Hey Everyone! If you ever wanted to learn Grease Pencil, I just released a course with CG Boost here: www.cgboost.com/courses/master-grease-pencil-in-blender . This course is a lot more thoroughly paced and will walk you through everything you need to know to get started. By the end you'll have created an entire scene. Hope you guys enjoy and thanks for the support!
I feel like it really is a small world when I see Tom Buck commenting on a Blender video, and I recognize him from all of the microphone videos I've watched.
I'm so impressed with these tutorials - they're a level of precision, directness, and clarity that is extremely rare and unbelievably easy to follow. Thank you!
These tutorials are so thorough and easy to follow. A little fast at times, at complex parts, but that's on me to slow the video down and walk through the steps. We are so fortunate to have this level of educational material at our fingertips. Big thank you to Kevandram!
Aaah I remember watching that moon flower video from you a year ago and being really stunned by it, and now you're creating even more awesome stuff! it's so amazing how much you improved and also how dedicated your yt channel is now
Something about this style scrates my brain in an unbelievably good way. There's almost always something about 3d art that's just not doing it for me but I LOVE this stylisation It's so crisp and goes right it my brain but still 3d. It's so fun to look at!
I love the pace, if I need to slow down, to catch up ; I can pause. If there's too much conversation in the tutorial I get caught up in all the "fluff" of the content. Keep up the good work, 'preciate you!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I've only been using Blender for about a week and this was incredibly helpful, it was really fun to follow along to, and you provided a lot of helpful tips along the way. I truly appreciate all of the work you put in.
thank for including mac user buttons and ppl without number pads bc other tutorials disregard it and im unable to follow the rest of the tutorial bc google doesnt help when i dont know what the menu is even called that im trying to summon. i also appreciate the acknowledgment that some ppl like me use a mac with a trackpad and even my magic mouse doesnt have a center button or scroll button on it. these issues ive been trying to figure out this morning watching many other tutorials and u solved everything in the first 3 minutes lol i was about to cry
This tutorial is awesome! Thanks for creating it. I spent over 6 hours today just going through the first 10 minutes of it, filling up two pages in my notebook with hotkeys and process notes. This is my first time attempting to use Blender since 2013, and you've made it really easy to get back up to speed (loving the new UI paradigm in 3.5 - compared to 2.6 or whatever I last used). Can't wait to get back into this tomorrow.
This is awesome! Very well done! 😃 If I didn't see this video and just saw the end result I wouldn't even believe it was all done all in Blender! You're very talented. I enjoy watching your tutorials! I hope you have a great weekend my friend! 🙂
commenting to boost your engagement because this is so so so much better than the other tutorials YT had recommended, it's nuts!! I hope everyone is lucky enough to find your stuff first :)
Que maravilla que alguien enseñe esto, es muy complicado encontrar vídeos que hablen de este tipo de herramientas y lo mejor es que está subtitulado ❤️💕👌
This was so entertaining to watch despite me never having used blender nor having ever been into making 3d stuff lmfao, youtube recommended this to me and I said "oh yeah let's go" lmfao Great video, ngl! I understood it all despite,,, not being able to do it myself? lmao
The other thing Blender needs IMO is "explicit surfaces". They're there in a way (material assigned to a set of faces is a surface), but not really defined as such where you can label them. It would be nice to label a surface so a material asset can be assigned to a specific surface on a mesh, and also to random assign various materials between surfaces to get like a "click through view" of a lot of different combinations - think clothing. Blender doesn't tend to use the term "surfaces" much but I think it should as I tend to see it in other 3d programs, and I think it would be good to align with that terminology.
I believe the functionality is there, but perhaps not in a way that's defined as specifically as this. But yes, I agree I think that would be interesting if this could be labeled and align with the terminology.
Your tutorials are very easy to follow. I am learning so much. I really loved the toon shader you made. It was so beautiful, I gasped when I saw the shaded cake before the outlines were applied. I would like to see if you could make this more advanced. It's so easy, from a technical, software perspective, to make great art like this. I wonder what happens when you apply even more of the capabilities of GP and Blender in general
Hi Kev. I am so exited to try this awsome tutorial :D . I wanna ask when i draw the lines on the cake 15.48 why is it not attach to the cake surface? The line attaches to the cake if i see it from front view but it is actually far away from the cake when i see it from other view. Thx before :)
Hello! And that might be due to the offset you have set for your stroke setting. If it's set to surface, make sure the offset is a lower number like 0.015. It might also help to draw in orthographic view ( shortcut numpad 5). Hope that helps!
