Thanks for the great video. Am retired military and have been traveling full-time in a 5th wheel for the past five years. Unfortunately, my parents, now in their mid-80s, need me in Indiana to help out around the house. Was looking at buying a house with some land for my RV, but now, based on your video, I'm thinking more about building a RV Barndominium that can function as my home base while I'm needed by my parents. So far, I haven't seen any other ideas that are more appealing than your's.
As a long time RVer and getting a bit older I have begun the search for a bardominium. I've looked at a similar design like this where the RV covered area roofline comes out even with the upper roof line as my coach is 12' 7" tall and I want some work room on top of the coach if needed, and I likely would make it wider based on my coach needs. Likewise having just finished attending the Tampa RV show, there are a great number of RV's that now have 36 slideouts on each side. Your garage area for me will likely become more living space as I can either pull the coach out, or send it out for maintenance. The second floor becomes a decision issue yet as I don't want to climb stairs in the future. There's other changes I would make but that's for me and my wife. One recommendation I would make to you is that all large growing trees should be a minimum of 10 feet from the foundation as they can cause series issues down the road. Nice looking overall.
This is perfect for me. I have a Class C, Single woman & want to downsize & use my RV for more adventures & less house. I was just talking about this with my Cousin who has 14 acres. He has my Uncles property, his Grandfather & they want to build a barndominium. But, I don’t want to live in my hometown, TH, IN. Saw your Cummins hat. So, assume, you know Indiana. I just need a lot, no HOA that I could build something like this, with utilities, water/septic, water & dump area on property….my DREAM. TY, for this great video. Maybe my dream is possible.
As full time RVers I LOVE the design. The only changes I would make are. Figure out the room for a full size fridge, and i would make the rv port 20 feet wide. I know size wise it wouldn't match the other side. I could live with that. I'm betting a 20 foot open rv port vs a 15 foot closed in room on the other side would look darn near the same. I would also swap the rv port to the left side. Then I could have a fire pit, and chairs right outside the rv door. That would leave the electric, and plumbing on the building, and proper side of the rv. We are thinking from the mindset of someone that would actually use the rv at their home base vs someone who would mostly just store it at their home base. By use it I'm meaning ourselves, kids, friends, family. Love the look, and keeping this one in mind. :)
Love the idea with a few changes in mind. Enclosed and heated building. Build lower and upper windows to allow easy access for fume to scapes. Build the roof higher so we can work on the rv roof. The prices for regular rv storage buildings are supper high. Buildings your own style at least give you what you want.
Thanks so much for the tour and all of your thoughts. This was very helpful to me as I move forward with my build. You have a very nice place and I appreciate you sharing. Thanks!
I’ve been thinking about this as well. Nice idea’s and plans. But I live in Michigan and I also do my own rv repairs. So I would need to have access to the closed barndominium. I would like to have access for my wife’s car as well so I would like to have 2 roll up doors. All dreams for now.
This is absolutely perfect for me, the only modification that I would make is that I can open the slides all the way. I love how the trees protect and really envelope the whole structure. Now do you think that where you have the golf cart can support a 5500 Cummins 84 CA Limited 4x4? Thank You and God Bless🙏
I have always liked the Monitor or Carolina style barn. I have plans of placing my class C m.h. in the middle with a double wide over door and two single wide over doors in the lower sections for my cars and a man shed set up. I like the idea of hot and cold outside spigots. I enjoyed your video. I got some good ideas from it.
Thanks for sharing as we were given some good ideas for our future build. We'd love to know more about the floors inside. Thanks again for posting - - love it!
Thank you, glad to hear. I chose to build on a slab, mainly for weight capacity reasons. I had planned to just have polished/sealed concrete floors, but I didn't do a very good job as a GC protecting them with all the trades in and out so it would have cost more to grind them down and so in the end I just sealed them with an epoxy-based floor paint. The upper level is just old fashioned wide southern yellow pine tongue and groove planks with a darker stain. Very economical. They are softer, so not as durable compared to red oak planks (more common here), but it's a nice look and kinda rustic.
Thank you for sharing your video! I love your design. My 33' Classic Airstream would fit perfectly, only I would mirror this design to have the camper door open towards the yard/river/field/runway/etc 😁 Can you suggest a hanger attachment to the back? THAT would be amazing!!
Thanks again for another great video. Wanted to make you aware that next April 17-23 we’re having another Pinnacle owners rally in Sevierville, TN. You should try and come. Great time with people all owning Pinnacles. We went to the one in Spearfish, SD last June and had 20 in attendance and most were from closer to you. We are going to this one and we live in Nebraska. I have a screen shot of the dates and resort but don’t know how to attach them.
Thank you! That sounds like a nice rally. UA-cam won't allow the attachments here, but is it on the Pinnacle facebook group? If not, don't hesitate to message me with screen shot and I'll keep an eye out for it. Thank you, again for the invite!

