What floor mats do you use for these 1st gen 4Runners? Do you have a favorite/recommendation?
@dsydlik The 84 doesn't have any. Didnt come with any and I haven't gotten around to getting any. The 87 has a combo of 2016 Honda Accord and 99 4Runner mats which I took out of my previous cars before I sold them lol. They are not a great fit but the 99 4runner bed mat is a nice covering for the rear and fits good. Ive been keeping my eye on ebay for OEM but they are the holy grail. The only ones I ever see are Hilux it seems and they aren't the right shape. So unfortunately I don't know first hand but I've heard some people say 1st gen Tacoma ones from weather tech are a decent fit.
I checked on Rock Auto. Apparently, these ignitors came on '84-'88 Pickups/4Runners and some Celicas. Holy crow, even aftermarket, they're pricey. And there's no guarantee they'll be as good or durable as O.E. But it's an option.
@@dadgarage7966 oh ok. I didn't know you could get them at all. That's definitely good to know if you can't come by a good used one.

@@TRyan-op2jo This guy gets it.
The judges must have had some amount of sentimental points or saw the lack of detail as a cleaner end product maybe. Looking at the two, one looks like a gingerbread house and yours more like a detailed diorama. Personally I'm impressed by the lvl of detail and realistic looks more than the plain traditional look the train station had. I'm wondering if the simplicity stood out more among all the elaborate decorations and was easier to look at and say that looks like a nice gingerbread house than actually appreciating or recognizing what went into something in greater realistic detail. The bricks might have been a toss up on how they were judged, I think it look like real mortar but it could have been seen as imperfect or something if they weren't taking it as a whole picture and just seeing it as lines of icing if that makes sense. If the idea was to see who could make the best looking traditional gingerbread house you could have bought in a box and assembly at home the train station gets it but I think you had it beat on actual detail, effort and overall skills displayed in what you made.
I definitely did the bricks with a rough/imperfect finish because I thought it looked more like real old bricks would look. They turned out just how I wanted. I was definitely going for a whimsical look also. Like a Mr. Roger's Neighborhood vibe. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I suppose. But I still think mine was better.
If I saw a building like this, I would definitely be impressed by the architect!
The brickwork is amazing!!!!! It looks so real! If you didn't say otherwise I would have thought you cut and stacked them yourself. And I love how you decorated not only the outside but the inside too! All the elements of this edible house are fabulous, but the bricks are stellar. It positively shows you put a lot of time and effort into this. I'm totally shocked you didn't win. Are you going to smash it and eat it now?? Maybe with some coffee? Or hot chocolate? ☕
@@4by_yotaguy373 LOL. It's technically edible but it would not be pleasant to eat. It's construction grade dough so it's literally hard as a rock. It probably tastes good though. It has sugar and spices in it but you'd probably break a tooth. I do smash them though when I'm done. Especially the losers.
@@natalied989 So you're saying dunk it in the coffee first. Maybe for an hour? 😅
@4by_yotaguy373 I don't drink coffee. I'll save this one for the birds and make some cookies that wpuld actually taste good.
in the book(page BE-22) for my 85, it shows the water temp signal on pin 7 (yellow/green stripe)of that blue connector. It says pin 5 (violet)is a ground signal from the ECU for the check engine light to illuminate.
also says pin 3 (yellow/black) is oil pressure and pin 4 (green/red) back door unlocked warning light
@liveoak7838 when I follow the copper tracing from the water temp gage to the connector it is the number 6 slot. The 84 might be a little different than the 85. It doesnt have a check engine light so maybe the wiring is different. I know the 85s have a lot more electronic components with the EFI and such. Do you have a hard copy of the 85 manual or a PDF?
@@natalied989 I have both forms of 85 manual. would be happy to share the pdf. I have a hard time from the video to see that it is in the number 6 slot on the cluster. looks like 7 to me. Looking at your blue plug, it appears your yellow/green temp wire is in pin 8 and your violet wire is in pin 6. I think they both need to move one slot over towards the other 2 wires so they occupy pins 5 and 7.
@liveoak7838 I'll take another look tomorrow. It's kind of fallen by the wayside. I started working on something else.

You ask good questions. It’s all just the learning curve that is slowing you down. Same for me.
@TRyan-op2jo I don't mind. I like to learn. I bought this vehicle because I wanted to learn about carbureted vehicles but that hasn't happened yet cuz I've been fixing all the problems it came with.

