Being a old Marine .I don't wish to have to actually kill or seriously injury of someone especially when I can just defend myself and walk away from a situation. Leaving the person to think about doing whatever it was that caused them to take a few pepper balls to the head and chest. Sometimes yes a actual gun is required but not always. Killing a person is not always necessary when you can hit them.with a.few pepper balls and seriously give them a bad day. The objective is self-defense not to end a life. Sadly many people don't realize that.
Wow, you absolutely nailed it…you expressed what many of us believe, that we’d greatly prefer to “deter” an possible assailant (ex: while I’m car camping) vs killing/maiming another person. I’m ex-LE, and find the Byrna LE to be a wonderful less-lethal option that absolutely fit’s my objectives. Thank you for expressing this view in such an articulate manner!
Thank you for making the comment that "due to certain people's past they may not be able to own a firearm".... With that being said, the Byrna has given back the opportunity and the confidence to know they can defend themselves and their families to some measure; without breaking the law just to do so. It may seem odd the some, but knowing you have the ability to legally defend yourselves and not face prison time for doing just that, is a chance at life once again.
Thank you for this video. I am retired federal law enforcement and have carried through out my career and even then there is always the other side of were you in the right in the discharge of your firearm. I now carry a Byrna even though I have the experience and training in carry a firearm because at this time in my life I have to still consider after action consequences. I support people who choose to carry lethal and less-than lethal. But for me in this stage in my life I like the Byrna and it's flexibility but for me more importantly the after action consequences. Thanks again.
i have a Byrne and have had to use it twice , first against a drunk driver/road rage and against a rabid German Shepard both times it did the job. the cops said i was good to go NP
I for one am very glad a device like this is available to me. We camp and sometimes the locations are a little sketchy. We don't feel comfortable carrying a real gun with us, so this is the perfect alternative that we can use for protection. Haters will be haters.
Good job and nicely covered. I'd like to add, if you are a person easily provoked or looking to branish your weapon, then you will find yourself in a situation, either looking down the barrel of a gun or faced with a stand off. I've had my Byrna for a year. I keep it in my home and only care it when I leave my local area. If I did carry it daily, I would likely use it given the attitudes and "privileged" personality we see today. I we all were more respectful of one another and humble towards one another, then using either a Byrna or a gun would not be necessary.
Huge Byrna fan here, I purchased my first one way back before the fame. When my friends talk about the price I ask everyone of them how much is their life or their families life worth. You can pay $100 for a 50 caliber than will not do the job or you can buy what works It is just that damn simple.
Good video. As a tiny woman who is getting older, I prefer the Byrna. While I practice with my guns, at this point in my lift I feel I would not think twice about shooting the Byrna. I may think twice before shooting my gun and that gives a criminal a chance to do whatever they have in mind.
this guy is smart and from what i remember he has law enforcement history and possibly military history as well. he's not just some unexperienced pencil pusher who has sat behind a desk his whole career. he has legit experience of using lethal and non lethal force. yall would know that if u watched the other byrna videos of him. most of these questions except the last one seems to be out of ignorance.
Unless you made these comments into a learning session - No Need to respond to negative post - Ever! Ex LEO here, love my Byrna, been practicing my exchange time from Non-Lethal to my Lethal! Thanks for the Vids!
I purchased 2 Byrna SDs for relatives and one recently for myself. The rationale for using them is so good I recently sent a letter to our local sheriff about the police using them if firearms are not required. I would like to suggest that your statistics regarding encountering violence probably differ according to locale; for example if I lived in Chicago. New York City or California (in big cities) I would probably be far more concerned about the risk of encountering violence
You CAN get more kinetic power from it if you just consider bore sizing. There is a company that makes kinetic balls for .686 & .687 barrels. This will increase the velocity greatly in any stock barrel. I don't have one but I like how the company carries it's self. Very profesional & very grown-up. I will likely be taking the Guard Card class for Ca. for myself.
I own two (2) Byrna SD systems, one (1) for me and one (1) for the Missus! I was nearly physically assaulted by an irate stranger while working on the job last year. Although I deescalated the situation, having a Byrna with me back then would have been a comfort.
Great video 👍🏻👍🏻, great response to all the post you read. I always get crap on my videos as well for less lethal, but that's because people don't understand that 90% to 95% of the time a firearm is going to be deemed excessive force and will land you in jail. Don't get me wrong, a firearm is necessary to have for when needed and we have them as well but having multiple tools in the tool box is also necessary. And for folks that can't have firearms, something is better than nothing, it's called having a force multiplier. Not to mention in the state that I'm in you can't carry concealed or open in public, carry permits here are shall issue and really never given to citizens. So less lethal is what I carry here.
i LIVE IN nj. I have a pistol permit for my weapon of choice. With the US getting crazier everyday I felt we needed something better. If youve never killed then its all talk and bravado on your part. I spoke with my local PD and provided all the Byrna infa and web links. They called me the next day and bingo....100% legal, no permits required etc. If you are set on lethal force be sure to carry the right insurance. Youll probably need it. By Byrna lets we carry it, feel safe, be legal and protected. Thats all I need.
Well said. I live part time in NJ. I have the byrna and I purchased the pepper spray and the siren/strobe for my wife and teenager granddaughters. They always have them with them.
Thank you!! I am 65 when I was 29 I went to prison that involved violence from then to today I have lived life on life terms one day at a time!! I own a Byrna with pepper balls and hardballs and NO I am not going take this to a gun fight but!! I do believe if I shot that crazy in the upper chest neck or face I would have a chance to make a difference
Some people are really ignorant of the real-world facts concerning the use of deadly force. Sure, they all like to talk tough in forums or in the comment section of online videos but when it comes to using deadly force, what they don't know could change their life forever, and not for the better. I was part of a group of four certified firearm instructors who used to teach personal protection firearm classes, and of which one of the four was a lawyer. One of the things we always stressed in our classes was, that the one thing that they should avoid at all costs, whenever possible, is the taking of another person's life, because beside the emotional trauma that they will have to deal with for the rest of their life, is that attached to each bullet that leaves the muzzle of their firearm is a legal bill of at least $150,000 just for their legal defense. There are far more situations where a Byrna could resolve the issue than the other way around. Not too many states have "Stand Your Ground" laws, and most require you to retreat if possible. People need to think long and hard before they pull the trigger of a deadly firearm!
I like these responses. I like to carry both a firearm and my Byrna when it's possible. I like the option of not having to use my firearm if I don't have to. I do not want to kill anybody unless that's my only way to stop being attacked or killed.
I can't wait for a video where some one says "you know what now I wish I had used a Byrna because I wouldn't be going to prison now!" but some people will never understand using the correct/right amount of force for a given situation! I love having the choice of what to carry depending on where I'm going and what I'm going to do! let the haters hate!
I think your product make sense as the ammo actually has deterrence to attackers, but making the trigger pull force 50% lighter would be a huge improvement next revision.
Here in NO YORK its the only option for most. Even if you have a perfect background its near impossible to obtain conceal carry permit. It’s a shame that these are illegal in NYC. They just don’t want you to be able to defend yourself at all!
A couple complaints about your video... 1. To short. You certainly could have pointed out far more idiotic comments. 2. You're too nice to these people who obviously have never been in a serious flight or fight situation. I would love to see your "toy" against a paintballer 😂. That should be your next video. Great work guys and thank you for providing options.
Great info and not all states are so easy going on the use of deadly force even in your own home. My only concern or question is that you say carry it in any building, carry it anywhere, legal in all 50 states, conceal carry legal, etc, yet advise to check with your local law enforcement on their rules. Makes it confusing especially when law enforcement in my area do not reply to my inquiries. I’m a new owner of a Byrna LE and I love it. I even train/supervise my daughters to use and respect this as a real firearm should they choose to own either in the future. Anyhow, I’m in the city of Sacramento, Ca and what little info available on the web about my area and the Byrna is slim and outright confusing.
I agree with you. I ride my ebike 10 miles to work along a river bed trail. Lots of homeless people. I have my CCW and carry my Sig on my hip. But I also have a Byrna mounted to my bike for a less lethal response. I agree carry both!
Even if someone has a gun, and you hit them with a pepper ball, they will still be incompacitated. there is no way they will be able to see anything to shoot at you. And this will increase your chances to survive and get away. I don't care who you are. Those pepper balls suck. You cannot breathe, you cannot see. The only thing you can think about is catching your breath and the pain you're in .
EXTREMELY underrated and insightful comment! Too many tough guys out there that wanna point and laugh, but won't take 1-5 rounds of pepperballs to the face to properly simulate the way a defender would USE the Byrna. I have the t4e glock 17 replica from Umarex, and even the .43 pepperballs are no joke. Most bad guys won't even be expecting resistance, much less a face full of capsaicin powder. They are going to inhale a good amount of it in surprise before they realize whats going on, and then the rest of their affected biology will soon react to it as well. Science is real, folks. Respect it.
I wish they commented about the posts that I see a lot of stating that they have poor customer service. I’d love to own one of their products, but if the customer service is as bad as the reviews I’ve read then it seems not worth it.
