This is very interesting, most people think you just jump in the boat and cross an ocean, the planning that gos into a crossing is incredible, takes a lot of smarts thats for sure.
You can just take the Jack Sparrow approach and jump in boat.. a plan is a good start but you can not control mother nature.
@@palkallevag6557 Jack Sparrow has lost more boats than a Government Accounting Offce

Plus there is so much paperwork involved to leave a country and entering another country. Not like when Joshua Slocum set sail around the world in a modified fishing boat with a few barrels of food, a few barrels of water. Fishing gear, A Winchester and a shotgun.
So excited for you guys. In my 70’s so have to set this bucket list item aside. That’s why your site is so important to me. I can share your adventure and it brightens my day.
I'm well into my 70s and planning to sail the Pacific. It's never too late to venture out.
@@Cmoredebris Good for you George. Start a UA-cam channel. I would love to hear about your adventure. Not kidding.
sending you our best Ron, thanks for watching the vids!
So happy to see y’all at it again this season should be awesome be salt out there tell nugget she getting so big ❤
DO IT !!
I'll be honest, I lost a bit of interest during the last few years but these latest videos remind me the old days. The new crew, a long Pacific passage and back into the part of the world where it all started. Don't get me wrong, I always kept up with you guys because your nice family. Just some honest feedback.
My husband died 4 years ago and Delos got me through my heavy grieving....I'm still here❤
just another way that Delos shows us there's so much more to cruising than what meets the eye. Super informative!
Sierra back there livin her best life 😅
She's so stinking cute
Two Delos videos last week and this week, hooray! Always love when you guys are on a passage.
Glad you like them!
my respect for Brian grows year after year - a remarkable man, all be safe/well on passage
Delos and her crew always provide us with knowledge. my dream is to sail or atleast be part of a sailing crew but life here is tough. I know I will do that somebody but I will happily absurb any knowledge possible. Thank you Capt Brian for this!
I remember the first time I watched your video in 2016 was about crossing pacific that you did much earlier. Now you are crossing again. Wow, this is a voyage of circumnavigation. Congratulations.
Sierra playing in the background at the beginning is so cute! Much love from the Netherlands.
Great video SV Delos you guys are the best
Have a wonderful passage guys, fair winds and following seas, much love!
We would like to see every aspect of your route planning, weather planning and adjustments on the way, how you use your navigation equipment and programs, sails and sail changes with consideration of current conditions and projected conditions. Everything sailing, please. Did enjoy those 8 hour videos of just sailing.
Sweet how Sierra was in the frame of video playing, her image reflected in the mirror
O M G what a non-stop learning fest. Now I want to go to college all over again, and I want Prof Brian for every class - he can explain anything to anyone and everything to everyone. I'd say run for office and save us all, but I love the videos too much. Keep on keeping on, really looking forward to this crossing!
For first time sailors and or novices, this was a great bit of information. Especially from one of the original sailing channels. So your information is premium. Thanks guys.
Glad it was helpful!
Such a great video SV Delos… You are the best, we are just starting our sailing journey and learning so much from you …we hope to cross the Pacific in the next 18 months ⛵️⛵️
Make sure you make some PH videos from the "cock pit"!
You are so fortunate to have earned the respect of all these companies and to have their equipment onboard. Your planning and experience is second to none. Thanks for who you are and what you do.
I love watching Sierra playing dollhouse in the mirror :)
Fair Winds and Following Seas SV Delos!!!! Keep safe and thank you for including us in the planning and Weather Routing!!! Stay Safe!!!! Enjoy the Journey!
Thank you! Will do!
I found it interesting that your first Pacific crossing time closely matched your second Pacific crossing. Good captain, good planning. 👍 Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much!
Extremely interesting and thought-provoking episode. Shows what really goes into the planning and execution in order to not only complete the transit, but to do it safely. You are living my dream, I'm nearly 70 with 22 years of Naval service, over 17 years assigned to small platforms. While I've seen my share of time at sea, my dream was to sail around the world on my own boat. At my age I'll have to settle for doing it vicariously through you guys!! Fair winds and following seas!!
Enjoyed this one...we need to see the "back end" operations as well. That's how we learn!
A really great informative video. Combined sailing knowledge technical information.
One of my favorite videos , thank you so much for that VALUABLE information Brian. That’s one of my goals once I get my boat is to do your trip. I hope maybe one day I can come sail with all of you.
A very groovy and informative episode. Stay safe and stay groovy.
What a contrast, planning today vs 20 years ago. The tools available today are mind boggling. Thank you for sharing. Have a great sail and stay safe.🙂🙂
The best thing about this channel is helps you relax, feel like you are with them, and the best part you learn a lot! Take care, guys❤
Sam Holmes sailing for actual SAILING CONTENT!
great video, future sailor here, yes, please more predict wind usage on passage !
Great video. I'll drop my fishing rod everytime I wake up if I were on this boat.😂
Love watching your videos guys. Keep up the great work.
cool, elaborate planing cap.... taking so much things in account is just amazing level of knowing and understanding these waters... interesting to watch, makes me as an outsider like being on the boat with u lot.... looking forward for future uploads and wishing you pleasent winds on the way.
What a wonderful experience it is to go along with you guys on the course of the trip. Thanks for taking the time to make this happen. I'm sure it will be the journey of a lifetime.
Our pleasure!
Smart planning. I’m sure by now you all are well established in the route. Best wishes sent. Thanks for the explanations. Enjoy life. 👏⛵️🏝
They are across and safe in the South Pacific.

