I agree. Sometimes you finish college and realize you want something completely different. I got a marketing degree at a good business school. Got my first markeitng job in tech at $52k (but over their max budget). Realizing I like product and building much more (and dislike selling/markeitng). Grinded hard to get a product marketing job 10 months into my first job and got raised to $68k. 1 year later I’m now a product marketing manager at $78k. (Avg for PMM is around $120k), now I’m trying to career shift into engineering, as I really like technical things way more (maybe product management if there is opportunity)

@@siri1481 I understand that choosing between a Business Analyst and a Management Consultant role can be confusing, especially at the undergraduate level. To help you make an informed decision, I'll provide you with a detailed comparison of both roles, as well as some suggestions for MBA specializations that could be beneficial for each career path.
      1. Business Analyst (BA):
A Business Analyst is responsible for analyzing an organization's business processes, identifying areas for improvement, and providing recommendations to optimize performance. They work closely with various stakeholders, such as IT teams and upper management, to ensure that business objectives are met. The main functions of a BA include:
      - Gathering and documenting requirements from stakeholders
      - Analyzing data and business processes
      - Developing and implementing solutions for process improvements
      - Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of implemented solutions
Some common industries where BAs work include finance, healthcare, technology, and retail. The demand for skilled BAs continues to grow, making it a lucrative career choice.
      2. Management Consultant:
A Management Consultant is an expert who provides advice and solutions to organizations on various aspects of management, such as strategy, operations, human resources, finance, and marketing. They work with clients across industries, helping them solve complex business problems, improve performance, and achieve their objectives.
Key responsibilities of a Management Consultant include:
      - Conducting research and analyzing data to identify issues and opportunities
      - Developing strategies and recommendations to address client problems
      - Assisting in the implementation of proposed solutions
      - Evaluating the effectiveness of implemented strategies and making adjustments as needed
Management Consultants often work for consulting firms, which provide services to clients on a project basis. This career path offers a diverse range of projects, potential for travel, and the opportunity to work with top-tier clients.
Now, let's explore some MBA specializations that would be suitable for each career path:
      1. For Business Analysts:
      - MBA in Business Analytics: This specialization focuses on data analysis, business intelligence, and predictive modeling. It equips you with skills to analyze and interpret data, which is crucial for a BA role.
      - MBA in Information Systems: This specialization covers the integration of technology and business processes. As a BA, you'll need to understand how technology can improve business operations, making this a relevant choice.
      2. For Management Consultants:
      - MBA in Strategy: This specialization delves into strategic planning, competitive analysis, and corporate strategy, helping you develop the analytical and problem-solving skills required for a successful career in management consulting.
      - MBA in Operations Management: This specialization deals with the management of production, supply chain, and logistics. It's suitable for those interested in consulting within the operations domain.
Ultimately, the choice between a Business Analyst and Management Consultant role depends on your interests, strengths, and career aspirations. Consider factors such as job responsibilities, work environments, and potential career growth when making your decision. Additionally, an MBA specialization that aligns with your chosen career path will further enhance your skills and employability.

