Happy channel anniversary! Keep up the amazing work! I'm so glad I stumbled onto your channel by accident! You make things so digestible and quickly shove information into our brains I feel like I'm actually catching up on all the comic stuff I've missed without having to watch hours of content! I'd honestly love to see you do a short on how The Punisher compares and contrasts to Red Hood.
To be fair the problem can go a lot higher than every day police officers. They can do their job and arrest the worst criminals in the world, but when corrupt, or even naive judges just give them a slap on the wrist and let them go for them to go and do more horrendous things you can't blame the police officer in that scenario. Wanting justice to be done while those with the power to make those decisions just let terrible things happen it's enough to become disillusioned with the justice system and to support a figure like Frank Castle who does what he deems necessary regardless of how it's viewed legally and the consequences he would face as a result on acting upon his desires for justice.
Batman is the best role model to handle bad guys, flash is the best to handle broken ppl. DC is sometimes better than Marvel, and sometimes Marvel is better.
@@johanebrown1764 The Punisher said that to the cops. Captain America is his role model, he didn't even fight back when Cap beat him up, and so he told the cops that they should look up to Cap instead. It's not just because they're in the Marvel universe, it's because Cap is specifically his idol.
One of my favorite facts about the Punisher is that he looked up to Captain America when HE was serving overseas but when he finally got to meet him Cap proceeded to absolutely lay INTO him, chewing him out, saying how Frank was an absolute slap in the face to everything Cap stood for. Steve proceeds to beat the shit out of him and when he asks Punisher to fight back, Frank is just so emotionally destroyed that he replies "Not against you" because he can't bring himself to fight against someone he knows stands for True Justice. Real humbling moment for Punisher, which I assume this is at least somewhat of a nod to. EDIT: To give some context to this interaction, it happens during Civil War issue 7. Punisher asks to join Captain America's side & Steve reluctantly agrees to allow him to help despite how he personally hates Frank's brand of "justice". Later, some former villains show up to Cap's secret base hoping to join The Cause & The Punisher sees them, proceeds to go "Fuck no" & murders them. Cap arrives later & discovers what Frank did which causes him to flip out & beat Punisher to a pulp, all the while asking him to fight back if he was really convinced that he was in the right for killing them. However, Frank knew deep down that he was wrong & that Steve was right to hate him, so he responds "Not Against You" as a way of conceding "Yeah, if I'm on the other side of an argument with YOU, my literal Hero, then I'm a piece of shit & I deserve this".
No, but thats never stopped people from trying before. Cap was, is, Frank Castle's hero. And Frank Castle has been dead a very long time. @artursales259
@@artursales259He's supposedly one of the best hand to hand combatants in the universe. Like around Daredevil/Elektra level. It'd be a pretty tough fight, but Cap would win. I think its said that he's versed in every type of martial art.
And he told them to look up to Captain America, who Frank himself idolizes. It's one of the best things they keep semi-consistent with Frank, is his absolute respect for Cap. Where, in one comic, Cap himself came to take Frank in, and where Frank DESTROYED everyone else who came at him at the same time, he refused to even throw a punch at Captain America.
The Punisher is an even more distilled version of the power fantasy: he's our desire to see the worst in humanity getting what's coming to them. More than a few of us imagine taking matters into our own hands when we read or hear about some human waste committing horrible acts. The Punisher is that desire made manifest.

