Crowning king is better for fighting teams of 3 and the Romero is better against mostly teams of two or when you control a compound and can move about it freely to get to cover and flank
Quick tip for Romero usage: Try to get fanning or a fast-firing pistol with it, because otherwise, if you miss most of your pellets, you're dead meat if your opponent knows what they're doing. My favorite combo is Romero-Conversion, because it has the greatest fire rate and accuracy of any pistol, with decent damage to take down wounded targets. If I can't get fanning, I'll use an Officer instead, because it provides a significant amount of range over the Bornheim, and is much cheaper. It also has much more extra ammo, so it's better to have in drawn-out fire fights.
people overestimate uppercut, when romero/officer is a beast of a loadout, when is time to shotty is always better double up for short/medium range, if u take a fight over 40m with a uppercut u going to lose vs any rifle, u always better off sneak behind the enemies and kill em all with the shotty up close, people who always use uppercut they just love the gun,but honestly is one of the worse revolver in the game
Banana Ah man it’s not bad. It does consistently high damage at medium range, whereas other pistols will sometimes need three hits. Most pistols are better closer, but sometimes, you just need a pocket rifle. Whereas something like the officer needs three shots past something like 20 meters or something, if you hit the chest.
@@Digganob590 the pocket rifle is vs rifles like pushing a bounty with a short rival vs a 3 slot shotgun, u gonna get popped, u just dont take those fights
Banana Nah, you’re at a disadvantage, but you are in a lot of cases with a lot of different guns. You take a Vetterli? Your going to be worse off than if you had a Mosin... unless that extra ammo, reload, or fire rate become useful. You take a Romero? If you took a Specter, you’d have five times the shots... but you can kill people from further away. With the Uppercut, it has two advantages over rifles: one, it can be used with fanning, making it ok a my close combat. Two: It takes up a small spot, so you can put a shotgun there instead, allowing you to simultaneously fulfill two entire range niches with your load out. The great part of the pocket rifle is the fact it’s a goddamn *pocket rifle*. It’s not supposed to perform better than any other long ranged weapon, the fact that it *is* a long ranged weapon in and of itself is the impressive and useful part of it. Also, as I said, the fun part about Hunt is that you can win even with inferior equipment. That’s the reason why you don’t see only crown and king and avtomat wielding hunters winning, they still get blasted by nagants sometimes. Edit: Oh and also, within about 5 meters, it hardly matters that you have a hand cannon or a full shotgun, they’ll both insta kill either way ;)
It's hard to balance shotguns as they go from the brainless easy win weapon against inexperienced players that aren't paying attention to the thinking man's gun against experienced players that would never knowingly enter shotgun range where you actually need an extensive knowledge of tactics.
1:45 agreed. Thats why ambushing & baiting differ, if you down a guy with a shotgun his teammate wont approach without some help. Acting as if youre retreating immediately can achieve this

I have just found flashbombs to be very helpful when making a big push. If you blind the enemy with the flash and you rush in with a shotgun, the chances are high you just gun them down no problem.
Great video. I lean towards the Vandal w/ Repeater for shotgun loadouts (usually Romero-based) since it’s effectively indistinguishable from the full size Winnie to the enemy (i.e. hides the shotgun better). But 8 skill points for QM and Repeater could’ve been spent on, say, Lightfoot and Packmule instead. And the C&K doesn’t benefit from the Vandal’s spamability as much as the Romero does.
Shotguns are my favorite weapons to use, I usually go with the double barrel or the pump shotgun. My buddy I play with likes to use the long range rifles so we compliment each others play style well.
I usually run either Romero or the Spectre and then Rival. Crown and King i find is a but underwhelming when it comes down to 200 ping vs a guy that has 50 ping. Still solid advise given in this video. Romero can be used nicely if you shoot and then run and reload around cover like inside a building. Then it can be a scary weapon.
I've had a lot of success using my squadmates as bait while I wait in the bush with a shotgun. People never expect you to be in a bush; they always assume you'll be in the compound.
I love it when I play the crown and everyone says "Romero better hurr durr" but I don't recall wiping a trio or a pair of duos one right after the other with the romero, and with the crown it's as easy as wiping teams gets if you play your cards right. Seriously, on a good night anyone can wipe servers without breaking a sweat with that thing.
I also have less critical failures with the Romero, Rival and even Specter. Almost ever Crown game i have to put 2 or even 4 shots at optimal or shorter ranges. I'm also one that forces headshots so with a SG i aim chest/center mass. Crown is crap sorry.
Bro this game is the only game other than like, payday or battlefield that does shotguns justice by actually allowing them to hit and kill from a good range, especially the Romero, which is essentially a sport shotgun
Caldwell rival basically does the same as the crown if you have an issue reloading. You can use your rival as a makeshift Romero by landing two solid shots at a range.
Did you intentionally cross the river where you did? I noticed that just the other day there is no deep water in pretty much the exact line you ran.... River always feels like a risky cross, least now its not as slow
The Romero has got me thinking. I would love to see a Romero modified to be an elephant gun. A single cartridge and a low-or mid range scope. Although there are weapons like that in the game already, I think it would just be a pretty cool addition…
Its extremely powerful but if your enemy has a weapon that has a higher rate of fire, if you miss, you are dead unless they miss, you need to pump it after you shoot, it's very powerful but you have to be accurate
Play it like a romero with quick reload since the time between pumps is rarely short enough to just keep aiming at them should your first shot not kill them. Shoot and then sprint/wiggle around cover/dodge until you pumped and then shoot again.
It’s extremely unreliable. You’ll vary between instakilling enemies at ranges that seem to excel it’s stated maximum 12 m, or “arm shotting” enemies at point blank range multiple times without killing them, sometimes in the same game.
The Specter is underrated, but it's biggest weakness is psychological. While the fire rate of the crown lets you stay out in the open and lay down fire rapidly, and the romero conditions you to take cover and move after a shot while reloading, the fire rate of the specter makes you think you can just stay out and keep shooting, but in reality the down time leaves you far to exposed. If you play specter like a rapid reload romero it is great, if you play it like a crown and king it tends to get you killed.

I've heard that aiming through Iron sides does noting on shotguns, but I see U ads most of the time. Why is that? Just to get a little zoom or am I missing something?
It's about sensitivity for me, my ads sensitivity is set at a level I am comfortable using to aim, while my hipfire sensitivity is set much higher for surveying areas and turning rapidly. Aiming down sights with a shotty makes no mechanical difference, and there will be times where I just don't want to do it, like when I don't know where the enemies are while clearing a building.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Bait them into an ideal shotgun range, then flip the script on them. As far as the frags, It's been a desert for me. I haven't got nearly as many hit markers, or kills with it since the slight nerf to cover pen.
Idk, I'm trying shotguns too right now. Yes, they can be super powerful. But I rarely had a situation where they REALLY performed better than e.g. a Dolch would have done. You always have this uncertainty, that the enemy maybe stands 1-2 meter too far away so dies hw maybe only after 3 bullets. If I need a cheap melee loadout I can buy a Romero, but I believe I would never spend the money for a crown&king :-/
It's primarily a platform for us to chat with viewers, announce things, get feedback etc. However there area people that look for people to play with for a range of regions. If you are looking for a discord to find people to play hunt with exclusively, then a starting point is the official Hunt Showdown discord server: discord.gg/AKcSTH8u7z From there, you will be able to find a regional discord server using their LFG channels.
@@4FSGaming for sure. Thanks. Yeah I'm on the Hunt discord of course and Psycho ghost. I like to find players on smaller discord servers as I find them to be more reliable and chill.
Question. What makes frags so much better than the various dynamite options for you? I've had way more kills from the dynamite. Typically, the frag just does big damage but is not an insta-kill.
The instant kill radius of a frag is approximately double that of a dynamite bundle, and roughly on par with a large bundle. It's been tested by a few different people and comes out by far the best statistically. Unless you want to blow off doors and concertina, then you want dynamite.
@@4FSGaming I believe the radius thing to an extent. I keep getting high damage w/ bleeds but far fewer kills. I might just be throwing them wrong or the fuse time is throwing me off.
This will sound weird, C&K is dog poop. Never in my life have i ever had to put more than 2 rounds at 8-12 meters. I think the Caldwell is perfect for rushing and the Specter is just a better Romero (yeah i know about the spread and range but i wouldnt push your luck with that) Crown is just... wacky and inconsistent. the Rival Hand cannon clip is almost hard evidence. Watch how you had to put one shot into each with a gun that says "7 meters" compared to the full extension of the Crown 3:30 and 1:27. Both either near or in optimal ranges. Of course, you have ludicrously more experience in hunt than I do but almost ALL of my hours are Shotgun/Uppercut Hours. So the rest of the info is def absolutely amazing info and advice. But don't spend 600 dollars on the rng machine please.
@@4FSGaming I mean, I can get consistent one shots with the Caldwell, the Crown has been inconsistent the past year I've put in. There should be no reason I'd be under 10m and have to put in more than 1 shot with a shotty center mass.
