6 years late reply, but she's not actually breaking her fingers. It's rigor mortis, the blood and muscles became frozen stiff and she has to break said blood and muscles that got her hand to pretty much freeze in that pose. But its not technically breaking her fingers the way you would think breaking them normally is.
Ugh, my heart hurt for the mother! Just imagine holding your baby tight, trying to protect him/her until your last breath, and your body slowly gets stiff and hard encasing the child in a dead and cold embrace. Damn, it brought those feels real quick 😢 As morbid as it sounds, I liked that they made the finger ‘cracking’ loud enough for you to grasp the situation. I want to see this movie so bad! 😭
The sun rose on the edge of the forest. The trees stifled as from the dark, two lost souls emerged. One immortal girl and one orphaned infant. Two lost souls who found each other. And so the sun rose.
Just watched it. It was very good, one of the best for this year. This is a type of movie that only focuses on maternal love and the life of that bond. With that said, this is a different movie to a woman than to a man.
This movie is such a good movie like it's literally masterpiece quality level of a film! I love how poetic this scene is first Maquia was about to take her own life when Ariel cries from below in the depths, she goes down only to find Ariel with his mother dead trying to protect him, a stranger tells her to leave him there but Maquia decides to take the baby from his mother's hand then decides to become his guardian and mother, then she tells Ariel that he smells like the sunlight when they finally leave the forest. It's such a poetic scene in this movie basically Ariel saved Maquia's life from her ultimate depression but in return she gives Ariel the life he deserves, it's such a poetic scene and it really make the base of the entire movie later on.
No matter how many times I watch this scene, the tears get ready to roll the minute Ariel grasps Maquia’s finger. He opens his eyes and reaches out to Maquia. And thats where I lose it completely
STAWP STAWP STAWP PULLING AT MY HEARTSTRINGS!!!!! Watched it in theatres. Had to share my box of tissues with a woman sitting next to me. You could hear everyone in the theatre sniffing in a tissue and watch stoically with tears trickling down their faces. Its just so GODDAMN GOOD. I love it even more than Your Name. Even /even with A silent Voice. But just go watch it!!
😭😭😭 Such an amazing movie. Hard to contain my tears throughout. When you see the film and the conversation that Maquia had early in the film comes to mind, the significance of this moment and the decision that Maquia makes...it's heartbreaking and beautiful
Mothers are the most powerful beings in the world they protect us in life and death they will sacrifice for their children weather they are our biological or step mother they love their babies
I watched this on an airplane screen and cried,,, I was just there, eating some doritos the plane gave us and crying because of this friken movie ;u; It’s super good, and “sad”, I recommend it uwu

2:24 Rigor mortis. Causes fresh corpses to go stiff. It settles in at 2-6 hours after death and can last for 24-84 hours. In other words. Those bandits aren’t too far away. 🗡
The fact that she didn’t let go as she was dying from a sword in her neck and her fingers are tight around the baby before rigor Morris kicked in makes her strong
After watching this film I cried and my heart ached so much that I couldn't even breath for 1hr! I can't express my feeling Abt this bcoz it's a very great film. It taught me many moral values that I could never forget and I owe this masterpiece a 100 times!
Dude this movie was a freaking heart murder you can't get a one second break from crying like hell. You're gonna cry for a sad scene, and when the sad scene ended, you thought thats it. But no. there is another sad scene after a sad scene and another after another it's gonna kill your eyes but this movie's great highly recommend it just prepare bunch of tissues
@Ornella Barone , Mauquia just overall gives Camilla vibes. They both took on the duty of motherhood. Camilla's situation was kinda forced unlike Mauqia's, but they both make spectacular mothers. In the sense of taking care of somebody and unconditional love, is how my story is similar.
It's a maternal thing. A woman hears a baby and knows that it needs something or it's in danger. It makes you want to do everything they can to make it better, even if the child is somone elses.
for those of you who've seen Disney's Tarzan, this is very similar to what happened in that movie, Maquia with her keen ears hears a baby crying far off in the distance, just like Kala heard baby Tarzan's crying from far away, she follows the baby's crying and finds out that his parents have been killed, just like Tarzan's parents, and since the baby is all alone with nobody to take care of him like baby Tarzan, Maquia takes the baby and raises him as her own son, exactly like Kala took baby Tarzan and raised him as her own quite a coincidence isn't it? both those two female characters knew that they couldn't bear to let a poor orphaned baby die, especially all alone, so they both did the right thing by taking the babies and raising them, so that they could both live full lives, even though both Tarzan and Ariel learn that their mothers aren't their real mothers, they still loved them like real mothers, and that's what counts
2:00 in that moment, Maquia knew she simply couldn't leave that poor baby, without anyone to take care of him he would die, so she decides to do the right thing by taking him and to raise him as her own
Ariel basically saved Maquia from killing herself, and so Maquia saved Ariel to give him the life he deserved
She gave him a life and he gave her a purpose and a renewed sense of hope for the future.
Yeah basically both of them save each other
