last year nicki earned her first solo number 1 single with " super freaky girl "; this is a huge record because this is the first rap song by a female rapper to debut directly at number one on the chart since lauryn hill who did it 25 years ago.
i just wish nicki's vulnerable song were as popular with her other crossover hit like anaconda, super bass, chun li or starships...

Nicki wrote this song about her own experience. She was in a 10+ year relationship and they were about to get married. They were together even before the fame. This song was on her Pinkprint album (her most personal album). On that album she touches on alot of issues from love, infidelity, breakups, physical abuse, addiction, family issues, and there are also some fun lighthearted songs as well.
We had no idea how extremely talented this woman is. And in my honest opinion, some of the best music is written from painful experiences. 💗

Domestic violence is a daily and sometimes hourly call for service for a majority of police departments. Sadly I don’t think it’s getting better
Also I knew a girl who was at an Aerosmith concert and the band members (probably 40 y/o at the time) asked her to go backstage. She was probably 16 looking like she was 25. The bouncer said “is that your boyfriend” and she said “I don’t know who that is” and I felt this was very hurtful to this young man

Honestly as a die hard Nicki fan I don’t think people see the vulnerable side of her, she was in a abusive toxic relationship quite a while ago now with Meek Mill and when she came out and tried to speak on it no one believed her and everyone thought she was lying, but I love this reaction ❤️
Well that’s just the saddest thing I’ve heard! To go thru all that and not be believed is like reliving the trauma over and over again. 😭
people in the industry knew what was going on... the people who had a hard time to believe it was the general public for the meek mill situation... he was just too insecure for being with a sucessful woman so he was abusive to just overpower her... so this was very toxic..

I love the album (the pink print) the song was on because of course how good a lot of the songs are
but also because her album before that received a good amount of backlash since it was more of a pop focused album then rap focused
so I think she was pretty courageous for making her next album after that as vulnerable as she did with talking about her past relationships, her relationship with her mom (that she rekindled the following year) and speaking on the baby she almost had as a teen.