Shotguns have to be one of the most consistent guns to play well in games (in my experience) Hunt: Bait and Rush D2: Bait and Rush, except with Dodge/Shouldercuck/Blinking bastard CoD: Rushing asshole with some moments of actually thinking and rotating
I want to like shotguns but compared to medium/long ammo weapons they're just too weak imo. Many firefights start outside of shotgun range and you're either stuck with your worse sidearm against mosins/sparks or have to decrease the distance, giving them time to 2v1 your buddy. It effectively takes you out of the fight if it isn't a short range battle inside a suitable compound (since some are not that favourable than others). A Vetterli headshot will kill at ANY range and a bodyshot+quickswap at close range will still kill as fast as hoping for good spread at max range with the crown king. Worse even, if the enemy KNOWS you have a shotgun. Any player with more than 10 hours in this game will then just keep their distance and render your main weapon useless. Without a shotgun, knife rushes are still a valid shortrange option that only really get's countered by fanning or a shotgun. They are one trick ponies for boss lair rushes/defenses/camping. I take a romero hatchet or short rival into my quartermaster slots from time to time if I feel like it but then regret it because double pistols are even better in that slot. Dual pax/conversion have enough ammo to kill 6 people if all are body shots, you have better range than a shotgun, way more forgiving should you miss and more ammo. You can even hope for lucky headshots far outside of a shotgun's range. I singe handedly wiped a team of three with just double conversion pistols without reloading. Cheaper than a crown king and there's a good dedicated trait for that too.
It just takes a lot of careful positioning. They are far less versatile than rifles, and you need to basically stay undetected when approaching decent players if you are to have a chance. One you get a close range surprise attack off they are much more reliable than dual pistols, so at least there is that.
i completely agree, any competent player wont let u get close specially if u were shooting with a revolver the whole fight, as i said on a comment above the uppercut is a complete waste as u going to lose any long range fights vs the rifles, yes dual pax/conversion r waaay better and if u keep ur distance u easily destroy shotty users while u can compete vs levering at 30m, all the med slot shotguns r absolute garbage, only the romero handcannon is worth its 26$, the hatchet is mostly a pve tool as the range is abismail
@@Banana-us2ss the hatchet is better than its stats make it out to be though. I got some good ohk with it. otherwise hard agree. I hope with new ammo types we get slugs, flechettes, dragon's breath/phosphorus rounds etc. to make shottys better. Shotgun shells are the easiest to load up with tons of different projectiles, there's entire UA-cam channels (TaoFledermaus) dedicated to different shot shell loads.
@@knight_lautrec_of_carim i hope that too, im very exited about slugs personally, if they can make shotguns be relevant at 25/30m im all for it, but after the recent news i am not that confident on critek
Here you utilize Gator Legs and call it a helpful trait, yet in your trait guide video you grade Gator Legs a D and say if your using it you ought to reevaluate your play style.
The inconsistencies of shotguns fucking destroy me in this game. A bitch with a Caldwell can 1 shot me 20 meters away but I cannot point blank anyone with the Caldwell. Same thing goes for that piece of shit specter where he is 10 meters away, and I hit him with two shots and he still isn't dead but I can get one tapped with a romero, no slugs, from across the map.
Sorry to break it to you, but shotguns dont really need a lot of skill. Any weapon where you just need "a modicum of accuracy" while one-shotting anyone in range is not a high skill weapon. You can use them but don't pretend that you are some skill monster because you get kills by sitting around corners with shotguns...
Shotguns have less of a mechanical skill component when it comes to aim, but a much, much higher skill floor when talking positioning, movement and map knowledge. I'm usually a mosin meta slave, but shotguns are honestly much harder to play than the dominant rifle meta, and require a complete different skill set and approach to the game.
@@4FSGaming Sorry man, but I have to disagree. Getting killed by a shotgun definelty feels unsatisfying because I KNOW that the enemy needs no skill to kill me. He didn't hit a Sparks Headshot close range or smth, he just pressed lmb once in my general direction. And since Hunt is such a slow game, there is not much you can do against someone with a Shotgun in a house. I would say it's mostly the shotguns fault that you get these compund camp matches, because if the bounty team does not peek or move, the game will drag on for a long time... you simply cannot do anything. And about the positoning skill: you need this with every gun in the game. It's not like I can stand in an open field with a Mosin just because I have a Mosin. It still very much is about flanking and finding good cover/positions. And shotgun gamers 99% of the time simply sit in a house and wait or push when you got a hit by a team mate and they can safely close the distance. Not much skill involved there, especially since Uppercuts/Dolchs provide you with more than decent long range option in addition to having by far the most effective QBC weapons in the game.
@@garrettgsf8849 sounds like you are not good at the stalking, trapping, positioning element of the game and are blaming a whole class of weapon for your weakness.
@@garrettgsf8849 Using a Mosin may take more skill aiming, but getting close enough to be effective in a firefight with a shotgun takes a LOT more skill as a player. Anyone who has a decent level of fps experience in any game can come into Hunt, shoot a long range gun and be effective. It takes a lot more thought to be able to infiltrate a protected compound and get in close and personal with a shotgun.

I'd like to see an update of this now with the custom ammo.
How you fire from the hip with a revolver?
