
The problem with the time travel mechanic isn't that it makes the game different from the others. It's just that the game implements the mechanic in a really half baked way and asks for so much from the player with very little incentive to do so.
The game asks you to:
-Meander around the level design until you just happen to luckily stumble upon a past time post.
-Very carefully and slowly roam around even more with the time travel potential until you find a spot in the level design that allows you to run fast for a few seconds.
-Once you time travel to the past, you are left to search for and destroy just one random, puny, hard-to-find machine with NO indications as to where it could be. And keep in mind, Sonic CD's levels are HUGE and super condensed and cluttered!
-After destroying the machine, continue on your way and run to the goal post.
-Do all of that within a ten minute timer.
-Repeat the process for fourteen levels, with each level getting more clustered and convoluted as they go on.
-You can't fail a SINGLE time, otherwise you won't get the good future for the zone or a good ending for the game.
And reminder, if you start running with the time travel potential for too long and then slow down for a single frame, you automatically lose the time travel potential regardless if it was your fault or because of the game's level design. So now you need to roam around and find ANOTHER past time post and repeat the process all over again.
Frankly, absolutely nobody is going to pull all of this off on their first try without looking up a map of the levels or watching a walkthrough. You might argue that having to play through the game multiple times until you succeed allows for more replayability, and sure, I've played Sonic CD and have gotten the good future a few times myself and have gotten plenty of moments of enjoyment, but if the entire game made itself stand out from the classics with a brand new, super complex mechanic, just to barely even complement its core mechanic, then that's not good game design. Nobody would go for this kind of playthrough unless they're forced to, or unless they really, REALLY enjoy playing the game this way.
Sure, getting some new visuals and new music is a really neat reward for succeeding, but gameplay-wise, there's a very, very insignificant benefit to doing this playthrough. Time travel stops being a neat little gimmick and just becomes a hindrance to frustrate you. There's a reason why the time travel mechanic is constantly dubbed as "A good idea with awful execution".
I used to think it was Unleashed cuz of all the werehog rants but people actually like that game.