Stumbled on your video and we absolutely love it! We have a 42’ 5th Wheel and want something like this to be our home base and for family and friends to visit. I like the covered area for the RV, and the big garage as well for the dually. We currently live in Georgia and their zoning can be funky in the county in which we live. Really like the surrounding trees and landscape of your property. What state are you all in? Great video! Thanks!!!
So beautiful. We want to do a Barndo that has the living space above and having the entire first floor rv and garage storage that is closed in with doors and have it heated and cooled. We would have an elevator and back staircase going up to the living area. Any ideas for that type of plan? We are doing research now and any help would be appreciated!
Thank you! I love that idea/concept you've got. I've seen a few UA-cam channels that cover just barndominiums and have some very nice looking buildings. My building is about 44x44 approximately on the footprint, but I think if you sized up to 60-80 feet you could get a fairly large base level to accomodate a livable upper level and still keep the monitor barn style. There is some flexibility on the center aisle up top in terms of how large with the proportions...mine is probably on the smaller side. Anyway, hope your research goes well and I bet it'll turn out to be a beautiful building when its complete.
Doesn’t this structure count as a home? It has a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and garage. I’m hoping that it does count as a home because this is exactly what I’m wanting on my property and county code says the first thing built must be a home / living structure. I can’t put a garage or barn first (to store tools and materials in) and build a house second.
It was either 1000 or 1500 gal, separate from main house one. I believe the county health dept dictates the min size. I plan every 5 years or so to have it pumped out.
What if the RV door side was facing out? That's how I'd design it, just because an extra view if living in the RV. I'd also make the RV space higher and wider. Just me.
Love LOVE LOVE your barn/house/RV storage it's exactly what I want for our land in Maine! Nice job!!! Can I ask how much the total cost was and do you have a new/separate septic for it?
Thank you, I'm enjoying it. About 180K all-in, but here's video outlining costs - ua-cam.com/video/sHxzyXFu-04/v-deo.html And I did new septic mainly due to distance from existing and requirement by county.
Any issues with animals/rodents doing damage to the camper being stored like this? I'd also be interested in hearing more about the construction method while building on the hillside and insuring the concrete won't settle over time.
Great question and thanks for watching. To answer question about construction, I imagine it varies based on local soil conditions. Clay is what we have mostly where I live and so I had to hire an engineer to spec out the size of the footings, thickness of the wall, rebar inside, etc. -- it was a pretty thick wall, aka foundation subwall. Then the fill had to be compacted layer by layer with a sheepfoot compacter and the slab itself was a commercial slab with rebar inside of it and grade beams. All that to say the engineer designed all that to spec and had to exceed county building requirements. Here's a video with more construction details: ua-cam.com/video/ICwPyZfLoDc/v-deo.htmlsi=l71qQqWTyEUuWCEa For the rodent question we are blessed with a healthy population of predators that keep them in check, but I think the key is also making sure no holes in RV for them to get into. I'm a big fan of sealing underbelly: ua-cam.com/video/mOq81E8N5cI/v-deo.htmlsi=cBAZIG8Et-e8gvmn
Yes, just $100 for the plans. Here's a link with screen shots and more info to get a better idea of what's included: adventure.rocks/product/rv-storage-barn-plans-drawings/
Maybe separate solar on top of the roof? It's nice to keep the RV roof protected from the elements, but downside is if you have solar on RV won't work when in storage.
Sure, glad to help. And, thanks for watching. I built it back in 2017, but it was about $180K all-in or about $100 per sq ft. I served as GC and completed all the finish carpentry, cabinetry, tile, etc. so saved a good bit $$ there, but the savings were offset by about $50K in sitework and concrete to get to a slab due to my hilly terrain. I think a flatter lot could have resulted in significantly less site work expenses. I did some nicer finishes on the finish trim and kitchen/bath so certainly some areas to cut costs. Think costs have gone up more in today's economy, but if you're able to pitch in and do some degree of the work yourself, even if only as a GC you can really save a good bit.

