I always find myself playing this on repeat whenever I remember to watch it. And then I get emotional and remember why this was such a memorable and special moment. Watching him exhale at the end is the real definition of accomplishment-you can’t read about it.
I love how the corp put everything on Javier and Mikey this year sadly this was Javier’s last show in dci but he is such a talented player and has a bright future
You know, I remember watching this as a freshman in high school. I come back to this every now and again to remind myself why I loved marching band so much. The football games, the late-night bus rides, the shows, the commitment, and most importantly, the family. I never stopped loving marching band, but I know I did grow out of it. COVID started nearing the end of my senior year, and I never got the closure I felt I needed. I didn't get my last concert, last performance, last anything. It just sorta "ended." I rediscovered this show again around the middle of quarantine and it just brings back so many of the good memories. Great job guys. I loved this show.
I can relate, my freshman year was stolen, its not as bad as having a senior year stolen but still, this makes me appreciate every second i spend with my band and section because i know the time i have there is limited
i always think i have it bad for missing our school's capital trip, and other events, but i cant imagine being a senior and having closure being removed from the equation. Im grateful for the opportunity to (hopefully) go through a complete 4 years in hs without covid shutting everything down again.
This honestly hit home cause I went through the same thing. We were about to start our shows for the musical we spent months practicing for and then after our first show we were cancelled. I never got to compete for my last competition, go on my senior trip, march through my last parade, or hand off my baton to my junior drum major. It was an unsatisfying ending to a chapter that was building up for 4 years. I know it's now been a couple of years since then but it's still a sad moment that has left a permanent stain in our lives. I would highly recommend playing your instrument with a few people or if you're still cool with your old high school band perform at a home game.
@@dwaterson21 I interpreted it as there is no one embouchure that's best for any given musician. We all have differently shaped lips, and the fact Javier has extraordinary sound and technique with a non traditional embouchure proves this point
The Blue Devils organization put all their chips on one kid. They put 60 years worth of good will, marketing and hard work on one kid who would have an extended, impossible high range trumpet solo in their anniversary show. Every single ounce of sweat, every injury, every broken down bus and unpaid instrument invoice, every home show program ad sale, all one one kid. The stakes were enormous. And that pressure created a diamond, Javier Astorga.
They only got the 99 because they already gave other corps 18s & 19s so they need to use 20s EDIT:Might I add 2014 was clean as hell so they deserved it

That ballad and passionate trumpet solo sums up drum corps for me and why I have been a DCI fan since I was introduced to the activity in 1973 when I was 13 years old. That one minute and fifty-eight seconds is indescribable for me and always brings a tear to my eyes.
Fun Fact: This incredible ballad is based off the song "Everything Must Change" by Bernard Ighner, who died the same year on August 14th and this is something I hope he feels proud of, though huge credits to the blue devils

javier went to my high school, sadly he was a few years before my time so i never got to meet him but it’s still crazy knowing such an amazing player went through the program i’m part of