Did he have fanning? That would do it
Could we get more of just regular gameplay content, it's actually quite entertaining lol
that nearly 200 ping though. Rough being Aussie for this game it seems.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Bait them into an ideal shotgun range, then flip the script on them. As far as the frags, It's been a desert for me. I haven't got nearly as many hit markers, or kills with it since the slight nerf to cover pen.
Just noticed that your videos are teally crisp.
After those Springfield shots.... I see why you use shotguns :P :P
I find this comment ironic, most people would say I'm a long ammo meta slave haha
@@4FSGaming I'm just teasing. I got love for you. Your nitro video was soo helpful!
Curious if you can give me info on your discord community? Do people live in a particular region? Looking for groups?
It's primarily a platform for us to chat with viewers, announce things, get feedback etc. However there area people that look for people to play with for a range of regions.
If you are looking for a discord to find people to play hunt with exclusively, then a starting point is the official Hunt Showdown discord server: discord.gg/AKcSTH8u7z
From there, you will be able to find a regional discord server using their LFG channels.
The crown and king is just a caldwell rival with extra shots, which is what makes it good.
@@4FSGaming I mean, I can get consistent one shots with the Caldwell, the Crown has been inconsistent the past year I've put in. There should be no reason I'd be under 10m and have to put in more than 1 shot with a shotty center mass.
its funny to watch low mmr player giving tips which only work in low elo clashes :)
OCE has no ELO
''Watch for traps''
*Walks into trap after saying it*
Shotguns have to be one of the most consistent guns to play well in games (in my experience)
Hunt: Bait and Rush
D2: Bait and Rush, except with Dodge/Shouldercuck/Blinking bastard
CoD: Rushing asshole with some moments of actually thinking and rotating
How come your sight in night was so bright..
So that people watching on mobile can see with screen glare.
4:40 “the pax is good if you have quartermaster” what??
"If you have quartermaster, you can bring a vandal or a nagant precision" Keep yer ears open lol
6:08 your gun Is so damn filthy
And it has no penalty, other than that you cant see the pretty skin of your toy :D
Not gonna lie, I'd be pissed if I was the team that died in the first clip.
Indeed
Everything you did here could've been done better by a Romero. Still love the vid though ^.^
Here you utilize Gator Legs and call it a helpful trait, yet in your trait guide video you grade Gator Legs a D and say if your using it you ought to reevaluate your play style.
Gatorlegs has had a complete rework between these two videos, it used to be terrible.
@@4FSGaming thanks for the clarification, I'm a new player and this confused me. I could see Gator Legs being valuable in certain scenarios.
Retitle video: "How to spend $1000 on lowskill build, and bait cuck teammates for a mediocre KDA."
Real men use the double barrel with slugs.
more like the frown & king. the disreSpectre is the best shotty in game fren
You know what's better than one Romero? *Two* cut down Romeros.
nice
The inconsistencies of shotguns fucking destroy me in this game. A bitch with a Caldwell can 1 shot me 20 meters away but I cannot point blank anyone with the Caldwell. Same thing goes for that piece of shit specter where he is 10 meters away, and I hit him with two shots and he still isn't dead but I can get one tapped with a romero, no slugs, from across the map.
the videos that yall make are good for new players but if they keep playing the same it wont make u better
@@Omniseed 1v1 me, I bet your K/D is below 0,8 lul
@@garrettgsf8849 Using a Mosin may take more skill aiming, but getting close enough to be effective in a firefight with a shotgun takes a LOT more skill as a player. Anyone who has a decent level of fps experience in any game can come into Hunt, shoot a long range gun and be effective. It takes a lot more thought to be able to infiltrate a protected compound and get in close and personal with a shotgun.
claims to be big brain but after the double kill with crown and king he should've ammo swapped the blasted heath on the dead body... we scummy shotgun mains dont claim this guy
Alright alright, back to Mosin it is for me then!
@@4FSGaming truly sorry mate I loved the pushes but I prefer spectre dolch combo
@@ghostinghostland309Dolch you say, huh? We honourable shotgun mains don't claim this guy.
@@goranbratos2097 no such thing as honourable shotguns you filthy sweat they are unbalanced as hell and we take advantage. that's like saying bomb lance takes skill 4head
If I'm not inside someone, then my shotgun doesn't kill someone. 10 feet and I need 2/3 shots from any shotgun.
In short, the shotgun nerfs made them kind of not worth using, considering blades have been buffed and are guaranteed 1 shot. Even bows are now more powerful.
I mean the nagant pistol has more damage than a romero hatchet. That's fucking sad.
Romero hatchet is kinda junk. Use the Double sawed off or Spectre. But they still kill just fine. You really need to pay attention to damage drop-off though
@@DanielHerd Idk I have zero luck with specter. Calwell is def boss tho.