Great video. Did you think of moving the rv storage to the other side? Thar way you could have all of the services on the correct side of the rig and you could put the slides out along with the stairs.
Not yet. Mine is 10 feet tall, 10 wide. Ceiling is a bit over 11 feet inside garage. Have to use low clearance track as I have a full loft space above with living space.
In Georgia we don't have to worry about snow load as we may get snow a couple times a year at most and it usually melts next day. So the engineer that signed off on posts, span, and joists there didn't have to factor snow load in. I recall though when looking at charts for spans and such that there are standards for snow load with area and distance to yield recommended sizes.
@@AdventureRocks Oh, sorry about that. I was judging by the vegetation in the background as it looks more northerly. Though I should have known by how perfect your lawn is! :) I interested in this type of building but snow is a consideration in Central Ontario. Thank you!
@@dmc8418 I hear you! I remember the engineer talking about it and saw the charts he was referencing, but don't recall the specifics for how much more lumber/posts you'd need for snow load.
Great build, thanks for sharing! Curious why you placed the water spigot and electric so far apart? Just seems like less "cords" to trip over if they were in same general area - near the rear of the coach.
Personal decision. I don't keep it connected to water that often, but most of the RVs I've owned have wet bays closer to the front, whereas the electrical is closer to the rear.

Super video. During your intro flyby, it appears that you have a lot that has a lot of grade. Not knowing what part of the country you reside in, did you consider using any of the retaining wall/floor below as a shelter? Did you do your own CAD work?
Thank you. Yes, very hilly here in GA. I opted to do a poured foundation sub-wall, backfilled and compacted with slab on top, but that is less common. Usually it is more common to simply have a basement in my area. Just a personal preference more so the way I planned to use building. But, definitely could modify and include a shelter below with all that space down there...or a safe room/vault, etc...great idea! I learned CAD way back in late 90s with AutoCad Release 13 and its mostly stuck with me since, kinda like riding a bike though I'm a little rusty on some of it.
@@AdventureRocks I've been using AutoCAD since the '80's. Have taught it at our local community college. When I saw your dwgs that really piqued my interest and appear to be about the age of my sons. Well I'll see your problem Mary you're talking about that you know in post what I do is I am laying their foot nice size footer down all the way down through there just you can add on more posts and more roof there and take them post out we're open and wider where you can get your slides open better that's what I do sir it's going to cost a little bit more money but I will if I want them open all the way that's what I do have a good day sir
Have you noticed any difference in the way your Pinnacle tows as a wide body, drop frame compared to your last 5th wheel? I don’t know the specs on your last rig (if it was a wide body with a drop frame or not). Thanks - DJ
I have not noticed a significant difference between my current Pinnacle with drop-frame and OEM "5-star" handling package compared to my previous fifth wheel that was a Salem Hemisphere 378FL...straight frame with rear drop section, with Lippert Road Armor equalizer + Sailun G-rated tires + Reese Goosebox. In some ways I think the pinbox makes the biggest difference. I actually think the Reese Goosebox was smoother compared to my Morryde pin box that came on Pinnacle (only slightly though). Otherwise can't say I've observed a noticeable difference in handling between two at least in the truck while driving.
I am assuming the electric service is supplied from the main panel in your house. What is the size (in Amps) of the electrical panel in this building? Is your Tankless water heater gas or electric? Thanks.
Actually, I had to have new service run with a new transformer due to the high electrical demands. So entirely separate 200A panel and meter for barn. The barn is all electric, including 2.5 ton heat pump, 50a service for RV, and an ecosmart 27 tankless (112 amps alone at peak!). The tankless is perfect for my use case as we probably only use the hot water a few times a month, and so no need to keep all that water heated for such periodic use.
I saw your cost. Is there any recommendations on cutting costs? You said it was built in 2017, I'm commenting in early 2023 and I'm sure building material is more expensive. Did you build it yourself or higher out?
I was about $180K all in, from start to finish including all the concrete and hardscaping around it. I plan to do a more detail breakdown video, perhaps in the months ahead with categories. It was over 5 years ago but perhaps some of the figures could still be relevant.
thanks for the reply! my OCD wished you would have flipped the layout so you could walk straight out of your trailer to the outside, lol. but great job. I really want to do this exact setup for a snowmobile retreat in the northwoods of Wisconsin

