Love these tours. Definitely worth being this long. I'd watch it even if you went through each and every one, and it ended up being an hour long video. Lol.
Haha, thanks Mike! I might just do a super long one sometime as quite a few people seemed to like this one :)
Nice to see your collection and add to my"want list". ALL your other videos are helpful and informative...keep it up 🙏
Wowwwwwww nice collection
YESSSS!!!! I gotta stop watching your videos, I keep adding stuff to my wish list but don't have the budget. Keep it up!!
Badass Matt! Lots of killer new stuff!!
I loved the video so Many different cultivars that I was unaware of . Hope to see more videos
Hi Matt what is your greenhouse temperature set at for your swamp cooler. I also have a greenhouse with flytraps and was wondering what the high temperature should be. Also do you water from the top or tray only? Thanks and I love your plants amazing!!
Thank you for the kind feedback!
Unfortunately, the greenhouse (hoop-house) in the video doesn't have a swamp cooler. So temperatures get super hot in summer. The flytraps hate it, so this year I moved my personal collection of flytraps to the greenhouse where I have the swamp cooler. It is set to kick on at 88°F. Anything around 90°F or cooler is ideal for flytraps in summer.
This year I left my personal collection of flytraps in the hoop-house (uncooled) until July and much of my collection suffered. Temps were well over 100°F (40°C) and flytraps do not grow well in temperatures that hot.
They look great! Glad to see all the variety you received from carnivoria, also the sarracenia really took off!! Just from the background of the video, it’s crazy!!
Yeah, the Sarracenia went crazy this year! You gotta come back sometime to visit and see all of your hard work paying off :)
Awesome collection Matt! Just when I think I have everything I want, you get some really good stuff! Definitely gonna add a few of these to the wish list. I saw that paleness on your BZ57. Definitely different than that beautiful Aurora Borealis specimen.
So cool to see! Thank you for sharing 🙏🏼
I wish this vid was even longer!
Haha, thank you!
Got to have an Arora Borealis!!!!!! Going to waiting for that one!!! 12 to 18 months??? Hopefully sooner!! I'll be watching!!!
Yeah, definitely within 18 months I'll have some to offer, probably less than 12 months! It's going good in TC right now but it's just a single culture at the moment. Gotta get it propagated and then hardened off. Hopefully by next spring or summer!!
How were you able to pot the vft in those specific type of pots? Are they glazed?
I'm guessing you're referring to the large round "mother" pots -- those are painted polyurethane foam pots. They aren't glazed but the foam is inert. They're great pots!!
@@MattMillerFlytrapStore nice! Where did you get yours?
@ayinwithnoyang I've had them for about 15 years and got them from a friend. They were manufactured by Southern Patio and I think they still make similar products.
Where did you get the white trays to hold the VFTs
Those are pizza dough-proofing trays and can be purchased at many online cooking supply stores.
@@MattMillerFlytrapStore thank you!
@@pocillipora no problem!
Thanks Matt! I LOVE looking at all those flytraps! I see you're back to using normal CP soil mix which I'm glad to see. I tried the LFSM on a few plants the past 2-3 years but I don't like it, such a PITA to remove during repotting season. They grow fine in it but no better than normal CP mix IMHO.
Yep, we are using peat now for the last 2 years but I might have to switch back to LFSM again. I was able to source high-quality peat moss in Oregon that is consistently low in minerals and has very little refuse in it. But I can't seem to find a source here. The peat I have been able to get is OK but I have had a few bad bales already and it sets the plants back a lot. Flytraps do grow faster in the LFSM but in this Missouri climate the difference is small. It was much more noticeable in Oregon. It is also much more time consuming to pot in LFSM so I'd really like to not go back to it but if I can't find good peat, I might have to. I could just rinse the peat a few times to flush minerals out but our water situation here is not good (tap water >300 ppm TDS) so I don't have the luxury of unlimited water.
@@MattMillerFlytrapStore WOW, 300 TDS??? Damn! Mine is typically around 125-135 so I can't use it. Luckily we get a lot of rain in the N.E. so I almost never run out. Bought a 20 cup Zero water pitcher for a backup system. They work very well.
@@Tommyr yeah, our tap water is about 330-350ppm. Almost all of the bedrock around here is limestone so it is super soluble and the ground water ends up with a lot of calcium and magnesium in it. We do have about 1500 gallons of rain storage right now but when it is hot and dry, the pitcher plants suck it down like crazy. Only lasts 3-4 days then I'm out and since we haven't been getting much rain, I have to run the 1000gpd RO unit, which wastes a ton of water. Not ideal.
We should get another 2500 gallon cistern up soon, which will help a lot. We would be at 4000 gallons of storage then and that might give us enough of a buffer to last between rain storms.
@@MattMillerFlytrapStore You've got some set up there! By the way, my AJ01 and "Naiomi" sarracenia are doing great so far! You and Leah's packaging is top notch!
@@Tommyr that's great to hear! I love that AJ01 leucophylla. One of the best leucos out there! And that Ntombi is a really awesome swaniana hybrid. It always catches my attention when I'm watering. So glad to hear you are enjoying yours! 😁
Great video . Do you have any websites that you would suggest to me for buying unique cultivars other than your website or California carnivores?
Do you have a store in Missouri?
Not yet but hopefully soon! We're in the process of getting permitted to build a large greenhouse that we hope to be able to open to the public a few times a year. Check back in 2023!
Where do I buy the first one, 'adentate'?? Please, I love it. Also, when does most of your online shop come back? Which month? Thanks
Not sure it's available in the US yet, but I do have it propagating now so we should have some ready by next year.
@@MattMillerFlytrapStore cool. Any idea on what you’ll price it at?
@@topazstuf Not 100% sure, but probably in the $60-$80 range to start with, depending on the size of the plant.
@@MattMillerFlytrapStore alright thanks for the head up. Hopefully I’ll buy something from you guys in the future
With many of your flytraps being specific cultivars have you ever had problems keeping seedlings out? I see that you let some of them flower. I ask because I let my b52s flower and I want to keep the seeds separate from the mother plants. Some of the seeds fell before I realized.
Seedlings germinating in the pots does happen from time to time but I'm pretty good about harvesting the seed quickly most of the time. And they grow so slowly that it is very easy to pick out any seedlings that germinate in the pots.
Those insects 🐜 had no idea they had entered a minefield when they flew into your greenhouse
It was really cool to see your collection. Love these tours. I just posted my unboxing of my first order from you. Feel free to comment if you watch it. In those big mother pots, do you drill holes in the back almost half way up to let excess water drain? I do that with large bogs but not sure if I need to with pots of that size. You see the ones I use in my video.
Thanks for doing the unboxing video!
There are holes in the bottom of those big mother popts.
@@MattMillerFlytrapStore Ok cool thanks for letting me know about the pots.
22:26 Aurora Borealis. At this time of day, at this time of year, localized entirely in your green house!
Haha!! Someone said the same thing on Instagram and I was too illiterate in pop culture to get the reference! Now I know though 😆
No fly zone? 😅
Quite sad, you only ship within US
Are you selling venus fly trap