Holy Cow, what fortitude, resources, interpretation & planning! Incredible episode!
Your boat is your life line take care of it and it will take care of you
I’m super sleepy. I’ll have to catch up on this tomorrow.
Didnt realize your videos were 2 months behind.

Oh great im so all over this gonna send a beer
Brian, great video. But a minor correction: the “Horse latitudes” are not the same as the doldrums aka ITCZ. The horse latitudes are at approximately +/- 30 degrees (as shown in the video at 2:16).
Amazing resources to help navigation. Safe journey.
Brian & Kaza, Thanks for sharing this information, appreciation the help for us up and coming sailors...
Add more of these videos, please. Nice to see the planning involved. Good luck ⛵️
Thanks for the info Brian!!
PPPPLEASE LET ME BE PART OF FUTURE LONG PASSAGES CREW
I got excited only watching Brian explain and show the preparation from my laptop... i would burst out to set sail with a smile on my face and 35 years less in the soul just like that
Brian Trautman is a rock star!
Once again back to the Marquesas? Just like so many years ago. I followed you then, and am glad to see it again.
Good luck Zeljko from Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you for all the solid info ! Safe journeys !
Thank you for sharing how you determine a route, time and setup things for a successful passage! Very cool for us landlocked followers!
Glad it was helpful!
Some very cool info here on tools for long distance cruising! Thanks guys! Safe Passage!
Hannah looks like she’s struggling to stay awake for brian’s lesson 😂
Fascinating video. Remarkable similarity to flight planning.
I found this video very interesting, but I couldn't help but notice the Mitch Albom book The Five People You Meet In Heaven. I thoroughly enjoyed that book as well as follow up The Next Person You Meet In Heaven. Hope you all enjoy it as well.
I'm enjoying these extra video releases
As always, i love to join your journey. May the winds be with you
This is a very informative video. Thanks guys. I know you're on your way so fair winds SV Delos crew.
Best ,sailing by the numbers, explanation ever, thank you
Thanks Paul, glad you enjoyed 😁
Interesting planning session
Awesome video. I watch them all and love the life style. But am now getting more interested in learning key points like this as I hopefully get closer to chartering our own boat as a first step to this life! Thank you!!
Glad you like them!
Thank you for the convenience of just clicking on your Amazon link in order to find the books that you speak of and the other items you discuss. Awesome, Brian!
We just made our Amazon Storefront really recently, glad you like it!
Great information Brian. You are a good teacher.😎
Awesome get a bonus video. Fair winds and following seas! Crossed the Pacific three times in Navy. Wish I was there with y'all. 🙏
That was an excellent informative video, Thank you Brian
Really interesting video!
sv Delos what a surprise love the videos making everyone's day for years now thanks -chaz
When you have your family on board you can't be to careful. I like that Capt Brian checks and double checked.. I'd trust his experience and attention to details ....😎 you see this isn't a whim . Bon voyage.!
4:30 Its gonna be funny to watch the routes compared on a map after crossing. Remember to do that Delos! Thx U guys
Very interesting !
Even if I will never sail.
Thank you
😊
Great content! Very useful! Thanks for this guys!
My first sail we had no internet, only gps and ebirb and a radio…charts and a few books, life is better when simple..life does not have to be complicated ..
Great extra video Brian and crew
Safe travels......
Most impressive captain ❤ from 🇨🇦
I love this one, I learned a lot! Thanks
That was fantastic, looks like it made for a great crossing, I have a lot to learn about forecasts and predictions. Just left to head south from San Francisco, and the wind was 180 of the prediction, I probably could have noticed the instability in the area if I knew more, or had more experience...I will keep learning.
Thanks
Awesome info right there!! Thanks for sharing answered alot o questions! Fair winds n seas!! Say hey to all take care
awesome! another great video, a comment before even finish watching it!
it will be interesting to see how this planning has and will change over time.
Very informative
Brian, you're a very intelligent Captain. If I wanted to be a compent captain, I would watch how you do it!

Nice episode, would love to see more of the mechanics of crossing oceans.

Added Jimmy's book to the wishlist. 🙂

You might consider updating the link on your web page to the 9th edition of World Cruising 2022 since the 7th edition is 2014. Some hurricane season windows have changed over the last 8~9 years.
How To Cross the Pacific Ocean. For most folks it is easy. You start somewhere on the east side and point your boat west. Keep going until you hit the big brown part at the western edge. Do not go during cyclone, hurricane, etc. season.
For the more adventurous. Start on the west side, generally in the higher latitudes and go east until you hit the big brown part at the eastern edge. Best done in the late spring or early summer.
