Great Documentary if the big Passage of necessity! Glad Mie was able to check back in to the US with the B-2. The Sunset photos each day were a great idea!
Put a line with a loop around your fishingline......let it slide over the fish and tighten it just before reaching the tail of the fish......this way you can pull up fish by its tail and let it bleed out.....you can use topping lift for this. Good luck
Just get what ya can man. I saved money the entire time I was in the army and I decided to not get a 100k boat cause no matter what I have to put money into it. I bought an old alberg 30 that was in great shape and paid 4k for it with plenty of money to make it how I want.
Great story telling, you did absolutely the right thing for yourselves and the boat. That fish though, he might just haunt your fish catching dreams forever. Thank you
Haha true, I still have nightmares where I see that fish sinking into the depths. Just hope we fed a few sharks that day. We were also very lucky that Mie had a B-2 visa from our previous sail to Florida from the Caribbean. Europeans, who can normally just fly to the US with just an electronic visa waiver, are required to have a B-2 visa (think tons of docs and an embassy interview) if you arrive by private ship/plane. There was conflicting information on whether she'd be let in, but I figured we were an American flagged boat with an American skipper, so worst case she'd have to fly home from Hawaii.
I just came across your channel. To bad I didn't see it sooner. We live on the Big Island 🏝. We could of had a drink 🍸or two on the lanai. Oo well I hope your stay here on the Big Island 🏝 was good and I am glad ya'll made it safe here. Until next time Aloha and Mahalo from the Big Island 🏝of Hawaii 🏝
Ah that's too bad we didn't get a chance to meetup. We loved our time in Hawaii but actually didn't get to spend a lot of time on the Big Island because of a rule change. More on that in the next video :)
You definitely made the right choice with the Amel. Such a safe and well equipped yacht for doing any ocean crossing even at the last minute. Doing this trip was a risk but the Amel makes it much more likely of success. If I had a £1M to buy a yacht I'd get the Amel 50.
Great work guys and impressive voyage. The reward was good kite-ing on the North Shore for weeks! Nice to see ur updates from the South Pacific. Cheers from Sacramento.
Absolutely amazing what an adventure crossing the pacific to Hawaii from Panama out of all of the sailing channels I watch I’ve never seen it done before. If I was you in that position and had that amazing Amel I would have done the same!! Keep the videos coming!
Thanks Tim, glad you enjoyed it. Hawaii is a long haul from Panama and even worse, it's sort of in the middle of nowhere. After our timein Hawaii, we did our WORST passage to date, nearly 3,000 miles of upwind/upcurrent sailing with huge swell for the first part of it. A famous catamaran literally broke apart going the easy way towards Hawaii, so given that and the distances involved... I understand why most don't do it. More videos coming, for sure. :)
@@SVTengah thank you for the reply! Yes I know that famous catamaran! The Pacific Ocean especially around the islands is no joke! I love all of the Hawaiian islands before the pandemic for four years we went every year and explored them all. I cannot wait to go back!! I’ve been stuck home ever since getting work done on the house dreaming of traveling. Be safe out there and enjoy!
Around 3:50 you make a comment about your parents and how to take action, that alone made me push the like button, subscribe and comment right after that!
Oh I love that so much the alternate world amazing thank you so much such a candid inside look at the reality of the situation in the decision making I love the honesty and the realness
Thanks Tammy, yeah we went back to Europe/US for a few months earlier this year and only then did we truly realize how lucky we have been to be aboard Tengah during these strange times. It truly has been an alternate world.
Can't think of another boat where I'd feel comfortable leaving on an unexpected nearly 5000 nautical mile passage! We did have one problem along the way - a portlight on starboard side leaked a bit, ruining a Danish cookbook called "God Mad". :)
Hard to guess really. When it was being lifted on the mizzen halyard, I could barely get my arms around the body. It was far larger than anything we'd ever want to catch again, so we switched to much smaller lures!
@@SVTengah EPIC! What I have seen guys do with giant fish like that is when they get them close to the boat they cut the line as short as they can. I believe they use hooks that breakdown fast and fall out of the fishes mouth or body. Just to get a monster like that on the line is awesome!
.....Nice video.....but as a fisherman for 50 plus years.....NO one.....that I have ever know try's to pour booze in a fishes mouth,,,,,,have NO IDEA where you have ever heard that.....
Thanks for the comment, James. We would definitely appreciate tips on how to handle big fish like this since you're much more experienced with fishing than we are. This is where I got the idea to use alcohol on the gills: "Pour or squirt a little alcohol directly into the fish's gills not your best malt, any old rot gut will do the trick. This will be absorbed almost instantly into the bloodstream and will rapidly cause brain-death. It's a clean and humane method, and is the one I use most. 31 days is an epic travel time! Perfect place to self quarantins is on a sailboat. ❤😊
You should reach out to sailing one life. They catch huge fish and have quiet a bit of fishing experience. Great video! Thanks for sharing!

You're best episode ever or at least so far ⛵👍🌝⛵
Outstanding video and great decision-making. You're now in Papeete and I hope all is well with everyone!!
Way cool! I like the idea of taking your destiny into your own hands just like your parents!

I keep waiting to see Brady's or Brian's face appear... The boat is a splitting image of Delos.
Where are you guys now? I’m in Kailua, Oahu
No more videos guys?
Well? How big was that Marlin that got away? And was that a black marlin?