For the rodent question we are blessed with a healthy population of predators that keep them in check, but I think the key is also making sure no holes in RV for them to get into. I'm a big fan of sealing underbelly: ua-cam.com/video/mOq81E8N5cI/v-deo.htmlsi=cBAZIG8Et-e8gvmn
How much are your plans for the Barndo with RV storage?
Yes, just $100 for the plans. Here's a link with screen shots and more info to get a better idea of what's included:

This is perfect, but we couldn’t keep solar charged so thinking how to make this type work .
Maybe separate solar on top of the roof? It's nice to keep the RV roof protected from the elements, but downside is if you have solar on RV won't work when in storage.
Will u share any idea regarding cost? We want something like this but not sure can afford something this big. Beautiful job! Thks so much for sharing!
I am interested in building this on our property in Tennessee is it possible to get the plans, also if so the price would be nice also.

Thank you for sharing this video on your beautiful building. Would you be willing to share the cost?

Great video. Did you think of moving the rv storage to the other side?
Thar way you could have all of the services on the correct side of the rig and you could put the slides out along with the stairs.
Yes, you could easily mirror plans if desired. My lot and grade forced it on the right.
Did you ever regret not putting in a taller garage door?
Not yet. Mine is 10 feet tall, 10 wide. Ceiling is a bit over 11 feet inside garage. Have to use low clearance track as I have a full loft space above with living space.
How did you compensate for snow load - especially with the force of the snow sliding off the upper roof and slamming down on the wings?
Would like to get the plans

Is there any photos Or videos of a full walk through of the inside.
. also, what's the total cost of the build?
Yes, about 13:20. Here's a video on cost:

Fantastic build!! Just what my wife and I were looking for as a RV home base. How do we get a copy of the plans?
Thank you. Yes, I've setup plans here:

First question what was the total cost sir
I've enjoyed your videos as you can articulate your thoughts and explanations very well. Keep doing what you're doing, as I'm a fan of an older age.
@@kirbykerschner825 Very interesting. Thank you for kind words.
Do you mind sharing info about the drone you use? It does a nice job!
I borrowed a drone for this footage. It was the DJI Mavic 3 Cine. Expensive, but I agree it definitely does a nice job!
Love that whats estimated cost to build it
Thank you. I built it back in 2017, but it was about $180K all-in or about $100 per sq ft.
Would you consider being a 'remote' general contractor (for a new build in Branson, Missouri area)?
😎 Sounds like a fun project, but I am not lisenced
Nice barn, how much it cost you, I would like to make one , 👍
This was back in 2017, but it was approximately $180K, all in.
I saw your cost. Is there any recommendations on cutting costs? You said it was built in 2017, I'm commenting in early 2023 and I'm sure building material is more expensive. Did you build it yourself or higher out?
Yes, planning on doing another video soon detailing the costs.
@@AdventureRocks what did you find that cost the most?
@@DaisyJ73 For my build it was probably all the concrete and site work as most expensive.
could you ballpark what the shell of the structure would cost?
I was about $180K all in, from start to finish including all the concrete and hardscaping around it. I plan to do a more detail breakdown video, perhaps in the months ahead with categories. It was over 5 years ago but perhaps some of the figures could still be relevant.
thanks for the reply! my OCD wished you would have flipped the layout so you could walk straight out of your trailer to the outside, lol. but great job. I really want to do this exact setup for a snowmobile retreat in the northwoods of Wisconsin
What building company did you buy from?
I actually served as GC myself and bought through local suppliers.
Ok Mr Trump,final cost?
About $180K all inclusive. But that was back in 2017. Here's a video on cost breakdown if interested:
