When I was a kid, our neighbour made candy apples, caramel ones, and popcorn balls to give out on Halloween. This was during the 70s. Thanks for the memories!
Yummy!! I used to love those popcorn balls
Yes, we would try to remember who made the best popcorn balls and get there first. Sad kids miss out on simple times.
wait how old are you?
I have a neighbor who continues to do this. I love popcorn balls.
I just made old fashioned steen’s popcorn balls last night. My son went to the fair today and couldn’t find candy apples. So I’m here now to surprise him with candy apples. I use to use the pre made stuff when he was a few years old. I haven’t made them in 10 years. I wanna try homemade ones now.
Thanks so much for watching!! I hope you liked this video.Check out my blog post for more tips and tricks on how to make delicious candy apples: sugargeekshow.com/recipe/the-best-candy-apple-recipe/
Hi Liz, thank you so much for this demonstration on how to make these delicious apples. Here in Australia, they are called 'toffee apples' and I used to buy them for my kids (and me) whenever there was a school fete or if I saw them for sale in the supermarket. I haven't seen them around for years. I am so grateful for you showing us how it is done. I will now be trying out your method for my grandchildren. Hugs from Melbourne.
we call them toffee apples too. And they're never flavoured really, even if they're very occasionally red.
That’s right!
Hello Liz, I watched your Caramel Apple video & this Candy Apple recipe, I washed and refrigerated my apples yesterday and today I'm making your Caramel Apples recipe! I'm so excited!😃Next I'm going to make theses Candy Apples. I wanted to commend you on your videos for being one of the ONLY UA-cam Chefs that actually addresses SAFETY prior to starting this project. Kitchen injuries are the most common household injuries and especially important when work with molten sugar. As an ex-military Safety Officer, I'd like to thank you for that! I wish more UA-camr Chefs would take a moment, like you did, and just alert the audience to potential safety risks. Most UA-camrs just jump right in to the recipe, without so much as a mention that sever burns can occur. Thank You Liz!
When you added the sparkle to the sugar I immediately thought, this is where the term "candy apple red" came from in reference to an awesome car color! :)
So pretty!! They were my favorite :D
Whoosh!
Hi Liz. I've made candied apples before but your recipe makes so much sense and clever! I LOVE the tip about using cinnamon hard candies and adding sparkle to it. GENIOUS!
Making these right now! Stirring in the cinnamon candy. Smells so good. Bday party tomorrow and the kids are going to love them
Excellent presentation. All the questions that I had about making candied apples was answered by you. Thank you.
As a member of Job’s Daughters and having the Masonic Hall across from a school, we had Candy Apple sales every October for two weeks.
Our moms worked so hard every day, making them and then supervising us during the sale. I had to watch! Brought back a lot of memories!🍏🍎

My MIL had a complete failure making candy apples using a kit. She made them ahead of time for a kids event and was absolutely heartbroken to find the candy coating had melted off even being wrapped up in a treat bag. I found your video in my search for an answer and you provided all the information of what might have happed and why. I love how informative your tutorial was and am now subscribed!
Thanks so much! Welcome to the sugar geek fam 🥰
Amazing video as always and I just made these and they were a HIT! Quick question about the leftover candy… how would you reheat this and not burn it? Thanks!
One Of My Favorite Food!
I gonna try
Yummmy has been years since I had a candy apple. Red candy apples my fav!
Wow so pretty look so delicious I love candy apples
Great tip about the wax! I would have been so confused and discouraged.
Can't wait for this video!
Yay! Hope you like it!
I used to love candy apples when I was a kid, but with crowns, fillings and bridges, those days are sadly long gone! They look beautiful though! Such a vibrant red and I love cinnamon!
FANTASTIC VIDEO!
Wow they turned out so pretty in color! 😍 I love candy apples, but not what is out today I grew up in the 70's and apple taffy's what we called them back then were different they had a hard crispy crunchy candy coating whereas today it's a sticky thick candy coating. I may try yours, because they look to have that crispy candy coating, may I ask where did you purchase your candy thermometer from? thank you, and great job!
Yum I love candy apples. I wish I could eat one right now.😁🤤
So yummy!!
"OK, 1908, You know what you're doin'!" 🤣🤣🤣 I just LOVED the black ones, and will most definitely be making these on Halloween 🎃🎃
Honey candied apples sound awesome.
Yum love this idea
I love the flash dust! Where did you purchase it? Oh, I'm new here. THANK YOU! 😊😊😊😊
I have no intention of making these but still watched from start to finish, including commercials to support ❤ I'd love to make caramel apples if you can do a video on that.
Thanks for watching! Yea, caramel apples are coming out beginning of October 😊
@@SugarGeekShow Can't wait, thanks Liz!
Wow how awesome .
Thank you.
Do you know how long you can cook the honey and agave to use?
delicious
Hi! I loved this tutorial and I’m about to get started. I was just wondering if I’d double the ingredients if I wanted to make 20 apples? They are very small. Or would this be enough?
I’m waiting 😊🙏🏼
Yummy
Awesome video 🥰👏👏 Very funny😂🤣
I think this fall I'll try this with Jolly Rancher cherry candies.