@@doodleh9318 I understand you're interested in learning about the degrees or courses required for becoming a Business Analyst or Management Consultant. I'll provide you with a detailed guide for each career path, including recommended degrees, courses, and certifications.
      1. Business Analyst (BA):
To become a Business Analyst, you typically need a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as business administration, finance, economics, or computer science. However, some BAs come from non-business backgrounds, like engineering or the liberal arts, and gain the necessary skills through experience or additional training.
In addition to a bachelor's degree, you may consider taking the following courses to develop your skills and knowledge:
      • Data analysis: Learn to collect, process, and interpret data using tools like Excel, R, Python, or SQL.
      • Business process modeling: Understand how to create visual representations of business processes using tools like BPMN or UML.
      • Project management: Learn project management methodologies like Agile, Scrum, or Waterfall, which are often used by BAs.
      • Requirements elicitation: Develop skills in gathering and documenting business requirements from stakeholders.
Certifications can also enhance your qualifications and demonstrate your expertise to potential employers. Some popular certifications for BAs include:
      • Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) by the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA)
      • Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA) by the Project Management Institute (PMI)
      2. Management Consultant:
To become a Management Consultant, you typically need a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as business administration, economics, finance, or management. Some consulting firms may also hire candidates with degrees in engineering, computer science, or other specialized fields, depending on the industry and type of projects they handle.
In addition to a bachelor's degree, consider taking courses that will develop your skills in areas relevant to management consulting, such as:
      • Strategy and strategic planning: Learn the principles of strategic management and how to develop and execute strategic plans for organizations.
      • Organizational behavior: Understand the dynamics of organizations, including leadership, motivation, and team dynamics.
      • Financial analysis: Learn to analyze financial statements and perform financial modeling to assess an organization's performance and make informed decisions.
      • Change management: Develop skills to manage organizational change and help companies navigate transitions effectively.
An MBA degree is highly valued in the management consulting industry and can significantly boost your career prospects, especially if you're aiming for roles at top-tier consulting firms. Consider pursuing an MBA with specializations mentioned above (e.g., Strategy, Operations Management) to further enhance your skills.
Certifications can also be beneficial in demonstrating your expertise and commitment to the profession. Some popular certifications for Management Consultants include:
      • Certified Management Consultant (CMC) by the Institute of Management Consultants USA (IMC USA)
      • Certified Strategy and Business Transformation Professional (CSBTP) by the Global Association for Quality Management (GAQM)
Additionally, gaining practical experience through internships or entry-level positions in consulting firms can help you develop the hands-on skills and industry knowledge required to excel in a management consulting career.
In summary, both Business Analysts and Management Consultants typically require a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and taking specialized courses to enhance their skills. While an MBA is not mandatory for either role, it can provide a significant advantage in the job market and improve your career prospects, especially in management consulting.
For both professions, consider participating in internships, work placements, or entry-level positions to gain practical experience and network with professionals in your chosen field. This will help you develop your skills, gain insights into the industry, and increase your chances of landing a desirable job.
In addition to formal education and certifications, developing certain soft skills is essential for success in both roles. These skills include:
      • Problem-solving: The ability to analyze complex situations, identify issues, and develop effective solutions.
      • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for conveying your findings, recommendations, and ideas to stakeholders or clients.
      • Collaboration: Working effectively with cross-functional teams and building strong relationships with stakeholders is crucial for both Business Analysts and Management Consultants.
      • Adaptability: Being able to adjust to new challenges, industries, and projects is key to succeeding in the dynamic and fast-paced environments of both professions.
Lastly, it's essential to stay informed about industry trends, new methodologies, and technologies. This will enable you to maintain your skills and knowledge up-to-date and better serve your clients or stakeholders.
By pursuing the appropriate education, certifications, and practical experiences, and developing the necessary soft skills, you'll be well-prepared to embark on a rewarding career as either a Business Analyst or a Management Consultant. Ultimately, the choice between these two paths depends on your personal interests, strengths, and long-term career goals.

That’s exactly what consultants do. When your CEO is deciding whether to spend $1 million on a business decision, they’re gonna consult a human with specific expertise in their industry who can gather new data and not rely on chatgpt to give very generic guesses about what to do.

Unnecessary flex but I know because I am one and I make more than these too salaries combined!

To become a product manager would you have to major in industrial engineering or would computer science be good as well?

    • @GamerboiJared
      @GamerboiJared 2 роки тому +2

I'm a IBE double major at OSU and currently interning at P&G in Cincinnati. For my ISE degree I'm mainly taking CS classes and I kinda regret not just coming in as a CS major. ISE is amazing, but only reason why I did it at Ohio State was because IBE puts me in the honors college and I got to be a business major. I'm sure you can get away with either major, but more schools have a CS program compared to Industrial. No major will hold you back. Do what interests you the most!!!

The perks and the compensation of money is nothing. First and foremost you live in cities that are valued high. Granted making that kinda money does give one more flexibility in life but if your living a extravagant lifestyle your still living no different than what the average income earner is making. The struggle is still just as real. If your not finding ways to make more money from the money you make you’ll always be poor.

A 115k salary would be 5-6k a month here in my country.
Only way you earn that much here is though company loyalty for 20 years and taking every change to move up.
And 5k here feels like 2,5k these days so we are pretty screwed economically.
