This is very interesting, most people think you just jump in the boat and cross an ocean, the planning that gos into a crossing is incredible, takes a lot of smarts thats for sure.
Plus there is so much paperwork involved to leave a country and entering another country. Not like when Joshua Slocum set sail around the world in a modified fishing boat with a few barrels of food, a few barrels of water. Fishing gear, A Winchester and a shotgun.
So excited for you guys. In my 70’s so have to set this bucket list item aside. That’s why your site is so important to me. I can share your adventure and it brightens my day.
I'll be honest, I lost a bit of interest during the last few years but these latest videos remind me the old days. The new crew, a long Pacific passage and back into the part of the world where it all started. Don't get me wrong, I always kept up with you guys because your nice family. Just some honest feedback.
O M G what a non-stop learning fest. Now I want to go to college all over again, and I want Prof Brian for every class - he can explain anything to anyone and everything to everyone. I'd say run for office and save us all, but I love the videos too much. Keep on keeping on, really looking forward to this crossing!
You are so fortunate to have earned the respect of all these companies and to have their equipment onboard. Your planning and experience is second to none. Thanks for who you are and what you do.
For first time sailors and or novices, this was a great bit of information. Especially from one of the original sailing channels. So your information is premium. Thanks guys.
We would like to see every aspect of your route planning, weather planning and adjustments on the way, how you use your navigation equipment and programs, sails and sail changes with consideration of current conditions and projected conditions. Everything sailing, please. Did enjoy those 8 hour videos of just sailing.
Extremely interesting and thought-provoking episode. Shows what really goes into the planning and execution in order to not only complete the transit, but to do it safely. You are living my dream, I'm nearly 70 with 22 years of Naval service, over 17 years assigned to small platforms. While I've seen my share of time at sea, my dream was to sail around the world on my own boat. At my age I'll have to settle for doing it vicariously through you guys!! Fair winds and following seas!!
Fair Winds and Following Seas SV Delos!!!! Keep safe and thank you for including us in the planning and Weather Routing!!! Stay Safe!!!! Enjoy the Journey!
I remember the first time I watched your video in 2016 was about crossing pacific that you did much earlier. Now you are crossing again. Wow, this is a voyage of circumnavigation. Congratulations.
Delos and her crew always provide us with knowledge. my dream is to sail or atleast be part of a sailing crew but life here is tough. I know I will do that somebody but I will happily absurb any knowledge possible. Thank you Capt Brian for this!
What a contrast, planning today vs 20 years ago. The tools available today are mind boggling. Thank you for sharing. Have a great sail and stay safe.🙂🙂
Such a great video SV Delos… You are the best, we are just starting our sailing journey and learning so much from you …we hope to cross the Pacific in the next 18 months ⛵️⛵️
One of my favorite videos , thank you so much for that VALUABLE information Brian. That’s one of my goals once I get my boat is to do your trip. I hope maybe one day I can come sail with all of you.
I found it interesting that your first Pacific crossing time closely matched your second Pacific crossing. Good captain, good planning. 👍 Thanks for sharing.
PPPPLEASE LET ME BE PART OF FUTURE LONG PASSAGES CREW I got excited only watching Brian explain and show the preparation from my laptop... i would burst out to set sail with a smile on my face and 35 years less in the soul just like that
Thank you for the convenience of just clicking on your Amazon link in order to find the books that you speak of and the other items you discuss. Awesome, Brian!
What a wonderful experience it is to go along with you guys on the course of the trip. Thanks for taking the time to make this happen. I'm sure it will be the journey of a lifetime.
cool, elaborate planing cap.... taking so much things in account is just amazing level of knowing and understanding these waters... interesting to watch, makes me as an outsider like being on the boat with u lot.... looking forward for future uploads and wishing you pleasent winds on the way.
nice video , i ges you left olready when we see this video , so happy trip , hope oll get well , see you in next video ,an god bless you oll and Delos ,,
When you have your family on board you can't be to careful. I like that Capt Brian checks and double checked.. I'd trust his experience and attention to details ....😎 you see this isn't a whim . Bon voyage.!
You might consider updating the link on your web page to the 9th edition of World Cruising 2022 since the 7th edition is 2014. Some hurricane season windows have changed over the last 8~9 years.
Awesome video. I watch them all and love the life style. But am now getting more interested in learning key points like this as I hopefully get closer to chartering our own boat as a first step to this life! Thank you!!
That was fantastic, looks like it made for a great crossing, I have a lot to learn about forecasts and predictions. Just left to head south from San Francisco, and the wind was 180 of the prediction, I probably could have noticed the instability in the area if I knew more, or had more experience...I will keep learning. Thanks
Brian, great video. But a minor correction: the “Horse latitudes” are not the same as the doldrums aka ITCZ. The horse latitudes are at approximately +/- 30 degrees (as shown in the video at 2:16).
I found this video very interesting, but I couldn't help but notice the Mitch Albom book The Five People You Meet In Heaven. I thoroughly enjoyed that book as well as follow up The Next Person You Meet In Heaven. Hope you all enjoy it as well.
My first sail we had no internet, only gps and ebirb and a radio…charts and a few books, life is better when simple..life does not have to be complicated ..
Off the beaten path sounds really great. Let’s go. Dock life is really getting old . Your right the hardest thing to do is leave the dock for long term cruising
Great video, guys really good info. Last time I crossed the pacific on the milk run I only had RDF, charts, satnav, a sextant and ocean passages of the world. Gps was only just coming in and unaffordable. On a 38ft boat we did it in 21 days and had similar weather conditions to your trip. This time I’m excited to learn passage planning by electronics and see if we can shave a day or two of the passage. I’m really interested to know how the star link performed with the parameters you mentioned such as roll and pitch, plus did you notice any barometric interference in download speed. Is it really possible to download emails and work while crossing the pacific. Personally I’d rather use that time to declutter my mind than work, but needs must to keep the dream going.
@@alexandradane3672 Parlay Revival uploaded his Panama canal passage 4 months after the canal crossing. Many youtubers are weeks or months behind in their vdo uploadings. It gives them time to do other things...like flying home, going to boat shows. A few weeks ago, I watched a New Year vdo from one of them.
How To Cross the Pacific Ocean. For most folks it is easy. You start somewhere on the east side and point your boat west. Keep going until you hit the big brown part at the western edge. Do not go during cyclone, hurricane, etc. season. For the more adventurous. Start on the west side, generally in the higher latitudes and go east until you hit the big brown part at the eastern edge. Best done in the late spring or early summer.
hii SV Delos, you've been sailing Delos for about 15ish years now, and i've watched you mention pilot charts several times as a reliable way to get info on weather patterns. have you noticed, even slightly, through your consistent travels of all the oceans and seas, changes in the data on pilot charts that you come across as you navigate? basically what im asking is have you seen climate change impact your travels, not as an obstacle necessarily, but just as a factor? like fluctuations that werent present 12 years ago or whatnot on routes you've experienced before. big fan thank youu for your time
This is very interesting, most people think you just jump in the boat and cross an ocean, the planning that gos into a crossing is incredible, takes a lot of smarts thats for sure.
You can just take the Jack Sparrow approach and jump in boat.. a plan is a good start but you can not control mother nature.