Keep going on the Toyota it takes time you will get the hang of it soon enough. There a pain at first .
@JohnHunt-rg5sy It's really not been that bad. It's going g really easy compared to my 87 front end rebuild which was a complete catastrophe. I just keep getting hung up on little things I dont know the answer to so it takes a long time to work around. But so far so good.
@natalied989 my 88 pu was the same way . Now I think I have it figured out. The wirings my hangup . Good luck.
@JohnHunt-rg5sy Oh God don't even get me started on the electrical. This one is a mess.
Is this an SR5? I mean a real on, the speedo head could have been switched out, it is different. Is the sending unit a pressure sending unit on the block or is it a dummy switch type. We have an 85 pickup trk, and I put the on from my 1986 4 runner in it and had nothing but problems as it, the pickup, was an automatic and the 1986 4 runner was a manual. I swapped them putting a manual cluster in the truck as we did a manual trans swap. So taking out the trucks automatic dash cluster ECT, and installing the one out of my 4 runner in it had similar issues fuel gauge was not working either. So I swapped them back and all was fine. Just mentioning this as I put a SR5 gauge cluster w/Tach in my 86 4 runner as it was( still is) a DLX, base model it didnt have a tach, but with new cluster it does now, it works fine. But the swap from my 86 4RNR DLX to 85 PickUp didnt work, so I bring this up as previous owner could have swapped causing this to happen. It is pertinent because if they didnt switch out the oil dummy light switch on the block and put in a sending pressure switch ( a larger round switch ) the dummy switch will send power to gauge which is a indicator not an oil light, will burn up the indicator gauge in the cluster, but will seem like it is all working up to the indicator in the cluster which will be damaged. The temp sender on the cluster would indicate right at start up and with in 1 minute or so would show truck was overheating. That is something easy to check. Do Not swap your other 4 runner gauge cluster into the older one unless you are sure of the oil pressure switch stuff I talked about above. Let me know how or if it helps. You may have already checked this. Good luck
Also ck you vin and codes under hood and make sure trim codes are for an SR5 with elect windows and all the goodies. People retro this stuff all the time, from wrecks ect. Too many things at one time not working, not usual for a toyota. If I understood correctly windows, and other things also not working correct? Just make sure what you are trying to fix is what the vehicle actually came as, probably did, but you never know. Hope this helps a little.
@robertmcclure184 I did check the VIN and it came back as an SR5. I did know about the incompatibility with thenDLX vs SR5 oil senders and thought maybe that was the problem. I guess I don't know the difference visually or location of a dummy switch vs an actual sending unit but the oil pressure sender is definitely onnthe passenger side of the block. It has a big black plastic cap over it. That's all I can tell you. Thank you so much for all the information. I kind of put this on the back burner cuz Im trying to get my front end squared away before winter sets in. I'll come back to the cluster soon. Do you know how I can bench test the actual cluster independently of any semding units or wiring in the vehicle?
Sence you used and ink pin it makes me wonder what type of paint you used?

I typically do the same, but I rarely use soap on my cast iron. Nice helpful video. This pan cleaned up nice. But for the really heavy, nasty rust, oxalic acid works wonders. That's what we use on Vintage weight plates. 😊
@4by_yotaguy373 just throw those in the garbage. Not worth the hassle.
@natalied989 😦😦😦😡
Soap? SoAp?! SOAP NOOO!! 😮😠😳
That's the best cookie probably in the history of cookies. No other cookie even comes close, people said. They liked it a lot, and I mean a lot.
@@dadgarage7966 It' really a tremendous cookie! Just terrific!
If ya have a good season on the pan nothing is really gonna bother it, I do like to cook off any moisture after cleaning tho. They get sticky if there's too much oil when you try to cook a seasoning layer on, you wanna wipe it just about off and turn the pan upside down if ya do that. I've used vinegar for rust if I'm too lazy for the wire wheels and salt is nice for scouring without harming the seasoning built up. Just using it all the time is the best thing for cast iron and fats make the best seasoning for regular use, high temp oils are nice for storage as they go rancid less quickly. Thanks for sharing and this concludes Ted talk.
@vinceimp9581 yeah I use my so often that "losing" seasoning from washing isn't really a concern. I use it pretty much everyday unless I don't cook at home that day which is almost never. And i don't wash it after every time cooking. Usually only if there is a sauce involved ir something gets crusty on the sides. If I cook meat I just drain out any fat or burnt bits and wipe it with a paper towel when I'm done.
