His actual playing style (in tournaments) is actually solid and positional. He said that he plays like this on stream mostly for entertainment

And followed it up with "...a deer"; someone might mishear that as "oh dear", but it's a reference to the song "Do-Re-Mi" going "doe, a deer, a female deer", Eric is good at coming up with these on the spot.

Traxler leads to the craziest positions.
The Traxler seems to always lead to interesting games. Hope we see plenty more of it
so true, everytime I have chance to play traxler as black, its hell alot of fun and aggressive play that make ~1000 so confused. But lots of time caculation went wrong and I'm just down like 2 piece or smth haha

I'm maybe a 1600 player, and I run the chess club at the middle school where I teach English. For fun I thought I'd play a Fried Liver against one of my students. He responded with the Traxler, which I had never seen. He crushed me! We've played both sides of it a few times for fun, which it delivers. But only to one side!
This is one of the most insane games I've seen.

i love playing the traxler but i can only get it to work when they actually take the bishop, otherwise I (mostly) lose

Hey Eric, take another look at the position at 2:42 - white is actually losing and there's a neat trap. After white plays king e1 (avoiding mate in 1), black is in discovered check and plays king g8, which hangs the queen. But if the bishop takes it, theres mate in one with knight c2.
he did look at it, but then he saw that after Kg8 white will have Qf7+ first, there's a square cleared up for the king to avoid that checkmate. ;-)
And at 15:45 Nd2 was indeed a forced checkmate (I found it myself, but I had to pause the video).
23. ... Nd2+ 24. Kb2 Nc4+ 25. Kc3 Qd2+ 26. Kc4 Qd4# (I did not initially see Qd4, I saw Rc8+ with a forced checkmate in a few moves).Would have been an even more epic ending to the video if Eric found it during the game. And after 23. ... Nd4 (well, according to stockfish, this time), white has a somewhat annoying move 24. Bb4, covering d2 and delaying checkmate by 13 moves.

the reason why Kf1 is the most played variation is because 2000+ rated games make up half of all games in the database because those players play a lot more than sub 2000 players, I can almost guarantee that most players won't know not to take.

7:59 I am probably missing something, but what about be2? You are threatening mate in 1 with Nc2. The only ways out of it would be to take the bishop with the queen which gives you a queen for a bishop and a knight. The only other way that I see out of it for white would be Qc1 making sure you can't move your knight in for the checkmate. But then black could go Qd1, threatening mate in 1 again, which would lead white to play h4 to get out of it again. This would be followed by black playing Qf6 threatening mate in 1 again. g3 would not be possible, since then Qf3 checkmate, so white has to play Rf1. This you can take with the bishop on b2 which again threatens mate in 1. g2 would still not be possible, because then Qf2 checkmate. So white's only option is to take bishop with queen and you win the queen again. But maybe I am missing a move.
You're not threatening mate in 1 with Nc2 because when the knight goes to c2 it stops defending e2 so the king can take the bishop.
So white can just play Qf7+ trading queens (and losing a knight but that knight was gone anyway)

GM Boris Alterman has a good short course on the traxler but even he said your taking a risk. White has so many side lines to give the ultra prepped a headache. But can be great in blitz I guess

2:40 someone please tell me how Ke1 is winning after Qc5, Ba3, Ne4. Ke1 met with Nxc2#. If white pins the queen with Ba3 I don't see any line where white can survive a mating combination.
Video idea: Texas scramble type idea where selected players in chat would suggest moves and they're compared to the engine and whoever suggested the best move that is played against Eric. You could have teams of low rates players playing against Eric. Not sure if anyone here has the coding skills and time to give it a go.
An interesting idea, but if one or more players in the chat is cheating, then the whole gamemode turns into Eric vs. engine

@@leadnitrate2194 I never got the hang of algebraic notation because it has less symmetries than the board does. I probably could have used it just fine if black counted ranks from its own side.

Hey Eric, I just saw you could Force Mate the Enemy at 15:54 with horse to D2 check and then King has to move, anywhere (only 2 fields) He go, comes the checkmate with horse back to e4. Or am I wrong? However GG was a funny game :)