@@jnl2131 awesome. Nice to hear. Think I noticed a lot of negative on Facebook groups. Kinda put me back a bit on buying, but nice to hear your feedback.
@@jnl2131 I’m trying to get my license to own an actual gun due to the world around us now a days. It would be nice to have something for the time being.
It is a choice. I'm glad this option is out there versus just my 9mm. I cross state lines all the the time and will not take the chance of being "caught" with my 9mm if not abiding by that state's law.
I love the Byrna but it would be nice if it had a mechanism to switch from pepper ball rounds to non paint ball rounds in a matter of seconds. Other than that keep up the great work 🙃
"due to certain people's past they may not be able to own a firearm" in other words if your past irresponsible behavior has prevented you from legally getting a firearm, we got you. wtf.
@@ghostdog2898 Hello I, work Private Security, there was a person who was committing commercial burglary and was acting violent approaching me in a threatening manner. One shot to the head disabled the individual immediately.
@@americandream2184 Hey thanks for sharing. Glad it worked out for you. Could I bother you for a bit more detail? Like did aggressor fall to ground, or was knocked unconscious? Also does your Byrna have the 12 gram adaptor? Thanks again.
I'm myopic. If my glasses come off I'lm in trouble. A Byrna is ideal. I'm assured won't kill someone in error. Also I move between states and I don't have to worry about permits. I carry mine in a fanny pack and in the small of my back.
I have a handgun which is loaded all the time. I would rather use my Byrna w with the gas and pepper spray than shooting someone with a bullet. I just ordered the Byrna rifle this morning and can't wait to get it.
You have a great product but need to do a better job with the availability of magazines for the Mission 4. Two magazine concept is smart. Not having the option to purchase additional magazines is unacceptable
yup well said, Id rather use non-lethals than using an actual firearm out in public, because I definitely dont want to pay alot of money for bail money, lawyer money, court money, etc. if i decide to use my actual firearm and put down the bad guy or be sued by the bad guy if he/she doesnt get put down immediately. Since I live in the state of Commie CA, and open carry is a no no and conceal carry is too hard to obtain, mind as well carry a non-lethal with me at all times, that way if the cops do come to a scene and they try to play dirty with me, I can just tell them that this is a non-lethal firearm and there is no law or rule in CA that you cannot open carry or conceal carry a non-lethal firearm that fires kinetic rounds or pepperball rounds.
Perhaps you can address this. I've considered purchasing one of your products but have seen little evidence that the pepper rounds are really effective. Most videos seem to show the volunteer victim coughing and perhaps grimacing a bit after being hit but certainly capable of continuing or initiating an assault. In general, I've seen more incapacitation from pepper spray.
Oh believe me, the max rounds very effective, I was a test subject for mine, not a good move by the way, I couldn't function for 30+ minutes due to the pepper/tear gas mix in that round. It really friggin works. Lol
Capable? Maybe. But the question is rarely "are they capable?" Like he said in the video, almost all perpetrators of assault or robbery will retreat the second they meet any kind of resistance.
Let’s be honest most of us never want to have to live with killing someone. Justified and 100% legal, ask anyone who has actually killed a person especially with a rifle how that image is in their mind. This is self defense protect myself and make the bad person go away. For most of us this measure of defense is best suited for.
I agree, they aren't saying to carry one over the other. Its simply an option. Considering that, this is a way of providing mercy to a would be attacker, in order to negate the necessary legalities that would come with that decision. It is all about options. Let's say its dark someone enters home. You go lethal and you have ever right as you should to protect your family. You see the intruder, You fire off two rounds killing them. You have successfully defended your family. What if, when you turn on the light or after the fact you find out they were 13 or 14? Kids do dumb shit, options are great!
Never used a Byrna but steel ball vs paintball is not gonna go down well for 'That's a paintball gun' People. If they do come out and video I want to watch too.
So, being prior army they teach you how to kill but before they teach you deescalation techniques. It’s one thing to say you could take a life it’s another to actually do it. I know plenty of operators who don’t discuss kills or combatants wounded. Real life/combat is not Call of duty. I bought one for my family the Byrna sd w/7 rnd mag. even though some in my family are traveling drs it’s better not taking a life if avoidable. It’s also great target practice to draw on squirrels because you don’t maim or kill them but if you can hit a squirrl with kinetic rounds you can hit a person
Unless you have very clear and complete video footage of the entire incident proving that your life was in imminent danger, you shoot someone in your home with a "real" firearm, you have a 1/100th percent chance you WON'T go to prison.