Hi! Thank you so much for your videos. Especially this one. I’ve tried many candy apple recipes and this one is the best I’ve found. My apples didn’t end up with bubbles and it didn’t harden too fast like other recipes. I was able to fill some candy molds and dip some extra fruits. I do have a question. Is there a more natural way of making the candy apples? I’m saying, without corn syrup, or dyes. And if so how long do they last? Is there a video on it?
Spartan or Macintosh apples is what was used back when I was young, they or red or golden delicious were basically the only apples available. Actually prefer them to any other.
I love candy apples! I showed My dentist and he said “don’t EVEN think about it!”
Hi what do you do with the Sager candy that is left over 😋 and what do you do with it like to know . Thank you 😊
I use lorann cinnamon oil Flavor. It's delicious and easy.
Cold apples - who knew?! Nice job.
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful ☺️
Hi. Can you tell me what kind of gloves do you use? Thank you. I love your content
The only candy apples I've had here in the UK have either been caramel covered, or they've been red sugar, like this, but with no real appreciable flavour. But then cinnamon isn't the same kind of popular "candy" flavour here as it is in the US. Aside from one or two things, I don't even remember seeing much cinnamon stuff over the years... just Big Red gum and some sort of "firecracker" gumballs. That's about it, though. When I realised you could get cinnamon toothpaste and mouth freshening strips, it blew my mind!
Can you use the cinnamon candies that you put on christmas cookies? the ones that look like little red balls? or does it have to be this kind? Also, are they spicy?
I like the sliced apple the best, more candy to apple ratio.
I really appreciate how you put safety in with your video, candy sugar can be hurtful and dangerous
I love this person😊😊😊😊💞💞💞
would it be easier to eat with the soft crack?
These look YUM! I’m going to have to try these!!
How much ingredients each?
Hello..From New Jersey 💜
Hello!
Good evening I am doing a sweet treat goodie bags for my wedding reception next June. I am in need of 320 candied apples. May I ask the amount of ingredients and if I can do this in a large pot? Thank you
I like cherry flavored candy apples. McCormick is by far the best food coloring
What brand of candy thermometer is that or if you don't mind tell me where it was purchased. I only ask because for us older cooks, the large print is a plus! 😄
So what works best If we have a corn allergy and a honey allergy? Would golden syrup do the job?
The dipping was my favorite part!!
Can’t wait to make these for Halloween 🎃
Mine too! Hope you love them :D
Growing up in the 50s there's only Cinnamon candy apples no cherry etc. You're the first young person who I've heard making cinnamon candy apples...yum🍎
Great. Videos y super fun and creative. However, I have a question about the Walmart red candy apples I love at Walmart. I like the soft texture as opposed to the break y teeth candy apples from the festivals. What is the trick to making them soft like the Walmart candy apples or are they treating the customers by making them Carmel candy apples and coving them w red food colors????
Do you refrigerate the apples when you’re done?
Is it rather easy to put sprinkles on them after dipping?
Can you coat popcorn balls in this or will the heat make them fall apart?
If we do it this way, if we pack it in airtight bags, how many days will it keep its freshness?
How much sugar, corn syrup and water
By chance do you know if this recipe would pork with fresh cherries? I went to a carnival once where someone was making what they called Ferrie candy and it was cinnamon-coated cherries. They tasted just like the cinnamon coating that is used for the apples but was cherried!
Hello Liz, I usually used a box mix. I tried to do it on my own and used a cherry jello. They were delicious but weren't as hard as they should have been. Should I have boiled longer or put less sugar? Since the jello was a powder
Old comment but jello will probably mess up your candy
when i make hard Candy and lollipops, instead of wasting all the sugar remaining in the pot when it's too set, i add loads of boiling water and tea bags to melt all that sugar and make sweet tea and then chill it to make sweet ice tea.
and instead of glucose you can add more sugar (0.75 of the amount of glucose since it's sweetness is 0.75 of sugar) and more water (the remaining 0.25 of the amount of glucose) and a flavourless acid (although citric acid will add a lemon flavour which is nice) to the sugar and the cooking process will invert the sugar.
great idea!
@@SugarGeekShow
just today i made strawberry/raspberry lollipops and my sugar pot looked exactly like yours.
imho the natural cinnamon specs in the candy are attractive and suggest an artisan approach . also using honey or dark honey instead of hfcs which is something I avoid.
Last year I made cherry candy apples 😋 so delicious but they had bubbles all over them. And the candy hardened before I finished dipping them. I want to try again with this recipe
Those sound delicious!
What kind of cherry candy?
Clove is the traditional seasoning. Corn syrup is also not traditionally In a candy apple.
Can I use isomalt instead of sugar?
Just a quick question..
what is the measurement of water as you have it in grams and oz… confused Brit here
They're impossible to find where I live. We only have caramel apples. So I made them myself! I don't understand why someone wouldn't want to use a candy thermometer. It's precise. It pretty much guarantees it will turn out. I actually avoid recipes that say "boil for X-number minutes".
Husband told me to guess I need buy a candy thermometer
What can i do to avoid bubbles on the surface of my dipped apple. Ive waited for the syrup bubbles to dissipate before dipping but i still get bubbles on the surface of the hardened candy more often than not.