It was just because it was easier workflow wise since you don’t need to create another material slot. Usually, if it’s just smaller things that I don’t plan on changing in the future, then vertex color is fine.
List of Grease Pencil Questions 1. Why is the fill not working? 2. How to connect points in a vector? 3. How to make an acute angle in a vector? 4. How to make a smoothing brush?
1. This might be due to an unclosed stroke. The paint bucket tool will only work if it has a closed area to fill 2. You can select the stroke and hit F to make the stroke cyclic (complete itself) or you can shift + select 2 different point and hit CTRL + J to join them 3. You can rotate strokes precisely in Edit Mode with the basic Blender positioning controls 4. Go into Sculpt Mode with the grease pencil object and use the smooth tool.
Make sure you have an existing keyframe on that layer. If you do not, you will get an error message that says "no available frame for creating stroke". Hope that helps!
Nice! I'm following this on Blender 3.01 and I have a problem: @17:03 : how did you go to Edit Mode without deselecting the circle? I can only do it after accepting it with middle mouse click and then in Edit Mode I have to select all the points of circle one by one (luckily they are on a separate plane from the other strokes so I can box select them on numpad 1)
Thank you! So, if you go into edit more but use "Stroke Select" with shortcut "2", it selects the entire stroke (including all the points attached to it). Hope that helps!
9:30 using the position output from the voronoi texture is gonna make some weird lightning as soon as you move the object a bit too much from the world origin , is there a way to fix this ?
You people! Just when I get UA-cam to stop suggesting foodie videos, as I am supposed to reduce my sugar consumption...they give me Blender foodie videos! What is it with Blender and treats? Donuts, cake, ice cream. You all want a lot of sweets in your animations, obviously! Good job, though! I have worked in professional bakeries and your cake looks nice!

Shift + Select the Object you want to copy to, then the Object with the material you want to copy from and hit CTRL + L > Link Materials. Hope that helps!
At 9:55 when you link materials the nodes do not show up for the icing layer, talking with others they have also experienced this issue, how would I resolve this?
Hey Hyacinth, I linked the material from the cake mesh first and then created a single user copy (pressing the number or new material button). Let me know if the nodes are still not showing up.
I really need help, this tutorial is great, but on the part where you start using the grease pencil for icing, I have my auto keyframing off but it still is auto keyframing, how do I fix this????? Found the solution: In the icing layer in the timeline if you click the check box it fixes this, I know it's not what he did but it works for me, someone please tell me if I did it wrong, or there's a better way, have a great day!
I have a question, I am doing a similar kind of project and have many different 3D meshes and each and every mesh's shading is effected by the same light, due to this some of the meshes which are far away from the light get no shading at all. Is there a way where I can assign a light so that it only effects a single mesh without it messing up the shading of different meshes?
I'm not sure it's possible to exclude certain meshes from being affected by a light source. But, what I would do is create a duplicate material (based on your main shader) for the objects that you want a different look. Then, I would adjust the color ramp with either a multiply math node to intensify or lessen the coverage. You can place individual lights, but it's not always reliable with the shader set up found in this tutorial. If you are using a set up that incorporates the "Separate RGB" node, then that's more preferred as you can paint directly with a Red, Green, or Blue light. Hope that helps!
when i press command 2 nothin happens wit the definition i also linked the material n the 2nd tier isn’t reflecting that change only the top tier is😭 but the 2nd tier is showing the material in the material tab so idk
Hey Kitsune! If you want to add the Subdivision Surface modifier, you can do it manually by going to the Modifier Properties Tab and selecting it from the list. Also, regarding the materials, make sure they're ordered correctly if you have outlines on them. So, just make sure the color material is in the first slot. Hope that helps!
My viewport went pale when I went into draw mode on 2D animation tab!!! Any reason why? It looks like there's a white, transparent overlay on my viewport. I have tried to google answers but there is nothing about it. I feel like it's a super easy fix, but I just don't even know where to start looking lol
No worries! Try to check your world properties and see if the viewport display and background are white. That’s generally where the confusion can happen. If that’s the case, you can follow the tutorial as is and change the background color to a desired color.
Anyone happen to know if materials node setup can have "parameters" to it. IIRC, assets can have parameters associated with them. Wonder if materials support - like when you drag an asset material onto 3d object an input dialog comes up with some config parameters (like a group node, but at higher level - inputs to shader as a whole and connected to material asset with some default settings). And user can see changes to the shading of the object as they're configuring the shader
Hey guys, Is there any reason why the strokes are not showing? is like the tool is not working. I can't see what I'm painting and it's also not rendering
