I don't know if it's her superior stretch dancewear - - or her lines or even those arms - - but Dronina is on fire - - and the music 🎶 and Jurgita are - - blended nicely ❤️ together. Thank you @ DanceLine Ballet - - for sharing.
My opinion is that Dronina is ABSOLUTELY EXQUISITE in this Variation! The other Ballerinas are of course AMAZING also. But, my favorite in this one, is Dronina 🌹🌹⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We'd definitely missed the "rumbling gargouillade" - - meantime we have learnt about - - Hayden & Verdy & McBride etc. Thank 😊 you to all dancers - - who always & kindly give us - - intellectual instruction. And thank to - - @ DanceLine Ballet for this great post.
Obraztsova, definitely. Dronina was quite good and Somova, well, I love her, but, flailing everywhere, stiff at the end. It's not her role, and she really has come on leaps and bounds since then. I think Zakharova is good in this, very fast as for a Russian. Obviously, old NYCB ballerinas like Patricia McBride are best at Balanchine, as he approved their dancing.
Not one of them seems to have the attack that’s called for. It’s important to arrive on time not early not late. That’s the thrill of moving quickly that you do it on time. Not a one of them has it. Somova seems to mistake this for a lyrical piece. It is not lyrical.
If my arms and legs were that long I would mistake it for lyrical piece too lol. Just kidding. I agree with your comment. She really has a remarkable physique. My favourite in this clip was Dronina.
I’m sorry but Mr Balanchine would roll in his grave watching Dronina do a simpler pas de chat instead of the original, much more difficult Gargouillade, which is one of the highlights of this variation. Somova didn’t even bother to finish the variation with the sense of abandon and “throwing caution to the wind” that Mr B appreciated so much. As a Russian trained ballerina I truly appreciate that Obraztsova did just that. It’s hard to adopt a different style.
Agree. For this comparison, we do need a NYCB dancer version like Tiler Peck as a reference. The energy is just different. Obratzsova’s version slows down the music a lot. Alina is the least suitable for this variation as this one requires speed and accuracy which makes Alina throw her legs around with even less control.
@Cheng Zhao And since when do modern NYCB dancers have true Balanchine technique, just as Balanchine wanted? Rather someone like Melissa Hayden, Violette Verdy, or Patricia McBride. They could dance true Balanchine, unlike the butchered attempt that is danced today.
YES, I agree with you isabela! Dronina looked good sometimes, whereas Somova just flung her extensions and seemed completely out of touch with what was required. Patricia McBride is the gold standard for this role, and in today's NYCB Tiler Peck is thrilling.
I'm trying to see if there's more of Obravtsova dancing Diamonds because the tiny clip I've seen is so Balancbine-like. Dronina also does maybe a Royale or soubresaut where I think the choreo is an entrechat trois. But otherwise, I think Dronina has a very Balanchine attack and nuance.
Alina Somova is fantastic it seems like she with her dance creates this unbelievably beautiful music( with all my respect to Dronina and Obraztsova!) As always enjoyed! Thank You very much!
Does anyone know what happened to May Nagahisa? She disappeared into thin air a little while ago. She isn't even on the Mariinsky website. No one has noticed . I only knew because of a discussion on a video of Margarita Frolova. I thought that @Bundu Ballerina would post about it, she/he (?) has been posting about dancers leaving Russia. Does anyone have any information?
I would leave the judging for long term classical ballet judges and express only personal opinion. All of the 3 ballerinas have beautiful professional movements and strong highly technical skills; I love to see different interpretations of one variation and they did show that beautifully!!!👍👏🌟 When it comes to a personal choice I really like Alina Somova ( while still admire Obraztsova and Dronina). Somova moves very fast for having long and so beautiful extremities; she goes to retiree always vs. coupe;” she is fluent and so elegant in expressing herself, she brings true emotional-dance-based joy to the stage, she is knitted with talents, topped with solid 8 year hard training at Vaganova and polished continuously at Mariinsky; for the time she puts her leg up at 170 degrees de others put theirs the same height the same height the at the same speed without others taking disgusting words. Alina Somova continues to wow the world with her talent, technic, passion for ballet, and being a true artist. If she stops dancing she can become a model.
Dronina demonstrates solid technique in this variation and seems to have a good connection with her audience, while Somova's long limbs and extensions add a lot of impressive qualities to her dancing, and Obratzova's expressiveness is absolutely enchanting.
Dronina was quite nice, despite the fact that she butchered the choreography. Her turns managed to retain the unrestrained appearance that Balanchine wanted, even when she was attempting to spot the audience. Don't even get me started on Somova. She was an utter disaster! Obraztsova was very nice here, though unbearably slow for Balanchine. Still, she had that reckless abandon that characterises true Balanchine dancing. In conclusion, none of them are, in my opinion, very remarkable. Dronina and Obraztsova did well enough, but there are many better dancers for this variation out there, especially NYCB dancers from the time when Balanchine was still alive.
Dronina, hands down. (Heels up?) She's also the only one to do all of the backward hops. Why do so many ballerinas do only half of them? Did Balanchine authorize this?
I love Obtarzstova normally, but have to admit she isn't great in this clip. Dronina is wonderful here! I love her interpretation! Somova, yeah, no, not at all.
Do you have Kaptsova? Because she's so small and fast, I bet she's great in this. Really liked Dronina, although yeah, no gargouillade. But one thing to consider is that Balanchine was morphing his pieces all the time, and I've learned different people teaching for the Trust may set pieces slightly differently. Somova is better than I remembered but still a little wild considering the speed of this variation. Obravtsova can do no wrong.
Somova nails it. I love watching move her that quickly. Super exciting. Then Obratzova and I don't think Dronina should even be considered. She didn't remotely bother with the gargouilliade and then she stumbled the finish.
They gave it a go but none were successful. Either the music was too slow, the music beats off or being held back by over exensions. They look ragged and out of control even with the dumbed down choreography!
I don't know if it's her superior stretch dancewear - - or her lines or even those arms - - but Dronina is on fire - - and the music 🎶 and Jurgita are - - blended nicely ❤️ together. Thank you @ DanceLine Ballet - - for sharing.

