The arbor knot works really well for attaching to the spool (arbor). Just google it and watch a video. I use that on everything over about 12 lb test. The lighter lines seem to not hold the knot very well, so I use a slip type knot.
This is a good video. We need more like this on youtube, the details of rigging, the equipment, line, etc. I never realized the importance until I watched the weekend warriors breaking off, filling the water with balls of line to get hung in and lose fish. Ive lost some nice blues and flatheads because they got tangled. Hope to see more videos like this in the future.
i fish this same set up and it works great. Do you ever wet your knots when you cinch them down. i dont know if it makes a difference or not but i have always been told that it makes a better knot.
If you have mono with a lot of memory in it, you can soak it in water for a few days and it will help tremendously… But make sure you take the label off the spool of line or the glue from the sticker might soak into the line. Thanks for the video, I’ve always just used a bead to protect the line but I like the idea of that rubber bump stop…
The slider sinker gives you quick access to attach/dis-attach your sinkers. The no roll sinker is better for suspend drifting, I think. I've had a no roll sinker fray my monofilament line, especially when casting it out.
I don’t know much about bait caster reels but just wondering is the one you mentioned in the video good for casting long distances off shore? Or is it for dropping off a boat and trolling?
I love your videos Chattanooga is my dad‘s hometown me and my father fished The Chickamauga dam. But I would spoil my fishing line different than the way you just did. But I love the videos
So is that technically a saltwater reel? I want to buy the Penn 209 Level Wind reel but I looked it up and it mostly seems like people use it in the ocean lol....but is it not smart to use a saltwater reel for cat fishing?
Should really put your spool into some kind of bowl or bucket with water covering it.it will keep the mono from getting hot spots in it.trick i learned a long time ago.but to each his own.good fishing either way.
First question are any of the products you featured in this sponsors of your channel several of the products I currently use or used in the past. Second if it wasn't for your channel I probably wouldn't have picked up on watching the other channels I watch today. Your rod and reel is different than mine never was a okuma guy and those rods are just TOO expensive for my budget. I went with the Lews laser XL LXLC60 Baitcaster you can blame Dieter Melhorn for that I've fished 2 of the Lews against a Catmaxx same price range . The Lews $70 out the door I couldn't afford the more top end rods I settled for a Diawa BEEFSTICK a 10ft and 12ft the Catmaxx combo came with a 10ft rod. I myself use a different main than slimline but my leader is big game brand like you said been around for yrs.I to like the rubber stops. I just have trouble finding them SO I got lots an lots of beads 😂I know you an CAP'N Panfish Bill don't want to hear this I'm JUST NOT an okuma fan the Lews bait clicker way louder than the Catmaxx and by what I tell louder than the okuma. Huge fan of your show you opened a new door for me on how to catfish Thank you I'm a bank fisherman my body can't take the wake impact on the boat. But MANY of the other channels owe you a Thank you. Because if it wasn't for your channel it was the free floating chicken below dam and you caught that huge Flathead I would have NEVER gotten interested in utube catfish channels. PEACE OUT 🐝😎🐟😎🎣😎🐟😎🐝
Hi Charlie! No, I'm not sponsored by anybody. I'm a firm believer in the products I'm using. I buy all of my gear! I love my Okuma reels, but everyone has their own preference, and that's fine too! The big thing is use what works for you! Glad my channel has helped you with your catfishing adventures. Tight lines and fish on!!
@@ChattCats to piggyback on that...is there ever a time when you use a smaller or larger size hook or basically use that 8/0 for most all your catfishing. We have mainly channels and flathead by us.
Those reels are solid workaholics. You can't beat it for the price. I also love bnm rods. But most of all I also love team catfish double action circle hooks. I actually bought them and switched to them this year cause I saw your videos on how you like them and other people also said they love them. They truly are double action, I love them because when my catfish is hooked he is usually very hooked. This hook always gets them in the corner of the mouth of threw the lip and it's always all the way pierced threw which is nice cause the fish isn't going any where when that happens. I have had some get dulled up fast but a couple passes threw my hook sharpener and it's good as new.
The Okuma Classic's are awesome reels! They look great paired with those BnM rods!
I agree!
I love the cadence to your voice. I try to emulate it when I am bored on the boat. Hehehehehehehehe!!
Lol. It must be music to your ears!
Great video joe appreciate you showing us how simple it is to get set up and ready to go fishing
Glad to help!

This has got to be the best video out
U got in detail and got straight to the point
Thanks man
Glad it helped.

Glad you got something out of it.
I’m getting this exact rod and reel sometime this month
Nice!
Thanks for sharing these tips with us Joe. Have a great Labor Day weekend. Stay Safe. Stay Healthy. God Bless!

@@ChattCats you’re welcome!
Awsome video .excellent description of how to feed your line and to rig up👍
Thanks 👍
Do you have any issues with birds nests on those larger casting reels?
Not really
I Also use shorter leaders always. Except the rare case when I use a Santee copper rig I'll use a 20 inch or 18 inch leader.
What's the advantage/disadvantages from using a slip slinker rig vs a no roll sinker?
The slider sinker gives you quick access to attach/dis-attach your sinkers. The no roll sinker is better for suspend drifting, I think. I've had a no roll sinker fray my monofilament line, especially when casting it out.
really enjoyed your video and choice of gear...
Thanks for watching!
Love it! Now if I could just learn to like re-spooling reels LMBO!!!
Do you think the guides would hold up to saltwater?
Yes.
I don’t know much about bait caster reels but just wondering is the one you mentioned in the video good for casting long distances off shore? Or is it for dropping off a boat and trolling?
It's better for short casting and trolling/drifting.
@@ChattCats do you think you can do a video on good baitcasters for casting big weight long distances??
Anything non level wind is good for distance

No, you can use it for fresh or saltwater. The reel is designed for big fish.
I just got this same setup but with the Okuma 450 La reel
Nice!
Love em, they kick big fish butt

It can, yes.
What is a good reel for left hand retrieve?
Good question. I will look into that...

I couldn't watch after you started reeling. Turn the clicker off, holy moly

Mono for the win!
