I was a metal guy in high school but her quirky presence and unique voice started me on a journey of exploring other genres of music. That first release is solid all the way through. Huge respect for Cyndi Lauper! Timeless hits with Girls just wanna have fun and Time after Time.
I'm also a metal dude (myspace deathcore was my era) but I always kinda appreciated her and others that had a kind of authentic interesting personality and unique approach. My favorite song from her is Sally's Pigeons.
I'm a Metal/Punk/Rap/Blues/Classic Rock/some Jazz, etc kinda guy 😂 I do really enjoy some Pop songs and am a sucker for catchy melodies (which is why I love Kurt Cobain and his amazing talent with creating some of the best melodic vocals and riffs ever in my opinion).
I do like Cyndi Lauper and she's the definition of being a true Punk rocker. Doing and looking exactly the way you want to and not giving a fuck what others think which everyone says they do but most people do care and even obsess over what others think but not Lauper!
Her song being on the Goonies soundtrack and being played on it is what first showed Cyndi Lauper to me. I was born in 84' so I'm a total 80's baby.
@CheapSushi "Myspace death core" is emo, not metal. Two totally different musics, fan bases, and lifestyles.
Time after time is timeless
Metal guys love saying they are metal guys. 😂Lol
She’s So Unusual was the very first cassette tape I bought. It was 1985 and I was 6 years old.
I saw Cyndi Lauper at House of Blue in Orlando around 2005 I think… I was 19. She did different renditions of her hits, her voice sounded great live and she was absolutely adorable, tiny and lots of energy.
That sounds amazing. I saw her 8 years earlier at the Jones Beach Amphitheater in Wantagh NY and she was also amazing. I absolutely adore our Cyndi. ❤
As a wrestling fan and music fan, I always remember wrestling legend, Captain Lou Albano, in the "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" music video.
RIP Paisano.
I remember the video lol shows my age
I absolutely loved WWF back then! All those wrestlers with their different personalities and wild outfits were like rockstars to me. I remember watching Captain Lou take credit for Cyndi’s career on Pipers Pit. 🤣🤘
@@BangBang-hk4rg Did Albano took credit in a condescending way? I think Lou was a good guy manager during the 80s.
@@kenterminateddq5311 No, his persona was that of a wild big guy managing the heels. We love to hate him, though. 😃
Always loved Cyndi! She was the first video I ever saw on MTV. Saw her in concert a few years ago and she was amazing!
I'm totally in awe of Cyndi's talent, voice, attitude, and style. The more I learn about her and listen to her music, the more awestruck I become ❤
Yeah she's absolutely amazing ❤
My quintessential '80s moment is dancing with my sister to "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" on her stereo. Cyndi is such a cute little pixie, even today at age 70. Pop stars were more wholesome and accessible then, and even my grandmother liked her, probably because her vibe was like a 1920s flapper girl brought into the 1980s. Even her story of rags to riches is like a silent movie era starlet. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you for covering our Queen.
Girls just wanna have fun was so fun and I remember it fondly from then and I'd never change the station now if it came on;)
Nope - I'd probably sing along at the top of my voice!!!💃
She is awesome and resilient ✨🤘
Thank you so much for doing this wonderful video on the wonderful, magical Cyndi. Before I became a Metalhead, I fell in love with Cyndi. "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" started it, "Time After Time" sealed it. I bought _She's So Unusual_ and fell in love with most of it.
"True Colors" is probably the best song she ever did. I fell in love with the song back when it came-out in 1986, 8 years before I did the same. I saw Cyndi in concert in 1997 at the Jones Beach Amphitheater in Wantagh NY. Her mother was there and joined Cyndi on stage and went with her throughout the crowd while Cyndi was singing "Hey Now (Girls Just Want To Have Fun)" which was not a version I really liked but I hold the memory special and dear to my heart.
As an out-and-proud gay man for very nearly the past 30 years, Cyndi's amazing, unflagging support for our community has been second to none. Her main ethos is to be yourself and have fun doing it, something that has helped me very much in my own life.