If you absolutely cannot have a firearm, "Byrna" might be a good option. However, if you can have a firearm, you are better off with the firearm. You may want to avoid being lethal by using "Byrna". But, your adversary may prefer being lethal with you! In fact, your adversary may confuse "Byrna" with a real firearm. That can get you into a lot of trouble. It is easy for the police to like "Byrna". Because, if "Byrna" fails, the police can always resort to using real guns!
I TOTALLY understand your respectful response BUT, I wouldn't waste my time entertaining the uneducated. If it isn't your cup of tea, leave it for another who may need & want it. Simple. Step into this officer's worn down shoes for 1 day on the beat as well. 👏 👏 👏 👏
Having done my research...I think youll find that most Byrna haters dropped out of third grade, have never had a real job, think its ok to marry sisters or cousins and think Milwaukee Light is a premium beer. Lol.
Too many liabilities with a real firearm. Especially in public. Kyle Rittenhouse had over a million dollar's in defense bills. The average Joe will not make bail or could afford proper legal defense. And if you are in a democratic city Goodluck.
Your Byrna launcher has a design flaw, Magazine balls can all jump out if you slightly bump the mag top, Make a 7 round mag with a better mag design with a stronger, more secure mag tops...Turn the C02 screw to a hand held turn system, without using a allen key....and add a velocity screw to pump up the volume ...yeah
Mission TPR in a compact version would be perfect, or atleast if they made mags for Byrna that don't allow ammo to fly out and the hand screw cartridge cap.
So….. i heard grimburg has a pistol … 3x more powerful. What is BYRNA going to do in response ??? You guys have the better design !!! All your missing is the power ?! ILL BE PUTTING MONEY ASIDE FOR THE ( BYRNA V2 ) 💎💪🏾🗣🔥🔥🎰🏠🏠🏠👀
Seriously though…. You guys have a way better design with the pull trigger to pierce the c02. All you need is power. Or can you guys collab ? Like a sneaker collaboration? Lol BYRNA X GRIMBURG LESS LETHEL COMPLETE PISTOL.
@RCHobbyGuy92 the pepper balls crack way too often anyway. Also the pepper balls might trap you in your own home & you can’t breathe. I’d much rather solid rounds. Use a BYRNA for pepper balls & the BYRNA V2 for solid rounds
What happens when you pull this out for self defense and the person your defending against pulls out an actual gun ? You never know rite ? Carry both is good advice if you know which your going to have to use ahead of time which most of us don’t .
I defend your product often. But let’s be real, I’m a huge pcp air rifle and co2 pellet gun guy. Owns LOTS of them and many are incredibly impressive. But at $400 this thing FEELS cheap compared to some of the $150 pellet pistols I have. It IS overpriced imho. But you get away with the pricing because the very small competition in this space. And that’s a fact. I’d feel it held more value if it came with the OWB holster instead a overly fancy storage case that is never used after it’s unpacked. I know you love your product presentation, but it adds no value to the product. The kit with the little sling bag is a better deal to me, but again… sling bag isn’t useful to the majority. Just some thoughts. If it was $300 I may own multiples. But at $400 I won’t buy it. I have pipe wrenches (use in my field of work), pellet guns, and knives that all together cost less than that plastic thing.
@@frank9962 Unfortunately… None of them. They just don’t have the energy to be effective. Pcp air rifles have more energy. Enough to kill. But nobody makes anything in a form factor that you could carry with you. But if your just wanting something for home, there are some options.

I agree with you. I ride my ebike 10 miles to work along a river bed trail. Lots of homeless people. I have my CCW and carry my Sig on my hip. But I also have a Byrna mounted to my bike for a less lethal response. I agree carry both!
I LIKE THE CONCEPT OF THIS ITEM WAS PLANNING TO BUY SOME OF YOUR STOCK AND THE PRODUCT BUT NOT SURE YOU ARE WHAT YOU SAY YOU ARE???
Absolutely right!
Respect it.
You can not please everyone !
Brilliant response to the meanies! now I want a Mission4 lol
I wish they commented about the posts that I see a lot of stating that they have poor customer service.
I’d love to own one of their products, but if the customer service is as bad as the reviews I’ve read then it seems not worth it.
Never had an issue with their product or customer service .... buy with confidence!
@@jnl2131 awesome. Nice to hear.
Think I noticed a lot of negative on Facebook groups. Kinda put me back a bit on buying, but nice to hear your feedback.
@@andrewd7860 You won't be disappointed .... I carry a CC 9 and a Byrna. Good options to have
@@jnl2131 I’m trying to get my license to own an actual gun due to the world around us now a days.