What happened beautiful did they sent you the wrong part 😢
Uggggg! USPS sucks!!!! They lost my stuff too last month! ☹️
I’ve had a few eBay deals where I sold something and it didn’t work out well with the buyer. I ALWAYS buy insurance when I ship. ALWAYS! You lost $$. He lost a tool. Accidents happen. Also he won’t be your only “helper” in the Toyota community. There are many nice, kind, helpful people out there to lend you a hand! No worries
Also, I’m sorry it didn’t work out 😢
@@robertf7056 Me too. Big ole bummer
on him for not getting insurance, plus seems like $75 to rent is not exactly "hooking you up" I would have lent it with a refundable deposit plus you pay shipping both ways, but alas I don't own the tool. That sucks!
@ratpinscher I thought it was a nice gesture. He takes the risk of me breaking or stealing his tool and taking time out of his day to pack it and stand in line at the post office. I wasnt mad at the $75. In theory it would have saved me about $300 from buying it but now I'm mad and tooless and $85 poorer.
If you're trying to be nice letting him keep your part and kinda sharing the loss that way seems more than fair. Really you have no responsibility for whats happened before you got the package so unless you were wanting to be overly generous or to make good on past help by covering more, eating the cost on your end would seem like a good way to preserve a working relationship and offer some help with a raw deal for everyone. Sending him some of those banger cookies would also be a nice gesture with less expense but cover more than just you're end of the deal. Sorry to hear about this, that sucks..
@vinceimp9581 I know I don't have any legal responsibility but I still feel some responsibility bc had he not been trying to help me out he would have never sent it and it wouldn't have gotten lost. I'm going to feel him out and see how mad he seems before ai decide what to offer him. Cookies will definitely be in the proposal though lol
@@natalied989 Yes send cookies! Cookies always help. You should send some too to all your commenters .
Toyota uses a paper gasket for the locking hub. They're cheap ($3.00?) from the dealer. But instead, many people just glop it on with silicone -- to save time. Unfortunately, doing that tends to also silicone the cone washers in there.
That makes sense. That could be why they were stuck.
They look amazing! But do they taste good 🤔
Getting inside the frame is great. Condensation happens a lot where you can't see. Also, the rear tubular crossmember tends to rust from the inside out.
Hey, thanks for the complete shot of the frame "seal" as Toyota calls it starting at 0:07. Mine went missing a long time ago but they're easily remade with some 1/16" rubber sheet. It's hard to find one intact and installed on an old IFS Toyota for reference.
@dadgarage7966 Are you talking about the rubber thing that hangs down inside the wheel wells? I have all r of them on both of mine. 84 and 87. I don't know if they are original or someone made them.
@@natalied989 Yes, the rubber skirt covering the gap between the body and frame. It looks original or someone did a good job at making a replacement. They tend to rot and tear and people just toss 'em.
It's actually simple ones you do one lol
Once you find the right spot to smack em, the cone washers aren't so bad. True not everyone has an expensive brass hammer handy, but I always use a large brass punch. You can pick up some brass drifts at Harbor Freight for cheap. And smack em hard! Other times a block of wood will cushion a heavy hammer blow just enough. 👍
👀 Heyy...that cookies lookin thicc. 🤤 Also, impressive job on the coloring, and technique!
Totally agree. Probably a Jeep owner.
The competition was rigged! Rigged I tell you!!! 😠😢
lol take a flat head or chisels bust it from the outside towards middle and work ya way around then it will pop out no problem easy as pie
Well the guy in the video just reached in there with a puller and popped t out effortlessly so I wasnt expecting it to put up a fight.
@ there not supposed to come out easy or it will leak best way is to hit it with a chisel just bend it till it pops out its gonna be eroded to surface from heat stress
So this is the infamous basement! But where is the toilet?? We need a video dedicated to the throne! 😅
@@4by_yotaguy373 It's actually directly in front of the area the camera is pointing when all the parts are strewn around the floor. You just can't see it. You're not missing much. Doesn't everyone have a toilet in their basement? Every house I've ever lived in has had one. But I've only ever lived in houses from the 1800s. My town is old.
@natalied989 Not in my neck of the woods! I thought toilets in basements (or even houses with basements) were only in fairy tales
Ya know the red interior just kind of works on this. You really need to go all in and get the matching red door panels, and redye the dash. My buddy years ago had a brown full size bronco, lifted with a lot of red trim, and it looked fantastic.