In short, Cyndi Lauper, besides being a great singer, is an amazing person. I love her always and forever. 🏳️🌈
1982 baby here, and I grew up with Cyndi! My mum was only 24 when she had me, so as a babe, the music blasted.
I like this guy, he tells stories (related to the music world) in the very nice version of american english. I don`t watch the video content, I just listen to this channel as a radio broadcast, while I work at office. THANK YOU!
Pro-wrestlers & kids hunting for pirate treasure - that's how you make a gold record.
I see what you did there…. your reference was, dare I say it… good enough.
NEVER SAY DIE!🤘
I was a teenager in the 80s, a bit of a different kid, so really connected with the cute, quirky, vulnerable and unique Cindy Lauper.
Thank you for the post! Cyndi Lauper was so 80s Love her! 👍🏻✌🏼😊
Glad you enjoyed it
@@rnrtruestories 👍🏻😊
I could listen to your voice all night long. So relaxing.
I agree . Very smooth…..😊
Great video. Cyndi is an inspiration. It's mad to think that people didn't think that Girls Just Wanna Have Fun was not a hit song.
It's incredible how you know how to create such an atmosphere of comfort and tranquility through the screen. Thank you for your talent! 🏡
Damn, at the 5:47 mark, I thought I was looking at Stevie Nicks and a young Bill Murray in that photo 🤣
She's the best. She swam against the tides. I just wish everything will be well for her.
Thanks for telling her story! I adore her, she's unique amazing awesome human being and on stage is a living vulcano💥🔥😍
cyndi is still amazing and so talented!
Time After Time is the most romantic song ever. Fight me.
Have you heard 'Wichita Lineman' by Glenn Campbell? Listen, then fight me!!!😂
@@micheleparker3780 You can't duet that with a hot girl at Karaoke tho.
"careful with that axe, Eugene"
Time after Time is such a great song that jazz Great Miles Davis did a version of it.
I don't know really anything about cyndi but her song girls just want to have fun was a massive hit hear in the UK and it was played everywhere and I think it was in the charts for a long time.
Long story short: Don’t ever give up! You’re time will soon come!
Great video on the fabulous Cyndi Lauper! All the info is 100% accurate except her birthdate is June 22 not June 20th.
I remember hearing her for the first time on The Goonies. I always go back to then when I hear that song. Even though I can’t remember the name of it. 😂
She bop has always been my favorite lauper song even tho it took me 30 years to find out what she was singing and 😂🤣🤘
Very Good - loved it!!!❤
Maybe it’s the Gen X in me, but Cyndi Lauper kicks ass….. and I’m a full on rocker metalhead
Adore Cyndi
My:fave Cyndi song was of course Time after Time” she’s got a lovely voice. I remember watching her in my 20s on MTV . Plus Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. Sorry she’d had it so rough at the beginning……..but she’s the prize fighter too! Love you Cyndi brought many happy times to me with your songs. Lyrically I can remember some? Hey it was the 1980s!🔥😜😎😎🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃
Queen!
I loved She's So Unusual as a little kid. Thanks for covering her ❤
Great video
.. as always 🔥
I agree even as metal guy she was appealing, plus Goonies, and the old rock and wrestling back in the 80’s.
I've had a mad crush on her since the early 80s.
Yeah she's always been hot 🥵🥵🥵
Interesting story. Didn't know she almost lost her voice before her career started.
She needs to be in the rock n roll hall of fame. And the wwe hall of fame.
Cyndi was my total idol when i was a kid... i still adore her
4:17 was that DIO getting off Cyndi's bus
It's fitting that she's pictured next to Lady Gaga in that segment.
Neither are my type of music but I respect them both as artists.
The '80s were the greatest decade for music bar none and that is a fact jack🤘🤘
Nope, that's an opinion. I could just as easily say the 90s were the best decade for music.
I love her so much....No mention of the bird poop?
Great video.
Cyndi was born 22nd June not 20th.
Love your vids man! Always look forward for them
Cyndi Lauper's ballads during around this era were some of the best... I find "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" on the one hand catchy but also annoying... she was too old to be kinda that bratty. One thing that fascinated me was her involvement in singing back-up vocals for wrestling themes for the WWF then.
Very interesting video. I didn't know any of this before but I've always loved her songs , persona and her unique style. I love her even more now so thanks for that.
You’re welcome
Anyone that could *fake* judo & karate enough to teach it is...A1#1, a g.o.a.t.
She was really the good in vibes
B4 my time but good for her.She was bullied, then laughed all the way to the bank.
Wow, this is new, you usually cover rock and metal musicians only.
Hope you enjoy it. Trying to branch out and cover some other decades like 80s and 2000s more
Money changes everything 💔
Twas a good unn..hanx.
❤
WTF moment at 2:55
Do one on nomeansno
I would not really believe she is home less
Lauper didn't change the lyrics to "Girls..." other than changing the 1st person from male to female. So, when she says she changed it to a "feminist angle", that doesn't actually have anything behind it.
It's a complete change in tone from the original in which he's saying as a negative thing.
Change of Heart is a banger!! Love me some Cyndi Lauper.
As always, another great video my friend.
At 6:30. Nobody played these guitars in 1979. So why a close up on one?
It’s stock footage chill out
I like some of her songs, but I wouldn't want to be stuck in a lift with her.
She was in penthouse or playboy but wasent she?
To get a zero in art class means she didn't even turn anything in. It's impossible to get a zero if you're turning in assignments, even one assignment. Even if the art is terrible to most people, the teacher would still have to give her a grade and it wouldn't be zero.
Do a face reveal.
That’s the issue with Roman Catholicism it is Godless.
Did you say she caught her father spying in her in the bathtub? Jesus, man.
good video, but i really kinda like her less after learning more. shes not a one hit wonder, but she just rally didnt have a great long career. she also seems to complain way too much about everyone, and comes across as a diva.. not a fan
Loved Cyndi back in the day! Yes, girl power, she was a great uplift to women everywhere, no matter what we looked like or how old we were. I 2as in high school at the time. I used to shout girls just wanna have fun & money changes everything at the tip of my lungs. 💜🩷💜
Cyndi Lauper pretty much faded into irrelevance once the 1980s were over.
Her gimmick wasn’t able to adapt to the 90s is all.
Are you kidding
@@waverlyking6045 that is a bit of an overgeneralization
@@waverlyking6045 Madonna seem to have no issues. Even had some top hit songs in late 90s.
Now she's just morally bankrupt........
I was a huge fan as a kid. In 2008 (I think) I paid for a meet and greet and was disappointed. She was also incredibly rude to her band on stage. She didn’t appear to be the happy go lucky, zany person I had envisioned. If you’re going to charge for a meet and greet, best try and pretend to be into it. Her show and voice were great, but the bitching at the band was a turn off.
It's disappointing to hear that she got a terrible picture of Christianity that even angers me, as a Christian of 20 years, and associated this with God. What a danger our lifestyle can do to those around us.
I really really like her and the music but her alliance with the WWF and professional wrestling really made her look ridiculous. I’m sorry. Using her fame to boost the power of professional wrestling was a terrible professional decision.
I still play her to this day. Great video.
I might be in the minority, but i don't get the appeal of cyndi Lauper.
Have you ever watched her movie Vibes? It’s good and funny lol
Did You Grow up in the 80s during this Music scene?May Be that could be a Reason. But Its What's You Like to Listen, with your Choices!Take care, now!
Everyone has an audience.
I always thought she had a better voice and hotter and more gorgeous than Madonna.
Were you alive during her time?
What a mess!! Not you true stories, but Cyndi.
Appears to be a strong person, but definitely not anywhere near a singer, musician, or entertainer.
I had the biggest crush on her as a little kid 😂😂😂 thought she was awesome
Singging?
The best song she ever did was the theme for Pee-wee's Playhouse.
"being of mixed German and sssssss heritage"... Can somebody decipher, please?
Sicilian
@@rnrtruestories Haha thanks!
