Great review. I would add that there is a switch on the USB adapter box where you can choose between Plane or Car. Be sure to have switched to plane as I thought my pedals were broken until Huddison/James pointed out the switch!

Good point, and well picked up on! I've had them for 2 years now and I've always had the perception they're the very bottom of the market and to me they "feel" that way, far too loose and (TBH) "tacky" feeling to them for me, although I've not tried any others so going on instinct on this one.

Very good point. I moved my set up twice and each time the switch moved to the car setting. Once in the plane my controls were wonky. It does induce a bit of panic until you know what to look for.

I've had these Rudder Pedals for some time now (a Gift from one of my dear Subscribers ;) & I totally agree with the majority of your points made in the video, especially about turning Sensitivity way up (or would that be down?) in the minus sensitivity. Congrats on breaking through 30k Subscribers Mark 👏

Despite having the TM pendular rudder I still use these a lot, especially when I don't want to set up my main sim rig, and I agree that the spring tension could be higher. However the biggest problem for me is the "stiction" in the pedals - Once you apply enough force to overcome the static friction then the pedals just let go leading to over controlling. Of course a higher tension spring would be the ideal solution for this, but in the absence of that I found that applying a silicon lubricant to the metal sliders really helped to minimise this problem. It's still there, but greatly reduced.

The Thrustmaster TWCS Throttle Controller which uses a very similar rail/slider function design stock had the same stickiness not as smooth as what you would prefer out of the box.
Greasing it was a short term improvement but still not making to the level desired.
There were several aftermarket sources where people were "printing" a new bearing guide/carrier and offered several choices from inserts to actual bearings which took care of the problem and made the throttle smooth as silk and you could adjust the resistance to personal preference.
Also the kits for the amount of improvement they offered were very reasonably priced as compared to trying to upgrade to a then available higher quality throttle unit.
The kits did require disassembly of the throttle but was very easy to install and it may be worth checking around to see if someone is already making a similar kit for these rudder pedals.
As far as the throttle goes it made it be from unpleasant to use at best to very good until Virpil comes out with the throttle that "has been coming soon" for the last couple of years.
One of the main reasons I ditched console gaming all together was the restrictions they put on allowing only peripherals that buy paid licenses to be used on their consoles instead of just allowing any USB unit to work. Really bad for choices amounting to mostly very low quality units when it comes to sim gear and gaming consoles.

Thanks Mark, great review as always. Rudders are probably the category people are the most hesitant to invest in. After all it's in most cases only used in some phases of the flight. But from an added immersion and realism perspective, I find a good rudder makes a world of difference. And the category lacks decent mid level options. It's either a cheap plastic feast or a pro grade at the corresponding price. I'm a super happy owner of Virtualfly Ruddo+ and I consider it an investment. I can't tell the difference between this and a real rudder on the planes I used to fly. But I'm conscious that the price point is high. I think a good yoke should come first, then a good throttle quadrant and finally once you've decided you're hooked on the hobby, consider a nice rudder :)

Thank you for the review! I have a pair of these and I really like them. Cheapest around as you say, but the main reason I use them is because they don't slide on carpet. I used to have Saitek pedals which are more expensive but the spring in those is so strong, they moved on carpet even with their grippers in place.

  • @rexwatling1029

I got these when they first came out. After a while an issue cropped up where full right deflection swung the rudder right and then hard left! The issue was in game only, it never showed up in any calibration software (windows, the game settings, Spad.next or FSUIPC full version.) The only solution was to never apply full right rudder!
Roll on 2021 and MSFS. Complete new PC build for the new sim, and the issue still exists! I'm more series with this hobby now and I've taken the upgrade path to another product. (Still yet be installed)

The narrowness of these kinds of rudder pedals, and the obvious low quality of the hardware, is why I chose to buy the expensive but solid (and heavy, which is good when in use) Virpil ACE Collections Rudder Pedals. They are wide enough to be comfortable especially over long periods of use. The only problem I had was changing out the pedal springs for more tension than the default, there is a trick to doing it easily that isn't described in the manual.

When you have had these for a while and they start to 'stick' or get fetched up and then release and jump you may feel that you need to replace them.
Try this first: get Molykote 111 or equivalent food grade lubricant and thinly coat the shiny metal rails. The rudder pedals will be like new again. Depending on how dusty the area is (or how many pets you have) wipe the rails down and reapply as needed.

    • @randyjones9726
      @randyjones9726 2 роки тому +1

I use silicon lubricant to accomplish this. The biggest problem for me with these pedals is that after a year, the potentiometers stick and report false readings. You could see the pedals in the plane jumping back and forth really fast. I replaced these pedals with the Thrustmaster TPRs. They are truly great. They are expensive but they will change the way you fly. Unfortunately I can't say the same for these pedals.

Great review as always, my TFRP and Hotas One arrive tomorrow - had to send Velocity One back as the entire mechanism inside failed and the finish around the HAT switches deteriorated rapidly. Mark, A quick mod to stop your Saitek/Logitech pedals from slipping on the carpet is buy a thin outdoor rubber door mat ( one with thin bristles is best for gripping the carpet), flip it upside down, remove the 2 front removable plastic foot rests from the base, use the holes from the foot rests slot in to and run a screw through and attach the pedals to the door mat, replace the foot rests and you are good to go. I have been using this for years and its been the best method of stopping the from slipping, i have a feeling that the pedals will break before they slip on the carpet again

Thanks for the review Mark. I have used this exact rudder pedal for 3+ years and I have to say, the braking for me is horrible. I can never keep the plane straight when braking. The braking is always uneven. Hence, the roll out phase on landing has become my least favorite part in both XPlane & MSFS 20.

Thanks for the review. I purchased a pair a few months ago and I hate them. They feel flimsy and I have found it impossible to adjust the sensitivity to anything nearing satisfactory. Bought them to replace a sturdy set of CH pedals that I had for years but those eventually failed and I purchased the Thrustmaster. Now going to buy the Logitech as they look like a better option.