Ах, какие у Дрониной шикарные руки!
Awesome channel!!!!
Thank you 😊❤️
Tiler Peck is the absolute Queen of this.

timestamps 😚
0:03 - Jurgita Dromina
0:50 - Alina Somova
1:37 - Evgenia Obratzova
SO gorgeous.
0:33 travel travel travel 😃

@@galinayepanchina6443 I couldn’t agree more. They’re legends. There’s no Suzanne Farrell today.

시원시원 너무 잘하시네요.
발도 예쁘시구.
처음분 팔선이 자유자재로 너무 예쁘고 우아하시네요.
멋져요❤
Definitlely is for me Dronina the best 🤩
Alina Somova is fantastic it seems like she with her dance creates this unbelievably beautiful music( with all my respect to Dronina and Obraztsova!) As always enjoyed! Thank You very much!
Alina é simplesmente maravilhosa!!!

Somova for me as well.
Thank You. 🙏
God Bless🙏
🙏
Thank You.
Missing Kaptsova from this short video ? Dronina is the best among three !

fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Elles sont parfaites. ❤
J’imagine donc bien que les recruteurs ne sélectionnent que des gabarits, …
Dronina was quite nice, despite the fact that she butchered the choreography. Her turns managed to retain the unrestrained appearance that Balanchine wanted, even when she was attempting to spot the audience.

So basically mesomorph, ektomorph and endomorph
May I vote for Patricia McBride?
Dronina, hands down. (Heels up?) She's also the only one to do all of the backward hops. Why do so many ballerinas do only half of them? Did Balanchine authorize this?
Beautiful ballerinas but too slow for my taste and never ahead of the music.
Alina Somova is the best
I love Obtarzstova normally, but have to admit she isn't great in this clip. Dronina is wonderful here! I love her interpretation! Somova, yeah, no, not at all.
very far from Aurelie Dupont Tchaikovsky pdd amazing pirouettes ( video UA-cam) Paris-Opera
Dronina, of course. Somova and Obraztsova aren't able to follow Balanchine standards, they don't even try.
Two words......Tiler Peck
Do you have Kaptsova? Because she's so small and fast, I bet she's great in this. Really liked Dronina, although yeah, no gargouillade. There's a video of Kaptsova somewhere. I'll try to link it, but I don't know how to link. It's the whole pas de deux.
Can't link, sorry. Channel is @Toscanina II, with Semyon Chudin.
Somova nails it. I love watching move her that quickly. Super exciting. Then Obratzova and I don't think Dronina should even be considered. She didn't remotely bother with the gargouilliade and then she stumbled the finish.
Сомова и Образцова в музыку не попадают. Доронина брава!
They gave it a go but none were successful. Either the music was too slow, the music beats off or being held back by over exensions. They look ragged and out of control even with the dumbed down choreography!
y’all are so wrong somova SOLOS
Dronina is the best of them, but these are not the best in the world performances. Why compare these three if there are much better ones?
