The electrical connection is “dumb” just providing 12v whenever the engine is on. The hot water keeps the unit warm for a period of time so it doesn’t go back to its initial state every time the engine is shut off and have to start all over. Later models work by the water heating only. I guess they decided that was the simpler method.