In a context that barbarism is the only option (the institutions does not do their job anymore or are straight up corrupt), being a barbarian to the aggressors are not being evil. In a society that crimes are low, the aggressors answer for their crimes and no one is above the law (as much as possible) a punisher will not, and dont need to exist even. Castle is a anti hero, this trend of putting him as a villan or a bad guy is just propaganda against anti state sentiment and individualism, Castle is a batman that kills how could he not be a anti hero?
My favorite moment of Jon Bernthals Punisher was when he was in that store trying to buy guns and everything. Extorting extra hush hush money on the guy giving him service. Only for the asshole to get greedy and was trying to convince Frank to buy more stuff despite him clearly walking away and no longer needing service. Then the guy reveals “I got exclusive tapes. One called she’s only 12” (or something to that effect) only for Frank to pause and realize “Oh a pedo? Welp… guess he’s gotta die”. Bro locked the doors, turned the sign from open to closed, slowly walked back, grabbed a bat causing dude to realize his brains were about to be bashed in then Frank swings as the scene cuts lol. Meaning he got all his equipment AND a money back guarantee.
You’re over-simplifying that scene. First of all you’re making the narrative that Frank is just looking for some type of justification for killing by saying “oh a pedo? well….guess he’s gotta to die”. When in reality the only reason he was killing criminals and people like that guy giving him service was for revenge. That’s the whole reason he was in NYC in first place to kill the Irish mafia because of their involvement in his family’s murder. And that pawn shop owner was already a criminal to begin with Punisher only killed him because he was trying to sell him a CP tape titled “She’s barely 12” which is around the same age his daughter was. Jon Bernthals Punisher isn’t a villain like in the comics he’s actually a good person who only kills people who deserve it like that pawn shop owner.
The one thing I have to disagree with is the notion that the Punisher is a Villain. There are many Killer-Vigilantes who try to do what the Punisher does and nearly all of them fail because they end up killing or attempting to kill individuals who are innocent. The Punisher goes out of his way to avoid civilian casualties. A perfect example is in the story arc "The Slavers" in which he attempts to take down a group of Slave Traffickers. In one scene, he realizes that going in guns blazing would result in the captive girls potentially getting killed in the crossfire. So, he drugs the soup, knocking out everyone, allowing him to gather girls in one safe location and kill the Slave Traffickers at his leisure. And then he called a social worker to take the girls somewhere safe. Many heroes are nowhere near as careful. In addition, there have only been a few times where The Punisher nearly killed an innocent, and every time he nearly committed suicide because he holds himself accountable to his own rules. Fortunately every time, those innocents either survived or were revealed to have been killed by someone else. He's not a good guy but he is definitely not a Villain. He is only a Villain to other Villains
The Punisher is an anti-villain within his mind. He is literally playing looter shooters. The Punisher is self-aware of his own actions. and despises those with authority who idolize and praise him.
I agree, that's why (despite Marvel doing everything they can to tarnish him) the Punisher is one of my favorite superheroes, he's just a guy with a gun, but he does everything he can to protect the innocent and ensures the bad guys wont hurt anyone ever again.
I would disagree. Frank Castle is a very broken man psychologically speaking. The main reason why he wages war against criminals is because they killed his family. It’s not done out of a sense of morality. Theoretically if some other group were to have killed his family (whether it be cops, doctors, etc), Punisher would definitely be going after them instead of criminals
I think it’s ironic how cops Irl use the punisher logo and not Batman, the character who actively works with cops to stop violent criminals. It shows that the cops who use that logo either don’t understand Punisher as a character or are glamorizing killing people.
Considering Batman's main weapon is FEAR...idk if that's anymore of a good look than rocking the Punisher emblem. If anything, heroes like Superman and Spider-Man are frankly better role models.

@@nojusticenetwork9309 Batman is the perfect cop. Solves crimes, and solves high risk situations without killing anyone. Sure, he goes a bit too hard on the intimidation factor, but in the end he does police work better than the police.
@@GrullaMustang16 An acorn fell on a cop's squad car a month or so ago. The officer thought it was a gunshot (he had someone restrained in the back) and proceeded to bolt out of the car, flopping onto the ground. He mag-dumped the back of the vehicle (thankfully the frame was thick enough to protect the dude in the back), crawling away to a family's driveway as though he had been shot in the spine. While he was crawling over, he radioed for backup and, once he was able to, crawled behind the family's vehicle. Once he was there, he yelled at the family to stay in their house while going back to mag-dumping his squad car. The children of the (iirc, black) family were audibly freaking out, as in the footage that's been released of the event, you could hear them screaming in terror. The officer who started the whole thing eventually realized what actually happened, and you could practically the cogs turning in his head as he realized just how _monumentally_ he had messed up.

In a different comic from 2001 written by Garth Ennis there is a group called the vigilante squad. Each member killed who they thought were bad people. They expected Punisher to lead them, but when Punisher met them at the end he called one a lunatic, another a nazi, and then told the third about the innocents he actually ended up killing before murdering them himself.
Reminds me of Magnum Force. Harry Callahan does what he does against the book, but he still abides by the code of being a police officer. Then there were those three or four other cops who were going around San Francisco killing all the major criminals that were constantly getting away with their crimes. One of the cops got sacrificed in a shootout, and the other three confronted Harry later on about how hard it is to convict a cop for doing what they do. They eventually gave him the ultimatum, "You're either with us or against us," to which he replied, "I think you have misjudged me." I think they, along with their captain, expected Harry to see from their point of view and help lead them into cleaning up the city their way. As much as Harry hates the system, until someone comes up with a solution that makes sense, he chooses to stick with it (as quoted by him). In the end, he killed all three plus their captain. It sounds pretty similar. To me, anyway.

The fact of killing "bad" people was never the punisher's motive, deep down Frank himself admits that he doesn't give a shit about it and that he only uses it as an excuse to lie to himself that he still has a purpose. Frank can kill people who deserve it but when he is done he simply looks for someone else because Frank hates the world and hates himself, if for some reason or miracle he could kill every evil person he would shoot himself afterwards. Frank kills "bad" people so he doesn't feel bad about being a homicidal psychopath.
As a police officer for a many many years, who is now a supervisor I totally get Frank Castle point. He’s not a good man. He’s not a nice guy. He’s an honorable man, but he’s not a nice guy and if you took an oath to uphold, you, hold it to the best of your ability even when you’re at the lowest.
It's worth noting that Punisher is _tolerated,_ he's barely respected. And that's the _best_ case scenario. At the end of the day though, Frank is pitied. He went through so much, and what he does is the only way for him to really let out his grief. And unlike guys like Spider-Man and Hulk, who took their pain and did something constructive with it, Frank decided to be destructive. It's what makes Punisher a real tragedy.
People need to realize that Punisher Max is not the default version of Frank. Mainline Frank is actually a bit more well adjusted and willing to let some criminals off the hook.
@@sr.favopossodeixarvaziosim4595 I remember I saw a parody comic that has it where Punisher, Spiderman and another hero(can’t remember) are interrogating a criminal and Punisher just shoots the guy point blank and spiderman and the other hero are like “what was that?!” Punisher: He uhhhhh….illegally downloaded mp3s…. Spiderman then just takes a step back.
He was a villain because he was tricked by the Jackal ( Miles Warren) into targeting Spider-Man. Jackal had convinced Frank that Spider -Man was a threat and a villain himself. Do some research instead of putting out uncontested one liners.

@@Robert-rw5lm Prosecutors work _with_ the cops, you're thinking of defense attorneys. Plus, a lot of the cops that like to use that symbol, seem to treat police as a perk of the job, rather than a violation of human rights and dignity. Then there's also the sheer number that are card-carrying members of hate groups.

It’s a bit of a cop out (no pun intended) on the writers’ part. Punisher’s emblem is popular among cops and far-right because both groups’ true believers (that is, the non-grifters in the movement) believe society has devolved into lawlessness and requires a zero tolerance approach, similar to Punisher’s. It’s heart-wrenching to know that some punk who should’ve been locked up in a jail cell went on to victimize an innocent person trying to live their best life just because a shitty DA or weak judge decided to give the perp a slap on the wrist during an earlier arrest; it makes one lose faith in the system; that’s what Punishers is emblematic of. A loss of hope and faith in the system. And the system is *entirely* reliant on people having faith in it. At their core, cops *want* to enforce the law, protect their communities, and create a safe environment where people can flourish. It’s the crook-friendly justice system that lets criminals out on the streets and perpetuates lawlessness. Frank suffered from the effects of such a broken system; and countless real-life families have suffered even worse. So for Punisher’s writers to chastise people for idolizing someone like Frank, their attention should really be turned to the system that lets Frank’s methods make sense.

It's so billy badass's can have something else besides monster stickers, & on sub counciess level shows a elementary level understanding of the character & wish to be judge dredd. But police doing it opens a can of worms, accountability in the country has been a joke for so long, them boasting that logo of all things rings a different tune if ya a minority. In a shoot first ask questions later culture, Punishers logo hits different when you see it on people who are in love with violence on the real world. Half the time they dont know Frank's name, before the tv it was less than 1/3rd. Im a fan so not only are they repackaging punishers logo for aurotherian purposes, but can even have geek talk when under the boot lol
I know what you mean, irl met a guy who's fairly bad, didn't know how bad until I looked him up. He has over 50 felonies and the d.a. won't prosecute him because of his skin color and Germanic name. Sickening.

The punisher is not a bad guy. He is a NECESSARY evil. The world needs more people like him, as much as he hates to admit it. The punisher has always done the right thing. And the doing the right thing isn’t always doing the nice thing. Batman could learn a thing or two from him.
This is what people need to understand about The Punisher. I'm always reading comments of ppl saying one hero or another is Bad or w/e then state they should operate like The Punisher, It "Grinds my gears" to hear that (read that). So many ppl statements prove they have a very rudimentary understanding.
It's probably born from the same idea that our justice system can allow people who commit the worst crimes to walk away with a slap on the wrist, or nothing at all, especially due to bad arguments from the prosecution. It's not from the idea of "Grr, all criminals bad" but rather "Dang, some criminals aren't actually punished". This comic kind of misses that point. Or do you lot think Frank is fine with cops who let rapists (especially those whontarget kids) walk after a couple years of serving time?

Yes he kills your pedoS, Mob Bosses and henchmen, dirty cops, drug dealers, he also has killed lot of ppl were good ppl with no choice or options, superheroes as well unless you're Captain America or Rhodey War Machine you're not off the table, to a men involved in domestic abuse, he's killed litterers , and red light runner. Okay but to call the guy a “villian” seems a bit unfair, I mean I feel like too many people now a days have romanized the concept of an “Anti” hero. Frank is an Anti Hero, because as you noted in your video of Frank came and saw a person being mugged, he would shoot the mugger in the head. Thus helping the person who was being mugged. Of course this isn’t to say his methods are always great or even justified. But Frank is the embodiment of “Doing good but in a bad way” and I feel like not enough people talk about that. That’s what an anti hero has always been. Someone who does good but in the opposite way a stereotypical hero would. And lastly, say what you want about the punisher but rarely do people come across him and then go on to reoffend
I never liked the punisher, but I like this version of the character; he knows he isn't killing criminals because he wants to do the right thing, he just needs an outlet for his grief.
@@EmperorGuyverthere was a comic where ghost rider tries to use the penitence on the punisher but it doesn't work, solely because he never felt guilty for killing people. It's a old comic but it's what people use to say he's a "hero".

Here's the problem I have with calling Frank a villain. The fact that he is a former military soldier abandoned by the US government like every other veteran on the streets, and the laws and rights Frank fought to protect were used to denied him justice after his family was killed in front of him. Hell, in some of the Punisher's backstories his family dies directly because of a corruption, government conspiracy or a major fuck up. So tell me again how Frank is the villain, because he holds criminals responsible for their actions, when the government won't or flat out refuses to. The reason he doesn't want to be called a hero is because he has no remorse for his actions, he does not feel bad about taking out the scum of the earth, but he knows this which is why he tells people, if they want inspiration to do or be better, look to Captain America, a man Frank refuses to raise a fist against.
The punisher would shoot a guy in the head for breaking into an empty sandwich shop and stealing 400 bucks and a BLT. Frank has no interest in justice or holding anyone responsible. He just wants to hurt people who remind him of the people who hurt his family, that's why he's called the Punisher. You raise a valid point how the government has failed Frank as it fails many veterans but Frank almost never directs his anger at people in power who continue to fail veterans, he almosr never tries to uplift his fellow soldiers. He respects them of course but he didn't make his life's crusade about helping them. Frank is a villain and he knows it. He doesn't care about others too much, is happy to murder people who fit a specific criteria, and content with not doing much of anything to change the conditions of his fellow soldiers, and he has no interest in changing the conditions that create crime.

You also have to remember the situation going on during this story. Frank was going after Hydra. He shredded that symbol because he did not want those officers to be dragged down with him.
Correction * This is a retconn of the character. He has always held respect for cops, soldiers, and those who's job is to uphold order and help the world around them. Read his comics, don't just watch youtube.
@TheDarkAngel969 Yea I'm not a Marvel guy myself. That said, Punisher Armory is a great series where you trully see Castles inner thoughts and opinions.
He’s not against cops in this story, he’s disappointed that cops are acting like him. He wants the cops to save people, he wants the cops to be more like Captain America and less like him. Cops that try to be the Punisher end up being criminals themselves.
The person who needs to read comics is you he still respects cops he simply dislikes them prancing around idolizing him like he’s a hero or a good person when Frank really isn’t, his symbol isn’t something that people who take an oath to keep the peace and promote the law should have at all when it goes completely against the actions and character of Frank, the law failed him so he takes it into his own hands which is something cops should never do at all because it always ends in disaster
Technically he'd still be an anti-hero. He does the wrong thing for the right cause most of the time. I don't really follow his stories but he essentially does what Deadpool does but Deadpool knows he's killing imaginary people in a book while Frank sees them as actual people
That actually makes him an anti-villain, doing wrong things for the right reasons. Deadpool would be an example of an anti-Hero, someone who does good but for selfish reasons.

I think its funnier that people think the logo is popular because of the punisher. Don't get me wrong punisher is maybe a c class character. The reason why the punisher logo is because of chris kyle the american sniper used it. Given he was praised as the american hero especially during that time between 2008 and 2013 where america was heavily into Afghanistan and the death of bin laden and the logo meaning "righting of wrongs" at least according to other seals served with chris kyle. I love punisher comics from war journal to the outlandish punisher kill the marvel universe but to say that the logo only became popular because of him is ridiculous. Punisher was/is a c class comicbook character. He doesn't have his own rouge's gallery like other characters in fact hes more popular now mostly because of the introduction of cosmic ghost rider. In fact cosmic ghost rider aolo series sold more copies then when he bacame leader of the hand and all that trivial stuff that went with that. And I believe now theres a new punisher whos a shield agent? I haven't read that series. There were multiple factors on why the symbol became popular.
I mean he isn’t a straight up villain. He is a killer and even a murderer but he doesn’t kill the innocent. That is a foil for heroes and being an antihero, but that isn’t being a villain. At least not to everyone.

@@Chunkium he does go out of his way to save people. Even in his roughest iteration in the max series he puts his life on the line through dangerous hellish situations to save a single child. He only fights heroes but he murders villains. He has his lines is the point. He’s a broken man but he has so much mettle and spine that a broke Frank castle is a force to be reckoned with. It’s like he died when his family died at the park and his life right now is his prolonged requiem.
@@Chunkium joker has lines because it’s a game to him. He doesn’t really have moral limits because that was the point of the Batman who laughs. He’s forces people to cook their babies in a pot and eat the soup. Franks become a force of nature. I don’t call a tiger released in a prison a villain.

@@d11asian its really not theyre pretty similar when it comes to being an anti hero. They're both brutal when it comes to doing what they believe in. Only thing i can say separates the two is Jason Todd still has a soul and heart to still care about others as we seen from him multiple times after being revived by the lazarus pit where as frank castle will absolutely send you straight to hell with no remorse and wasnt revived by something that twists your very personality and mind into something psychotic with each revival like in ra al ghul case from his addiction to the lazarus pit and jason todd explaining the effects of lazarus pit on the mind

In Batman Arkham Knight we see Jason Todd as The Arkham Knight and he was brutal and willing to kill even Batman his own adoptive father just for standing in his way of protecting peace. Even as Red Hood Jason Todd was still pretty brutal due to the Lazarus pit making him slightly more prone to raging outburst and a worse temper. He even super heated his rubber bullets to the point of possible lethal casualty without thinking because he was still pretty brutal when he fights compared to Batman. In Gotham Knights we see how the Lazarus pit has affected Jason Todd's life as well as Jason himself explaining how dangerous it is and why it should be destroyed which Batman was revived through the Lazarus Pit and Damien Wayne was made lol. But seriously Jason Todd was just as brutal as frank castle if not slightly worse since he had literal military training and training from Batman who mastered every martial arts form that was still known and NOT lost to time. He even had his own group of people that he would use as an example and a really bad temper that would cause Batman to calm him down in their fight. Jason Todd is willing to kill anyone even if he doesn't have a reason to like them. Frank Castle is in the same boat as him to an extent though he was pushed into doing what he does where as Jason was Tortured by the joker, manipulated/reshaped mentally from the torture joker did to him, blown up few minutes before batman can save him, revived in the Lazarus Pit, fought batman to the death as Arkham Knight while batman wss still trying to save him. He's pretty much been thru it slightly more worse then Frank Castle when you think about it
The punisher has always been one of those characters I never really liked, because he always seems to understand that what he's doing is wrong but he continues to do it and is mad that people want to follow suit same as him. Like bro, you're the influence here. Negative emotions are so easy to tap into but so hard to tap out of.
Now remember that he is a fictional character so I am not encouraging sewer slide but if he recognises he has a negative impact in the world and is always miserable why doesn't he "punish" himself? He's a real sad existance.
Bingo! Frank abandonded the law as his path. Police officers swore an oath to uphold it. Following the Punisher means to turn in the badge and gun and get off the police force. I agree with Frank's viewpoint in this scene. Vigilante or Cop, don't cross the streams.

To be fair the problem can go a lot higher than every day police officers. They can do their job and arrest the worst criminals in the world, but when corrupt, or even naive judges just give them a slap on the wrist and let them go for them to go and do more horrendous things you can't blame the police officer in that scenario. Wanting justice to be done while those with the power to make those decisions just let terrible things happen it's enough to become disillusioned with the justice system and to support a figure like Frank Castle who does what he deems necessary regardless of how it's viewed legally and the consequences he would face as a result on acting upon his desires for justice.

One of my favorite facts about the Punisher is that he looked up to Captain America when HE was serving overseas but when he finally got to meet him Cap proceeded to absolutely lay INTO him, chewing him out, saying how Frank was an absolute slap in the face to everything Cap stood for. Steve proceeds to beat the shit out of him and when he asks Punisher to fight back, Frank is just so emotionally destroyed that he replies "Not against you" because he can't bring himself to fight against someone he knows stands for True Justice. Real humbling moment for Punisher, which I assume this is at least somewhat of a nod to.
EDIT: To give some context to this interaction, it happens during Civil War issue 7. Punisher asks to join Captain America's side & Steve reluctantly agrees to allow him to help despite how he personally hates Frank's brand of "justice". Later, some former villains show up to Cap's secret base hoping to join The Cause & The Punisher sees them, proceeds to go "Fuck no" & murders them. Cap arrives later & discovers what Frank did which causes him to flip out & beat Punisher to a pulp, all the while asking him to fight back if he was really convinced that he was in the right for killing them. However, Frank knew deep down that he was wrong & that Steve was right to hate him, so he responds "Not Against You" as a way of conceding "Yeah, if I'm on the other side of an argument with YOU, my literal Hero, then I'm a piece of shit & I deserve this".

It's one of the best things they keep semi-consistent with Frank, is his absolute respect for Cap. Where, in one comic, Cap himself came to take Frank in, and where Frank DESTROYED everyone else who came at him at the same time, he refused to even throw a punch at Captain America.

My favorite moment of Jon Bernthals Punisher was when he was in that store trying to buy guns and everything. Extorting extra hush hush money on the guy giving him service. Only for the asshole to get greedy and was trying to convince Frank to buy more stuff despite him clearly walking away and no longer needing service. Then the guy reveals “I got exclusive tapes. One called she’s only 12” (or something to that effect) only for Frank to pause and realize “Oh a pedo? Welp… guess he’s gotta die”. Bro locked the doors, turned the sign from open to closed, slowly walked back, grabbed a bat causing dude to realize his brains were about to be bashed in then Frank swings as the scene cuts lol. Meaning he got all his equipment AND a money back guarantee.
You’re over-simplifying that scene. First of all you’re making the narrative that Frank is just looking for some type of justification for killing by saying “oh a pedo? well….guess he’s gotta to die”. When in reality the only reason he was killing criminals and people like that guy giving him service was for revenge. That’s the whole reason he was in NYC in first place to kill the Irish mafia because of their involvement in his family’s murder. And that pawn shop owner was already a criminal to begin with Punisher only killed him because he was trying to sell him a CP tape titled “She’s barely 12” which is around the same age his daughter was. Jon Bernthals Punisher isn’t a villain like in the comics he’s actually a good person who only kills people who deserve it like that pawn shop owner.
The one thing I have to disagree with is the notion that the Punisher is a Villain.
There are many Killer-Vigilantes who try to do what the Punisher does and nearly all of them fail because they end up killing or attempting to kill individuals who are innocent.
The Punisher goes out of his way to avoid civilian casualties. A perfect example is in the story arc "The Slavers" in which he attempts to take down a group of Slave Traffickers. In one scene, he realizes that going in guns blazing would result in the captive girls potentially getting killed in the crossfire. So, he drugs the soup, knocking out everyone, allowing him to gather girls in one safe location and kill the Slave Traffickers at his leisure. And then he called a social worker to take the girls somewhere safe.
Many heroes are nowhere near as careful.
In addition, there have only been a few times where The Punisher nearly killed an innocent, and every time he nearly committed suicide because he holds himself accountable to his own rules. Fortunately every time, those innocents either survived or were revealed to have been killed by someone else.
He's not a good guy but he is definitely not a Villain.

I agree, that's why (despite Marvel doing everything they can to tarnish him) the Punisher is one of my favorite superheroes, he's just a guy with a gun, but he does everything he can to protect the innocent and ensures the bad guys wont hurt anyone ever again.
I would disagree. Frank Castle is a very broken man psychologically speaking. The main reason why he wages war against criminals is because they killed his family. It’s not done out of a sense of morality. Theoretically if some other group were to have killed his family (whether it be cops, doctors, etc), Punisher would definitely be going after them instead of criminals
I think it’s ironic how cops Irl use the punisher logo and not Batman, the character who actively works with cops to stop violent criminals. It shows that the cops who use that logo either don’t understand Punisher as a character or are glamorizing killing people.
Considering Batman's main weapon is FEAR...idk if that's anymore of a good look than rocking the Punisher emblem. If anything, heroes like Superman and Spider-Man are frankly better role models.

The officer thought it was a gunshot (he had someone restrained in the back) and proceeded to bolt out of the car, flopping onto the ground. He mag-dumped the back of the vehicle (thankfully the frame was thick enough to protect the dude in the back), crawling away to a family's driveway as though he had been shot in the spine. While he was crawling over, he radioed for backup and, once he was able to, crawled behind the family's vehicle. Once he was there, he yelled at the family to stay in their house while going back to mag-dumping his squad car. The children of the (iirc, black) family were audibly freaking out, as in the footage that's been released of the event, you could hear them screaming in terror. The officer who started the whole thing eventually realized what actually happened, and you could practically the cogs turning in his head as he realized just how _monumentally_ he had messed up.

In a different comic from 2001 written by Garth Ennis there is a group called the vigilante squad. Each member killed who they thought were bad people. They expected Punisher to lead them, but when Punisher met them at the end he called one a lunatic, another a nazi, and then told the third about the innocents he actually ended up killing before murdering them himself.

Harry Callahan does what he does against the book, but he still abides by the code of being a police officer.
Then there were those three or four other cops who were going around San Francisco killing all the major criminals that were constantly getting away with their crimes. One of the cops got sacrificed in a shootout, and the other three confronted Harry later on about how hard it is to convict a cop for doing what they do. They eventually gave him the ultimatum, "You're either with us or against us," to which he replied, "I think you have misjudged me." I think they, along with their captain, expected Harry to see from their point of view and help lead them into cleaning up the city their way. As much as Harry hates the system, until someone comes up with a solution that makes sense, he chooses to stick with it (as quoted by him).
In the end, he killed all three plus their captain.
It sounds pretty similar. To me, anyway.

As a police officer for a many many years, who is now a supervisor I totally get Frank Castle point. He’s not a good man. He’s not a nice guy. He’s an honorable man, but he’s not a nice guy and if you took an oath to uphold, you, hold it to the best of your ability even when you’re at the lowest.

It's worth noting that Punisher is _tolerated,_ he's barely respected. And that's the _best_ case scenario.
At the end of the day though, Frank is pitied. He went through so much, and what he does is the only way for him to really let out his grief. And unlike guys like Spider-Man and Hulk, who took their pain and did something constructive with it, Frank decided to be destructive.
It's what makes Punisher a real tragedy.
People need to realize that Punisher Max is not the default version of Frank. Mainline Frank is actually a bit more well adjusted and willing to let some criminals off the hook.

It’s a bit of a cop out (no pun intended) on the writers’ part. Punisher’s emblem is popular among cops and far-right because both groups’ true believers (that is, the non-grifters in the movement) believe society has devolved into lawlessness and requires a zero tolerance approach, similar to Punisher’s. It’s heart-wrenching to know that some punk who should’ve been locked up in a jail cell went on to victimize an innocent person trying to live their best life just because a shitty DA or weak judge decided to give the perp a slap on the wrist during an earlier arrest; it makes one lose faith in the system; that’s what Punishers is emblematic of. A loss of hope and faith in the system. And the system is *entirely* reliant on people having faith in it.
At their core, cops *want* to enforce the law, protect their communities, and create a safe environment where people can flourish. It’s the crook-friendly justice system that lets criminals out on the streets and perpetuates lawlessness. Frank suffered from the effects of such a broken system; and countless real-life families have suffered even worse.
So for Punisher’s writers to chastise people for idolizing someone like Frank, their attention should really be turned to the system that lets Frank’s methods make sense.

A lot of Punisher fans don't realize that, look at Punisher: War Zone. When he went on a rampage killing Jigsaws crew he killed an undercover agent.
Here's the problem I have with calling Frank a villain. The fact that he is a former military soldier abandoned by the US government like every other veteran on the streets, and the laws and rights Frank fought to protect were used to denied him justice after his family was killed in front of him. Hell, in some of the Punisher's backstories his family dies directly because of a corruption, government conspiracy or a major fuck up.
So tell me again how Frank is the villain, because he holds criminals responsible for their actions, when the government won't or flat out refuses to. The reason he doesn't want to be called a hero is because he has no remorse for his actions, he does not feel bad about taking out the scum of the earth, but he knows this which is why he tells people, if they want inspiration to do or be better, look to Captain America, a man Frank refuses to raise a fist against.
The punisher would shoot a guy in the head for breaking into an empty sandwich shop and stealing 400 bucks and a BLT. Frank has no interest in justice or holding anyone responsible. He just wants to hurt people who remind him of the people who hurt his family, that's why he's called the Punisher.
You raise a valid point how the government has failed Frank as it fails many veterans but Frank almost never directs his anger at people in power who continue to fail veterans, he almosr never tries to uplift his fellow soldiers. He respects them of course but he didn't make his life's crusade about helping them.
Frank is a villain and he knows it. He doesn't care about others too much, is happy to murder people who fit a specific criteria, and content with not doing much of anything to change the conditions of his fellow soldiers, and he has no interest in changing the conditions that create crime.

You also have to remember the situation going on during this story. Frank was going after Hydra. He shredded that symbol because he did not want those officers to be dragged down with him.

He’s not against cops in this story, he’s disappointed that cops are acting like him. He wants the cops to save people, he wants the cops to be more like Captain America and less like him. Cops that try to be the Punisher end up being criminals themselves.
The person who needs to read comics is you he still respects cops he simply dislikes them prancing around idolizing him like he’s a hero or a good person when Frank really isn’t, his symbol isn’t something that people who take an oath to keep the peace and promote the law should have at all when it goes completely against the actions and character of Frank, the law failed him so he takes it into his own hands which is something cops should never do at all because it always ends in disaster

Technically he'd still be an anti-hero. He does the wrong thing for the right cause most of the time. I don't really follow his stories but he essentially does what Deadpool does but Deadpool knows he's killing imaginary people in a book while Frank sees them as actual people

I think its funnier that people think the logo is popular because of the punisher. Don't get me wrong punisher is maybe a c class character. The reason why the punisher logo is because of chris kyle the american sniper used it. Given he was praised as the american hero especially during that time between 2008 and 2013 where america was heavily into Afghanistan and the death of bin laden and the logo meaning "righting of wrongs" at least according to other seals served with chris kyle. I love punisher comics from war journal to the outlandish punisher kill the marvel universe but to say that the logo only became popular because of him is ridiculous. Punisher was/is a c class comicbook character. He doesn't have his own rouge's gallery like other characters in fact hes more popular now mostly because of the introduction of cosmic ghost rider. In fact cosmic ghost rider aolo series sold more copies then when he bacame leader of the hand and all that trivial stuff that went with that. And I believe now theres a new punisher whos a shield agent? I haven't read that series. There were multiple factors on why the symbol became popular.

@@Chunkium he does go out of his way to save people. Even in his roughest iteration in the max series he puts his life on the line through dangerous hellish situations to save a single child. He only fights heroes but he murders villains. He has his lines is the point. He’s a broken man but he has so much mettle and spine that a broke Frank castle is a force to be reckoned with. It’s like he died when his family died at the park and his life right now is his prolonged requiem.

Only thing i can say separates the two is Jason Todd still has a soul and heart to still care about others as we seen from him multiple times after being revived by the lazarus pit where as frank castle will absolutely send you straight to hell with no remorse and wasnt revived by something that twists your very personality and mind into something psychotic with each revival like in ra al ghul case from his addiction to the lazarus pit and jason todd explaining the effects of lazarus pit on the mind

In Batman Arkham Knight we see Jason Todd as The Arkham Knight and he was brutal and willing to kill even Batman his own adoptive father just for standing in his way of protecting peace. Even as Red Hood Jason Todd was still pretty brutal due to the Lazarus pit making him slightly more prone to raging outburst and a worse temper. He even super heated his rubber bullets to the point of possible lethal casualty without thinking because he was still pretty brutal when he fights compared to Batman. In Gotham Knights we see how the Lazarus pit has affected Jason Todd's life as well as Jason himself explaining how dangerous it is and why it should be destroyed which Batman was revived through the Lazarus Pit and Damien Wayne was made lol. But seriously Jason Todd was just as brutal as frank castle if not slightly worse since he had literal military training and training from Batman who mastered every martial arts form that was still known and NOT lost to time. He even had his own group of people that he would use as an example and a really bad temper that would cause Batman to calm him down in their fight. Jason Todd is willing to kill anyone even if he doesn't have a reason to like them. Frank Castle is in the same boat as him to an extent though he was pushed into doing what he does where as Jason was Tortured by the joker, manipulated/reshaped mentally from the torture joker did to him, blown up few minutes before batman can save him, revived in the Lazarus Pit, fought batman to the death as Arkham Knight while batman wss still trying to save him. He's pretty much been thru it slightly more worse then Frank Castle when you think about it

The punisher has always been one of those characters I never really liked, because he always seems to understand that what he's doing is wrong but he continues to do it and is mad that people want to follow suit same as him. Like bro, you're the influence here. Negative emotions are so easy to tap into but so hard to tap out of.

Bingo! Frank abandonded the law as his path. Police officers swore an oath to uphold it. Following the Punisher means to turn in the badge and gun and get off the police force. I agree with Frank's viewpoint in this scene. Vigilante or Cop, don't cross the streams.