It would be nice to have something for the time being.
@@jnl2131 is the SD xl with the money or is the regular SD just fine?
It is a choice. I'm glad this option is out there versus just my 9mm. I cross state lines all the the time and will not take the chance of being "caught" with my 9mm if not abiding by that state's law.
The Byrna is half the cost of a handgun here in California.
how much money is it
how do I get one
Well! i have spent a few thousand on this, have and HD and and ex, but not alot of post of action or tests. POST MORE TESTS!
Love it!
I can’t wait to own this I need a couple!!!!
I love the Byrna but it would be nice if it had a mechanism to switch from pepper ball rounds to non paint ball rounds in a matter of seconds. Other than that keep up the great work 🙃
The goal is to stop the attack. This gives another good option for doing just that.
"due to certain people's past they may not be able to own a firearm" in other words if your past irresponsible behavior has prevented you from legally getting a firearm, we got you. wtf.
The Byrna SD Works. I'm writing from experience. In my opinion within 20 feet the person on the receiving end is in a world of hurt.
Can you share story? Or you let someone shoot you?
@@ghostdog2898 Hello I, work Private Security, there was a person who was committing commercial burglary and was acting violent approaching me in a threatening manner. One shot to the head disabled the individual immediately.
@@americandream2184 Hey thanks for sharing. Glad it worked out for you. Could I bother you for a bit more detail? Like did aggressor fall to ground, or was knocked unconscious? Also does your Byrna have the 12 gram adaptor? Thanks again.
@@americandream2184 seconding what ghost dog said, I’d love to hear more details too. What was the fall out ?
Not having the option to purchase additional magazines is unacceptable
your awesome!!
Starting to like this guy
yup well said, Id rather use non-lethals than using an actual firearm out in public, because I definitely dont want to pay alot of money for bail money, lawyer money, court money, etc. if i decide to use my actual firearm and put down the bad guy or be sued by the bad guy if he/she doesnt get put down immediately.
The Byrna max rounds fix that problem and are quite strong.
Oh believe me, the max rounds very effective, I was a test subject for mine, not a good move by the way, I couldn't function for 30+ minutes due to the pepper/tear gas mix in that round. It really friggin works. Lol
Capable? Maybe. But the question is rarely "are they capable?"
Like he said in the video, almost all perpetrators of assault or robbery will retreat the second they meet any kind of resistance.
Let’s be honest most of us never want to have to live with killing someone. Justified and 100% legal, ask anyone who has actually killed a person especially with a rifle how that image is in their mind. This is self defense protect myself and make the bad person go away. For most of us this measure of defense is best suited for.
I like it … keep more coming
Don't own one yet... probably will.
Is there any possibility that Byrna will begin shipping launchers to California?
Unless you have very clear and complete video footage of the entire incident proving that your life was in imminent danger, you shoot someone in your home with a "real" firearm, you have a 1/100th percent chance you WON'T go to prison.
I would so like to see that match between paintballers and your team sir
Need more Mean Posts Vids!
Having both as an option is such a looked over talking point. My girlfriend brings max rounds and I have hollow points.
Good stuff
Why use less than deadly force? How about jail time?
Surely this is illegal in California. I think t's illegal to defend yourself in any way here.
bet they'd all change their mind if they got hit with one of those
I TOTALLY understand your respectful response BUT, I wouldn't waste my time entertaining the uneducated.
Lol.
Berna you should be making tasers also
Too many liabilities with a real firearm.
Admittedly the mag design could and should be improved. I’ve had the same thing happen and it doesn’t take much to make fly outta the magazine.
You creating another meme :))
So….. i heard grimburg has a pistol … 3x more powerful.
@RCHobbyGuy92 I like the GRIMBURG GAVLE but I LOVE the BYRNA trigger puncture. IF YOU COMBINE THE 2!?! 🤯🤯 lol pepperballs also expire
@RCHobbyGuy92 ohhh….. didn’t know about the live x rounds. I’ll have to look into those ! Thanks !
WHY DON`T YOU HAVE SOME ONE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ???
What happens when you pull this out for self defense and the person your defending against pulls out an actual gun ? You never know rite ? Carry both is good advice if you know which your going to have to use ahead of time which most of us don’t .
I mean if you pull this out shoot it… empty the carriage, ask questions later.
Is there a particular pellet pistol you would recommend for self defense? TIA
@@frank9962 Unfortunately… None of them. They just don’t have the energy to be effective.
Pcp air rifles have more energy. Enough to kill. But nobody makes anything in a form factor that you could carry with you. But if your just wanting something for home, there are some options.
